The National Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, NRMAN, said on Thursday in Abuja that the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, erred in its decision to lift the ban on importation of rice through the land borders. The Chairman of the association, Mohammed Abubakar, said the NCS overreached its statutory mandate as an enforcement agency in taking such a policy decision. Besides, Mr. Abubakar said, if the customs succeeded in its decision, it would destroy Nigeria’s rice value chain attained by the previous administration. Mr. Abubakar, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Umza Rice, said the decision was an attempt by the customs to legitimise the smuggling of rice. “First of all, the customs does not have the power to do that, it is a matter of national policy and customs does not make national policy, it is an implementation agency. “This will completely kill the rice value chain and everything concerning rice production will stop; customs does not have the right to make such decision. “This ban was placed six years ago and everybody knows that, so it does not have any reason to say rice should be brought in through the land borders. “Anyone who gives such directive has smuggling intentions,” he said. Mr. Abubakar said the association would do everything possible to make customs to see patriotic reason and rescind the decision. He urged government to be focused and have the political will to make sure Nigeria becomes self sufficient in rice production. Barely two weeks after some fulani herdsmen attacked and kidnapped the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Chief Olu Falae, some herdsmen have again destroyed the same farmland. The farm Manager Bruno Akhigbodemen conducted newsmen round the farm located at Ilado in Akure North Council area of Ondo State Over one kilometer plantation of maize was destroyed during the invasion at about 2am on Monday. Akhigbodemen said that the herdsmen arrived the farm with their cows and wrecked the havoc despite the horrible experience the workers and their boss had in the last two week sequel to their menace. He pointed out that effort by the guards to prevent the destruction of the farmland were rebuffed as they were threatened by the herdsmen until their cows grazed to their satisfaction. The farm Manager said that the former Finance minister has reported the latest destruction to the state Police Command for necessary action. Vanguard learnt that following the complaint by Chief Falae, some detectives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) were immediately deployed to the farm on Monday. They reportedly combed the neighboring villages for the suspects but they were unable to make any arrest. Report had it that the search still continues as some detectives still keep vigil in the village. It was gathered that the police authority has invited leaders of the herdsmen in the state who stood surety for those that were arrested and released during the last invasion when over N500, 000 worth of farm products were destroyed. Akhigbodemen described the destruction of the farm last week sunday as devastating. He appealed to the government and the security operatives to act decisively on the menace of the herdsmen. Chief Falae could not be reached for comment on the destruction of his farmland which is coming after his kidnapped and payment of N5m ransom to free him from his abductors. It would be recalled that the former Minister for Finance has been having issues with the fulani herdsmen whose cows have on several occasions destroyed his farmland. He is billed to travel abroad this weekend for medical treatment after his horrifying experience which he described as ” hell”. The latest destruction according to findings is the fifth within two months. Before his kidnap barely two weeks ago, two fulani herdsmen were arrested and detained for destroying over N500,000 worth of farm products on the farm. They were released after some of their leaders wrote an undertaker that they would pay compensation and would not encroach on the farm again. Barely three weeks after the episode, Chief Falae was abducted by some gun wielding Fulani herdsmen on the same farmland and was released after 72 hours. No fewer than three policemen have been deployed to his Oba Ile residence since his kidnap last month. Contacted on the Sunday invasion and destruction of the farm by the Fulani herdsmen, the Police Image Maker Femi Joseph said that he is not aware of the incident. Joseph was recently posted to the state and made the Command spokesman last week. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/breaking-again-fulani-herdsmen-invade-falaes-farm/ |
Nigerians went berserk when Senate President Bukola Saraki on Tuesday, October 6 finally unveiled the much awaited ministerial list submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari. Many were of the opinion that the names were hardly mysterious and not worthy of the fanfare that preceded their announcement. See: #TheList: Laments, anger trail Buhari’s underwhelming ministers Earlier, Buhari had affirmed that no individuals who had track records of corruption would form any part of his glorious Cabinet, prompting the belief that the President had a stash of saints and was only bidding his time before revealing them. Post Nigeria upon perusal came to learn that contrary to Buhari’s claim, a good number of the unveiled likely Ministers have various corruption cases hanging on their necks. Records have it that they have been allegedly indicted with various degrees of corruption cases pending before the Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFCC. 1. Babatunde Fashola The Former Lagos State Governor was involved in a scam worth N78.3m from the State’s treasury for an upgrade of his personal website. The contract for the refurbishment of the website was awarded to Info Access Plus Limited by the office of the Chief of Staff to the former Governor. Civil society groups called on anti-graft agencies to probe the N1.2bn spent on the construction of pedestrian bridges along Eti-Osa–Lekki– Epe expressway “which did not specify the number of bridges.” Other shady deals making the rounds include the N17m awarded for the provision of wall signage in three magistrate courts; N3.46bn spent for the construction of a beach resort in Ilase; and N61m disbursed for a Range Rover SUV and two Toyota Hilux trucks as the official vehicles for the Chief Judge of the State. The various petitions came in, following a similar outcry by anti-corruption group, the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL. Debo Adeniran, CACOL’s Executive Director, stated in an interview recently that his organisation’s independent