It’s safe to say that David Moyes’ first game against Everton as Manchester United manager didn’t exactly go to plan. Try as they may, United just couldn’t score and a 1-0 loss leaves United 12 points off the top of the Premier League. Following the loss, there were plenty of fans who immediately spat vitriol towards Moyes on any social media platform in what was a tirade of abuse in reaction to the result. On both the official Facebook account and The Peoples Person Facebook account, fans made their opinions abundantly clear – Moyes out. There is no denying that this year has not gone to plan so far but in the biggest season of transition at United, it is to be expected at least at the start. You simply cannot replace nearly three decades worth of experience at the helm of United and not have any teething problems. Just like Marouane Fellaini needs time to settle and find his feet at Old Trafford, so does Moyes. The squad that United have wasn’t built by Moyes, he inherited it and is yet to give it his own identity. That is something that will take time. Football has always worked in cycles and United are starting their cycle this season. We all know that the midfield is our weak point and so does Moyes. Even though he signed Fellaini, he failed to adequately strengthen but at least he tried with Ander Herrera and Cesc Fabregas. Patience is not a virtue in football but United fans need to have some. Results against Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen show what United can do under Moyes when it clicks but right now, that consistency hasn’t been found. Don’t jump on the bandwagon and slam Moyes at any given opportunity, he isn’t going anywhere. Scapegoats aren’t necessary after every loss, it’s always a collective effort. If he fails to make the top four, that may change but as of right now, some United fans need to stop acting so spoilt and remember that success is never guaranteed. Fans reactions dfan says: 12/05/2013 at 03:03 Rubbish, the fact that Man Utd management is still backing Moyes is starting to make them look STUPID!!! His substitutions during then Everton match shows his lack of tactical knowledge, had he taken Welbeck off for Hernandez instead of Kagawa, would have resulted in a goal for us when the header opportunity came our way, and the removal of Rafael instead of Giggs caused us the goal because Valencia is not a natural right back, instead he should have moved Valencia into the middle in place of Giggs and let either Nani or Janujaz take the right wing. Such a simple tactical move seems to elude Moyes, his substitutions cause our team to lose its attacking momentum and also destabilize the defense. Everyone seems to point to the middle as our problem which is rightly so, BUT a 40 year old Giggs is not the solution, instead Valencia would have provided better cover in the middle as he is used to playing in the middle for his country. This simple account should clearly highlight Moyes’s tactical deficiency, and the fact that he let Rene go is also another Big mistake. Reply John Tring (@JohnTring) says: 12/05/2013 at 03:40 Just because SAF tricked the Glazers into appointing DM doesn’t mean DM has a divine right to hang on and carry Utd down the drain. He’s been incompetent, naïve and it seems, to a lot of people, he doesn’t have the total backing of players. RVP clearly dislikes him, Rooney is playing well not because he likes him but surely to prove the old fogey wrong. Sadly, Utd’s decline is now well and truly underway and only SAF is responsible. HE BOUGHT RUBBISH PLAYERS and managed to install an unworthy guy as manager. Reply Sap says: 12/05/2013 at 04:52 Nani and Januzaj should be given more starts, they are positive players alongside Rooney, Kagawa, Valencia and the others but certainly not the beehive Fellaini…..just let him go… Reply Just a fan says: 12/05/2013 at 05:13 What has moyes done, besides show up to work on time, to deserve our unconditional support? We are 9th in the league and playing horribly. “But we beat arsenal and leverkusen!!!” Big fucking deal. Leverkusen stinks and Arsenal had 3 starters go home because illness swept their locker room. We won because we had a perfectly executed set piece from two world class players. We had 36% possession in that game and created 2 or 3 chances at the most. I will admit that I was so excited when we won but I am back to reality. Everything has gone to shit since moyes showed up. I was excited when we hired him because I liked what he was able to do with minimal talent at everton. Now he is managing quality players straight into the ground. “But this is SAF’s team and not moyes’ preferred players.” Adapt to what you have to work with. This same team + fellaini won the league last season and now every team in the league expects to beat us. If this team was not good enough for moyes, he had ALLLLLL summer to bring players in…but instead he sent clowns like phil neville out to list a bunch of united players and say (paraphrasing) “these guys are good!” and “we want to add quality to the side, not just bring in extra players.” Clearly these jokers thought that the team they had was good enough to win the league (they were until a new manager came in). We, as united fans, have every right to bitch and moan when our team is playing the way they are. We tune in to watch every game, buy