Story By Francis Okeke The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) Mr. Steve Orosanye yesterday directed that all television sets in public offices be withdrawn on or before friday, August 14th, 2009. However, offices of ministers, permanaent secretaries, directors-general, media offices, waiting areas and reception halls have been excluded from the directive. The Head of Service is said to have observed that television viewing during official hours has created diversion of attention and contributed to lowering productivity in the Civil service. Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Tope Ajakaiye said in a statement. In a circular issued to all Federal Government ministries, extra-ministerial departments and agencies, the HCSF also directed that subscriptions to cable television networks be discontinued. The Head of Service further stated that the "retrieved television sets should be boarded in line with the provision of Public Service Financial Regulations" So there it is, No more African Magic for the civil servants. Lofty idea if you ask me 'cept that now, there will be lesser personnel at work as television watching is almost the past time of most civil servants! However, methink the the HOS need to address wide ranging issues in the civil service such as defined responsibilities for all the officers, erase blurred line of reporting as witnessed in most extra-ministerial departments, absenteeism and late coming and so much more. |

aysometin:Don't wish D'banj ill luck ooo I am sure the organisers will somehow wriggle out of this, but it will cost them "brain" and plenty of it too. I think along this line: Rita will lose out to either Shona or Bolanle whose personalities sticks to the script but will be heavily compensated like the last girl standing technique of the Ultimate search show. I wish the PR machine of the organisers is working extra hard now. It's time to turn the Rita deficit to some brand gain. You know, short term: Let D'banj identify with the lady at the end of the show, he should deliver some sound bite about her being a strong, bold and determined lady.Should not avoid her or even her "grammar",As a matter of fact, for closing effect, she should be allowed to talk, encourage her to interact on camera, probably bring in Funke Akindele to tease her(That will be a marketing coup!). It will be worth its while. That will be the entertainment value per excellence of the show. She should be used as the traffic driver to the programme. Then long term strategy should include getting her into some good school even outside the country and yes, ensure she is in one of D'banj's forthcoming videos. That way,the RFC will definitely be pacified, because whether the D'banj and the organizing crew likes it or not, Rita is now the FACE of Koko Mansion, On a lighter note, the rush for the next edition's form will be from unusual quarters, lol |
maedan:Funny, about the hiding her in the cupboard!lol But then, there is an acceptable standard in conducting this kind of shows globally or else it will amount to the organisers shooting themselves in the foot, Remember Big Brother Africa has an audit firm that audit votes. While i am not sure this particular show has the same, i know that the organisers would have put in place an audit mechanism of some sort to prevent double standardand if the rules are followed, then Rita might emerge winner for the following reasons, 1. Sentiment, Most of the viewing masses tend to see this as an avenue to bring up someone from a lowly background. Many tend to identify with the lady as not many people were born with silver spoon. 2. Somehow, some sees this as an avenue to "punish" D'banj for his "perceived" indiscretion in floating the show in the first place. Remember the ruckus that has trailed the show since its inception. 3 Blind Voters, Now,so many might not have been watching this show, but now that is about to end, certain people might just vote based on hearsays and if hearsay will help anyone, Rita seems poised to take this one! So watch out for the Real Life Jenifa, Really, Funke Akindele is a prophetess, lol |
A female colleague of mine showed me a youtube clip of this young lady participant during a presentation task on the ongoing koko mansion show and couldn't help but laugh real hard. Apparently, the organisers of the show must have included the lady to spice up the show ala Ali Baba style hoping the viewers in time will vote her out for a more "befitting" kokolette for D'banj. Alas, feelers from viewers both from the diaspora and even within the country seems to be in favour of Rita. As a matter of fact, the organisers are being accused of introducing certain intellectual tasks so as to exploit the lady's educational weakness! A response on the show's website even went as far as accusing the organisers of the show of changing the main theme of the show from searching for "AN IDEAL AFRICAN WOMAN" to searching for "AN IDEAL AFRICAN AMBASSADOR" with thier introduction of certain tasks. This, it was