Men are allowed to speak. I totally agree with you. Did you listen to Emeka Ike's trouble with his wife ?
He got the sympathy of the public. In fact, many eyewitnesses spoke on his behalf. Truth is that Emeka Ike's was hardly at fault. He was a responsible man who loved and took good care of his family.
Can you compare that to Yul ? WHich reasonable person would come out to say 2023 was his best year after losing a child ? You have to be sensitive. What would his other children think about him ?

The kind of nonsense these boys support on Nairaland all in the name is gender solidarity is just mind blowing.

Why do you guys like making everything about yourselves though? The country is stopping foreign students from bringing in dependents, and you're creating headlines that make it look as if you're the target. The UK receives more immigrants from India than from Nigeria, but once they make a policy change, y'all assume it's all about you. Nawa

thesicilian:
The man was probably more interested in getting the video for his social media engagement than actually saving the lady. But however true or untrue that may be, he has done his own little part of raising alarm and gathering little evidence.
The police should now focus on using that as a stepping stone to investigate further, instead of quarrelling with him for not doing more.

@bolded, that's not a fair thing to say, sir. He did more than most people would do.

He said "for the record: I raised an alarm, called on area boys, but most hesitated. The driver got back in the car and drove off. I followed the car around V.I, hoping to see a policeman to report to, but none was on the route they followed. They later started driving back."

He's not a trained security expert. He did what he believed was the right thing. Let's not question his intentions, even if we do not agree with his actions.

You state logic and in same post generalise millions ... You attribute too much to Toke.

Toke has more than 5 million followers on instagram alone. These fans of hers see her posts. Nairaland is visited by millions of users and a handful of threads have been created on here regarding her presence at the event. There was a trend about her attending the event on Twitter where people were calling her item-7. I'm certain that a lot of people like me who aren't even following her also saw this trend. She has granted a couple of interviews on platforms watched by so many people where she spoke about the event. So saying that her presence publicized the event to millions of people is a very logical and informed conclusion. I'm not a fan of Toke, but arguing that her attendance did not bring the event to the attention of a lot of people who would've otherwise not known about it is just sentiment.

Politics / Re: Seun Osewa Dumps Twitter, Gives Reasons by etrange: 1:27am On Jan 02
Except his account was actually deleted, this doesn't necessarily mean he's quiting the platform. Meanwhile, Seun probably needs a PR manager. A PR manager would not use the expression "promote good ideas and discouraged bad ideas" when talking about the controversial and mostly subjective subjects that he discusses on Twitter. Apart from being too basic, that expression puts some of his audience that didn't agree with his takes in the past into a defensive mode cause he just called their opinions bad. Now, this would undermine the main gist of the post which is that he's going to focus on Nairaland. In summary, a PR manager would, for communication sake, highlight the main point and downplay every other thing.

Example:
For the past 3 years, I have used Twitter to engage people in debates with the goal of calling attention to and sharing my opinion on some of the salient issues affecting our society today and also with the hope of creating positive impact on the minds of my audience. Apparently, this did not work quite as intended as I constantly found myself attracting vituperations on multiple fronts. This year, I have decided to channel my energy into making Nairaland a safe, inclusive and standard online forum. I am excited about the plans we have for the platform, and I believe you will be thrilled to learn about them too. I will, however, need the help of every single Nairaland user to make this transformation a reality. This is why I beseech you all to work with me as we gear towards our common goal of creating a better Nairaland.

Thank you for your support so far, and happy new year to you and your loves ones!

That may suggest that you need to expand your circle of knowledge a bit further. Those that matter knew about the event. If Toke was your road of enlightenment to know about one of the critical meetings dealing with this planet's future - I would suggest you need to elevate your mind.

Maybe I need to elevate my mind, but there are millions of people that also only heard about it cause of the trend and each and everyone of them matters. That's what counts, any other thing is putting sentiment over logic.

Fellow Nairalanders,

I'm pleased to wish you a Happy New Year!!

2024 will be the year of Nairaland's resurgence. I will face Nairaland squarely like I used to before the discouraging Data Loss Incident of 2014. I will hire more hands to help us to improve Nairaland.

The problems of Nairaland that we should have solved years ago will be solved.

* We will defeat tribalists, trolls, & spammers.
* We will complete our advertising platform.
* We will improve the UI and UX.
* Home page topics will be educative & fresh.
* We will reverse the anti-women trends.

However, I must warn you that things will get worse before they get better. Please stand with us and fight for u as Nairaland faces the tough challenges of 2024, which have already started.

Happy New Year and thanks for using Nairaland!

Seun Osewa,
Nairaland's Founder.

Happy New Year, Seun.

You know, for a moment, I thought you weren't noticing the egregious anti-women trend on this platform. Happy you intend to do something about it.

