SOCIAL MEDIA BILL IS A WAY OF APC SHUTTING THE VOICE OF THE YOUTH. |
Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, says the social media space needed clean up as the use of outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms was wrong. Odigie-Oyegun said this in Abuja on Wednesday in an interaction with newsmen. He said that the party’s stance on the controversial Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Matters known as the anti-social media bill was known. “The social media space needed clean up as the use of outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms is wrong”. He also said James Faleke will be replaced as deputy governor-elect should the need arise. On subsidy, he said: “ whether subsidy goes or stays is an intricate and major issue. ‘’If it has to go, the government must have to construct the palliatives to cushion the effect of the hardships that may come on the ordinary Nigerian. “Anyway, eventually, subsidy will have to go but we have not reached that stage yet. ‘’You cannot just wake up and announce that subsidy has been removed without putting the adequate programmes in place to cushion the negative aspects that may be involved.’’ The chairman told the newsmen that minimum wage was a delicate issue because there were a lot of forces at work. “The economy was run aground so badly that they have to borrow to pay salaries and this was not the creation of APC. “Today all governments are borrowing to pay salaries and that cannot be sustained. What the solution is on the longer term, the machinery of governance is still working on. “There is no method that is adopted that will not create stresses on any system but at the end of the day, we will find an answer,’’ he said. On Bayelsa election outcome, Odigie-Oyegun said that the party was not satisfied but said that since INEC had made a pronouncement on it, the option the party had was to accept it or go to court. ‘’We are waiting for the processes to be concluded, but I must say we have a lot of reservations about what has gone on up till the present moment. “If we win as we expect to win, the kind of reactions that we’ll take will be different,’’ he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/anti-social-media-bill-social-media-space-needs-clean-up-apc/ |

Security operatives trying to keep the peace in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital Despite police ban on processions and demonstrations in Bayelsa state, hundreds of PDP supporters , men, women and youths, took to the streets of Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state in protest of what they called ‘military hijack’ of the electoral process. The protesters who carried placards and sang war songs, attempted to storm election result collation centre. Messages on some of the placards read: “we need peace; we say no to evil; military, stay away from politics; leadership is about building, not destroying.” Security agents stationed in front of the State High Court, had a difficult time putting them under check as the angry protesters insisted on going into the collation centre, dead or alive, to see INEC officials. Security operatives trying to keep the peace in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital Not even reinforcement from operatives of the Nigerian Army deter the determined protesters who alleged that military operatives hijacked electoral process in the Southern Ijaw and Nembe local government areas. As at the time of filing this report, senior police officers were still appealing and. Negotiating with the protesters who insisted that only INEC commissioner must come and address them. The PDP candidate, Governor Seriake Dickson, in the results declared so far, has won five of the six local government areas. His opponent, the APC candidate, Timipre Sylva has won in one. The outstanding results are from Nembe and Southern Ijaw councils. The latter has over 120,000 registered voters and is said to be the stronghold of Sylva. http://naijalumia.com/bayelsadecides-pdp-supporters-protest-in-yenagoa/

The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), yesterday, urged the Adams Oshiomhole led government in Edo state, to fulfill its obligation in the payment of salaries of primary school teachers in the state. The state NULGE President, Mr Edward Illenikhena made this call Sunday while speaking to newsmen in Benin City on Sunday. He noted that while state governments within the South South region of the country have been meeting up their constitutional responsibilities, the Edo state government has taken exception to its obligations to teacher’s pay. Illenikena noted that the taking over of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base of area councils by the state government as largely responsible for the councils’ inability to meet its obligation as regards the payment of workers’ salaries. It would be recalled that state governments and the councils were to jointly fund primary schools, including payment of salaries of the teachers. http://authorityngr.com/2015/12/NULGE-urges-Oshiomhole-to-pay-teachers-salaries/ |