alleged was aimed at edging the young lady out of the top spot of the show! http://www.kokomansion.tv/shownews.php?id=32 Now, the winner emerges on August 9th and the organisers have defined their ideal African Woman thus : 1. She's attractive 2. She's intelligent 3. She's eloquent 4. She's got self-esteem 5. She's confident 6. She's neat 7. She's a homemaker 8. She's industrious and business savvy 9. Her words are graceful 10. And She's a virtuous woman. http://www.kokomansion.tv/shownews.php?id=3 Of course, the caveat "It's time to discard sentiments and excuses" was added for effect. The questions are, Will D'banj and the organisers of this show crown Rita the Ultimate Kokolette if she has the highest vote? If Rita eventually wins this, will she be a good ambassador of the lady folks in the eyes of the world? How will she grant interviews, hold press conferences, hold meaningful discussions without sending the audience reeling with laughter like "Jenifa"? And if she loses, will there not be some accusation of conspiracy theory on the part of the organisers? After this show, how much will Rita affect the D'banj brand? |
bilqiss:Ha, tear whose head off, the guy was strategic. His uniform was enough to dispel any of such unholy thought from any NL stinger! No, NL is not losing its sting, it has only started looking Uche's face! |
There goes an average Nigerian office holder again! Now, we need not look further why Nigeria may never have a free and fair election. Look at it this way, if a politician knows that the IG who is supposed to be an unbiased umpire during the election is neck deep in some debts and offered to pay him a bigger largess, to look elsewhere when rigging is ongoing, one can bet the IG will quickly jump at the extra cash! Afterall, he has no scrupples engaging in business in the first place and in fact forging signature to keep the business going!Hence will only see this as a lifeline! God Help Naija! |
Spot on, Soladies and gentlemen, let's go get Married, All of Us!!! |
Interesting, Where is Brashy? I can't wait to hear his take on this!!! |
Personally, i don't think 5 Mill per toilet, and i mean a standard toilet is not really inflated. My take is that public toilet apparently is the last thing the good people of Oyo State need now! Most of the roads in that state is an eye sore. Education is being left to rot, security of lives of the populace is still a big challenge. Who will forget in a hurry how armed robbers practically sacked banks in the metropolis! If the governor need to provide job for the boys, it will be worth the while if he could look at the areas that will direct impact the lives of the populace as mentioned above "like Fashola" |
Wao, the good time is finally here. Not only did a policewoman could blog successfully, she also could proudly state that she is a policewoman and a beautiful one at that in a public forum, Sure, revolution Cometh! Seriously, whenever i hear NAIJA police, the image that crosses my mind is those rank and file that dots the highway collecting tolls. So poster, i am sure you must be one of the unusual Nigerian cop, a graduate with a desk and internet facility even in far away Kebbi. So yes, because you are a graduate, to a considerable extent, you 'll be a lot refined. I also sees someone well brought up who probably has a police officer as a father or mother or uncle, or one of those professional communicators, or IT guys who only joined the police as a means of last resort., well remotely, maybe, you 've read too many investigative novels and fell in love with the crack investigators and today you fancy yourself as one by joining the police. Then, YOU wlll make a trustworthy housewife, fiancee or girlfriend. Mind you, being a trustworthy housewife, fiance or girlfriend has nothing to do with being a policewoman. it has to so with your upbringing, your values, your beliefs and all other virtues. Even a Customs woman, Immigration Woman, PHCN woman with the right values of life will make a trustworthy housewife, kaaji? |
Qualifications: HND.Bsc in Mass Communication, Sociology e.t.c Trainings in Communications is really essential. Membership of any proffessional body in the PR circle should be an added advantage! The succesful candidate should be ready to "hit the road" as well as be ready to travel at the drop of a hat! I am Done, Am i hired? |
Lucrative? A job is as lucrative as the financial strength of the organization really. However, whoever is being offered such a position should not earn a paltry sum as he/she will need to look presentable, Don't forget i mentioned the person as being the ambassador of the organization. An official car is a must please! The pay? Anything above N150k per month is okay, plus the usual benefits u know (inconveniences allowance e.t.c) Really, its part of the corporate identity of the organization. The advantages are numerous, particularly for someone who is not a desk person( i raise my hand),one also get to do a whole lot of spontaneous and impromptu presentation about the company, the locality, the state and the country at large. Hence a protocol manager must be well informed and widely read! Another advantage is that one has the opportunity of meeting so many people and forging eternal relationships both for oneself and for the organisation. The disadvantages like i mentioned earlier is that the job has no "startend" period. One could be summoned at anytime and where one has to wait for a very early flight or a vet late flight, one might need to sleep right in the office, at the airport or somewhere close, and still appear fresh upon meeting the expected personnel(here expatriates or top management really) Really, it's fun |
