Be sure that the university you've applied to, has Turkish accreditation. A friend did not get his visa for this reason, with some of these newer universities.

Exactly one year ago, I co-founded a student Non-Governmental Organisation in North Cyprus called Voices of International Students in Cyprus (VOIS Cyprus). Cyprus is an amazing place, and as with several other places, has issues that could be improved, as such, this platform was aimed at enabling students voice out their experiences, as well as to serve as a bridge towards bringing locals and foreigners even closer.

On this note, we were approached by a Nigerian Michael Saliu, who is under dialysis for both of his kidneys and needs help with staying alive. If you would wish to support him in any way, please check out the Facebook post on the official VOIS Cyprus page: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=810652729294885&id=571975636495930

We have started a GoFundMe campaign for him. Please, donate to save his life: https://www.gofundme.com/help-save-michaels-life?member=1656130

In just one year, VOIS Cyprus, has achieved a lot through pacific means and dialogue with key stakeholders in society, and with several ministries of the government in the TRNC.

We are also accepting applications for the TRNC scholarships for international students already studying in the TRNC. Our second collaboration with the ministry of education. We have done our best to contribute to bettering and informing the international student population of the TRNC.

But today, I'm here to solicit with anyone who's willing to contribute whatever you can to help keep Michael alive.

Below is his story:

_____________________________________________________

Michael Mohammed Saliu is a Nigerian citizen living in the Northern part of Cyprus. He is 33 years old.

In September of 2018, Michael was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure. He currently undergoes dialysis treatment three times a week at the Famagusta General Hospital (North Cyprus). The cost of the weekly dialysis treatment is 750TL ($145).

Dialysis is the process of removing excess water, solutes, and toxins from the blood in people whose kidneys can no longer perform these functions naturally. The dialysis treatment is the only thing keeping Michael alive. However, he cannot afford the weekly treatments which his life so depends on.

Michael’s father is a retired military man in Nigeria, and his mother teaches in a primary school (she is also approaching retirement age). His parents are poor and cannot afford the money to pay for his weekly treatments. So far, his friends and nurses have been paying for his treatment.

At the end of December, Michael’s friends reached out to VOIS Cyprus for assistance. Having explored a few options available to us with no success, we decided along with Michael and his friends to solicit help from all of humanity via a GofundMe account. The purpose of this campaign is threefold:

1) To raise money for the dialysis treatment which he needs weekly. Each week he needs $145. We are unable to ascertain for how long this will continue.

2) To raise money for a kidney transplant operation. Kidney transplant operations have varying costs. Following advice from doctors, we checked the price of kidney transplants in India. The cost ranges from $10,000 and above depending on the skill and experience of the surgeon, hospital charges, cost of medicines and other consumables, as well as the duration of hospital stay.

3) A kidney donor.

Michael is a kind hearted man who had just begun his graduate studies in electrical engineering . He just wants to lead a normal life; go to school, get a job, visit his friends and family, take of his parents, fall in love, and walk the beautiful streets of Famagusta at night.

thesicilian:
Her heart was not broken when a 20yr old shot and killed 20 children in Sandy Hook Elementary School right there in the USA where she lives. Or when a teenager killed 3 and injured 2 in Ohio. Or after several other mass shootings in theatres and schools. It is what is happening in far away Nigeria that is breaking her heart.
She should go and sit somewhere with her NGO that is only interested in scamming government and rich citizens under the pretence of helping out the less privileged.

The boy-child gets wiser and smarter in reasoning as he grows. But the girl-child (women generally) remain with the reasoning and sense of a child even as they grow into young and elderly females. Anyone can observe and confirm this nature's truth from daily interactions, the above explains why more training attention should be accorded to a female child.

Only a true feminist would not hate men and the benefits they enjoy. She would take on the challenges that men take too, do everything men do and not talk bla bla bla everywhere about gender discrimination...

you still don't get it.

You still seeing things from a feminist point of view.

But I can't help you, life is choice

How many good boys have impregnated another lady?

How many good girls get pregnant?

Have you also noticed that good girls get pregnant to terrible boys?

If a good boy impregnates a lady, trust me 95% of such ladies are good too.
But good girls roll with bad boys, an issue that needs to be solved

Your dad raise you as a strong lady and that has contributed to why you have not messed up, if he was soft on you, the chances that you will mess up is high.

