Politics › Dear Northern Elders: Gej Never Marginalised The North By Barcanista by erunz(op): 10:02am On Sep 07, 2015
There is this deliberate attempt by a section of the Northern elders to justify the "Northocratic" appointments by Muhammadu Buhari. It is on record that 74% of appointments made by Buhari are Northerners. To justify the ethnocratic act of the President, some persons selectively and maliciously singled out a few positions held by Southerners under Jonathan to justify Buhari's Northocratism. Nigeria FG has so many Departments and Agencies that one can't be listing all of them at a go. However, I took my time and painstakingly singled out some Ministries and Agencies and listed the heads of these agencies plus their geopolitical zone.

It is unfair for a section of the North to propagate falsehood in their bid to justify the Northocratic appointments of President Buhari.

I will be glad to entertain anyone that can name ANY sector that GEJ marginalised the North.

Please call Buhari to order and behave like elders.

Politics › Undiputable Facts On Why You Should Join/support Pdp By Barcanista by erunz(op): 10:55am On Sep 06, 2015
1. EVERY WOMAN SHOULD JOIN/SUPPORT PDP:
PDP is the only party to make a female (Rt Hon Patricia Etteh) the Speaker of the House of Representative in 2007. The PDP further presented a Hon Mulikat Adeola as candidate for Speaker in 2011 but the APC/ACN/CPC in alliance with their rebellious PDP Colleagues (now APC) twarted it and produced Tambawal because they don't believe in female presiding over the male dominated House. The PDP however were not deterred, they unanimously elected her the House leader between 2011 and June 2015. Till date, the PDP is the only party to produce a Female House Speaker, Female House Leader and Candidate for House speaker. The APC is however credited as the ONLY party to thwart the aspiration of a Female Speaker. In the present National Assembly, though the APC has more members in both Chambers, the PDP still has the highest women NASS members. Nine of the 14 Female Reps are of PDP, while the APC have just five. In the Senate, the PDP have 4 female Senators while the APC have 3. One of the three APC female Senators is the wife of Bola Tinubu. Add to this is the fact that the present APC government has only appointed one woman (INEC's Zakari)out of ALL its 35 appointments so far. She's an in-law of the President.

2. YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD SUPPORT PDP:
In 1999 the PDP produced a '36' years old Honorable Salisu Buhari as Speaker of the House of Representative (though he was later disgraced out when record came that he was 29 as at when he contested and he had LIED about his age). In Nov 2007, the party presented a 37 years old Hon Dimeji Bankole as Speaker of the House. These men are the youngest occupant of that office.

All PDP Governors save Mimiko (61), Okowa (56) and Wada (55) are below 55 years. But APC boasts of TEN 55+ Governors. They are Oshiomole (63), Mansari (65), Ajimob(65), Ganduje(65), Aregbesola(58), Abubakar (Bauchi, 59), El rufai(55), and Gaidam (Yobe, 59).

3. THOSE AGAINST RECYCLING SHOULD LOVE PDP:
While the PDP caused some 'elders' to resign after the loss, the APC has been bringing back OLD people from retirement. APC brought Buhari, a 73 years old former dictator to contest against PDP's Jonathan, a 58years old democratic incumbent. Buhari (73) started resurrecting other old people. He brought Musa Daura (62) from retirement to head the DSS. He further went on to resurrected 77years old retired Col Hameed Ali, a former military administrator of Kaduna state between 96-98 to head the Customs. Not done, the APC has brought back a 66 years old Abubakar Audu as their candidate for Kogi election. Abubakar Audu was twice the state's governor- 1992-93 and 99-2003. What else is he looking for? Why the recycling? He's to challenge a 55years-old PDP Capt Idris Wada.

