@lynxnoon
I can now see how you are measuring the speed. with the screen picture that you posted , I do believe there is a presence of REV A in that area as it is showing on the connection screen under the EV DO, so i believe the speed will be as a result of the rev a. I use the same modem and when am in Abuja , that is only when I get the A logo come on under the EV DO signal and the speed is always faster. In port Harcourt, I don't get the A Logo

ComputersRe: Starcomms Izap - Is It Really Fast As Starcomms Claim? by EPOMA(m): 11:15am On Mar 09, 2009
starcomms said they have rev.A only in abuja for now. you see 'rev.A' becos you use a rev.A modem. what speed do u get @oyb?
Dont forget that Nigerian companies are the last to informtheir customers on an issue link this. Only few us like nairalanders care to know this things.

It mite show Rev A , but how do we knw it's Rev A ??
I use my sierra wireless express card in Ph and it only shows EVDO but in abuja it show EVDO and Rev A, so I would believe that if it shows Rev A then there should be Rev A from the that base station.
With the available bandwith that we have already have on starcomms, there is no difference in speed when am in PH or Abuja, the only big difference that I see is when I am watching a live streaming TV, in Abuja (Rev A) it just works so fine while I struggle in PH to do That, so I think Rev A just supports a better Video streaming and voip even if it is the same bandwidth or speed.

I just Bought the AC580 for 11k naira from Starcomms Port Harcourt Office today, they have started stocking them again or you guys should buy the express card AC597e (15k) which is a rev A and faster than the AC580 and then use a card bus adapter (3K) to use it as an AC580 pcmcia card . What is all this 20,00 Naira price about Abeg.
PhonesRe: Need Visafone Evdo Settings: by EPOMA(m): 11:16am On Aug 28, 2008
If you are in Lagos or Abuja, then Visafone matches Starcomms but if in the south east of Nigeria, I would advise you stick to Starcomms as Visafone are very slow in updating the infrastructure that they took over from other companies. Most of this companies get their Bandwidth from almost the same source but what determine how good they are is the amount of user they have on the platform. Starcomms is popular and as such has many users. So make your decision or try someones visafone out around where you live.
Also Visafone customer service don't have any knowledge of resolving problems when you call them on fone and that can be very frustrating. All they do is tell you they will get back to you in which they hardly do. I have visafone but I have lost nearly a month of my subscription due to domain issues.I had to pay for reltel that same month to be able to get to my business

EX InFeris

This is a forum that we all share ideas, so I wonder why you get so abusive.Master degree in Computer science does not mean that you Majored around Telecoms. I work with nortel networks in the UK on developing the likes of DMS100 switches. You could be right about your phone showing 3g from the base stations but what bandwidth is feeding the base station. Lets end this topic here because you have just showed your stupidness and arrogance here. Give Nigeria about 3 years when starcomms, Zain and the others get their Fibre link to Europe working and we can talk. This country was wasted during the Military regime and we are just trying to recover but it does not help having people like you around Mr KNOW ALL.

"your argument refers you to the same response above: i AM within 3G coverage unless the datacard is lying when its profile says 3G rather than GPRS as you can see above. besides, where in heck can MTN GPRS give you 44kbps?"

Your statement above is not correct, on your printscreen , it says connection name, That does not make it to be connection to 3g.I spoke to mtn and they only have MTN 3G running in Lagos, PH and Abuja. So youare getting the whole stuff wrong and you are lucky to be getting that speed from gprs
PoliticsRe: Pls Who's Government Is Better, On A General Note. Obasanjo Or Yardua? by EPOMA(m): 7:46pm On Jul 08, 2008
I am trying to understand how we Judge our governments and the facts that we use. I must say Yar'Dua Government is far better than OBJ. The problems that this present Government is facing now is as a result of Obj. In Electricity Obj spend a lot and nothing to show, built new gas turbine while selling all the gas to Italian and British Firms. Now nobody want to buy Nepa in this state.
There have been reduced Political Abuses like Ngige ,Ige and the killing of Harry Marshall that OBJ had hands in.Now all tribunal are fair to an extend in their decisions. For people who did not know Obj ruined Nigeria i various sector like selling refineries and ajaokuta for peanut, all that have been reversed. The giving away of Bakassi( Israel had over 46 UN resolution to give back land to the Palestinian since the 60's but has not but OBJ did in under 3 years). Most Governors now are doing far more a lot than Obj, in his time as long as you are for him like Odili, you can steal kill and get away with it, thank God for the truth committee sitting in river state.
I cannot say much but OBJ is damned for Life and he knows

People still get this tithing business wrong.Tithe is not money and it should not only go to the church, we have so much attached ourselves to giving church money than reading the Bible. Below is what Deuteronomy says and then think for yourself

"22Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

23And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

24And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:

25Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

26And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

27And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

28At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

29And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest."

