The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai, says the days of Boko Haram sect are numbered as the Army has being recording successes in the ongoing battle against the insurgents in the North-East zone of the country, stressing that the network of the sect have met stiff resistance from officers of the Nigeria Armed Forces. The Army boss, who was speaking during the opening of a one-week seminar organised by the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army (TRADOC) in Minna, Niger State, said the Army is more than ready to bring the sect on its knees before the December deadline issued by the Federal Government. Buratai, who was represented at the occasion by TRADOC Commander, Major General Mobolaji Adeleke Koleoso, stated that with the theme of the one week Seminar titled: 'Middle Leadership and, Emotional Intelligence towards Ending Insurgency', it has gone to show that the days of Boko Haram are already numbered. According to him, "The military is seriously on top of the situation and by next month, the deadline set by the Federal Government to put an end to the insurgency in the country will be met". He maintained that with the confidence of soldiers at the battlefield already boosted, there will be no escape route for the insurgents because all mechanisms towards achieving results have been set in motion and this will make the job of the soldiers at the front line easier. Buratai said the insurgents have been disorganised as they no longer pose any threat to the soldiers. He also said the operation is anchored on discipline and good initiatives to neutralise the insurgents. According to him, the seminar which was the first of its kind to be hosted by TRADOC would serve as an avenue for officers to understand leadership in a new form using Intelligence Quotient (IQ) module http://authorityngr.com/2015/11/Boko-Haram-s-reign-is-over-says-Buratai/ |

When the matter was called on Monday, counsel to the applicant Mr Anthony Orunkoya, informed the court that the matter was slated for ruling. Airtel Nigeria has embarked on a “strategic shake-up” in a move it says would reposition the business and “reinforce its competitiveness in the market place”. The mobile network operator did not disclose the number of staff affected by the development but we are made to understand it is “negligible”. “Handsome” compensatory packages were also handed to the affected staff by the “right-sizing”, Reports said. The affected staff received three months salaries in lieu of notice and an additional one month for every year they have worked, sources said.http://authorityngr.com/2015/11/Airtel-Nigeria-Sacks-Workers/ |

The Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka has described the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed as unfit to speak for any decent government, saying, “he speaks like a tout.” Olayinka, who reacted to statement by the Minister that Governor Ayodele Fayose and others kicking against President Muhammadu Buhari’s Treasury Single Account policy should return to elementary school, said it was shameful that the Minister ran away from the main issue and chose to attack personalities. Lai-Mohammed Minister of Information & Culture, Lai Mohammed Olayinka said: “Now that Daddy Lai Mohammed has been elevated to the position of the spokesperson of the Federal Government of Nigeria, he needs to be purged of the APC basket mouth syndrome that made him to speak like a tout.” Governor Fayose’s spokesperson insisted that the Federal Government must explain to Nigerians why and how it mortgaged their existence to a single company that has made what no manufacturing companies with thousands of employees can make in one month. Olayinka said “Ekiti State under Governor Fayose is managing its finances perfectly well without the Treasury Single Account, which is obviously aimed at enriching a few individuals at the expense of Nigerians.” He advised President Buhari to urgently de-brief Lai Mohammed so that he will operate normally as a spokesperson of the government and not APC propagandist. Olayinka said: “At 63, Lai Mohammed should know that speaking for the federal government of Nigeria is different from speaking for the APC, which he did by always tying corn to his anus while dancing naked at the market place. “He should know that opposition is a major ingredient of democracy and any democratic government devoid of opposition must be ready to embrace anarchy. “It is therefore the duty of Nigerians, especially the National Assembly to ask questions on the administration of the resources being held in trust for them by those in power and it is the responsibility of government at all levels to explain. “When a man like Lai Mohammed, who is employed and being paid with tax payers’ money now chooses to insult Nigerians just because they ask questions, sane minds should pity the President who employed such a loquacious person to speak for his government. “As for Governor Fayose, he will continue to uphold the truth and speak in the overall interest of Nigerians, not minding the offensive odour emanating from the propaganda infected mouths of Lai Mohammed and his ilk.” http://linkis.com/www.vanguardngr.com/szbgw |

