You keep shooting yourself in the foot because you seem incapable of understanding what you're arguing about.
.
How so? I say they tack in his father's shooting prowess to demystify Curry's own and you argue against it by saying they bring up player's alma mater. What is the connection? If I said Kyrie went to Duke [but his father was the head coach] even if Kyrie was averaging 40ppg people would say he got the chance to because of his dad. I don't know how MENSAs interpret such things but it whittles down Kyrie's achievement to people with common sense.

Physical traits are different from acquired skills. You arent born with a shooting gene so saying your father is a good shooter doesnt mean you dont deserve credit for being a good shooter yourself.
Hence, why telling us about his dad's shooting prowess can be interpreted the way I have been doing it. Thank you for making my case for me.

Oh i see, only black nba players have the complex. The black members of the 100 man voting panel dont. And stop bringing fans into this, you're disgracing yourself.
Gee, what will be the essence of the black members of the 100-man panel hating on his skin to the degree that his fellow NBA players do?

When I said other black rappers look down on Drake's experiences or Eminem's - is the common factor not "other" and "rappers" showing the disdain? Is this issue not about people in the same profession? Is PP not a (former) player?

How does it relate to journalists and NBA players both of which are usually mutually exclusive?

And you said someone else was disgracing himself grin

They bring up the alma mater of every player in the NBA. How does that tie into the argument that the subtle inclusions of Dell into every Steph talk is to explain and whittle his success? For Kyrie to have gone to Duke is it not clear he was highly recruited so what point are you trying to make? And while at it, who is Kyrie's dad and what has he achieved?

Lebron did not have a father? So the basketball gods impregnated his mother or what? So no interviewer had asked her whether his dad was an athelete or tall like they did in the past to discover that Jalen Rose's father was an NBA player?

The narrative about knowing Bron's father would have taken some of his shine if we found out Magic Johnson had a fling in Ohio sometime in '83. You notice all of a sudden the mystery surrounding James' skill set or durability will be put to bed. Nobody gets flummoxed for e.g to know that Manut Bol's kids are 6'11"+ in height because....

In the same way needing to relate SCs skills to his upbringing is a subtle way of demystifying it AKA playing it down.

LOL @ Drake. I might be the biggest Drake fan on Nairaland so you want to be careful when you make allegations about him that you cannot back up with facts. Let me leave it at that for now. Racist or not, in American parlance "light-skin" means soft or privileged or spoiled. Ask Kobe Bryant what he thinks.

Actually, some NBA players have that light-skin complex and some seasoned journalists have reechoed my sentiments. Chris Broussard for instance has done so more than twice. I think I prefer what Chris has to say than you or what do you think?

The people who could have reached are the fellow NBA players but thankfully their votes did not count like zeroes before the decimal. Fans and Journalists whose votes select MVPs are the reason his unprecedented season did not get marred by some jealous NBA players.

NBA stars don't like him because of the privilege he receives as the league's "Golden boy". I think sources have confirmed this.

http://www.complex.com/sports/2017/04/do-lebron-james-and-other-nba-stars-really-hate-stephen-curry

Same comparison happens for every NBA player who had a relative who played the game. When they talk about his brother Seth they can't help but compare him to his brother, it's not a matter of reminding people what his Dad did, its just like saying it runs in the family or something like that. Same goes for kyrie and his Dad and kyrie isnt light skinned. And what if his Dad taught him? Most NBA players learn from somewhere so I don't understand how this related to him being "light skinned".

If complexion influenced opinions not performance then markelle who was better than Lonzo in college would be ranked or rated higher. Simmons wouldn't be seen as the future transcendental player he is seen as.

LMAO. Drake gets stick because he associates himself with gangsta life and hood struggles, something he clearly has no right to claim. Makes him fake as hell. If he had stuck to singing or rapping in a different style or about different issues like say kid cudi no one would come for him.

Why doesn't Chris Brown or even tyga get the same stick?

I don't know what you've been reading but show me one list of great rappers that doesn't have Eminem in its top 5 because I know a lot actually place him at number one. Something I personally don't agree with. But this is a subjective issue so I won't fault you for having your opinions, no matter how ridiculous it seems to me.

It seems fans interacting with each other and meeting other fans with this 're tarded opinion makes fans the only people with this notion. I have never heard any player or anyone within the NBA openly come out and say anything about his complexion playing a factor in their opinion about him so until then or proven otherwise it doesn't exist.