Tithe is not money Please.
ComputersRe: Visafone Evdo Experiences, Anyone? by EPOMA(m): 12:32pm On May 11, 2008
I have been using Visafone in calabar for the past month with 24hrs services but I have lost 15days of no network due to Nitel strike. If you are in Lagos or Abuja , they are not the best but for the eastern part of Nigeria, they still need some time to set up their own network. I believe in the next 3 months, yes they will be good all round.

[b]I don't  why people don't like to say things the way they are, for all of you  in this forum, you have to understand how the PH problem stands before we can start wondering when it will end. Saboma George has been killed, this is a 27 year old cult leader that was always boosting of killing Harry Marshall, He was hired by Odili on behalf of  Obasanjo for the sake of 3rd term to commit this Murder. He has  about 200 followers and all of them are armed. There is also Ateke Tom who has his men and  another cult group which was formed the last speaker of the house to win elections but did not succeed.
some member of these cult groups were being paid 3million Niara each by Odili and they went on to the street last week because Omehia has refused to continue paying this money.Ibori hisred Militant to kidnap Willbros staff in order to get them to sell the company to him which he ended up buying for $150million.
Please the problem will not end . Oil bunkering is being use to exchange for guns when the tankers come in , so no way to control guns.

PoliticsRe: David Mark As New Senate President: A Joke? by EPOMA(op): 3:39pm On Jun 08, 2007
You can call him names and say he was among those that looted money during the military era, but u'll agree with me that since his election into the senate, he has never been fingered in any financila deal. he's name was not mentioned in the " bribe for appointment" saga or the " bribe for budget" saga.

Rather than castigate i'd rather u pray for him to be a leader Nigerians are looking for
MENYI , We go ban you from there forum, Abeg who where the people fighting for Obasanjo 3rd term in office,is it not David Mark leading the team , If the ordinary senators go 50million each for 3rd term how much do you think David Mark the ring leader got? The bribe for appointment was 50million as a whole.Get your facts right and anyway he is on his way out.
PoliticsI Sorry For My Country! Obasanjo A Big Shame by EPOMA(op): 4:24am On Jun 08, 2007
Below is Sun newspaper report on OBASANJO

Ten days after he relinquished power to Alhaji Umar Yar'Adua, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday, in Lagos, experienced hard life outside the Presidency as he was stranded in a traffic jam for almost two and half hours.

Obasanjo, who spoke in Abeokuta, during welcome-home reception organized in his honour by the Abeokuta Special Group (ASG), narrated how he left his Ota farm for Lagos early on Thursday hoping to reach his destination as early as 6.30 or 6.45 a.m. but got stranded in the usually hectic traffic jam in Lagos.

He urged young wealthy Nigerian, who have made money in the country, to spend part of such money by marrying more wives.
Although the former president did not mention where he went in Lagos, he said he was scheduled to meet three octogenarians in the "City of Excellence," adding: "On my way to Lagos this morning, everywhere was almost flooded. It took me two and a half hours to get to Chief Onabade’s house. I thought I would have got there by 6.30a.m. or quarter to seven.

The former president, who said he was not aware of the reception by the Abeokuta Special Group until Thursday morning, added that he was also to meet leaders of thought from Imo State at his Ota Farm
"Today (Thursday), I have already planned my programme to get to Lagos very early. I had appointments with three octogenarian, whom I promised to visit. My orientation course for the Open University will soon start. It took me two and half hours to get to the house of one of the octogenarians".
While commending the (ASG), whose membership include the Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief Alaba Lawson and former Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Folorunsho Oke and host others, he urged Nigerians to provide conducive environment for foreign investors.

"We must bend down to carry our load before we can get help from people. We must create conducive environment. An investor particularly, a foreign investor has alternatives. He may come to Nigeria, but he can also go to Ghana or can go to Sierra Leone. "
Whatever we may have, one thing that we may claim to have that others do not have is population, but population alone does not make it. Other things must be added to it. We have to create conducive environment. We have to show that we have something to show to attract investors because they can go to other states."

According to Obasanjo, "any investors who come to Nigeria may decide to go to Anambra State . He may go to Imo State. He may go to Cross Rivers State. He may go to Katsina. He may go to Kano. We have to show that we have something special to offer in Ogun State.
The former president also appealed to Nigerians, particularly those in Ogun State to make land available for industrial development.

His words: "I want to appeal to our people; we may need to make land available for investors. We may need to provide lands for development. Anybody who comes here and makes any form of development on our land wouldn’t carry it away.

"They will also employ our people, pay tax to Federal Government and those people who are workers there would pay income tax to state government. They will buy things. They may even marry our girls.
"I have always told young Nigerians not to just make money alone. Make money just make sure that you spend the money you make here in Nigeria. They asked how they can spend it here and I told them that if you have married one marry another one."