As I de no I no fit marry any lady that wants to be a house wife ooo

I wanna marry a strong lady, I don't have time to sissies who want to be petted all the time.

I want to fly to China for board meetings while my wife flies to Dubai to meet other business partners.

I hope u get it now.

It's you who doesn't get it. You are still wallowing in the mindset that feminists are out to get you. I admire the second part of your comment, but I need you to reconsider the first part. Life happens to everyone. Home training isn't what keeps you alive, but personal conviction. Don't steer away from the point of my comment. Raise your kids the way they should go. Not raise them as though you are preparing them for someone else. Teach them to be good persons.

Society keeps making the mistake of grooming girls alone, but forget we are male and female in this world of existence. It's like telling the police to do their jobs of catching criminals and not doing the other part of orientation of such individuals to restrain from stealing to begin with. If you keep raising girls to not mess up, and you're not raising boys the proper way, I'm sorry you're only pouring water on stones.

All over media, I keep hearing about women should this, and that, how did things become so complicated? Women are blamed for every single thing in this world, even to the extent of being blamed for getting cheated on. Silly things along this line. Nobody here is hating on men, I don't think any man is better than me due to gender. I believe in fair games. I train myself to aspire for things I qualify for, and I do not subscribe to the mentality that I deserve things solely because I am a woman.

Don't be sentimental, I grew up relating and caring for my cousins.

The difference is clear, ladies need more attention else they mess up and disgrace their families.

This is different from not training properly.

Lol. Else they mess up and disgrace the family, you say. I thought that messing up took two to tango. How many pregnancies have young boys been responsible for and denied it? Everybody needs home training. He can do what he wants with his family. But me, my sons will understand that in this life there's more to it than being a man's man. Marriage is not for everyone. Many people might pass away before they reach marrying age, for instance. I have a father who raised me to be a strong young lady, I have not messed up, and never intend to. Feminists are not your enemy. Just as there are classes of liberalism, there are classes of feminists. I am a graduate of a university today because women in the past fought and died for the privilege I enjoy, God forbid that we let out future daughters suffer scourge for the reason of being female.

"Obinna!" Tunde's high-pitched voice sounded from the other room in the 2-bedroom apartment, where they squatted with 4 other boys. It was summer again, and time to hustle since the boys had managed to pay their spring semester tuition through their noses.

"Yes!?" Came Obinna's sharp response from the kitchen. The hunger that had woken him up from sleep that morning seemed to have eaten through his patience for chit-chats.

"I received a call from your mother, it seems you're finally coming home for the summer. Lucky idiot." Tunde told him approaching the kitchen. Obviously, Obinna's phone had been damaged since forever, and despite all efforts to repair the dying phone, it became clear that the device was ready to join its ancestors.

"Be serious, Tunde!" Obinna yelled. "I'll call her through a pay-phone to ascertain what the processes would be and ask her to chat me up through your line." He continued as soon as Tunde flashed the smartphone right in his face. The scene didn't end with Obinna having the food he had just prepared to himself, because before he could let the pot off from the fire, three other boys had appeared from nowhere to devour the content in the poor pot.

In one week's time, Obinna was soon on his way to Nigeria, with the little belongings he could gather to keep up appearances with back home. Since he couldn't find credible work over there in Cyprus, the PlanB was to make sure maga paid, in the form of students who were keen on studying abroad. Who said God wasn't good? It was especially graduation period at that time in Nigeria.

Coming home to a house left half-constructed by his father, due to the demanding cost of education for Obinna and 5 other children, Obinna had to settle right in whilst planning his moves. The idea came upon him on one of the Sundays, when he just got out of his church clothes. Thus, on that very day, he paid a visit to a student fellowship he had long abandoned years before he traveled. It was his crookedness that led him to flee from the South of Cyprus, without a proper graduation. It is believed that after the chicken farts, it runs from the wrath of the earth.

"Praise God! We have a brother in our midst today, who would like to speak to some of you about scholarship opportunities in Turkey. See him after this service." The announcement came from the Chapter President, and a resounding stare from the congregation of students on an Obinna who was sleekly dressed to impress and out to kill. Of course, the plan worked brilliantly, because curious Nigerian students ran to him after the program, and established contact because he had promised them he was an agent that could guarantee scholarships for about 20 students to universities in the TRNC.