4. TRANSPARENT PEOPLE SHOULD LOVE PDP:
PDP Governor Yar'adua was the FIRST to publish a detailed declaration of his assets and liabilities. PDP President Yar'adua is the FIRST and ONLY president to publicly declare his detailed assets and liabilities. PDP VP Jonathan remains the first and only Vice President to declare his detailed assets to the public. PDP President Jonathan is the FIRST and only President that was committed to the signing and implementation of the Freedom of Information Act. On the other hand, APC President Buhari and VP Osinbajo could only publish a mockery undetailed and 'sourceless' document in their bid to deceive Nigerians.

5. LOVERS OF DEMOCRACY SHOULD LOVE PDP:
When PDP incumbent GEJ lost his re-election he called for peace because the people's will MUST prevail. APC however have no history of accepting election when they lose- NOT even when the courts revalidate PDP's victory. PDP's
Icons are Umaru Yar'adua (Mr Rule of Law) and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan (The man whose ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian). APC's Icons are the unrepentant former military dictator Muhammadu Buhari and the man that believes in imposition Tinubu.

6. BELIEVERS OF EQUITY AND FAIRNESS SHOULD LOVE PDP:
The PDP has Presented three different people from three different zones to as candidates for Presidential elections since 1999. Obasanjo (SW, Yoruba), Yar'adua (NW, Fulani) and Dr Jonathan (SS, Ijaw). The PDP also presented THREE different people from THREE different zones as VP candidates since 1999; Atiku (NE, Fulani), Dr Jonathan (SS, Ijaw) and Sambo (NW, Fulani). The APC/ACN/CPC/ANPP however have ALWAYS presented Fulani-men as Presidential candidates since 1999 save Falae; Buhari (NW, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015), Shekarau (NW/Fulani 2011), Atiku (NE/Fulani, 2007 under ACN). In fact, the APC openly declared the pathetic principle of 95% and 5%.

COME, JOIN AND SUPPORT PDP!

GOD BLESS NIGERIA
GOD BLESS PDP....POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Politics › President Buhari 100 Days Of Wasteful Leadership By Barcanista by erunz(op): 10:18am On Sep 05, 2015
His May 29 inauguration speech wasn't inspiring nor motivating. Highlight of that speech was 'I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody'. No vision and mission statement was reeled out. I wasn't impressed at that speech despite the media hype it was laced with. I maintained that the newly sworn-in President was not fit for leadership. He was not prepared either! It is 100 days into his administration, this article shall do a thorough review of the APC government of Muhammadu Buhari.

Let's begin by matching some of his promises with his actions/output

HIS PROMISES
1) To continually acknowledge and consciously equality and equity in all government businesses and activities(in his own words).

2) Implement the National Gender Policy including 35% of appointive positions for women

3) To declare his asset and liabilities, and encourage his appointees to do same as a 'precondition' for appointment.

4) To end Boko haram in two months (made in his Jan 21 campaign in Kano).

5) Provision of one meal per day to all public primary school pupils

6) Payment of N5000 monthly stipends to the unemployed, elderly and disabled

7) To return the missing Chibok school girls.

cool To appoint young people with requisite qualification into key political offices to begin the incubation and mentoring for a successor political generation.

9) To Commit himself and his administration to the phased implementation of the United Nations Environment Program’s(UNEP) recommendations on Ogoniland.

10) His other promises are outlined in HIS 100 DAYS COVENANT document(www.aitonline.tv/post-my_100_days_covenant_with_nigerians_____muhammadu_buhari).

As beautiful as the above promises appear, not even one was fulfilled. Instead of recognizing Nigeria's ethno-religious diversity in his appointment, Buhari proposed, midwifed and implemented the 'Principle of 95% and 5%'. He is yet to appoint a single person from the South East in his 29 frontline administrative appointments, but he appointed 13 from his North West(43%) and 6 from North East(20%). He promised 35% appointment slot for women but he has only appointed ONE woman out of the 35 principal appointments made so far. He promised the people of the North East that he'll end Boko Haram in two months but it's over 3 months and the insurgents are still a menace. He isn't even talking about the missing chibok school girls despite his promise to re-unite them with their family. He failed to provide the one meal per day to public primary school pupils, and the N5000 monthly stipends to the unemployed, elderly and disabled. The most painful part is that he became a chronic liar by denying ever making these promises despite the availability of facts and records. Instead of appointing young people, Buhari has been bringing back old people from retirement into the Civil service. One month into his rhetorical pledge of implementing the UNEP report on Ogoni, no single action has been taken. This is the same subject that APC did a 3 weeks propaganda on. The people of Ogoni are still biting their fingers till date.

