'The beautiful ones are not yet born' in Nigeria politics this seems true. |
kojeiwa:What format does the convention take I would like to know. I just might attend. |
Seun:Seun are you married? @ Poster Marriage has its own challenges at the begin there is no need to complicate it with the challenges of pregnancy and being a mum before you've got a hang of being a wife. Believe me who no go non know. Be weary of someone who goes against his acclaimed belief. What next? What values would your home be built on. You need to know what he really believes and what yardstick would used for making decisions in your home. Would it be God's word or what suits him or outside influences? These are serious issues if you do not take a stand now you can not do so later and you may have lost it forever. If your ability to have children is that important to him then why not a medical examination as some kind of compromise and assurance to him but he has to go through it too. |
akara:I have never lied about my age I just keep celebrating an anniversary of my 21st birthday! ie 19th anniversary of my 21st birthday when I hit 40 if you do the maths you get the age. ![]() |
@ Poster Did she categorically lie to you about her age or did she just allow you go on with your own wrong impression of her age? I would suggest you talk about it and continue with the relationship. People in love sometimes do foolish things out of fear of loosing the love of the person they love and their understanding of your values in that direction. This doesn't make it right it just makes them human. To ere is human to forgive is divine. You may be feeling you've been made a fool of let it go as that was not the motive. Please be weary of people you suggest end the relationship because of this lie. If she is a liar you would have know by now. I believe challenges come to people because they can handle it. This has come to you because you can. What does not break you makes you. I wish all the best. |
NBA:From UK standard that's too long any ideas what the average Nigeria time scales are? how much longer do you expect to wait? |
@NBA et al Update on the Diamond Reach Account I just got of the phone with my contact at diamond bank. I have been informed that I should be expecting the following:
[li]ATM Card - which can be used in Nigeria[/li] [li]Cheque Book[/li] [li]Online Banking login details[/li]
When I asked about time frame she said a few days from when they send it. It seems this team makes the request on behalf of the customers abroad and then forward it by courier when they get it. Please let me know if you learn anything different. Hope you are all having a great day |
Hi All, I haven't been using a broker to buy shares but what I have been doing is I complete the form, sign and then scan and email to my brother who prints it out in colour and pays at the bank issuing the shares. So far I have used GTB, First Inland and Oceanic and they have all accepted my scanned copies. I send the the money via money gram. I hope to get a broker soon but until then this is what has worked for me. Please note I have used this method for very recent offers ( NACHO and Dangote Flour) so haven't completed the full circle of actually having the shares allocated yet. Hope this helps someone |
No thank you ! Just imagine what hell the campus will turn into with cult on cult violence! it would be a war zone. |
@ Man Jiro Thanks Hi All, for anyone having challenges of getting their forms countersigned by their exsisting bank. Keep at it eventually you would find someone who doesnt think the form has been written in Greek. I visited 3 branches of Lloyds TSB before I met a lady at the desk who just followed the instructions on the form and signed and stamped it for me. Branch 1: ' we dont do this in the branch we have to send it off somewhere Branch 2: ' our manager is not in this week if we do sign only the manager can sign' Branch 3: signed on the spot, stamped and ready for dispatch The data protection make them pannick before thinking |
My maiden name was a double barrel name so it would have been very awkward combining them with my husband's surname. Now I think about it maybe I should have shortened all of them and come up with something different ![]() |
The accent I cant stand is a Nigerian accent (usually strong Yoruba, Ibo or Bini etc) blended into what the speaker thinks is phonetics (which is usually an American accent with the four letter word punctuating every utterance, and the intonation swinging between the American accent and the Nigerian one ! It just hurt my ears. It must be hard work manually blending these accent for every utterance. |
@ Londoner when a marriage takes place traditionally the girls parents are giving out their daughter. The girls parents are the Host, its on their territory so logically it would be their culture. My sister (Bini) married a Yoruba man the traditional marriage was according to the Bini tradition. @Poster I think your cousin is not ready to marry. Lots of Bini's have married yorubas and the postrating has not been a problem. If the lady is worth it then he would have done it. If I was the woman he can just forget it. What kind of public humilation is that. If a bini family was on the receiving end of that insult the man would have a hard time getting anyone to give me a second chance and if he gets it he would be well humbled. |
@ Man Jiro I expect it would be the same except that in place of your personal reference number we would now have a given Diamond Bank account. In any situation where you have the option to use either account number or name opt for the account number its more unique and if it is transferred directly from your bank account you will always have an audit trail. |
@ Man Jiro Hi, I logged on to my online bank, choose the option to pay bill and set it up as a bill payment. I used the sort code for Diamond's Citibank as given for sort code in the set up and the Diamond Bank's account number as account number my personal reference given by Diamond Bank is used as reference in the Bill set ( Not my name) Pounds Sterling: Sort Code: 18 50 08 Account Name: Diamond Bank Reach Account Account No.: 11414690 For further credit to: Enter your personal reference here not your name………………………………………, (Name & Account No. of Beneficiary) Ignore all IBAN and Swift details as they would only be relevant for international transfer |
@ NBA Hi NBA, I have had several correspondence from Diamond Bank at the various stages of opening my account:
[li]After submitting the form online - same day (automated response)[/li] [li]After sending the scanned documents - same day automated response and an email from a named person the next morning [/li] [li]Details and reference to pay into the account - same day - automated response and email from named person the next morning [/li] [li]Confirmation of funds received- 2 days after I send via online banking from my UK Bank - email from named person [/li] [li]Last correspondence welcome letter with account number and list of services- one day later - automated email[/li]
