Ur ordeal reminds me of “Dax To be Man”

Married man are going through alot
To Be A Man
Song by Dax

Lyrics

I can't hide myself
I don't expect you to understand
I just hope I can explain
What it's like to be a man
It's a lonely road
And they don't care 'bout what you know
It's not 'bout how you feel
But what you provide inside that home

Yeah, I know this life can really beat you down, uh
You wanna scream but you won't make a sound, uh
Got so much weight that you've been holdin'
But won't show any emotion, as a man, that goes unspoken
That we can't cry when life gets hard
Unconditional love for women, children and dogs
We know that we just have to play our parts
And don't nobody give a damn about our broken hearts, yeah
As a man, we gotta pave our way
Our only function is to work and slave
There's no respect for you if you ain't paid
You're disregarded as a human and you can't complain
And if you ever make it up and actually reach that place
And find a woman that you love and give her your last name
You'll feel the things that you provide is only why she stays
And when you try to explain, you'll say

I can't hide myself
I don't expect you to understand
I just hope I can explain
What it's like to be a man (what it's like to be a man)
It's a lonely road (it's a lonely road)
And they don't care 'bout what you know (care 'bout what you know)
It's not 'bout how you feel
But what you provide inside that home

Don't give up, keep fightin'
As a man, our son is our horizon
And our fathers' actions play a role and we end up like him
So they can't let us see them hurt
'Cause we'll embody what we do and start a generational curse
No wonder most men are so depressed
All the things that they can't express
They go to war, get thrown on the shelf
Then go back to war with they mental health
Then grab that bottle and ask for help
Try to pull themselves out of hell
Then fall back down and then realize
That they gon' have to do it themselves
It's the circle of life, as a man, you provide
They don't know what you're worth 'til the day that you die
And that's when they start cryin'
Then move on to a man to confide in
That's why we feel

We can't hide ourselves
We don't expect you to understand
We just hope we can explain
What it's like to be a man (what it's like to be a man)
It's a lonely road (it's a lonely road)
And you don't care 'bout what we know (care 'bout what we know)
It's not 'bout how we feel
But what we provide inside that home (inside that home)
That home
It's not 'bout how we feel
But what we provide inside that home (inside that home)

I just decided to read through this thread, I am not in the UK. But even in some work places in Nigeria, this same thing is going on but perpetuate by the foreigners. To be honest that is one reason I want to leave since it is taking me too long to get another job. The md's character with the characters of other foreigners is the reason I want to leave. I cant be in my country and someone calls me a monkey. When the man gets angry he starts to make monkey sounds and it has gone from there to openly telling us that we dont reason. Bonus ever enjoyed before has been cut down. No one cares of how u get to do job.

Thank you so much! My HSE work experience is 2years 7months. I share your sentiments about Alberta and the crude oil depression. No family ties or concrete job offers though but other factors we're considering are health care and cost of living, so Alberta seemed to check all those boxes for us, but now, we're trying to explore other provinces; Ontario and British Columbia. Another thing is that I've got some experience in chemical analyses as well, so I'm trying to tie all that in and look for places that may offer job opportunities in these areas. What do you advise? in
Well, the more options you are qualified for, the better (HSE or Chemistry) but you actually will find opportunities in both fields in almost all provinces, You can randomly search for the positions of both professions on platforms like indeed.ca for different cities or provinces just to have an idea of the number and frequency of job availability in the discipline. Generally speaking though, Ontario has the largest manufacturing sector in my estimate.

Hello, I'm ABD in the US now and my degree is in Environmental Science/Chemistry, with some Nigerian experience in HSE. I'm currently looking at job prospects, ways to improve myself (maybe certifications) and searching for best province to live based on job prospects. Everything seems to be pointing to Alberta but with this oil depression now, everything has changed. Any advice please? Thanks
How many years of HSE work experience did you garner in Nigeria before leaving? If you intend exploring the HSE field as an option when you get to Canada, I'd advise you better start with writing the CSP exam (Board of Certified Safety Professionals-BCSP) right now in the US. That would ultimately you a good leverage towards obtaining the Canadian equivalent (CRSP).

