Cool4ny

Within one year of coming to London i have been burgled 3 times ( don't think i live in peckham or newscross or abbeywood or oldkent or walworthroad) i live in surrey (if u knw what i mean). The crime in London is very very high and all these young kids believe they can do whatever they like. In Nigeria, them no born u make u insult elder, in London it is normal thing.
Hi Cool4ny let get some facts straight no speed reading. The above is what you said and my response to that was :

If on the other hand you live in one of the posh areas Surrey then I'll would say you are just plain unlucky you might need special prayers!!!
@Cool4ny

If you think i need prayer living a posh area, u must be sick. I have paid my dues and i am proud to be one of the Nigerians living large in UK and i am not sorry if you are living in peckham or east street.
Prayer in question is what I would recommend to anyone who lives in a good neighbourhood and has been attached 3 times in one year. You must agree that's a very high! It a pity you are experiencing all that in Surrey. Its usually very safe ( Have lived in Surrey for 4+ years now) what a shame ,

You have paid 'your dues' good for you but do relax on the abusive words we don't have to agree. You know I am not sick otherwise what would that say about you communicating with me? I believe you are decent or would have learnt to operate on a decent level. Lets keep it civilised

Another fact Abbey National PLC (A Bank) about 10 years Closed its Norwood ( Surrey)
branch because it was constantly being robbed and no staff wanted to work there the Briton branch remained opened and probably is still opened today.

WebmastersRe: Has The Nigerian Web Community Come Of Age Yet? by Etin(f): 11:31pm On Oct 12, 2007
the Naija web community will remain at infancy as long as we don't reckon with made in Nigeria websites. We need to support sites like nairaland.com , oneloveng.com to attain their full potentials.
What exactly is a 'made in Nigeria' website - does using a forum template designed by SMF constitute a made in Nigeria site ?

How can you claim we don't support sites like nairaland when we are all registered members hence we can have this conversation and there are 140235 members on this forum as at 10.48pm 12/10/2007?

On a more serious note I do not think Nigeria web community is immature. In fact I am very impressed with the hunger and awareness I perceive in the Web community given the known challenges of internet access, and the low percentage of people with unlimited access, added to the failure of the government to play its role and provide the required infrastructure. At the rate we are going I am sure our hunger and awareness would give birth to good things. I have been on the internet for over ten years and I can say categorically that even in countries like Uk where the government has initiated training to encourage people to go online it has not been embraced with such zeal as the Nigeria web community.

I have used other forums where spam is not an issue. As a matter of fact it is in the interest of the forum to sort out spam as most site host would gladly kick out your site on that grounds. - No one wants there Server clogged up with scam and eventually Virus.

BusinessRe: Quality Matters In Nigeria by Etin(f): 5:27pm On Oct 11, 2007
It nice to know quality assurance awareness has come to Nigeria. As one of the forerunners of this let your web site show quality. I find the fonts blurry and the colours are harsh on the eyes. Keep it clean and simple. I have randomly selected the first quality assurance website that came up in google for you to compare to. Check this http://www.thecqi.org/
InvestmentRe: When Is MTN Coming To The Stock Market? by Etin(f): 4:28pm On Oct 11, 2007
It is not compulsory for a company to come on the Stock Market. Companies would usually do so to raise finance and it is usually the last option as it is time consuming and expensive. Don't be deceive coming to the Stock Market is not primarily to share the profit with you but to raise cash from you

BusinessRe: Business Advise From Nairalanders by Etin(f): 6:06pm On Oct 09, 2007
I would suggest that you pay them a lower salary and let them earn unlimited commission on sales which you must diligently pay. Have quarterly good prices for best performer (create an environment where the staff compete healthily amongst themselves). It could be something as simple as having their picture displayed in a prominent place as staff of the month. Please ensure that your commission structure is worthwhile it shouldn't' be the case that a Staff has to make sale worth billions to earn commission of 10000.00 naira this would defeat the purpose and demotivate the team.