Nigerians have been yearning to see the assets and liabilities of Buhari, instead of fulfilling his pledge, his spokesman Shehu Garba published a disjointed document that is illogical and embarrassing to sane minds. He's yet to declare his assets.

DSS MADNESS:
When Alhaji Daura, a kinsman of Buhari was brought back from retirement announced as the acting DG DSS, some of us cried foul because the same Daura fully participated in APC political activities. About 100 days in the saddle as DSS boss, Daura led DSS have conducted themselves in the most shameless and unpatriotic manner. They occupied the apartment of ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki on Salah eve, holding the retired colonel hostage for more than 24 hours. They claimed that they have 'credible' intelligence linking Sambo Dasuki to plot to treason, but their so-called incriminating evidence weren't even enough to topple a local motor park chairman. One had expected them to charge Sambo Dasuki for treason (in line with their 'credible intelligence'), but they could only institute a one count charge on 'illegal' possession of firearms against Dasuki in order to save face. Aside Sambo, the DSS has unsurped the powers of the election tribunals in Rivers and Akwa Ibom state. They were reported at different times to have arressted the INEC RECs in both states on allegation of electoral malpractices when both cases are running in their various election tribunals. Of recent, they invaded the Government house of Akwa ibom state purportedly to intimidate Governor Udom Emmanuel and PDP chieftains. The DSS boss also fired senior officials of the agencies because the President doesn't like their faces- as he sees them as imaginary political enemies.

REFINERIES
Before Buhari came on board, the NNPC GMD mentioned that the refineries will work optimally in early 2016 at the completion of the turn around maintainance (TAM) that was instituted under GEJ. The Buhari government came and told us that the four refineries will optimally perform at the end of June 2015 without any additional input. They even promised 20million litres of fuel daily. We are in September already and nothing has happened.

ECONOMY:
At present, our economy is in a state of comatose. 100 days into Buhari administration there is yet to be any economic policy or marshal plan. We are yet to get finance minister and a proper economic team.

POWER SECTOR:
In the last 100 Days, a section of Nigeria have been enjoying improved power supply. This is due to the robust power reform carried out by exPresident Jonathan. All that is needed is regular gas supply to plant owners. In late 2014 under GEJ, the CBN/Bankers Committee and the plant owners signed a memorandum of understanding that will see that funds are released to plant owners in form of loan for purchase of gas. I commend the Bankers and CBN for releasing some funds. However, Buhari is yet to initiate or implement any new policy or program on power that would have consolidated on GEJ's effort. At present Nigeria is still running on GEJ's preset mode as long as power is concerned.

ANTI-CORRUPTION:
Granted that the President is a self-titled anti-corruption czar but he is yet to prove it in governance. Even before May 29, the President popular phrase is 'I will probe'. Since the last 100 days, we keep hearing the same 'I will probe'. He is yet to initiate/implement any policy that will strengthen the EFCC and ICPC. Couldn't even show transparency by declaring details of his worth and liabilities. Nigerians are still waiting for his imaginary $150 billion that he claimed the US government want to repatriate. He is yet to even recover N1 from local politicians here in Nigeria. It is 100 days already.

FIRST LADY's OFFICE
Contrary to the President's pledge to phase-out the unconstitutional office of the First Lady, the President renamed the office as 'Office of the Wife of the President', and secretly appoint aides to function with the office. To justify the appointment, the Presidential spokesman recently said that 'the President is yet to assign role to Aisha Buhari'. When did Aisha Buhari become an officer of the government?