As for the best province to live based on job prospects, its common knowledge that Alberta's economy is heavily tied to the prosperity of the Oil and Gas sector which has been dealt copious blows over the years especially in recent times. At this time, I'd generally advise newcomers to look elsewhere (other provinces) if there's no particular edge/advantage (e.g family ties or concrete job offers) coming to Alberta offers them.

That's too far away though but some people like money too much. However, some also move up north to work for maybe 3 years cos they want to quickly pay off their student loans via government loan forgiveness programs for nurses and extra northern allowance (tax return).

While some nurses are struggling to get a full-time job in Alberta especially Calgary/Edmonton (Alberta is aiming to cut 750 nursing position too), PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are experiencing a severe shortage and are even looking outside the country to fulfil their hiring needs.

But would the nurses crying for FT and perm roles with AHS move? No. Big city life style can be hard to abandon cheesy

I believe British citizens are eligible for the working holiday visa for youths under the international experience Canada program. This visa is just a 24months temporary visa with age restriction (18 to 30 years). A British national would still need to apply for permanent residency via Express entry like everyone else if they desire to live permanently in Canada.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by esterella:

This is not correct. British citizens have a different pathway for migration to Canada.
Erm...I won't exactly say British citizens have a different pathway for migration to Canada because the Express Entry pathway doesn't discriminate on the basis of nationality as I know of British citizens who have migrated to Canada through the Express Entry route. So, the category you referenced is actually a 'Working Holiday category' which is designed for British citizens who intend to travel in Canada and who wish to find temporary paid employment to help pay for their trip (up to 24 months)

The Working Holiday category is only for British citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 and they cannot be accompanied by dependants. The holiday category is therefore like an extended holiday work visa which definitely wouldn't fit every Briton's idea of how to migrate to Canada from the UK otherwise, Britons intending to migrate with dependants would have been unable to migrate to Canada.

While on the Work Holiday visa some may over time, try to switch their visa category but I reckon that those who qualify for the Express Entry would rather go directly through that route which is also faster and grants them immediate permanent residence more especially so, if they've got dependants they intend migrating with.

The link below explains further.

Yes, there's no particular advantage, a Briton has over a Nigerian in the Canadian Express Entry process, it's entirely point based and all applicants are assessed on a level playing field. If you've got the time, the thread link below would guide you to more details:

Drilling operations is not restricted to oil prospecting. Drilling is a major part of mining and mineral prospecting. There is healthy demand for drillers in Western Australia and Northern Queensland.

Moving to Australia as a Canadian citizen is not a walk in the park. It is either you follow the skill migration or the work holiday arrangement which has age limit. If they have the resources and can meet up the points, they can go ahead now than later.
@bolded is seconded. Certainly, as a Canadian citizen, its visa-free to visit Australia but moving for work is a whole different ball game. In my opinion, if they've got the resources, they probably can try securing both PR while age and other factors are still in their favour.

Apparently this may be one of the many reasons why the federal skills program was revamped to favour younger applicants early in their careers. In previous programs, the application favoured older applicants with many years of experience, and it was often difficult for them to start all over again after arriving in the country. Few were lucky and get back to the same position they were back home.

As per oil workers. This has been going on for a while for foreign oil sector employees from outside Canada. I had two naija oil workers in the neighborhood some years ago. They left their familes in Canada and returned to work in naija. They visit often to check up on the family. While I have no idea how much they were making or how hard it was on the family having the breadwinner outside the country, but I can tell they were doing okay. Wives not working, kids in private schools and owned big homes in rich areas of Calgary (they would have paid at least a 30% down payment on like 800k and above houses, since their jobs were outside Canada - the rules then).

I believe more oil sector employees would have even left the country (Canada) since the oil downturn.
In addition, for that amount of earnings in Nigeria, tax would be around 10%. In Canada, earnings of that amount of wage would be around 30 to 38% deductions depending on province. Overall, I would pick peace of mind or other basic things in life over take home earnings.
@bolded, probably true, I gather some Nigerian oil & gas folks may have even have left Canada to go work in the middle east after the downturn in recent years (with or without their family) and only visit Canada for holidays.