shirts, subscribe to the teams websites, etc. Supporting gives us license to call them out on their bullshit. I call it how I see it. I am not going to sit around and patronize moyes until his contract expires and we are a lower half team with no talent because all of our great players left to win trophies for a manager they respect. If the 11 players on the field are all playing like shit, it is the fault of the manager. You fans up on your high horse that think you are so special because you have supported this club for X amount of years have been drinking the kool-aid for too long. Living in a fantasy world and pretending that the team is fine and moyes will get it sorted and we will find a way to win the league does not make you any better than those of us who are watching the game with unbiased eyes and living in the real world. We are calling out moyes because we love this club and we demand better. Allowing moyes to coach this team to play at such an embarrassing level and get away with it sets a new precedent. He needs to be ridiculed so that he understands that this is not acceptable at united. 9th place is never good enough with this club. There is too much quality in this team for any manager to screw up this badly. I can pick 11 names out of a bucket and get a result against these teams we are losing and drawing too. Clearly there is no motivation in the side to play hard and honorably. Moyes is setting the standard and it is not good enough. I am not saying “moyes out” but I am saying to pick it up 5 notches or go home and let me coach. Super Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi has on Monday morning ruled out any world cup plans for teenage sensation Kelechi Iheanacho stating that the player is still very young and needs to get involved in a proper team set up with a club. Iheanacho was adjudged the most valuable player of the 2013 edition of the FIFA U17 World cup in the UAE helping Nigeria in the process to win the tournament to become the most successful country in the history of the competition. “It’s not done; Iheanacho is a good player and he just finished with the U17 but he needs to be in a team for him to player regularly and gain league experience” “His performance at the U17 level is not a guarantee that he will be picked at the senior level, it just doesn’t work like that” Keshi exclusively told BrilaFm.net In a swift reaction, the midfielder's father, James Iheanacho says his son can surprise the world if included, despite his young age and inexperience. “I believe that if he moves to the senior team, he will surprise the world; they might say he is still young but playing football is in his blood” With many top European clubs hot on the heels of the player, a move abroad is on the cards for the young star player. http://www.brilafm.net/Exclusive--Keshi-rules-out-picking-Iheanacho-for-B/17874354

The planned sale of Nigeria's four refineries next year is a well-designed scam calculated to hand over the country's premium downstream assets to associates and fronts of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is also representing the financial interests of President Goodluck Jonathan in the deal, SaharaReporters can report. According to several senior officials at the ministry, four of the minister's friends have been penciled in to emerge as preferred bidders by “any means necessary” even as the Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE) has announced its readiness to commence the sales next year. Top on the list of the “preferred” buyers is Mr. Jide Omokore, the multi-billionaire PDP figure who has received numerous juicy deals since Ms. Alison- Madueke was made Minister of Petroleum Resources by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010. Mr. Omokore is the chairman of Energy Resources Group, whose subsidiary, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited, was involved in a highly scandalous operatorship take-over of the oil mining licenses (OMLs) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 2011. Mr. Omokore, whose private jet is regularly put at the disposal of Ms. Alison-Madueke (as do jets by her other fronts and associates), famously funded an obscene wedding in Dubai for his son, Oluwatosin, last June. Some estimates put the cost of the wedding, which was attended by state governors, ministers, senior civil servants, senators, former governors and political godfathers, at $10 million. Oluwatosin’s bride is Faisal AbdulKadir-Fari, a daughter of Ambassador Abdulkadir-Fari, then the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Another “preferred” buyer, Kola Aluko was also involved in the controversial OML operatorship deal through his company, Septa Energy, a subsidiary of Seven Energy. While Mr. Omokore's company got oil bloc numbers 26, 30, 34, and 42, Igho Salome's Taleveras got OMLs 4, 38 and 41. In the questionable deal, Shell divested its operatorship in the OMLs. By law, the ownership automatically reverted to the NNPC which manages oil assets on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria. At first, the NNPC had transferred its operatorship to its exploration subsidiary, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC). But in a curious twist, the NPDC said it did not have the financial resources to operate the OMLs. The group then organized a “strategic loan” deal