Again this is Paul Pierce, he says stu pid things, why should you care? Why would there be such outrage around the NBA if it wasn't so shocking or if they disrespected Steph?

Westbrook did things last year everyone thought was impossible. He wasn't unanimous MVP, nor is he considered the best PG. He didn't say it's cause he's not light skinned.

Privilege pre and now in the NBA makes more sense as a motive than skin complexion, but even that is reaching. Especially amongst people who are within the same community.
If someone says Malia Obama got into Harvard [but her parents are legacy and her father is a former president] does that not subtly mean she may have not merited it on academic grounds?

I don't understand your line of reasoning and bringing Kyrie into this. Why does nobody relate Lebron's skill to "I am sure his dad must have been a tall athletic freak or something"? Because doing that will to some degree taint the luster of the player they want to make him out to be.

There is really no point with the back and forths as valid points through analogies will just get strained into unnecessary arguments. You literally said Drake acts black even when Charlemagne and even other black rappers are known for calling him a "light-skin" dude. Or the same Drake who said; "I used to get teased about being black and now I'm here and I'm not black enough. 'cause I'm not acting tough and making stories about where I'm actually from". Or do you have the song where he associated himself with gangsta life and hood struggles?

Dude, the point about Eminem is that he is largely more successful than Tupac, BIG and even Jay Z in terms of pure album sales. He freestyles better than them all. Has better word play and rhyme schemes. Shows more versatility etc yet he gets honorable mentions in such lists when he should really be topping it. That is the point. And yes, 100% he would have topped all such lists if he was black skinned.

You seem to walk around NBA circles a lot to expect players to say anything to you or maybe the NBA players themselves should come out and announce that Curry's skin complexion feeds into their jealousy of him. I don't know how that works when juxtaposed with common sense.

If WestBrook was not unanimous MVP or regarded as the best PG in the NBA you don't wager it had to do with the fact that some other player had an equally great season as him? Or you think SC would have been a unanimous MVP in 15/16 had WestBrook posted his 16/17 stats that same year? Or should we keep stretching these analogies about skin/complexion biases like yoga-exercises?

WeissBarlow:
Accept which fact?

Mind you you're talking about Paul Pierce here. Someone known for making outrageous claims about everything and everyone.
We accept that Paul talks out his ärse. We are just saying he is not the only NBA star that "disrespects" Curry this way.

No disrespect to Lonzo and Simmons but they are not yet superstars to be pit with Curry in this conversation. Curry is treated like a privileged kid. Whenever players want to compliment his shooting they would always tack "His dad was a good shooter himself" at the end of the sentence to remind everyone that Curry's dad played professional basketball and therefore taught him.

It is a subtle way of saying "if some of us had the same dad or upbringing we would be as good". You may not agree but it is a fact. If you listen to contemporary rap music you would know that Drake feels the same way.

He constantly complains that "his struggle seems different than others". They downplay whatever he achieves and make it seem like he had it easy compared to other "black" rappers.

In the same way, Dirk Nowitzki and Eminem get treated with the same disdain for being white in a predominantly black man's sport. How many top 5 rappers lists will they place Eminem there even when he does everything better than other black rappers who lived before or after him?

It is the same way in the NBA. The only people who don't succumb to that narrative are the fans and perhaps the journalists that voted him MVP twice etc.
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by Eruditor: 11:15pm On Oct 27, 2017
Complexion and being born "wealthy" play into their opinions about him whether you agree or not. The evidence is there.

You say playing with the Warriors has to do with it but nobody saw this Warriors as anything prior to Kerr in 14/15.

I don't know which part of the season will make Paul Pierce make this claim. Curry is averaging 29ppg at this point and Wall just got outfoxed by a rookie Lonzo.

I like Wall, but, this season he has not been the best PG in the east so I can't understand where Pierce is coming from. But it is all good.

LeBrons a good rebounder. Because he played PG today he finished the game with 2 boards. That's because rebounding duty falls on the front court who forward the ball to the PG who should already be in transition and ready to receive the ball.

Last year we saw the bigs of OKC helping him stat pad. He contested the third least number of 3 pointers (a point guard) with the other two being bigs.
You ain't never lie bro.

Most points guards these days get their rebound that way....
Brook Lopez screens big so that Lonzo can get the ball....
others do the same also....

that's the league new trend nah
The rebounds they could easily get themselves? No sir. You screen for your teammate when he is in a better position than you.

Sadly, that did not happen with Russell and OKC last season. They were helping him get his 10 rebounds per game bruh.