It publicized it to me and millions of others who wouldn't have known about it if her presence didn't create a trend on social media. And if you think she could've entered there without an IV, then it's a waste of time replying you any further.

So you think she was not invited? She just carried her bag and went to Dubai and they allowed her in? Dude, it's not uncommon for celebrities to be invited to summits. They may not know much about the main subject of discussion, but thier presence is simply used to publicize the event. Many people wouldn't have known about the summit if Toke wasn't there. Those people calling her names are just envious. Nigerians just like to pull down anyone achieving what they can't achieve especially if it's a lady.

Yes, but no matter how the story is told, acknowledging that there was a better way to handle it and that you made the wrong choice is the first step towards unburdening yourself. It doesn't mean she was right either. If possible, talk it over with her and break up with her if you haven't done that already. This is necessary because it will give you some closure and also help her heal emotionally cause you both need it. At my age, there are some things I've said or done in the past that still saddens me when I remember them today, but what makes me feel good is that I didn't go into denial and that I was able to talk it over with the people involved. Good thing you learned your lesson. Maybe you'll always remember this feeling when next you're provoked, and it'll help to deter you from doing it again.

Something I really need clarification about, why would a guy give a woman head and still go ahead to wear a condom to Bleep her, does the mouth produce a form of antibiotics we don't know about?

Probably because, though some STD's can be contracted through mouth action, it still carries little to no risk of getting or transmitting viruses like HIV or leading to pregnancy. Nevertheless, there are a lot of precautions that should be taken to make MouthAction safer.

That said, OP, you just wrote an unnecessary long epistle aiming at disparaging women as if men don't have STD's. If you really wanted to educate people, you could've simply told them to use condom with anyone that isn't thier monogamous partner and even with thier monogamous partner if it's the preferred method of contraception.

Romance / Re: My Girlfriend Made Me Beat The Hell Out Of Her. by etrange: 5:15pm On Dec 25, 2023
I don't understand. Why is it so hard for people to break up or give each other some space when things aren't working out between them? There's no kid or marriage tying you together, why would you keep staying with someone who is comfortable with hitting you? Why do you think beating her up was a better solution than sending her away? You're writing this epistle out of guilty conscience, and the truth is, no matter how much support you're able to gather on here, you'll always feel guilty cause the stain of being an abusive partner doesn't go away. Do not be deceived by those calling you a gentleman cause a gentleman wouldn't even share his house with an aggressive girlfriend.

That said, the only thing that would make you feel better is if you talk things over with her and part ways afterwards. You both need some form of closure. Be more discerning next time.

Happy Christmas!

Romance / Re: Should A Man Engage In Anal Sex To Receive Employment & Accommodation Benefit? by etrange: 8:54pm On Dec 22, 2023
Nairaland is back!

OP, you shouldn't trade your morals for money cause it'll haunt you later in life. I'm not saying this cause the man is gay as I honestly don't care about the gender anyone is having sex with, and I certainly don't want to know how many people anyone has slept with. However, how you feel about what you're doing is what really matters, not what Nairalanders think. It'd be a different thing if you were getting down with the said individual because you find him attractive and you both are consenting to having fun together or because you're in the business of prostitution. Having sex with him solely because you need this job will make you feel dehumanized/worthless. You'll keep thinking about it for a long time, and it might affect your mental health in the long run. The validation you seek here now will not help you then.

Again, this isn't about gay people. The so-called helper is not a nice person. He could easily get other people to sleep with, why exploit someone's bad situation? Shouldn't sex be fun for both parties? It hurts me to see people throw away thier morals for money. OP, follow your heart.

By the way, what happened to NL?

No. As a true believer in Jesus, a low and even trimming of the hair is acceptable without total balding or carving (shaping) of the edges of the head or beard. Anything more than this is condemnable according to the Bible. It may be a hard message but it is the truth my friend.

So God is a black African? Or maybe he has a different standard specifically for black Africans? Why can't you see that you're just viewing religion through the lens of your own culture?

Same thing. Food poisoning doesn't necessarily mean someone doctored the food. If it's as a result of germs or any other harmful thing in the food (maybe due to a dirty cooking environment), it's still considered food poisoning.

Sir, how is it you can't hear what he's been telling you for two years? Please, be discerning. Saying NO to relatives normally leads to family problems, so it's not uncommon for some people to let you know they can't lend you the money by thier action. Generally speaking, people don't lend out what they can't afford to lose especially when the borrower is a family member cause we all know the drama associated with getting one's money back from a family member. So your uncle may not be in a position to lose 600k at the moment. Being rich and being wealthy enough to have excess cash lying around to lend out are two different things. It's not as if you asked him to lend you anything he could. You specifically told him to lend you 600k cause you assumed he has it. That alone implies you may not appreciate his widow's might. So he decided not to engage at all. Get the message and move on with no bad blood.
