How the hell can physical attributes be a talent? So if two guitarists are equally good, we'll separate them based on how fat or slim their fingers are?
You can separate them based on their dribbling. Since it is a talent. It applies.

Good thing you did not claim to have followed this argument from your mother's womb. That is my consolation in this...I guess.

Eruditor,

I think what you are meaning to put across is how a secondary attribute can aid supreme application of a primary attribute. It doesn't mean the secondary attribute is the talent itself.

The others are saying the word talent cannot be used to describe an attribute that cannot be trained.

I think where the mistake is, is the putting all attributes under the same classification. It is incorrect to reach that conclusion.
If we are using a fixated dictionary meaning of the word, yes. My argument even that time, was that the dictionary meaning did not capture all the essence of the word. It is the same argument I am belaboring now.

You are a joke. That's what wholly defines the word 'talent' bro. You can't throw away the word 'ability' embedded in 'talent'. Hazard is not talented because of his low centre of gravity or ikebe.

Please define talent for me?

The definition of faith in the dictionary is close to what is in the bible. What is absurd is calling tallness a natural aptitude or skill. So cossy with big booobs is talented, cos of her boobs. cheesy
Talent: Traits that may predispose someone to success in a chosen field.

Natural aptitude or skill is one definition of talent and merely describes technical talent. There are varying defintions that capture the other aspects of talent.

CR7 for the most part is a psychological behemoth. That is physically advantaged and technically endowed. That is why people say he is very talented. He covers most of the spectrums of talent in soccer.

Does the Bible's definition of faith for example, mirror what you see in a dictionary?

I have never seen a group of people call someone wrong, who has opinions from experts backing him when they in return are just brandishing their own non-expert opinions as facts. It is facetious.

Chelsea fans and having sense. Talk about oxymoron.

Okay, is dribbling a talent? How come Maradona is not as good a coach as Mourinho even though one of them was a renowned dribbler?

Because dribbling as a talent is not applied to football managers but it is applied to players.

The link I provided above defined Talent as exactly that.

If you like go and quote Nelson Mandela. You can call tallness an advantage. It is of no use if the player has no skill.

The article you directed me to, also added that many wouldn't agree with the author. Is the author even an English? He failed by not defining the word.

Good to say, that united guy that deactivated because of his big nose, has a nassal talent. cheesy
If I like I should quote an expert it does not matter to you?

Lol. And you think you are mocking me? grin

He never said many will not agree with him. He said it is not the norm to describe talent that way.

But when something is not the norm it could be above the norm or below it. Dullards usually reason below the norm. Average minded people reason at the level of the norm. There is however an ilk of those who reason above the norm. The 1percenters as some would call them because they are few.

Let me just stop there.

Having very strong arithmetic abilities is it a talent? Most will say yes.

But is it a talent in playing soccer?

That is why I said talent as is being used is nuanced.

Bros physical attribute and advantage no be talent.
Will you say someone is a talented tall man?
Even mc oluomo and his boys go laugh you.
Like I said, you are not saying anything new. Mostly regurgitating the same feeble arguments I had to suffer through when this argument was a thing.

During that time, I provided links of people differentiating between categories of talent. You had physical talents, technical talents, and psychological talents etc. On this thread, many people refer to Hazard as someone who balks during the big moments. They are indirectly saying he is psychologically talentless. Drogba seemed to perform best in the finals compared to a Henry for instance. Some argued too that Psychologically Drogba had more talent than Henry yet Technically, he did not.

I actually quoted a link here with someone miles away saying the same thing. And if you do your research, you will find more than 5 people saying same. On the other hand, you will not find one person arguing against them except here.

Should I then disregard more learned people and pander to the whims and caprices of people who know fuckall about the subject matter? I beg not.

Sorry, they don't make enough revenue from this besides, I am not even sure you understand what netspend is in relation to the way your comrades are using it against Pep.

What they mean is, if you subtract how much City made from selling players to how much they spent on buying players you can have the netspend of the club.

My counterargument is, if you sell Yaya and buy say Fred, your netspend will be 50M. But if you sell Matic and buy Bakayoko your NetSpend will be 5M or so or even 0M.

Now anyone who turns around to say Pep is a cheque book manager because his NetSpend is 50M does not have any sense because Yaya had zero value at the time of his sale compared to a Matic who still did and so on.

No need to rehash this argument; talent usage is nuanced. There are many links advocating my position. The balanced way to argue your point will be to bring links of others arguing against my position.

And no, posts from Nlders who largely give democratic opinions will not count.

Going by dat same logic i guess one can argue dat shortness is also a talent cos u hardly see a tall target man or defender dat is quicker than a shorter compatriot...
Lol. I am not going to say anything new. I made my points with links while back when this argument erupted.

Low center of gravity is implicitly related to speed and pace. Messi, Hazard, Kante are few examples. That is one talent to their repertoire that other talented players like Kanu and Sergio Busquets lack.

So because for e.g Peter Crouch has a HEIGHT (not tallness or shortness) talent advantage does not mean he is more talented than Messi. If we were to list out all Messi's talents, I surmise he would have more talent than every other player in world football.

For instance, Messi's technique in shooting, balance, decision-making, foresight, body movement, dribbling, freekick taking, scoring, tenacity, acceleration etc etc are talents he has that Crouch doesn't.