The President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki, has said that no amount of intimidation will stop the assembly from investigating the alleged N25 billion Treasury Single Account (TSA) fraud. Saraki was reacting to a motion moved by Sen. Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West) on Tuesday over a newspaper article allegedly blackmailing the Senate for pointing out the alleged fraud. Senator Saraki Senator Saraki He said the assembly would not relent in carrying out its constitutional duties, including pointing out any action that would be detrimental to Nigerians. “No amount of either blackmail or intimidation will stop us from doing the work we have to do. “We have a responsibility here to ensure that there are no leakages in government funds and if there are, we will call the attention of the public and do whatever it takes to salvage the situation; it is our responsibility. “ The fact about the TSA will come out and everybody will have opportunity before the committee to state the fact, the facts will speak for themselves,’’ he said. Saraki said the assembly would expedite action on the inauguration of Standing Committees to enable it to begin its oversight function fully. Earlier, Melaye said his attention was drawn to the write-up accusing the Senate of working against President Muhammadu Buhari’s effort to implement TSA. He expressed concern that the writer could conceive such an idea in spite of the National Assembly’s resolve to work with Buhari in fighting corruption. Melaye recalled that it was the assembly’s stand on the alleged TSA fraud that led SystemSpecs to refund the one per cent it collected from mopped up funds to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). “The writer said we are against the change agenda of Mr President because we raised the abnormality going on with the implementation of the TSA. “We did not at any time in this Hallowed Chamber implicate President Muhammadu Buhari of being involved in TSA fraud. “ We will not stop carrying out our legislative duties for fear of being blackmailed. “The motion moved last week had two prayers. “The first thing we did was to thank Mr President and commend him for the implementation of the TSA and for anyone to say the Senate is fighting Mr President is myopic, parochial and unacceptable. “I have a letter here that I am going to lay with this paper, written by the Director, Banking and Payment of CBN to the Managing Director of SystemSpecs. “The CBN categorically stated that they should remit the one per cent that they collected. “I also have a letter here by the managing director of that company to the Accountant General of the Federation and the Governor of CBN that have completely buttressed and elicited our decision last week. “ So for people to blackmail us as irresponsible, it is not acceptable to me and the Senate. “Never would we allow blackmail and political and economic bigots to destroy the people. We are for the people and we will stand in defence of public interest,’’ he said. The write-up and letters cited by Melaye were referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition to be returned to Senate in one week. The Senate had on Nov. 11 raised alarm over alleged payment of N25 billion to one e-collection firm, REMITA, in one day as one per cent of monies transferred to TSA. It also directed its Committee on Finance, Banking and other Financial Institutions and Public Accounts to carry out a holistic investigation into the matter and report back in two weeks. http://linkis.com/www.vanguardngr.com/szbgw |

...Have mercy on us, commuters, motorists beg FG If the current fuel scarcity persists till next month, President Muhammadu Buhari may have a first taste of national mass protests from Nigerian workers since he came to power on May 29 this year. The planned protests will be led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the largest trade union in the country. Hints of the pending mass action were dropped by the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, on Monday in Kaduna. An angry Wabba, who decried the worrisome fuel crisis and the hardship it has brought on Nigerians, warned that the NLC will embark on mass protests if the scarcity goes beyond the December deadline given to President Buhari to address the situation. Wabba said that should the Buhari-led Federal Government fail to arrest the situation before next month, organised labour will be forced to take action in the interest of Nigerians. The NLC boss, who bemoaned the avoidable hardships Nigerians were subjected to because of the scarcity, argued that the problem can only be resolved if the Federal Government stops the importation of refined petroleum products and build "more functional refineries." The current scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol has been attributed to the non-payment of outstanding subsidies to oil marketers. The government had two weeks ago announced the approval of N413 billion for the settlement of subsidies' claims to the marketers. But last Wednesday, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, disclosed that the money was yet to be paid to the marketers because the National Assembly had not approved it. He promised that the money would be paid in a week's time. If that holds, the marketers are likely to receive the money tomorrow. Some of the fuel importers said that the current scarcity of products was due to their inability to import more products into the country because of the huge debt owed them by the government. But at the opening of the 2015 Harmattan School in Kaduna, Wabba expressed concern that with the scarcity which has resulted to long queues at fuel stations across the country, workers had resorted to going to work late while prices of food stuff and transport fares had gone up. This, he said, was unacceptable and urged the Federal Government to do something before the situation really gets out of control. "This problem can only be resolved if the government stops the importation of petrol and builds more functional refineries," Wabba said. The NLC President said that with the recent transition in the country and with the old problem of economic decline, corruption, insurgency and the need to consolidate on the nation's democratic gains, the theme of the 2015 Harmattan School: "Rebuilding the Labour Movement For Economic Growth and Democracy," had become imperative. He stressed the need for strong alliances between organised labour and civil society organisations to form a formidable force to tackle the numerous challenges facing the country. Wabba said that the revitalisation of the labour movement in the country had become imperative so that it can "speak against corruption and the ungodly Boko Haram activities which have stultified our nation from achieving growth and development." As the NLC demands action against the lingering fuel crisis, motorists and commuters have urged the Federal Government to save them from the severe hardships imposed on them by the high transport fares and food prices due to lack of fuel. They also lamented that their businesses had been brought to a standstill because they have no fuel to run their operations as most of them rely on generating sets for electricity. Some commuters in Akwanga, Keffi, and Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, described the current scarcity as very acute, adding that most filling stations have hiked the price of petrol from N87 per litre to between N110 and N130 per litre. They said that black marketers have also raised the price to between N180 to N200 per litre. The AUTHORITY on Monday, discovered that transport fare from Lafia to Keffi had risen from N400 to N600 for a journey of one and half hours, while from Karu in Abuja to Lafia, passengers pay N1,000 instead of N700 before the product scarcity started. A commuter, Mrs. Grace Ishaku said: "I left home with N1,300 for both transportation and to buy Irish potatoes at Akwanga from Nasarawa Eggon which usually attracts N150 as transport fare, which N300 would have been sufficient to take me to and fro but because I had to pay N500 for transportation only, I was unable to meet my target of buying a half bag of potatoes. So I ended up buying a basket at N600." Another commuter, Mr. Emmanuel Anejuka, said the past government, as people were made to believe, ruined the system but the present administration of Buhari has not made any difference neither. "So, we don't know who to blame as politicians are making a mockery of the Nigerian masses." The AUTHORITY learnt that some filling stations were hoarding petrol and also unwilling to sell at the official pump price. Meanwhile, the NNPC has advised the general public to report cases of hoarding and selling of fuel above the official pump price by its outlets across the country. The Managing Director of NNPC in charge of retail, Mr. Ladipo Fagbola, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday. He said that the corporation was monitoring the activities of its retail fuel stations to check sharp practices among them. Fagbola noted that given the large volume of fuel supplied in the country, the NNPC would ensure that Nigerians received the best services at the fuel stations. He urged Nigerians to report fuel stations which engaged in the hoarding of petroleum products and selling above the official pump price of N87 through the following hotlines: 08057008021, 08052195801 and 08100941174. http://authorityngr.com/2015/11/FUEL-SCARCITY--NLC-threatens-mass-protests/ |

