Lol... the media is a powerful tool. Imagine how the reporter and NL men are conveniently ignoring the fact that this is a response to the "your body/my choice" trend the men started. |
oluayebenz:It’s all about statistics. Natural growth (even when it’s high) is easy to handle cause it mostly aligns with development growth. Immigration on the other hand is a tough one even for a country with high GDP. Last year, Canada had the highest growth of all Western countries and almost all of that came from immigration. What they’re doing now is simply analyzing the result of their 10 year experiment and adjusting their figures to align population growth with development growth. Canada’s growth rate since they introduced express entry in 2015 is about 10%. This is more 1% yearly increment on the average. It was 2.9% in 2023 (the highest in G7 countries) and 98% of it came from immigration. In that same time period, the US experienced a growth of about 6%. Australia and Canada have the highest growth rate of all western countries between 2014 to 2023 (13.47% and 13.15% respectively), thanks to GSM and FSW. The US only had 5.19% in this time period. While Canada needs the population, they have to align the rate with development rate as well (infrastructure, healthcare, etc.) and this 10 year experiment only showed that they missed the alignment thus the reason they’re making adjustments now. |
Inosky:Even after Trump had started his “immigration brouhaha”, Canada was still heavy on the federal skill worker program and they were issuing visas to people for economic reasons. Why do you think that their decision to stop half a decade later has anything to do with Trump? Trump wanted to introduce skill based immigration in the US but couldn’t conclude that before his exit. This skill based immigration was already in place in Australia and Canada before then. Again, this has nothing to do with Trump. It is purely a game of numbers and if you ignore the statistics, you will always be among those speculating and coming up amateur theories. zinaunreal:I don’t think most people would want to live abroad if they could earn dollars in Nigeria. I know living abroad have some perks, but in terms of finance, anyone earning dollars in Nigeria is likely richer than most of us that live abroad. |
zinaunreal: oluayebenz:Where are people not struggling/suffering? The problem is that we Africans (myself inclusive) keep moving from one West country to another thinking it’s always better on the other side until we realize the struggle is everywhere. |
Inosky:This has nothing to do with Trump. Canada, France and some other countries have been making immigration policy changes since last year. |
ogododo: MrAmbrose:Trust Nigerians to always make everything about themselves. A country changes thier policies, we find a way to infuse our name into it. How many Nigerians are in Canada compared to Indians and Chinese? Why do you guys always feel everything is targeted at you? Nigeria is not even in the top 3 immigration sources in Canada in the 2022 national statistics, yet whenever they update their policies, we come on Nairaland to make it all about us. The world doesn’t revolve around y’all, fellas. |
BRICS is a joke. |
What were you expecting her to say? That the person going for the post of the PM will put Africa first? What some of fail to understand is that they are waiting for her to slip. Just one mistake and they would use it to ruin her political career. You can see it from the way they frame thier questions. They even mentioned black women to see if she’d bite. She knows this and she’s trying not to fall for it. She’s trying to reassure them that she’d put the country first if she ever becomes the prime minister. What she will or will not do as leader is in her mind. On the other hand, she should be more diplomatic. That she’s block doesn’t mean she get to say some things without tact. Those behind her are probably using her to say the things they cannot say. I hope they stick with her when the chips are down. |
Lol… he was obviously certified as a non flight risk. |
Mindlog:Lmao… bro, the thing tire me o. Mayor of Canada ![]() |
Mayor of Canada? lol… there’s no such position. |
DJInfluence:Maybe you should've gotten yourself acquainted with the law before playing defense on legal case. The investigation being carried out here isn't to forensically determine if it's the actual logo or not. Rather, it is to determine the extent to which his actions in the video might have misled the public or brought contempt to the force. That is because even if that's not the actual police logo, it could still be a crime based on the mere fact that the logo resembles that of the police force and more so because when combined with the rest of his outfit further gives the impression that it is the real thing. To familiarize you with the prevision of the law backing this, here is section 251 of the criminal code act: "Any person who, not being a person serving in any of the armed or police forces of Nigeria, wears the uniform of any of these forces, or any dress having the appearance or bearing any of the regimental or other distinctive marks of any such uniform, in such manner or in such circumstances as to be likely to bring contempt on that uniform, or employs any other person so to wear such uniform or dress, is guilty of a simple offence, and is liable to imprisonment for three months or to a fine of forty naira." When Bob was arrested, I didn't see y'all calling for the police to forensically analyzed the naira notes spread by Bob. However, that's fine; investigation is the right thing to do, and that is exactly what the police memo says. People supporting the police here are not haters. If you think so, then yes, it's idolization |
DJInfluence:Except that's not the police logo I'm seeing there, it doesn't matter if it was s uniform worn by the force before independence. That logo alone is a problem. You're calling others haters for pointing our what he did wrong, but the fact is that once you guys start worshipping someone, everything he does becomes okay to you. This same man was advocating for Bob to be arrested for spraying money, and you all supported that even though almost every adult has done that before. Now he's caught doing something just as illegal, and you're calling people haters pointing that out? What goes around comes around. |