GOVERNMENT AND BODY LANGUAGE:
100 days into his administration, the president is yet to form a cabinet. Instead, he has been running Nigeria with the tenet of 'body language'- Though his body language is yet to fix our economy and attend to national issues. Through his body language, he forgot ever making promise during the electioneering period.

MONGUNO's APPOINTMENT
The President also brought Gen Monguno that performed very poorly as the head of Nigeria Intelligence Agency to function as the National Security Adviser, this is contrary to his pledge to only appoint people with impeccable character and antecedent.

Though I am not surprised at the epic failure of Buhari since the last 100 days because he never showed zeal or leadership since his first day in office.

May God In His Infinite Mercy Bless Us All
Politics › PDP Wins 2 NASS Election Petition In Nassarawa by erunz(op): 5:35pm On Sep 04, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday won two National Assembly election petitions in Nasarawa State
The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Lafia upheld the election of Sen. Philip Gyunka (PDP-Nasarawa North) and Reps David Umbugadu of Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa-Eggon federal constituency.
The tribunal Chairman, Justice Peter Obiora, in his judgment, dismissed both petitions for lack of merit.
Obiora upheld their elections as announced by INEC and awarded them cost of N50, 000 each.
On Umbugadu’s case, Obiora said the petitioner, Mrs Mary Enwongulu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to prove allegations of over voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
“The tribunal holds that the petitioner failed to establish her claims. We declare that this petition lacks merit and is hereby dismissed.
“Consequently, we reaffirm the return of Mr David Umbugadu of the PDP as the duly elected member into the Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa federal constituency,’’ Obiora said.

Samuel Okutekpa (SAN), Counsel to the respondent, hailed the judgment, saying it was a true reflection of the wishes of the electorate.
However, Counsel to the petitioner, Dr Mubarak Adekilekun, said he would consult with his client on whether or not to appeal against the judgment.
Similarly, Obiora dismissed the consolidated petition brought against Gyunka by Mr Sam Allu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Idris Yahuza of the APC.
Obiora said Allu failed to prove that election was not conducted at Lambuga and Arikya polling units in Nasarawa-Eggon as claimed.
He, therefore, corroborated the position of INEC that election for the contentious polling unit was nullified for over voting.
He said Yahuza of the APC could not prove allegation of malpractice during the election.
He, therefore, dismissed all the petitions for lack of merit.
Gyunka told newsmen after the judgment that he was grateful to God and promised not to relent in fighting for the good of the people.

Politics › Buhari’s 1,461 Days: What Will Garba Shehu Do? -- By Abimbola Adelakun by erunz(op): 10:30am On Sep 04, 2015
Spin doctors, the ones renowned for their skills in advancing government propaganda know the wisdom of subtlety and skilful persuasion instead of unhandily and shiftily passing off barefaced lies as truth. Proselytising – even for a government with mounds of goodwill like that of President Muhammadu Buhari – requires some expertise that the administration needs to urgently learn.

The newspeak by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to Buhari, Garba Shehu, heralding 100 days of the administration is beyond woeful. It is full of contradictions, needless self-salutations and puerile lies. Coming from a government that is 97 days old today, one wonders what dramatic flourish they will not envision for their 365 and 1461 days.

Shehu’s piece gives the impression that his boss does not have a blueprint of what to do with victory and they are currently winging out governance. After spending years rhapsodising what they – the opposition – will do differently if they snatch power from the Peoples Democratic Party, they are fast becoming what they criticised. Their unending obsession with the PDP, the unrestrained and now boring commentary on PDP’s well-known faults, and the constant appeal for patience now seems like a riveting distraction; to keep the public busy so they will not have to own up for their current lack of ideas and ideological offerings.

The SSA can disown ‘One hundred things Buhari will do in 100 days’ and ‘My covenant with Nigerians’ but he cannot deny that the contents of those documents were extrapolated from APC’s manifesto put out during electioneering. The wordings might not be exactly the same but the scale of promises was just as ambitious, declarative and far reaching. If we distance Buhari from his campaign promises, he at least cannot deny the promises stated in thisisbuhari.com, a document circulated in December 2014.