I have been given a toll free number to call which I havent done yet. The email does not let me know what to expect next in terms of internet access, bank cards or charges. I will keep you posted I hope this was helpful. |
almondjoy:Not at all. How do you interpret comments like: teena:and all the other comments it happens every where ? If you read my last response in context you would see where I am coming from |
There seems to be a misconception that addressing issues on Nigeria is being unpatriotic. I would like to ask who is more patriotic ? the one who sees something bad and accepts it or the one who mentions it in view of causing a change? If the issue of corruption observed by many in the 70s and accepted as the way of life was tackled then, Nigeria would be better of and we wouldn't be breeding governors who get in to offices just to steal (and please don't tell me it happens every where - of course it does and the people there are addressing it lets not shy away, pretend its not there or try and bully the one who speak up) It will only make the problem grow My question to all of you
[li]People get mugged in the streets beaten up - it happens every where. Would you accept it if it happens to you? does it make it less of a problem ?[/li] [li]Some Banks go under and depositor loose their money, it happens every where, does it mean you want it to happen to you ? does it make it acceptable ?[/li] I'll leave you to your thoughts Denying the problem would not make it disappear but grow. |
You lot had me going for a minute. You are good! |
Try the Stock Market Tips thread they tend to give a detailed analysis on Shares on offer to help you decided. There is something on FCMB on this page https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-31554.3264.html |
Prince T:Spot on |

Attached are the form for Fidelity and Prospectus for Japaul |
Everyone has different abilities and education might be the only options for some and others could go either way and still make. It would appear to me that Peter would have excelled even if he went to school full time and graduated he would have been one of those enterprising students who had a business on the side. Paul on the other hand sounds like he is waiting for things to be handed to him, with such an enterprising brother why did he wait three years why didn't he just learn the ropes with his brother? My stand is that Paul is better off on the path he has taken as he doesn't appear to have the drive that is required to do business and most likely would have sucked at it. University education is to broaden the mind in view of you being able to apply your mind to productive venture. If after a University education you still have to wait for three years expecting to be fed, then the University system has actually failed him as it looks like he has not been prepared for the real world. |
9ja4eva:What Country would you have us focus on seeing that this thread clearly states its referring to a pattern noticed on nairaland ? and as a Nigerian I believe it should be my primary focus to change things I can. What do you think? |
Fantastic idea. Make it special by not bottling the juice but juicing based on orders. Customers pay and then you process the juice for them. Anyone who taste it would not complain. The best part is we have a variety of fruits and vegetables which would work nicely. I hope the link below helps and when you start let us know the location if its in Benin or Lagos then I will patronise whenever I visit. All the best. http://www.zummo.co.uk/acatalog/Juice_Bars.html |
muchbabe:Thanks that's one aspect of it. Kill a suggestion before it even takes root. Alec:You have just echoed my point people should moderate their responses. We have self control and can exercise it. We are not machines remotely controlled. How many of us would be flippant in a job interview say in a Bank for a dream job after 6 years of unemployment, hunger and frustration? my guess is that we would be polite because its important to us. Bottom line it has not become important to us to be polite that's why some of us are very quick to abuse and insult others. |
Thanks again to everyone. I would like your opinon on this: Re: What Does Your Name Mean? who GIVES A fuckINg damn what your name is>?, please keep that crap to yourself, aint nobody gon go extra miles trying to figure what "DEMONIC NAME"MEANSPlease can someone tell me how the above statement resulted in the following one. Honestly I was not looking for this I was enjoying a thread about the meaning of names. I was half expecting someone who understands yoruba to guess her name and the next thing i saw was this! |
Thanks to everyone who has responded and given various reasons. There will always be reasons so are we going to cave into aggression because we have a reason to do so. I know Nigeria can be a tasking place to live in but it is still not the a war torn region and hasn't experienced (thank God) war or famine consistently like some other countries. I agree there are mean people everywhere but I do not think Nigerians fall into that category its just our tendency to be flippant and express ourselves with harsh words. The people in question may actually be nice people who have just learnt to behave this way. What can we do to change this at least on Nairaland debosky:Thanks correction noted. pmdaboh:Its a relief to know this is not a unique observation at least there is hope for us. Is it possible that people find it easy to abuse people they don't see and would be a bit more reserved if it was a face to face discussion? uspry1:This posting started by asking a question based on specific behaviours found on Nairaland which correct me if I am wrong has a large Nigerian membership. I can go through some specific threads and point out abuses that where uncalled for this has happened over and and over again and I would like to know why. It is not good enough for me that it happens elsewhere so its okay. If I was on another forum with the same kind of pattern I would be asking the same questions. |
I have been on nairaland for sometime now and I have noticed a very disturbing pattern. Why is it when a an argument is being lost we result to abusive words or when someone has any opinion different from ours we insult them or shout them down. What happened to freedom of expression. It is this attitude of wanting to hear what suits us that breeds sycophants and makes our leaders lie to us. How exactly our we going to grow as a nation if the enlighten ones do not have basic respect other peoples opinion. This basic respect is the hallmark of civilised society Let us decided on this forum not to dignify insults with any response no matter how tempting it might be. |