This position i believe basically entails planning and organizing the logistics of movement and comfort of personnel and associated stakeholders (i.e Expatriates, top management staff, government functionaries) in an organization both within and outside the country. In my former organization (Blue Chip FMCG), the position is an integral part of the Corporate Affairs Unit, and the Protocol Officer performs amongst many other functions: 1. Liaising with the various embassies on behalf of the organization. He is actually the "face" of the company with all the embassies. His signature is known and he is the first port of call whenever the embassies wants to get in touch with the organization. 2. Helping in the purchase of Air Tickets for staff. 3. Helping in the booking of hotels for personnel on official duties and also expatriates both within and outside the country. 4. Assisting in easing the expatriates and management staff's traveling worries at the Airport. (He actually welcomes them to the country, practically see to their settling in comfortably and also sees to their safe departure) 5. Assisting in procuring Passports and other travel documents for personnel and associated stakeholders. 6. Ensuring that the corporate organisation maintains a visible presence at the various airports via both above and below the line adverts. 7. Establishing an enduring relationship with travelling agencies, Airlines, NDLEA, Immigration officers at the Airport and Seaport, Customs. and all other duty assigned. I must quickly state that the job requires someone who is quite agile, quick on the uptake, level headed, a fine communicator, of pleasant disposition and quite healthy. I think it's man's job cause of the need to jump on the road at any time of the day (And that is not occasional!), but a single strong lady too could take a shot! The main beats of the protocol officer is basically the Airport ( Personnel) and the Seaport (For cargoes) sometimes! |

Wao, this is thrilling, Left my office in Ikeja, Lagos by 11 pm to see her in Ibadan cause i was not able to catch up with her at the airport during the yuletide and i can' wait to see her the next day. Went with one of my friends cause i was scared but the "pull" was just too much. Got to her house so late, the elder brother did not even allow us take the drink and food she offered us! He told us it's already late, we should take our leave now! We were practically "bounced' out of the house around 12 midnight inspite of her pleading. Got to the park with my friend and while waiting for any means of transportation, got chased and robbed by some unruly characters like that. And today the lovely lady is married, to another man!, Just imagine if i was killed that night. It was Dangerous, it was fun! |
Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu, has said that results of the 2011 general elections would be released without delay, as Nigerians will know the result electronically as it is released, due to the newly introduced Electronic Voting System. Iwu said while the 2007 general elections could not be said to be bad, the country however, has to strive to improve its electioneering processes in 2011. This is as Action Congres (AC), said yesterday, that "Iwu remains the single biggest impediment to organisation of free and fair elections in the country in 2011." In a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, yesterday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the recent statement by Iwu, that inadequate personnel could constitute a problem to the organisation of the 2011 elections, is a ploy to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians into thinking all is well with INEC and its leadership. Iwu, who was in Kaduna State for the first forum on e-voting, put together by INEC, while stating that his agency would not be intimidated by people who do not wish the country well, added that “states would be able to have their aggregate and judge for themselves the results of election in their respective polling booths, even before we release the results, as INEC is fully computerised to carry out the election using e-voting system, which will make our work easier and better,’’ he said. Iwu had before the meeting, visited Governor Namadi Sambo, where he said that the computer can not change the manner of elections in Nigeria where people refuse to accept defeat when they lose. He said, "but let me quickly admit that computer would not provide any solution to such things, as when people have disease of the mind, when people refuse to accept defeat even when they lose elections. Computer will not be able to erase mountains of cynicism when fellow country men and women have started doubting their own country, computers will not do that. "Electronic voting will also not be an answer to people who have occupied their mindset that elections are only free and fair either when they win elections or when they do not contest, that is the only time it will be free and fair, but when they win, the elections now becomes free and fair," he said. