The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the All Progressive Congress (APC)- led administration to pay urgent attention to the management of the economy. The call is contained in a statement, issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Monday. It claimed that its worry stemmed from the fact that the economy had remained on rapid fall since the last four months. According to the statement, the fall is “apparently due to the absence of clear-cut fiscal policy direction and an economic team to deal with the domestic and global challenges associated with a developing economy.’’ It said PDP was in full support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts in tackling corruption and insurgency but was concerned about the economic situation of Nigeria. The party said it was worried that the government had not paid attention to indices from global economic watchers in spite of its predictable negative impact. The statement said as a responsible party, PDP was duty-bound, beyond politics, to draw the president’s attention to the fact that under the prevailing circumstances, the economy was threatened. It stated that the situation had become more worrisome following the “failure of APC administration to articulate any interventionist policy at this critical moment’’, especially against predictions that oil might sell for 20 dollars. “We caution strongly that this approach to governance is not healthy for our nation,’’ the party said. It said time had come for the president to take urgent steps to set up a crack economic team of experts to immediately swing into action and salvage the economy. “In managing this economy at this time, we urge the president, as the father of the nation, to look beyond partisan politics. “He should ensure that the policy frameworks and populist economic projects laid by the PDP administration, especially in the non-oil sectors are not allowed to rot but adequately utilised for the good of all.’’ It advices the APC administration to pay attention to various agricultural projects and programmes established in Nigeria by the PDP administrations, especially in the northern part. The projects include various dams and irrigation projects, the e-wallet financial empowerment system to farmers, associated to the over two million direct farm jobs. Others are the Green Belt project under Presidential Initiative on Afforestation in Kano and 10 other northern states, all in line with PDP’s agenda to return the region as the food basket of the nation. “The PDP believes that in the interest of millions of Nigerians citizens who look up to the political class for direction, it is now imperative on the APC-led federal government to pay deserving attention to the economy. “The administration should continue the policy of the past administration of opening the space for harnessing indigenous potentials.,’ it said (NAN) http://leadership.ng/news/461063/pdp-urges-apc-to-pay-attention-to-management-of-economy |

By Beauty Ehimhen Despite elaborate efforts to sweep it under the carpet, the unholy alliance agreement between the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and Jide Omokore’s Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited (AEDCNL) surfaced Sunday, on Twitter with the hashtag #ArrestOmokoreNow trending prominently. The deal helped parties in the agreement to swindle the country according to an investigative report by Sahara Reporters who uncovered the details of the deal that set Nigeria back by about $2 billion. Nigerians tweeting via the #ArrestOmokoreNow hashtag on Twitter called on President Buhari to order Omokore’s arrest based on the various damning allegations of massive fraud involving him and his Company. FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR WHERE BUHARI MADE THE STATEMENT THIS CAN HELP U. Corruption allegations[edit] During Abacha's regime, he and his family reportedly stole a total of £5 billion from the country's coffers.[12] In 2004, Abacha was listed as the fourth most corrupt leader in history.[13] Interestingly, during a service marking the 10th year anniversary of the death of the dictator, several former Nigerian heads of state, including Gen. M Buhari(rtd.), refuted claims that Abacha looted the country, claiming such accusations are "baseless".[14][15][16] Abacha's national security adviser, Alhaji Ismaila Gwarzo, played a central role in the looting and transfer of money to overseas accounts.[17] His son Mohammed Abacha was also involved. A preliminary report published by the Abdulsalam Abubakar transitional government in November 1998 described the process. Sani Abacha told Ismaila Gwarzo to provide fake funding requests, which Abacha approved. The funds were usually sent in cash or travellers' cheques by the Central Bank of Nigeria to Gwarzo, who took them to Abacha's house. Mohammed Abacha then arranged to launder the money to offshore accounts.[18] An estimated $1.4 billion in cash was delivered in this way.[19] In March 2014, the United States Department of Justice revealed that it had frozen more than $458 million believed to have been illegally obtained by Abacha and other corrupt officials.[20][21] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sani_Abacha |
Contrary to claims by President Muhammadu Buhari that former Head of State, the late General Sani Abacha never stole, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he left over N287bn in the national treasury, made up of $2bn, £100m and N10bn in cash and property, being the loot recovered from the late dictator, General Sani Abacha. According to Obasanjo, the funds were paid into the treasury through the Central Bank of Nigeria before he handed over power to the late Umar Musa Yar’Auda on May 29, 2007. Obasanjo’s disclosure was contained in the Vol. II of his memoir, My Watch and reviewed by Punch. On the memoir, Obasanjo disclosed, “In total, by the time I left government in May 2007, over $2bn and £100m had been recovered from the Abacha family abroad, and well over N10bn in cash and properties locally. All were paid to the public treasury through the Central Bank. “Enrico (Monfrini, a Swiss lawyer) told me by the time I left government that if he continued to get support for his work, there was still about $1bn he believed he could still recover from the Abacha family and cronies.” The former President claimed that there was a time he got a report that £3m cash was seized from an agent of the late military dictator by customs officials at an airport in UK and that the British authorities asked the Nigerian government to prove ownership of the money. “I went to London to have a meeting on another important issue with (former British Prime Minister) Tony Blair and I took the opportunity to raise the issue of the £3m, using the Yoruba anecdote of the thief who stole palm oil from the ceiling cupboard by getting somebody to help him so as not to spill the red palm oil on himself or the floor. The man who assisted became an accomplice. Tony got the message and the £3m was released to Nigeria the following day,” Obasanjo explained.