with Atlantic Energy and Septa Energy to provide the funds. Under the questionable deal, Mr. Omokore and Mr. Aluko's companies were to receive crude oil allocation of over 40,000 barrels per day as “loan repayment.” An oil industry expert told SaharaReporters that the deal, which was officially called “strategic alliance and service contract,” will cost Nigerian taxpayers billions of dollars. Another NNPC insider told Sahara Reporters, “Where in the world would you own seven lucrative oil blocks and then claim you do not have the finances to operate them? Those are enormous bankable assets. There is no bank NPDC will approach in the world that will not jump at the opportunity to finance the operations. Remember these are not mere oil prospecting licenses (OPLs). They are OMLs. Oil had been found there. Shell had been producing oil from the wells. It only decided to relinquish its interest to focus on in its offshore wells.” Several of our sources questioned NPDC’s claim that it needed to bring in Atlantic Energy and Septa Energy to finance the production. “It all had to do with the minister’s financial stake,” said one of them, insisting that Ms. Alison-Madueke had a reputation for tailoring oil policies to benefit her pocket. “The same NNPC that claimed it could not secure the finances to operate the oil blocks later took out a loan of $1.6 billion to pay dubious debts owed to shady oil dealers,” another insider told Sahara Reporters, further highlighting how greedy and selfish government officials strangulate the country. He said the minister cannot come up with any satisfactory justification for her scandalous policy of mortgaging the country's oil assets to her friends. Meanwhile, our sources identified the other two “preferred” buyers for the refineries as Talevaras, a firm owned Mr. Igho Salome, and Sahara Energy, owned by the trio of Tonye Vole, Tope Osinubi and Ade Odunsi. Talevaras has increasingly come under the spotlight because of its sudden rise to prominence in Nigeria’s business scene. The firm was recently declared the “winner” of the bid for the Afam Power Plant, despite its lack of any experience in the power sector. The Afam Power Plc was among 18 assets of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) which were put up for privatization. Initially, none of the bids received for Afam Power Plc was deemed qualified. But the government suddenly announced Taleveras as the winners of the bid. “I can assure you that the same style will be adopted to hand over Nigeria’s refineries to the minister's fronts, usually referred to as preferred buyers,” an official of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources said. He continued, “It is not a coincidence that the minister went to announce to the whole world that the refineries would be sold first quarter next year even when there were no such plans disclosed to the BPE. It should be of interest you that the BPE made its own pronouncement a week after the minister's, just to rubber-stamp it. BPE indirectly exposed her plot when it said the process would commence first quarter next year, rather than the refineries being sold first quarter next year as pronounced by her.” Sahara Energy was also indicted in a report by a Swiss non-governmental organization, the Berne Declaration. The report revealed that Nigerian oil marketing companies perpetrated widespread subsidy fraud running into several billions of dollars. Titled “Swiss Traders’ Opaque Deals in Nigeria,” it also accused the NNPC of colluding with international oil traders to defraud Nigeria. The report revealed that Sahara Energy, Rahamaniyya Group, Aiteo Energy Resources Limited, Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Tridax Energy, Mezcor Limited and MRS Group had established subsidiaries, also called "letter-box" companies, in Geneva, Switzerland, with no real business activities. The report disclosed that these companies established the subsidiaries primarily for tax advantages, and also for easy access to international capital. But four of the companies, namely Sahara Energy, Rahamaniyya, Aiteo Energy and MRS, were investigated by the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee and cleared in a widely discredited report that culminated in the infamous $620,000 bribery scandal involving the chairman of the House probe committee, Farouk Lawan, and billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola. According to the Swiss NGO report, the opaque partnership between NNPC and the Swiss oil traders ensures that the profit generated escapes state coffers. Describing this as “not trivial,” the report stated: “By way of example, in 2011 the amount withheld from state coffers came to $8.739 billion. The public coffers were directly penalized. The same year, the revenues from oil fell by 39 per cent against the amount budgeted. And this is despite a rise in the price of oil.” http://mobile.saharareporters.com/news-page/how-diezani-alison-madueke-plans-sell-refineries-fronts