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=148168 So here, the proffessor has spoken again! With the efficiency of PHCN in the country, how feasible will electronic compilation of votes be? |
The Guardian Suspected MASSOB members attack Obi From Uzoma Nzeagwu, Awka A MOST bizarre breach of security and decorum was recorded at the weekend in Ngwo, Enugu State where suspected members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) hounded Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, one of whom successfully gave the governor a knock on the head. The daring assault occurred at the residence of the late former governor of old Anambra State, Chief C. C. Onoh, where the Ibo crme-de-la- crme gathered to pay their last respects to the departed elder statesman. However, a possible bloodbath was averted by Obi who swiftly called his security details to order as the latter made to cut down the MASSOB mob in a hail of bullets. Obi, alongside other South-East governors, had already paid his last respect to Onoh on Thursday, July, 2 but on the invitation of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the governor accompanied the ex-Biafran warlord on a condolence visit to the Onoh Family, who are his in-laws. Chief Onoh was the father of Ojukwu's wife, Bianca. According to the Special Assistant to the governor on Media And Publicity, Valentine Obienyem, trouble started when MASSOB members allegedly led by their leader, Raphael Uwazurike, sited Obi coming. They reportedly started shouting: "We must kill you and your family; we must send you back to the UK." Obienyem said at the scene, the governor sat at a different area from Mr. Emeka Etiaba and Uwazurike. He said Odumegwu-Ojukwu later invited Obi to join him where he was seated. As the governor moved to oblige Odumegwu-Ojukwu, some MASSOB members accosted him, saying he had refused to identify with them and hence was not a Biafran. "It came to a climax when one of them knocked the governor on the head. The security men attached to the governor were already ready to shoot but Obi calmed them down," Obienyem noted. A visibly angry Odumegwu-Ojukwu ordered the MASSOB out of the gathering and brought the situation under control. Speaking with reporters on the incident, 'Major' Anayo Chukwunonso, who claimed to be a leader of the MASSOB militia, said the organisation was unhappy with Governor Obi for allegedly stopping the monthly payment made to them by previous governments in the state. However, he added that since Obi had refused to work with MASSOB, "others who are sympathetic to our cause are enjoying our services." He queried why Obi would not pay MASSOB militia when his colleagues allegedly still do. Chukwunonso also accused Obi of giving orders to the police to kill some Biafrans under the guise of restoring sanity to the state. On assuming office, Obi outlawed all militia groups in the state, including the MASSOB and Bakassi Boys, among others. However, rumours have it that these banned associations are currently regrouping in Anambra State, preparatory to the 2010 governorship election. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/article03//indexn2_html?pdate=070709&ptitle=Suspected%20MASSOB%20members%20attack%20Obi Now this is a serious breach of security. Methink the time is here to rein in all this ethnic militia, particularly this lawless MASSOB! First it was launching passport and now this! Isn't it instructive to note that even the Biafra general was at this gathering and he even invited the governor to sit with him. So why are they crying more than the bereaved? And such a cheeky statement by the MASSOB guys too that others now have good use for them if the governor does not want to use them. Use them for what? as what? Political thugs? The statement only underscores one fact, All these ethnic militias are only interested in their purses and nothing more! Thank God for a gentleman in Peter Obi, that guy that gave the knock would have viven the final knock of his life! |
@ Sagamite. If you read my initial post, you will discover i copied an article from Sunday Punch''s "Hard Copy". I even gave the reporters name! I explained that one need a card to access PUNCH on the web! hence my inability to give the link. What Moneygurl (mercifully though) did was to give a "related" article and NOT the one i quoted. The "crappy" slant in your response wouldn't have been necessary if you have taken your time to read the article and my subsequent addendum. Thanks. |