As the ‘ghostwriter’ of ‘My covenant with Nigerians’ noted, the document is an abridged version of the party manifesto. If ‘My covenant with Nigerians’ was not Buhari’s thoughts as is being intoned presently, why were there no debunks before now? Why wait until your 100 days report card is due? Whether Buhari’s media team authorised the documents or not matters less as to whether they are on track of fulfilling the promises they made. Shehu says he can bet his last kobo that Buhari neither saw nor authorised these documents. Sophistry has a new name and it is resident in Aso Rock.

The question is, the one he saw and authorised – the party manifesto – how far has he laid the groundwork for its realisation? How far has Buhari gone with the promise to, for instance, “initiate action to amend the Nigerian constitution with a view to devolving powers, duties, and responsibilities to states in order to entrench true federalism and the federal spirit” as stated? He does not seem to be talking of restructuring the nation to make administration less unwieldy anymore, what happened? What of the promises he made in the sectors of education, infrastructure, security, economy and yes, foreign policy? How is he driving the reforms he stated in his manifesto? By his body language or through a clear and defined vision? Does Shehu realise that after the 100 days assessment, we would soon be assessing Buhari’s one year in office? His promises remain the yardstick by which we shall measure his effectiveness.

Furthermore, Shehu should stop insulting us by telling us ‘Buhari has given the job his best shot and the whole country is saying that we never had it so good.’ Such hyberbolic statements are disrespectful to both Nigerians who voted Buhari and those who voted against him for good reasons. Where was the poll carried out where Nigerians spoke in unison and agreed that their lives are perfect now since Buhari became President? If what has been seen so far is Buhari’s best, then Nigeria is in for a long and difficult ride. And no, Buhari’s endorsement by both the US President, Barack Obama, and UN President, Ban Ki-Moon, count for nothing. Those men are politicians who say what they are supposed to say even when it is either irrelevant or banal. Obama once praised former President Goodluck Jonathan such that the man questioned – in his infamous spiel, “I am not a General, Goliath, Pharaoh or a King” why Nigerians refused to see any good in him despite those high profile commendations.

Buhari was sold to us as the man with a magic wand capable of solving Nigeria’s recurrent corruption problems. By the time I got to the part of the document that states, ‘President Buhari is being praised at home and abroad for his ongoing fight against corruption….’ I had to wonder what the ‘‘ongoing fight against corruption’’ was all about and where it was taking place. What we have had so far is propaganda and lots of noise about who and who stole what.

There is practically no ruler in Nigeria – military or democratic – that has not paid the obligatory lip service to fighting corruption. The collapse of the First Republic via the coup in 1966 happened partly because some soldiers were disgusted by the depth of the corruption in government.

There is no point asking Shehu how the documents being denied presently came into existence; we were alive when the Third Term Agenda was blamed on the printer’s devil. What Shehu owes us now is to explain what Mr. President plans to do to tackle corruption beyond the simplistic and unrealistic mantra borrowed from Narendra Modi, ‘I won’t steal and I’ll not allow others to do it!’

How does the President monitor and prevent people from stealing in a country as large and as complicated as Nigeria? If an anti-corruption agenda can work simply by whom the President permits to steal, a President like Olusegun Obasanjo would have solved the problem long ago! That was one man who hounded those who stole without permission.

Shehu, in that same press release says that ‘Buhari will turn out to be a leader in the tradition of Lee Kuan-Yu and India’s current reform-minded Prime Minister Modi… He may however differ with (sic) them by not micro-managing things.’ A President whose anti-corruption plans is about who is allowed to steal is already a micro-manager, sorry.

Shehu cannot convince us this government is serious about fighting corruption until we see their action plan. How do they plan to take the anti-corruption agenda to wards and local government levels? Is their strategy bottom-up or top-down approach?