investigation showed that the 1.36 kilometer Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge cost N6 billion, and not the N25 billion stated by Fashola’s administration. Adeniran also stated several petitions written to the EFCC to probe the various projects in the state in the face of the more than N500 billion debts left by Fashola’s administration. See: Fashola facing EFCC case as Pressure Group moves against him See: Fashola continues to grapple with N78 million website saga 2. Rotimi Amaechi Christie Amanpour’s Live Report on CNN revealed that Amaechi has been stacking money in different foreign accounts. According to the statement, Amanpour’s show said “the sum of over 757 million U.S. dollars was stacked by Amaechi in a foreign U.S. Bancorp/Minnesota account.” The Integrity Group, a Non-Governmental Organization, also sent a petition to EFCC to investigate Amaechi for the over N70bn stolen from the Rivers State Government. This amount is separate from the N21bn which the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP claimed Amaechi transferred from the Power Assets proceeds account of Access Bank to the accounts of three private companies with a 25 Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt address. Current Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike accused Amaechi of sponsoring Buhari’s presidential campaign organization with billions of naira stolen from the Rivers State coffers. See: I’m now a “common criminal” – Amaechi See: Why we must scrutinise Amaechi’s conduct – Wike 3. Lai Mohammed The demunitive National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and one time Chief of Staff to Ahmed Bola Tinubu , Lai Mohammed was accused by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh of embezzling funds meant for fencing of an airport in APC-led S/West States. According to Metuh, Mohammed fraudulently refused to supply ambulances after collecting monies from another APC S/West State and also acted as a personal aide to one of the alleged most corrupt politicians to ever bestride the political landscape of the country (Tinubu). Reliable sources have it that the amount diverted by Mohammed runs into billions of Naira. 4. Kayode Fayemi The Former Governor has been accused of diverting N4.1bn from workers entitlements to his party APC, while he was in office. The PDP statement that brought this to light, which was signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, alleged that Fayemi used ghost workers to perpetrate the fraud. “Some of the money involved in the fraud amounting to N2.1bn was withdrawn from the salary accounts of civil servants and moved to the APC secretariat for sharing from time to time in the four years that the APC government led by Fayemi lasted in Ekiti State. “The missing deductions from workers’ salaries for the months of April, May, June July and August, 2014 running to about N1.8 billion was also traced to the APC secretariat,” PDP alleged. The APC has tried to shield Fayemi from facing the full wrath of the anti-graft agency. 5. Chris Ngige The Former Governor of Anambra State in November 2013 was indicted for laundering N46bn Local Government Fund. The disturbing Police reports said: “The EFCC has stated that it has established how former Anambra Governor and candidate of the APC Dr. Chris Ngige in the November 16th governorship elections in Anambra laundered and misappropriated the N46bn of Local Government Funds between 2003 and 2006 when he held sway as the Governor.’’ The interim report signed by the then Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Hayatu Shaafa who led a team to investigate the petition against Ngige confirmed this. The well-detailed report stated that over a dozen persons, mostly key players in Ngige’s government, were questioned in the course of the investigation. All that emerged from the questions posed to such an array of former high government officials was the singing of a sorrowful song; “my duty is to obey instructions without asking questions.” “Once you begin to hear such a refrain, it is certain that something untoward, something indefensible, something odious, has happened,’’ a source stated at the time. As of press time, mixed feelings were still trailing Buhari’s nominations. http://www.post-nigeria.com/looters-amaechi-mohammed-fashola-others-yet-to-account-for-n800bn/ |
HANDIWORK OF ISLAMIC PARTY, APC. SINCE THEIR LIES COULD NOT WORK THEY ARE TRYING TO ASSASSINATE THE MAN OF GOD |
The Imo State House of Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Owerri has nullified the election of the member representing Owerri West State Constituency, Mr. Victor Onyewuchi. Onyewuchi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was dragged before the tribunal by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 governorship/assembly elections, Mr. Chidi Ihemedu. Ihemedu challenged the election on the grounds of electoral malpractices and non compliance with the electoral laws in the conduct of the election in eleven polling units of four electoral wards. The PDP candidate, in his petition, prayed the tribunal to invalidate the results of the affected units and order for fresh election. Delivering judgment, the tribunal noted that the onus of proof lies with the petitioner, which he did with submissions of relevant evidence. The tribunal, however, stated that the first respondent failed to efficiently counter the allegations in his response. The tribunal explained that testimonies of witnesses presented by the respondents’ counsel were contradictory and unreliable. https://www.today.ng/politics/22276/tribunal-nullifies-imo-apc-lawmakers-election-orders-re-run/ The tribunal, therefore, ordered INEC to conduct fresh elections in eleven polling units across the constituency within 90 days from Tuesday, October 06, 2015. Speaking with journalists, Ihemedu expressed happiness that the judiciary was still alive to its duties as the last hope of the common man. He stated that the judgment was another chance “given to us by God to right the wrongs of the past election because we saw a situation where there was hooliganism, outright bestiality right there at the local government headquarters”. However, speaking through his personal assistant, Dr. Collins Anah, Onyewuchi said the decision of the tribunal was surprising because “the PDP was claiming that election did not hold in the affected wards and units and during the process we were able to prove that elections actually held in all the affected polling booths. We also brought results from the booths. But we are surprised that the tribunal ruled and cancelled the election despite the evidences before it”. Onyewuchi indicated his interest to approach the Court of Appeal. |