@ Kobojunkie The report was copied from the Sunday Punch 5th July, 2009. It is on Page 7, written by Jide Babalola. You know one need some card to read Punch on the web now. I 'll however scour the web to find if any other Nigerian Newspaper have the same report. Thanks! |

Report credited to Sunday Punch has revealed that the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori's Notore Chemical Industries is set to emerge one of the beneficiaries of the Federal Government's N200 billion agricultural interventionist scheme. According to the report, Notore has been "strategically" positioned to supply N40 billion worth of fertilizer under the Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme established jointly b the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water resources. The assurance of Ibori's Company in the FG's scheme came as many firms hoping to also participate in the supply of fertilizers to the scheme complain of thier inability to meet the stringent conditions allegedly attached. This move however gave rise to the speculations that Notore was being positioned to reap bountifully from the scheme as a way for Yar' Adua to compensate the former governor for allegedly bankrolling his campaign in the 2007 election. Ibori was largely believed to have substantially supported the president's bid two years ago, a suspicion that may believe was behind the goodwill being enjoyed by him in the Yar'Adua's administration. M iany have equally accused the authorities of soft dealing with Ibori in his ongoing trial by the EFCC. The media aide to the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Olu Lipede however denied the allegation that the former governor was being unduly favoured and that the former governor has a right like every other Nigerian to win government contract. So there it is, flowing within the same circle as usual! Former governor winning a multimillion naira mega deal. The same governor allegedly fingered for being very corrupt! I personally disagree with the position of the media aide though. I am sure, the former governor is not just "like every other Nigerian" Nope, he is a "Very Special Nigerian" by his virtue of his former position. And for a man whose tenure was hailed as one of the most corrupt in Nigeria, handling him another FG cash cow simply underscores one fact, This country is not in a hurry to get out of the wood!. |
The finalists finally unveiled. Ranging from the ages of 19 to 27, these ladies are quite beautiful and rearing to go! Reports monitored on the newspapers also stated that HITV will be dedicating a channel covering the show as it unveils while D'banj and his friends are ready to take the whole world on a roller coaster of an entertainment! The participants have all spoken, and the reasons for participating ranges from the mundane-the desire to be known, to the self-important-"i want to bare my intelligence". The participants are now familiarizing themselves with the mansion. However, the great debate continues on the pages of newspapers as to the morality of the show. An example is this opinion on Guardian http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/editorial_opinion/article03//indexn2_html?pdate=030709&ptitle=Kokomansion:%20What%20does%20it%20stand%20for? The show is on, no doubt about that, but the question is given another life, will D'banj allow his own sister or daughter be part of a show of this nature? What does this show portend for today's woman? And after the winners finally emerge, what's next? after the Chris Aire diamond, the Millions, the SUV, the promised video shoot, the escort, what's next? Whats the mentality of Today's Woman? |
I woke up this morning to a discussion on Channels Television's " Sunrise Daily" about the position and opinion of the Senate President, Senator David Mark, that the current crop of PDP senators should be given automatic tickets on the party's platform, come 2011. He was reported to have argued that the current PDP senators are more experienced and that a whole lot of investment has gone into training them both locally and internationally. Now, for a government that cites the rule of law at the drop of a hat, does automatic ticket count for a genuine democratic process and application? Personally, i think there should NOT be any automatic ticket. There should be a level playing field for every aspirant. If the incumbent senators are "super" sure of their performances and contributions not only in the hallowed chambers, but also at their various senatorial district, then they should be confident enough to subject themselves to the party's primary. Somehow, i think the PDP senators, knowing themselves that their party's internal democratic process is suspect do not want to go through the rigours of another primary. Calling for automatic ticket is simply an indictment on the party's leadership! The question is, in a genuine and sincere democratic setting, is there a place for Automatic Ticket for any politician? PDP or AC, ANPP or APGA? |