Obasanjo has shown how stupid and idiotic a man he is by making all of these above silly statements. How could someone who was the president some days ago be begging for young men to release land for development or does he mean land for his farm, please what happen to the land use act, thank God Yaradua has been mentioning this of recent.
He should have also made the country conducive for investment when he was in government for 8 year.I am believing that this man has lost it. He had all the funds instead they were sharing crude oil excess.I wish he could suffer more as any other Nigerian
PoliticsRe: David Mark As New Senate President: A Joke? by EPOMA(op): 12:29pm On Jun 07, 2007
"Hi Nairaland users. i find it rather so surprising that people of so much intellect would reason this way. Let me start with the "telephone is not for the poor" stuff. Have you guys ever bothered to ask yourself the salary scale at that time? How many persons could afford stuffs like a VCR (video cassette recorder), how many could afford TV sets How many Nigerians were driving sleek cars at that time. This things were obviously beyond the reach  of the common man. To be frank, were this things affordable at that time just as they are now? obviously no. Things are a lot better than those days and i bet you would not have said anything different"

MENYI,  I think you have shown your level of ignorance in and about Nigeria.David Mark made most of his statements during Babangida time which saw a lot of money in circulation in the country due to Babangida cocontinuousorrowing and allowing free for all stealing by the his Military administrators, don't forget also that Babangida time was the peak time for 419, so there was a lot of Dollars flowing in Nigeria ununtilbacha came in.
At this time that you are talking about, I visited a friend in Romania around this time and to make a call was 5 cent per  calls with unlimited time. Nigeria as a country during 1979 through ITT and Abiola had laid cables around nigeNigeria all we need was for Mark's administrations to add more lines to the exchange and problem solved.
So MENYI stop leaving in a dream world about nigerNigeriansbeing able to afford VCR or TELE and even if they were not able to afford , it was due to mean military government that we had who were put high tax on the importation of those goods.

I always wonder why Nigerians forget so quickly, it is not long ago when David Mark as Minister for Communication under his God father Babangida stole so much money to that he bought a golf course for 40 million pounds in the UK or Ireland.

The same David Mark once said " that telephone was not for the poor", In another Interview he said " That armed robbers should be shot from their knees down so that they can suffer before they die"

I just wonder what goes on in the mind of David that he is lobbying to be dealing with the affairs of common Nigerians who are poor whom he could not help as a minister during the military rule. Please can someone tell me Has he change?

I feel he should just be on the back seat of the senate and shut up as may be there is no other rich person to be a senator from his senatorial district. We can excuse him for being a senator as we are in democracy. He is not polished at all, he even made a statement saying that it is better for us to have our president as an ex military officer.

RomanceRe: Is Dating Someone For 1 Year Too Soon To Get Married? by EPOMA(m): 2:13am On May 02, 2007
I feel only those who have experience can give a true comment here.My view is it all boils down to if you(guy or girl) are mature enough and ready to marry.
By then you would have a , with if you don't then you probably won't even after 5 years.I knew a girl who dated a guy (very close to me) fromwhen she was 17 for 7yrs. When they broke up it was so nasty and she was blaming me for not exposing the guy to her before. She said it was like she never really knew him, because the guy was one of those rare romantic loverboy types in Naija
Please note if at the onset of a relationship you start talking about marraige or settling down youhave shot yourself in the foot.thats when  you will get Oscar winning acting from your partner, male or female.
Propsed to my wife after 4 months ,married in 10 months.
Best decision I ever made grin

I know say we don dey use to to dey throw shit from from window, But all this are what needs to be address Urgently and not sharing money. If you give poor nigerians money , they go first buy cars and expensive mobile phones and chasing woman before they go do anything with thier free money.

I am Confused who to support , Obj or Atiku. Well it is Obvious that FG did this so that the Court will not sit.One thing I have respected Atiku till date is him being able to get justice from the courts for Nigerians.Nobody would have voted Atiku anyway.
Obj is still dreaming of ruling Nigeria from Ota when he is out of office, so he goes the extra mile of disrupting the whole country with public for himself and his cronies like Andy, Tony Anenih, etc.
Please don't forget that they realised the F**k up and now said that banks will be open.I have been able to make transaction yesterday and today.

I would not call anybody that says that they want to be nigerian president a Clown because it is possible. Is Atiku and Obasanjo not clowns? What do this men Know.
At this level of exposure someone like Obasanjo will still share money to the states and LGs and call it Oil windfalls and this money are not accounted for. He just commissioned Tinapa and has now remebered that we should build an airport for Tinapa yet he was the person that laid the foundation Stone or he thought Donald Duke Steal all the money from the project Like his friend Odili.

A lot of NGO in Nigeria are just used to support employment, All they do is travel all over the place, a friend of mine had to pay 130000 naira to go for an anger management course in South Africa and then came back to pay another $2200 to go for course in UK which a University invited them for. Should we be spending all this Amount to get trained for charity from our pocket. That money would have train many Kids in Nigeria.
I feel it is all about money making and sustaining themself