My advice to Shehu is to take a deep breath and stop talking for a while so they can put their house in order. This administration has talked so much like a tape on repeat. The energy deployed on talking could be useful for other ventures. Nigeria is not a stranger to empty rhetoric. This government talks too much for people who are supposed to be rebuilding a vandalised country. That emphasis on talks without requisite action makes them look unserious. The APC should spend some time poring over their manifesto and reminding themselves of their promises to Nigerians. That, hopefully, might put a spring in their steps

APC CAN LIE, FIRST THEY TOLD US TO WAIT FOR CCB, BUT NOW THEY THEY RUSH TO DECLARE THE ASSETS THEMSELVES WITHOUT ANY VALUE. JUST TO SAVE THEMSELVES THE SHAME OF THE WASTED 100 DAYS, THEY ARE GIVING US THIS TRASH.
Politics › My Thoughts On Buhari's "Asset Declaration" BY Irene Nwaukwa by erunz(op): 9:18am On Sep 04, 2015
NIGERIA!!!
So lets do a little Asset Declaration Best Practice 101, shall we?

In 2007, The Late Umaru Musa Yar'adua became the first president to PUBLICLY declare his assets. He, alongside his VP, GEJ declared their assets and it contained the following key elements missing from the sham spread by Garba Shehu in an attempt to hoodwink the gullible.
Also, former governor Kayode Fayemi followed same principles in 2010. Both practices were well accepted as our standard.
Now, I will let you compare and contrast with the garbage from Garba Shehu.

1. The main aims of asset declarations may including the following:

● to increase transparency and the trust of citizens in public administration, by disclosing information about assets of politicians and civil servants that shows they have nothing to hide;
● to help heads of public institutions prevent conflicts of interest among their employees and to resolve such situations when they arise, in order to promote integrity within their institutions;
● to monitor wealth variations of individual politicians and civil servants, in order to dissuade them from misconduct and protect them from false accusations, and to help clarify the full scope of illicit enrichment or other illegal activity by providing additional evidence.

2. A basic component of an asset declaration is the presence of VALUE! N30M cash is not his entire worth! Buhari has 5 houses is NOT asset declaration! How much are his 5 houses, economical trees, cows and the rest worth? How much are Osinbajo's shareholdings and cars and houses worth? Both Yar'adua and Fayemi declared thier TOTAL WORTH , and in details how much everything they owned was worth and how those funds were sourced.

3. An asset declaration also contains LIABILITIES!. How much is he owing? Yar'adua declared a total of about N88M as liabilites. What are Buhari's liabilities?

4. Both Yar'adua & Fayemi DECLARED THE ASSETS OF THIER SPOUSES!!! This is very important because we know that spouses are usually implicated in corruption cases and money laundering. Also, it will enable us to easily detect and prevent conflict of interest issues. Who knows how much Aisha and Mrs Osinbajo are worth? What companies they own and the like? If Buhari wants to show real transparency and not hoodwink us, he should do the right thing!.

5. Yar'adua and Fayemi showed proof! They released the PHOTOCOPIES OF THE FORM submitted to the CCB. That's transparency!

In conclusion, I think it is an insult to our sensibilties that Garba Shehu would release such a statement knowing fully well that Buhari and associaties have not fulfilled thier promise to Nigerians. This would be the second time he's attempting to deceive us like so. First was when he announced that Buhari had kept his promise to Nigerians when the man had only submitted a form . Coming at a time when there's been so much falsehood and denials coming from the presidency, this does leave a bad taste in my mouth. It also shows a disregard for the good people of Nigeria to whom these politicians OWE service!

Nigeria! THIS IS NOT AN ASSET DECLARATION. Garba Shehu has given us a foretaste of what to expect when assets are declared and we would treat it as such. When they release the actual assets we would know.
Mr President, your 100days is here already. Whether you deny it or not, I have made my assesement, and so have many other Nigerians. Trust is like a glass, treat it carefully.