I had my first encounter with a policeman in my primary school!I was in primary three then in Lagos and we we were preparing for the usual morning prayers popularly referred to as "Assembly" when i sighted a policeman just passing by in all his glory. I must confess he looked quite impressive then, so much that i was fascinated. He caught my eyes and i caught his and yours' sincerely in all his glorious naughtiness executed an "attenshun" military style with a well oiled salute. He did not find it funny. No, he did not smile. Rather, he turned back, grabbed me by my ears and simply led me to the headmasters office . My offense was simple, I disrespected a "force man" My trial was swift and one sided, i was pronounced guilty without an option of fine or defence, . My sentence was brutal, 6 strokes of the cane to knock respect back into my small civillian head!. Since then i 've always thread warily and softly around naija policeman. However the first time i got into the UK and got lost, it was a policeman i went to, who checked his map and directed me home. We chatted endlessly and he was quite humane. Please note that i have met fantastic Naija policeman and women after that particular incident though and have heard about some rather cruel policemen in the western world! Do Share Your First Ever Encounter With The Nigerian Police! Pleasant or Unpleasant Experience? Thanks! |

@ Poster Now tell me, are you in the movie industry? If you are, then i think you are looking in the wrong place for your movie props! You should have also added the word " Tamed" live lions. Such tamed animals are not gotten ASAP as demanded, even if you call Eddie Murphy for his contact for the ones he used in "Coming To America" (hope that's correct). If you are also looking at some marketing stunts like the First Bank elephant gimmick, then like i said it can't be ASAP too. Think about the logistics, transportation, feeding, Vet doctors, guide and all that comes with high profile stunts. (I remember i once toyed with the idea of getting a live Zebra for the "Zebra Crossing Initiative" for Tom Tom. Okay, i agree, those ones are not dangerous animals but by no means less, they are rare animals. What you should do is look at different options to go around using the animals, but if it has become a "must" then search online, talk too zoo keepers around the world, and charmers too, you will get all the animals you want for the right price. Lets now say your idea of suicide is being eaten alive by lions. I 'd rather advise you review that position. There are better ways to belling a cat! Google Japanese Suicide techniques. You will see less painful, but equally effective dying mode! Or You are fishing for ATTENTION ON THIS BOARD? i think you got it! I will call you though, i think you are fine marketer! |
The truth be told, Nigeria's politician always have believed in diabolic association. It is an open secret that one might never be able to attain certain position both politically and economically in the country without being affiliated to some sinister groups. As a matter of fact, the clash of these different groups sometimes are only cloaked in so called principled issues when the real reasons has to do with supremacy war! Such wars are fought on the pages of newspapers and sometimes in the spirit realm. Where that seems to fail, they resort to physical destruction. One only need to look a bit closely to see all these paraphernalia with these politicians, particularly those from the western part of the country. The manner of dressing with certain beads, the way they greet themselves in public e.t.c The role of the church in all of these is just to be discussed another day. Most of the so called men's association in some of these churches have gradually become some "coven". The same Ogun State had a governor before who made no pretense of his belief. Whenever they tell you they are traditionalist, read in between the lines. It goes way beyond that. What do we do? Me think we their children should really search our soul early. It is hypocritical for us all to be wallowing in abject wealth without asking questions! We all know when our parents are doing the wrong things to bring us luxury. We should just ask questions, let's start small first, we will prick their conscience a bit you know. That lawmaker is only living in a fool's paradise. His dad's been feeding him the proceed of war, He is now running away from the gore of battle. He surely will fail. If he had not been particularly relishing all that his dad has been bringing home for his enjoyment, maybe he wouldn't be in this mess now. Fellow Youth, Lets Say We cant Arise Collectively Now, Lets Arise Individually In Our Families, Our Homes, Our Offices, Our Churches, Mosques. Revolution Doesn't Have To be Violent, Start The Revolution By Asking Simple Questions. It Will Help To Change This Country, That I am Sure of. |