The unsuspecting individuals flocked like bees to Obinna's house on a regular, and he was going to move to Turkey as soon as he gathered enough money to discard North Cyprus, but he said he was personally going to accompany them. He was not going to wait around to become meat to the about-to-be magas and past ones that were loosely waiting around for his return.

As the days went by, the list of interested individuals grew lesser and lesser. To Obinna, the lesser the list, the easier it was to dance skiboroboskibo with their money. All along, because of the fact that few people knew the history of Cyprus as a country, Obinna's words were too sweet to the ears, that many were cajoled into believing North Cyprus was some city in Turkey; an extension.

The first round of cash rolled in through the form of admission application fees for Eastern Mediterranean University, which was against the school's policies. He knew many students would opt for direct admissions rather than gamble with the factor of non-qualification for the Turkiye Burslari Program.

"Ikenna, maga is paying small-small oo. Who teach me Turkish, but see as I use the cut-and-join one I sabi dey chop their brain." Obinna had told his brother one day. The next rounds of cash blessed Obinna's hands in the form of Agent fees. This was a legit thing with working through agencies for admission, even though the University also paid these agents; but he was a wolf in sheep's clothing who had endeared himself to the parents of these poor students. Under the guise of friendship, and with a brand new account, he siphoned this cash and went ahead to apply with an agent whom he paid merely half of this amount to. All these while, he acted like negotiator who had struck a cheaper deal, and filled the heads of the poor victims with super-stories about Cyprus, and how there was snow and trains everywhere.

To cut a long story short, it was travel time, and Obinna fell mysteriously ill with Malaria, Typhoid,
Hepatitis and what have you. Only one person! There's no need to explain how things finally ended. Obinna's shaking body never stopped, and these poor victims traveled to North Cyprus. A disclaimer would be that the University was oblivious to the abominations being carried out by these Yahoo Association of Students, since their deal ended with settling their certified Agents.

Obinna no later ever show again for North Cyprus and left for a fresh start in Turkey! The excuse was school fees problem and visa wahala. Unsuspecting parents and sympathizers assisted him in these areas, to ensure he joined their kids as soon as possible. Tunde took over, by picking them from the airport on arrival, and made sure they joined him in the barracks of an apartment he lived in. For the next few weeks, Tunde and the boys lived off these newly-arrived students like royalty. If the readers could imagine any possible ploys to swindle, Tunde did all these to the point of pretending rented cars were taxis and making them pay in dollars for short distances, and even procuring an apartment of which he moved in with two of them. They bled through their noses, trying to pay for the apartment at the price Tunde had communicated, and lived in hell for a year. Was it a case of 'one day for the thief, ninety-nine days for the owner of the house'? I guess we'd never know!

Anyone that is slapped can sue for assault. What you see as favoritism against men is actually fair treatment.

True. For example, I might have different sets of close friends. I watch a snap and see them in a fancy dinner with other close friends, there is no need to throw a tantrum. They also have a life outside the friendship we have. I cannot expect to be invited to all of their business. This applies to this situation.

Mikel sometimes looks like he's trying hard to fit in and belong. Nothing wrong with that but she doesn't seem to be making the same effort with his people. Or the naija people no like foto? Granted, family lunches don't have to include the 2 families.Just that it would be nice to see his people included in some of their pictures. You never do. It would be nice to see her in our own setting too. Doesn't he have any family in Europe?
Anyway if you put your pictures in social media, you're inviting comments. They won't always be what you want to hear. Enough busy-body from me. grin

Actually it is none of our business. How many of their family lunches have you witnessed to know how they conduct their affairs? Too bad we cannot snap out of our slavery mentality. Only someone who has inferiority complex will have a problem with the picture. Typical Nigerians don't do the family lunch thing. So because she is involved with Mikel, her own family seizes to be her family anymore?

All of you should continue having headache for something that isn't worth it. Mikel seems happy. Many of the complaints come from people who have not crossed the border nor have non-African friends and acquaintances. The sooner we pursue the things that make us happy in life, the better for you.