Nwaikpe:So if you can actually see thier logo on the cap, what is now the point of your long epistle? Why are you then insulting the spokesperson? Or the logo tagged cap is not enough to be called "uniform"? Or the police should've ignored that bit cause it's "just logo"? |
Local government area: Ontario State: Canada Haha… it’s obvious they never anticipated arresting foreigners. |
greenermodels:Some of you just type anything. How can this work as crypto? So the value of their currency should be determined by demand alone? What do you think will become of the countries if thier currency is left without adequate monitory policies/governance? How then can they use currency as a tool to control the direction of thier economy? |
He’s no longer their fan? |
Lagos Liga? lol… any reason why the Spanish word “liga” is used instead of the English word “league”? Anyway, I hope the project gains traction. |
He had not even lived yet! |
Seeing these well dressed ladies and gentlemen lining up to collect bread from a man who was probably creating contents or seeking recognition back home brings tears to my eyes. You see how they’re not bickering about tribe or gender? That’s to tell you that hardship does not discriminate. The country is at its lowest point in years, and many of you are on here looking for ways to score gender and ethnic points. Sad. Shameful. |
If these people were women, you all would have been saying “women are thier own greatest enemy”. |
Children of hate frustrations and perdition that don't want to hear or see any good news about our darling country will soon start wailing, shouting na lie. They have promised their miserable and frustrated life ton never read any good news concerning our darling naija. Na dat bitterness and hatred go wound dem and every one on their family, n9 matter what part of the country they are from. GOD BLESS NIGERIA 🇳🇬. Slow and steady we will get to the nation of our dreams.
If only we could express our opinions on this app without degenerating to tribalism. Jumia that was founded in Nigeria 10 years ago got so big and expanded to other countries in Africa. Today, they’re gradually losing their foothold in other countries and they’re shrinking back to where they started, and you think that’s good news? This writeup is just fantastic PR, but y’all shouldn’t be so easily fooled. Folding up in other countries is never an indication of great performance in Nigeria. How does that even make sense to you? Regardless of how well the business is doing in Nigeria, it’s hardly enough justification to close up shops in other countries if they were doing well there. This is just a struggling company with a great PR team. They have been stifled out by thier competitors in those countries thus making Nigeria a major source of hope for them thanks to the lack of competition in the country. There’s literally no achievement to celebrate here. |
Wow… I didn’t even know this was a thing. And some people were questioning the need for feminism by asking what rights men have than. |
eepeepook:Your fellow man committed murder, and you still find a way to start insulting women? Are you not ashamed of commenting this way? You probably don’t have any idea how childish you sound. |
spinna:Hippos are vulnerable/endangered. Using the global statistics of hippos killing more people than lions as a justification for killing them in Nigeria is ridiculous. How many hippo related deaths have you seen on Nairaland in the past few years? You said they’re difficult to get to, doesn’t that imply that there’s a limited human-hippo encounter in the country? Do you think the whole of Nigeria has up to 100 hippopotamus in the wild at the moment? Even in countries like Burundi and Ethiopia where most of these deaths you’re referring to actually happen, the animal is still protected and hunting is regulated. That’s because they are smart enough to know you don’t wage war on wild animals for being wild. I don’t even know what made you think the statistics of how many people a certain wild animal kills in year is a justification for killing the animal. In 2024, Nigerians are still eating off their wild resources like the early men and your response to that is, they eat humans. Do you know how crude one has to be to think that the expectated response to wild animals eating humans is to retaliate by eating them? No meaningful wildlife conservative initiatives in the country, it’s always point-and-kill. Nawa. |
Dalohad:What do you think Bashir has to gain by saying Peter is greater than How are you people not able to see that this is what Bashir wants? At the slightest indication of a possible coalition between the two opposing parties, he quickly went in to sow a seed of discord and you guys are falling for it. |
10mobile:I believe the second sentence was based on the probability that the first evaluates to be true. No need to be rude about something so minor. |
These guys below are out here misunderstanding each other. lol Ikaeniyan0: 10mobile:Bro, that’s why the person you quoted said “might”. He didn’t say for certain that the guy was guilty. You’re the one who didn’t understand him. It was just a probability. Ikaeniyan0:You too, the guy also did not say the guy was not guilty. He was saying his culpability has not yet been established (which may or may not be the case). |
Thegamingorca:Isn’t that the most beautiful part? Lol |
doggedfighter:Owls are so beautiful! |
Charlieabc:Ok… I didn’t doubt the veracity of the news. I only asked if there was any credible source I could share cause it wasn’t mentioned anywhere on the bank’s website. The list of coins used by the country wasn’t updated. I only saw the news on social media and blogs as of yesterday. If you have any authentic source, please share with me. |