Northern groups, the youth wing of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and a political pressure group of women in Sokoto State under the aegis of association of Sokoto State Women in Politics (SSAWP), have expressed concern over the continued occupation of the Abuja home of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.): Former NSA Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.): Former NSA Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, weekend, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the national president of the youth wing of ACF, said the act amounts to ‘impunity’ on the part of the Federal Government. Shettima threatened to mobilise Nigerians against what he described as the President Muhammadu Buhari’s dictatorial tendency, if not quickly checked. The ACF youth leader called on the Federal Government to respect the ruling of a Federal High Court on the matter and immediately ask the operatives of the DSS to vacate the former NSA’s home. He said, “We are saddened by the handling of the case of the former NSA because so many gaps can be seen in all the attempts to justify why such a high profile Nigerian should be treated the way he has been treated by this country. This is the first time an intelligence service official would be so treated. “Indeed, a recent court order granted the man the permit to go for medical attention, only for the DSS to overrule it. “There is no convincing justification why the DSS should ignore an order granted by a court of competent jurisdiction. “On no account should the former NSA’s right as protected by a court in the land be trampled upon. This is taking us back to the dark days of military dictatorship and it is unfortunate. “It is sad that the DSS offered explanation to its actions against Dasuki only when public outcry became louder. “This Gestapo style is unacceptable under a democratic atmosphere. We view the action of the DSS with shock and surprise, considering the fact that rule of law is a pillar of any meaningful change. It will be suicidal to allow Nigeria to drift into a one-party state. “Much as President Buhari in particular and the administration in general, would want to sanction anyone for any wrongdoing, it should be seen to doing so in a civilised manner, free of any tendency towards partisanship. “Even if it is a coincidence, the continuous arrest of people from one and the same political party is a bad coincidence that creates a wrong impression,” he said. Similarly, the SSAWP, has vowed to take the Federal Government and the DSS, to court in order to compel them to allow for the freedom of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd). Hajiya Kulu Abdullahi Rabah, the national coordinator of the association stated this in Sokoto, while addressing women group in her office. Hajiya Kulu said “Dasuki was legally allowed to travel by a competent court of law that granted him leave to travel abroad for medical treatment. Therefore, it is wrong for the operatives of DSS to disrupt his peace and confine him into house arrest without following same due process and rule of law. “This action of the DSS has shown that President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against injustice is selective and DSS are becoming tool of intimidation against those who are believed to be in opposition or perceived enemies of the current government without respect of law of the land,” she said. While condemning the DSS action on the encroachment of Dasuki’s fundamental rights, she promised to lead other women in the state to demand justice against such action. “For every and any mistake made by the DSS, President Buhari should be held responsible and must account for this before the Almighty Allah, as he promised to protect every citizen of this country without political affiliation, affection or ill-will,” she said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/northern-groups-blast-buhari-over-prolonged-seige-on-dasukis-home/ |
Lucky is a known thief, but Oshiomole is a bigger thief. Oshiomole should know that before Lucky became Governor of Edo State, Esama of Of Benin already had Igbenedion university, Okada Airline, ITV and many other businesses. I also remember how the igbenedion's family helped him to become a governor. Oshiomole should get his acts right, not by raising false alarm like he did to NOI and GEJ. Oshiomole lost it with his too much talk and no action. |
This is impunity of the highest order. If the court have ruled that Dasuki's travel documents be released. And that he should be allowed to travel for treatment. Why still restrain him. |