Set realistic targets for them to achieve - weekly and monthly

Train your staff properly and keep up with weekly training on tips on best practise

Create a feed back system such that Staff are on there toes daily as they need to be able to speak of their attempt daily.

Randomly assign yourself to work with one of your sale staff for the day and that would keep them on there toes and create good working habits

A friend of mine once said never keep the Sales people too comfortable, keep them hungry enough to push them to hit targets. I hope this is helpful

@ cool4ny

I think all ya are just plain stupid.
That's a bit harsh don't you think we have all been very civilised in expressing ourselves? Where exactly in Surrey do you live ? South Croydon, Norwood or Thorthon Heath ? - because these areas in Surrey have higher crime rates than Peckham or Brixton. You can't blame anyone for your experience if you choose to live in a high crime area can you? If on the other hand you live in one of the posh areas Surrey then I'll would say you are just plain unlucky you might need special prayers!!!
BusinessRe: where do I invest my money? by Etin(f): 5:00pm On Oct 09, 2007
It would seem people on tis forum are of the opinion you shouldn't have 20million and not know what to do. Funny its a problem but a nice one to have. On a serious note I would invest in properties. Its tried and tested.
WebmastersRe: Website Review - Just Nigeria Entertainment by Etin(f): 11:07pm On Oct 08, 2007
@juintade

But lets face it, if you can't take insult and crticism then I suggest you don't ask for website review, i do apologise seriously for my previous post and for this one.
Insult is an English word which means to treat or speak to insolently or with contemptuous rudeness; affront.

Criticism on the other hand means the act of passing severe judgment; censure; faultfinding.

As a professional Test Analyst I can assure you that reviewing a website is not equal to being insulting and no one has to take your insults. It is very possible
to be objective without resulting to abusive words.
I find this:
Honestly, let me start by apologising if you think i insulted you, I do seriously apologise.
the opposite of :

If you are intelligent enough you would notice that I did not design the blog, idiot it was done on google platform, hence my dog would not be able to desgin that.

Dreams dreams dreams. Let forget about armed robbers in Nigeria as that has been adequately answered by

grafikdon:
Oooooookay. . . I have nothing against dreams but I am totally against a man dreaming of developing big breasts within 7 hours. . . flip it and roll it all you want. . . there is no way, I mean come on! Where in London will ami robbers go and relax, cook ewedu and ogbono soup, drink Aromatic schnapps perhaps watch a couple of Nollywood films while lighting the sky with gun shots and then loot the house dry and leave unscathed? huh
To add to that list where in UK do you think you would find a checkpoint on the motorway set up by armed robbers? I can assure you NO WHERE.

Lets look take a look at simple road safety - interstate travel. How many of us can travel freely between states in Nigeria daily without a having a major thanksgiving party for coming back in one piece? In UK I regularly work and travel to different parts and and at various times and I am not overtly scared of my safety. Last time I came to Nigeria with my 8 months old baby. I had to fly to Benin, there where no seatbelts for me to strap my baby to my self during the flight - Now how safe is that. Apart from robbery a lot of people die in road accidents and more recently an increase in air accidents.

Lets talk about fake drugs and food. Lets say you are so safe and escape road accident and armed robbers, you better not get sick because you might not escape fake drugs or poison from adulterated food.

Now that is really looking safe!!!!

I have not been able to access Diamond Banks website, are you having the same situation or is it just me?

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Banks, Stockbrokers, And Services For Nigerians Abroad by Etin(f): 2:19pm On Oct 05, 2007
Hi NBA,

now that's looking very good. I started out with the Diamond Reach Account yesterday and so far I am impressed with the responses. All documents required have been scanned and emailed to them and acknowledge by them, not only by their automated mails but by a named person too. I have also received a reference number with which to transfer funds to the account via Citi Bank. So far so good.

The information provided by you on your UBA is very encouraging as UBA is my first choice. I guess I'll be pursuing that angle too. I'll keep you posted on my findings.

