soulhighman: Thanks a lot, I was thinking funding is only available for fall. As for the GRE, I plan to write as early as possible with a personal target of 330, I believe that should help. Once again, thanks. Even with 330+, funding is still very difficult to obtain. You should try and research on the various methods of obtaining funding in the US. Examination scores (GRE, TOEFL, and GPA) are not very reliable in obtaining funding. If you have relevant research/work experiences and/or skils, you should try to leverage them in obtaining departmental assistanships. Or alternatively you can apply for PhD programs. Finally, try and research schools, and departments, that have consistently given out aid in the past. Most schools will not change their policies for you - it is difficult to be an exception. To that end, you can look into Mississippi State University (TA availability) and the University of Cincinnati (University Graduate Scholarships). |

lobito007: Anyone knows something about Steven's Inst of Tech? They keep sending mails for application fee waiver. However, their acceptance rate was 38% for 2013. I take this to mean they receive excess barrage of applications from willing candidates. Why then would they solicit for applicants! Considering that it's a private inst, how generous are they with funding? In general, how prestigious is the sch? A decreasing acceptance rate usually leads to increase in rankings. They solicit for applicants to get a more beneficial acceptance rate. Schools like Steven's, RIT, and NYU Tandon usually give only nominal scholarships to MS applicants. Outside the top 50, most schools are usually similar, with closely clustered prestige perception. You should check the profiles of alumni from your department. |

prayerrain: hi gurus please I need your advice once again I am currently filling a grad assistantship form which requires me to indicate the kind of assistantship I would prefer out of three ( Teaching Assistantship, Research Assistantship, and Service Assistantship) To say the truth I really want to underline the three but on the other hand I am thinking I might look desperate. so my question is 1. if I indicate all three, does it make me a desperate, unserious applicant that doesn't know what she wants? 2. if I indicate only research assistantship, wont I be depriving myself of the other two opportunities ? 3. if I indicate only research assistantship, will they automatically review my application for the other two?
. NOTE : I have some experiences in all three forms of assistantships at least I have been teaching for some years now. I need this funding seriously... please help a sister. Choose the three forms of financial aid. You won't seem desperate. Most schools consider you for all available aid by default. Grad schools understand that funding is very important to applicants. |

yorex2011: So far i have Georgia tech, University of texas at austin, University of Illinois University of Minnesota Arizona state University... Planning for spring 2017..fall 2017 too far tho I've read that spring admissions are at a slight disadvantage over their fall counterparts
Proposed MS in electrical engineering - Electrical engineering and power systems What is your priority? Funding or admission? Assuming you prioritize funding and are applying for MS: Georgia Tech will likely not give you funding except you have real and meaningful research experience with at least a paper (IEEE transactions and the likes). Austin will be ambitious for your profile. As a rule of thumb, to get funding, your application must be very competitive compared to other admitted students. MS funding for ASU is not likely. |

Cos i just did one small test maths of 37 questions ans i got 34 correctly which could pass for a 166...and its just to test my current abilities... You either want to write the GRE or you don't; there is no dabbling. If you do, get the official guides and take the powerprep tests (you can download it from the ets website). PS: I wanna write IELTS so I'll be preparing for the two! For any meaningful recommendation, you need to take a diagnostic test first, to ascertain your current level. Go to the ETS website, download the Powerprep software, and take the first practice test. Report back your scores and we can go from there. For the Quant, subscribe to the Magoosh plan. Run with Magoosh for the remainder of January. Purchase and take the 6 Manhattan practice tests from the beginning of February to your test date. |

I am interested in applying for an m.sc program in Germany, and due to my low GPA (3.03/5.0) I want to write GRE so as to increase my chances of being admitted..... So my question is, I have a deadline of march 1 to meet, do you think its late for me to write the exams? considering the fact that I am going to start preparations this month and have to write the exams around February so as to meet my march 1 deadline........ please my dear friends your inputs are highly welcomed.... what course did you study in your undergrad? What are your target scores? How much have you budgeted for prep? How much study hours per week can you afford? |

Chanteh: Am really glad to find a thread like this on NL. I was opportuned to spend 3 months for a training course in the US and wrote my GRE there. I used 1 month to study plus busy moments during the training. I scored V145 Q143. I was dissapointed and cried all day. Now back to Nigeria and I intend to write again in febuary. Please DanjaNinja can you add me to the fb group? I wish to take insight from all you gurus so I can make more than 300 in my next exam. Thanks to you all and happy holidays. For scores of 160+ in both sections, you would ideally need 2 - 3 months of prep and the following materials. 1) Official Guides + Manhattan 5lb book + Nova math. For a more comprehensive prep, the online resources below are also useful. 2) Manhattan's 6 online practice tests + magoosh's $99 premium plan. If you have an adequate math foundation or are scoring above 155 in Quantitative practice tests, Barron's, Gruber, Mcgraw-Hill, and Princeton Review are all useless (for top Quant scores). |

CarterIV: Yes $75 waived and I can submit official transcript and gre later... There is room to upload unofficial documents pending the time of processing... I just need to provide the official documents before I resume(if I get it ofcourse)... Nice. When registering for the Search Service, did you declare your undergraduate GPA as A/A+? ETS does not allow schools to search candidates by GRE score bands only. Instead, the search result is populated by individuals who meet either the undergraduate GPA OR GRE score band criteria. |
