Politics › I Will Not Stay Beyond My Stipulated Time- Sheriff by erunz(op): 7:19pm On Feb 29, 2016
Olusola Fabiyi, Abuja

The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has said that he will not stay in office beyond the constitutionally provided time for his exit.

But he was not specific of when he would leave.

Sheriff spoke when he received forum of former PDP members in the House of Representatives, who paid him a courtesy visit at the party’s national headquarters.

He also vowed that there would be no imposition of candidates, saying that the National Working Committee of the party would, after much consultation, release programs for the national convention,

Recalled that PDP governors, National Assembly Caucus, Board of Trustees (BoT) and national caucus had last week mandated Sheriff and NWC to conduct national congress within three months.

Sheriff said,  “I, Ali Modu Sheriff, a man of character and integrity, one who would live up to expectation and his promises, hereby announce to the world that under no circumstances would I stay in office beyond the period prescribed by the Constitution of our party, the PDP.

“In the light of the above therefore, I will announce the Convention Congress Planning Committee after due consultation with all organs of the party within few days from today and I assure all faithful members of the party that I would do everything within my powers to ensure that I complete the processes of congress before the expiration of my time in office.

“l will do my best within the period left and as it is humanly possible to complete the convention and hand over to an elected chairman.

“By the time we finish congress everybody will be happy. PDP will not be run by impunity, the party will be returned its owners.”

Nigerian youths have gone on twitter to show their displeasure on the current leadership in the country, they use the #whereisthechange. Below are some of the tweet.

Mixed reactions greet Buhari’s leadership with #WhereIsTheChange

On Monday, cross section of Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to express their mixed feelings over the current state of the nation under President Muhammadu Buhari, barely nine months into his leadership. While some Nigerians lamented the state of the nation under the current leadership, a few others called for patience, pointing that nine months is too early to judge the administration.

Some of the issues which topped the reactions border on the resurgence of fuel scarcity in parts of the country; the recent killings in four villages of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, as a result of the clash between local farmers and Fulani herdsmen; the dramatic U-turn by President Muhammadu Buhari, in Qatar, where he stated that the vulnerable unemployed youths should not expect the N5, 000 welfare package, promised by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), during the last presidential election campaigns, as well as the current economic crisis rocking the nation.

Other issues that topped the reactions on the hash tag, #WhereIsTheChange, that was No. 1 on Twitter Trends, as at Monday afternoon, were the alleged rampant foreign trip by President Muhammadu Buhari; the inflationary cost of consumers’ products; the current erratic power supply across the country, among other issues. However, while some of the reactions were thought-provoking, others were funny as they were expressed in internet memes.

Politics › Nigerians May Soon Queue To Buy Salt - UTOMI by erunz(op): 4:03pm On Feb 26, 2016
Pat Utomi, professor of political economy and management expert, says Nigerians may start queuing to buy salt if the government fails to deal with the fundamentals of the economy. Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a breakfast programme on Channels Television, on Thursday, Utomi said the government needs to deal with the fundamentals of a producing economy. He said Nigeria should “learn from history” to fix the problem facing our economy. A similar economic crisis in the early 1980s saw Nigerians queue up to buy essential commodities such as milk and rice because the foreign reserves were down and importers could no longer access forex. “If you go back, it is good to go back, there is nothing new about what we are experiencing, it has been experienced in history. So if we can draw lesson even from our own history and what is going on elsewhere,” he said. “I came home from grad school to Nigeria in 1980 and people were pouring Champaign into bucket of water and washing their hands in it. “I mean that kind of madness needed ultimately to be reined in and when supply crashed and reality was beginning to settle, we said we don’t devalue, that time our currency was a block currency was just determined from the Central Bank, it was a block currency. “So central bank will say this is our currency and we continue to say this is our exchange rate we will not devalue, we were not changing the fundamentals of our economy, we were still mono-product, we were still dependent, were not selling. “And one day Central Bank of Nigeria could not pay due credit from all those who have supply arrangement with Nigeria and they stop supplying Nigeria and a few month later what were we doing, we were queuing up to buy sugar. It was called essential commodities, we were queuing up to buy salt. “If we don’t deal with the fundamentals we will queue again. It is not a matter of exchange rate. We are talking about symptoms; let’s deal with the fundamentals of a producing economy, diversifying the base of our economy which is not a light bob that you can switch on and off. “We need to be working on critical issues, the fundamentals of our economy; right now Nigeria economy to be very fair is a lot more diversify than people realize, most of it has happened without any serious incentives, plans or anything. “I mean we base our GDP and nollywood and co came into big play, nobody worked a strategy for that industry, just out of work fellows in television and whatever picked up their cameras and began to shoot this things, people laughed at first and it became an industry. “How do you creative incentives for those kinds of things to become real industry? Those are the issues that are really at stake. We must continue this conversation so that the incentives that are coming will be clear to people, because it is all about incentives.”

Politics › Corrupt EFCC Vs The People by erunz(op): 1:11pm On Feb 26, 2016
The rate of corruption from the EFCC,a body made to fight corruption is to much and the questions need to be ask before it’s too late. Why is Prince Uche Secondus the deputy Chairman of the PDP still being held by the EFCC for over 72hrs without any charges preferred against him in the court of law? His suppose accused Mr Jide Omokri who was said to have delivered 15 buses through the office of Mr secondus for the PDP presidential campaign has been released from the detention of the EFCC and allowed to go home while. Why is Prince Uche Secondus is still being held by the EFCC for vehicles that he only delivered why the man who procured them is being release.WHAT ELSE
DO WE CALL IT.THE FLAWS OF OUR DEMOCRATIC SITUATIONS?
It is worthy of note that Mr Jide Omokri stated to the EFCC that the buses he delivered to the PDP through Chief Secondus was through hire purchase agreement with Skymit motors lagos and are not yet paid for till date. One wonder s how this constitutes proceeds of crime. The reality of the situation and information coming out is that Chief Secondus ordeal is as a result of the Conspiracy between Chief Rotimi Ameachi former governor of Rivers state and the acting EFCC chairman Magu. On Tuesday when Chief uche Secondus reported at the EFCC office, he was subsequently about to be released just before evening but unfortunately Chief Rotimi Ameachi Visited the EFCC office where he met with Magu and after that meeting Uche Secondus was detained and not allowed to go back home as was their earlier decision. With the release of Mr Jide Omokri it is now clear that the conspiracy is to eliminate Chief uche Secondus using the EFCC