"I put it to you that his double figure rebounds were largely as a result of stat-padding"

This is wrong bro.....

he’s a fantastic rebounder regardless, and the best-case scenario for Oklahoma City is for him to grab a rebound and immediately start a fast break. Those numbers are inflated — James Harden’s contested rebounding percentage, for example, is several points higher than Westbrook’s, according to NBA.com’s player tracking statistics

Link: https://googleweblight.com/i?u=https://www.sbnation.com/2017/3/26/15066852/russell-westbrook-rebound-bowls-over-victor-oladipo-thunder&grqid=mweCUD71&hl=en-NG
These things were disproved guy. On many occasions the Bigs screened people for Russell to get the routine rebound. So what use did the bigs have in OKC? Exactly. That is why Adams and Kanter became useless in Russell's triple double season.

All that talk about fast break is also not true. The ball travels faster than Russell ever will so he could have as well charged down the court whilst the big passed the ball. That would have been a faster break.

Russell was stat-padding the life out of his rebounds thus making the triple doubles inorganic and offputting.

AndrewFarms:
my main point is that the stats Westbrook was putting was not for putting sake Buh cuz it helps the team when it plays all-round (shooting, rebounding and assist) than when he only shoots and rebound/assist.....

Remember Kobe MVP season......
He average I think up to 35ppg on an average team Buh if he didn't you know Lakers wouldn't have qualified for the playoffs....
That's what Westbrook did all season last year.....
Some can say he's all about the stats Buh I can say he did what he had to do to make them make the playoffs
That's true definition of "mamba mentality"
Oga, if wins to loss column for triple doubles was 76%, wins to loss column for double doubles was 75% for Russell and OKC. This implies that OKC could have had the same season if Russell did not average a triple double.

A triple double involves points, assists and rebounds right? I put it to you that his double figure rebounds were largely as a result of stat-padding. We discussed this on this thread last season. No need rehashing it.

Ain't tryin to force him on you, you have to admit he is one of the best passer if not the best after CP3, thats why harden is on that list also and he is a better defender than harden, just that John Wall is better at him at going coast to coast in terms of speed......

John Wall doesn't have Russell's mentality (who does?)

Athletically speaking they aren't far apart, Russ is the better 3 point shooter, I would say the mid range is simliar (people sleep on how much better John Wall's mid range became, that is a big reason why he became such a better player this season, defenses can no longer sag off him when he comes in the 3 point line).

Wall better passer, Russ better rebounder, but Russ's aggression and mindset during the game is what let's him put up those ridiculous stat lines, he is so relentless.

Oga wait. I did not say JWall is better than him overall but as a passer JWall is.

Russell and Harden had equally bad defence last year and stats made Russell to actually be worse.

TRIPLE-DOUBLES = WINS FOR OKC

Westbrook has been asked a number of times why he thinks the Thunder typically win when he hits the triple-double bar. The truth might be in the assists -- when Westbrook records 10 dimes, the Thunder are 36-12. When he shoots 25 or more times, they're 17-18. The Thunder are often at their best when Westbrook lets his distribution lead and his scoring follow.

I don't believe it's any conspiracy and it's even way to early into the season for it but just like yesterday's game, the refs calls were outrageous, if you're going to do that all night at least make the call on the opponents too. Calling every flop a foul.

Curry's reaction was a build up of ththe previous game and also the first 3Quarters. If I'm fouled 1million times, the rule says the refs must call it. I'm sure you didnt watch the game hence, you're asking him not to moan.

TAKE THAT FOR DATA. grin cheesy
Guy, forget unanimous MVP. The league want to forcefully create this parity they are pretending GSW usurped. A physical team like Memphis getting 10 more FTs than GSW FFS. After a while, when ratings drop they will have to go back to regular officiating.

Everyone knows that putting Curry in foul trouble is one sure way to get that L on GSW. Ticky tacky fouls against Cavs game 6 paved the way. Ticky tacky fouls against Houston in game 1 this season. Same against the Pels but they did not envisage Klay's game. I watched yesterday's game and went to bed at half time knowing Memphis would win despite being only 5 points ahead. Why? Because Conley could play D on him yet Curry had 4 fouls by half time. Half time FFS!

Anyways, e go soon tire NBA. This is their way of making GSW start with five Ls ahead of the lot to spice up the league. Like Kerr said, they should suspend Curry for 13 games for tossing away his mouth guard. It is the worst crime in the world apart from being a risk to people's lives and property.