A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl was sucked into a swimming pool pump and left trapped for three hours in agony while on holiday in Costa del Sol, her family claim.

Terrified Zara Clarkson desperately had to keep her head above water for hours as firefighters armed with jackhammers smashed through the pool's concrete wall to free her.

Zara had her arm badly damaged in the pool side incident at Costa del Sol
Zara Clarkson's arm was sucked into the pool while she swam while on a family holiday

The little girl's arm has since swollen three times its normal size - with doctors fearing she could have suffered blood poisoning from the suction.

Dad Zack, 46, of Manchester, said: "Zara was panicking and screamed out ‘daddy the pool is sucking me and it won’t stop'.

"Something with that kind of suction would have easily pulled a smaller child under the water and they would have been killed."

Zack said his instinct had been to drag his daughter’s arm out but he stopped knowing this risked causing even greater damage.

Instead, he stayed "cheek to cheek" with Zara keeping her calm as emergency services attempted to saw open the pool’s drainage system.

Dad Zack Clarkson
He said: "She is a brave little kid but of course, but it has had an effect on her, she is really upset and has told us she never wants to go swimming again."

The dad and daughter were enjoying their first family holiday at the luxury villa in Estepona with Zara’s twin sister Lucy and their mum Claire, 42, having only brought the property in the Villas de Santa Maria at Christmas.

But the trip was ruined as little Zara became stuck on Friday, with dramatic images showing the poolside patio torn up circular saws and drills used by emergency services.

Zack added: "I am a tough lad but my first thought was to go to the corner of the pool and have a quiet sob.

Zara’s mum Claire added: "It was unbearable, I felt helpless and just wanted her out."

Doctors now fear that the force of the suction may have forced toxins to be released into Zara’s bloodstream.

It had been claimed in respected local newspaper Diario Sur that the pump switch was turned off at the time of the incident but Zack denied it

linearity:
Pool pulps are circulation systems and incapable of generating enough current to pull a human body anywhere.

Everything left floating in the pool ends up in the filter or attached to one of the intake valves.

Also her narrative that they were pulled to the center of the pool is in direct conflict with the fact that her hat was pulled to the pool filter intake.

Pool filter intakes are located at the side of the pool and very close to the surface, about less than a feet below the water level. If pool pulp was pulling them, it would have pulled them towards the pool filter intake or the other intake located on side of the pool and not the center of the pool.

The only valve usually located at the center of a pool and at the bottom of the deep side is the the drain valve, use to drain water from the pool and empty it and only use during pool maintenance and not when the pool is in use and that too does not have enough force to pull a body.
Without a CCTV footage of the incident, all most of us can do is speculate. Check out the story below where a 6 year-old girl almost drowned at a similar or same Spanish resort (the pool picture looks so similar to the one in question) in August of this year (4 months ago). While the specific scenario might be different, its interesting to note that the resort also disputed with the girl's father on the facts of the story in that instance.

Ok. I get it. It sure calls for careful scrutiny then. Just that with Brexit almost certain to kick in by January 31st, some immigration laws may still be tweaked before the end of 2020 as the UK will have just 11 months till December 2020 to finally exit the EU.

Thanks, I am currently in a research position but even that is just for the duration of my DES. Now people have suggested to keep trying for a Tier 2, but we know how that can be, and after what happened to a friend of mine that lost her job on a Tier 2 visa, I don't want the uncertainty associated with it. I haven't really looked too much into the requirements for start up visa, but I heard its only for 2 years. I need 4. I am also currently learning about the exceptional talent visa and that may eventually be what I go for, but I heard (and i may be wrong here) that it works better for those already on Tier 1, 2 or 5? Thats why I want to also investigate this PSW route.
If you dont mind, can you share what happens in a scenario where one losses a job while on Tier 2 so we probably can learn a thing or two. I would have thought a Tier 2 visa should be one of your viable options for consideration in this case.