Karen Igho, ex-Big Brother Africa winner has dumped hre Nigerian passport for British citizenship. The controversial reality show star announced this via her Twitter handle @karenigho this morning and invited all her friends for a drink in her home. “I just became a citizen of the UK…I’m so happy…Drinks for everyone,” she tweeted in the early hours of today alongside a provoking bikini photo. While announcing her good news of procuring the British red passport, Karen did not reveal how her application for the United Kingdom citizenship sailed through. P.M.NEWS learnt that among the processes through which immigrants could become a British citizen include marriage, British parents or the most common, settling in Britain. But Karen has been living in the UK for many years before she won the Big Brother Africa competition. And with her British red passport, she can travel almost everywhere in the world. Karen won the 2011 Big Brother Africa’s amplified edition. She is arguably one of the most controversial but loveable Nigerian celebs on the scene. She is an actress and on-air personality with Lagos-based Naija FM Radio. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/11/21/karen-igho-dumps-nigeria-for-british-citizenship/

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has vowed to arrest and prosecute Mr. Michael Ekundayo, an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, caught on video collecting N8,000 bribe from a motorist and is now on the run. The governor also banned children and others from skating on the highways, saying that anyone caught violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted according to the dictates of the law. Fashola, who spoke at the Blueroof Hall, Lagos Television Complex, Agidingbi in Ikeja, Lagos, western Nigeria on Tuesday before a gathering of professionals and respectable members of the society who constitute volunteers of the Special Traffic Mayors, also called for the abolishment of the Federal Housing Authority, FHA. The governor said the LASTMA official caught negotiating bribe inside a citizen’s car had brought disgrace to the outfit and would be hunted down and prosecuted. “I want to first salute the citizen that got the video of the LASTMA officer who was caught negotiating bribe inside a citizen’s car. We must all nail and shame him and we must all use that kind of medium to fish out all the bad eggs in the society and bring them to justice. “That LASTMA officer is still on the run and we have declared him wanted. I can assure you today that we will get him. And as soon as we do, we will give him all his rights and he will have his day in court,” he vowed. On skating, Fashola said he noticed that the youths had also taken to skating because the road is safe, saying government was not going to discourage them but that they should do that in designated places like recreation centres, stadia and others. “They cannot skate on the highways. It is a violation of the traffic law 2010. I implore all parents to call their children and their wards to order because any child found skating on the highway will be arrested and will be brought to justice. It must stop today. Skating on the highways has to stop now. The danger is too much and it is the responsibility of the government to safe lives,” he stated. On the position of the government concerning road development in FESTAC Town, Fashola explained that the state government was having an issue with the Federal government, pointing out that the taxes and land charges being collected by the FHA were being sent to Abuja. “I have said that the Federal Housing Authority is an anathema to the current constitution. The Federal Government does not own land, so, I don’t see how it can have a housing authority. But it was created during the military and now that we are in a civilian dispensation, as I made a case on Saturday when we were in Sokoto, this is one of the laws that the National Assembly should simply amend or repeal to bring them in conformity with the current dispensation,” he said. On LASTMA, the governor pointed out that its primary responsibility was to keep the state traffic moving, stressing that “this is the reason why the agency exists. Arresting traffic offenders is secondary. If making an arrest will increase the traffic, let the offenders go. I say this not because I don’t want law breakers to be apprehended and brought to justice. But law breakers cannot undermine our main objective. “The longer people stay more in traffic, the more money is wasted and fuel are burnt and when people stay more in traffic, this leads to increase in the price of goods in the state. But with a moving traffic, price of goods will be stable.” Fashola explained that the challenge of managing traffic in Lagos State necessitated the need for the meeting with the Special Traffic Mayors, while stressing the need to pay attention to road safety measures for the betterment of all. “Over the last few days, we have begun to experience traffic gridlock within the state. There are couples of factors that we all must be aware. We promised to address inner roads and at the moment we have commenced work on 200 inner roads in the state. It shouldn’t be surprising that the construction is causing traffic in the state because these are areas where people are already living especially on Joel Ogunnaike, Kodesho and others. “The access to those roads will definitely be impaired. That is part of the problem. Also, we are getting closer to the Christmas and New Year. At this time, there is heavy movement of people at the same time on the road,” he explained. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/11/20/fashola-bans-skating-on-expressway/ |