Thanks again.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Banks, Stockbrokers, And Services For Nigerians Abroad by Etin(f): 5:20pm On Oct 04, 2007
Hi NBA,

Thanks for your quick response. I have got to the point where I need to have an account I can remotely operate from UK. I would probably have gone for UBA savings but if I transfer to my brother's account then charges would be incurred if he try to get it out. Its so bad that when I sent money to buy some shares via moneygram rather than pay it into his UBA account and buy the shares there he took the cash to GTB and bought the shares through his account at GTB. That made me wonder what kind of charges make you risk carrying large sums?

I think I'll check out Diamond Bank. Thanks for this very useful and informative thread.

Hi NBA,

Please I would like to know how you are finding the Diamond Bank account ? I initially considered the UBA as they are very responsive but it seems their charges can be high and unexpected. What have you found it terms of online banking access and customer service responsiveness with your non residential accounts. Thanks

FamilyRe: I Won't Circumcise My Baby Boy (If Any) by Etin(f): 5:14pm On Oct 03, 2007
Yes I would circumcise my boy and in fact did at 7 days old. We opted for the Rabbi to do it. I wasn't in the room but his dad was with him it was over in 5 minutes maximum and my boy wasn't crying he slept through the night and all went well. It never crossed my mind not to do it. If I get to have a million more sons would do it again and again. My experience tells me the child felt no pain.

You might as well say you wont have children because the child birth process for some women has been terrible. Everyman to his own paranoia!
RomanceRe: Do Perfect Relationships Exist? by Etin(f): 5:19pm On Oct 01, 2007
Hi All,

I wouldn't use the term perfect as its too clinical and would be an adequate term for something with a fixed value (Numerate), one that anyone could check the boxes and tick off. In relationships that is not the case the standards keep changing by communities and by person - there are no absolutes for measuring relationships only the people in it really know what works for them.

There are happy, comfortable, good relationships but non of them got there without going through a learning curve and a determination to make it work.

The concept of 'perfect relationships' is one of the reason for lots of marriage breakup, lots of people have been sold a myth - love movies, mills & boon, novels, fairy tales etc.

Real people are comfortable to live with, unrealistic expectations creates dissatisfactions.
BusinessRe: Investment Or Savings? by Etin(f): 10:11pm On Sep 28, 2007
Saving or Investing? They are both important.

Investment would make you more money but your funds are usually tied, and not readily accessible i.e If you had only houses and shares and needed 10,000 naira in 6hours, how quickly can you convert either of these popular investments to cash with out borrowing?

Savings, on the other hand, is important for that rainy day; it might not be a crisis but any routine expense which you would normally be able to afford, except this time your cash flow (income) was delayed by circumstance beyond your control.

In building our financial empires lets not forget the importance of Cashflow - A balance between savings and investments is always healthy. It is not wise to have millions worth of assets and be floored by a simple bill in hundreds.
WebmastersRe: How Do You Make $300 Or Pounds In A Day? by Etin(f): 5:41pm On Sep 28, 2007
Most people in the IT sector over here in UK make that and more. If may be possible to increase your earnings by bidding for programming /development jobs online. The Indians have been doing this for a long time. The following site has been designed for the Nigerian Market. Just Register you never know what might come up. Good luck

http://www.naijascripts.com/ might help you get some more work!!!

I work as a QA / Test Analyst and it does require that I am up to date on various technologies as each project is usually on a different environment and industry sector and sometime different town.

Last week I wanted to send money home for some shares and I found out the following for the same amount.

Money gram
Exchange rate: 248naira to 1 pound
Cost of transaction = 17 pounds
Collection Period =15minutes later

Western Union
Exchange rate = 240naira to 1 pound
Cost of transaction = 25pounds
Collection period = 24hours after

or
Cost of transaction = 50 pounds
Collection period = same day

From the information above I would say Moneygram is it. I couldn't believe Western Union had such a low exchange rate and much higher fees and to transfer the money the same day their charges more than three times that of moneygram.

Concerning your married boss its obvious you have made up your mind what you want to do unfortunately no one has said want you want to hear.

A word is enough for the wise!
