I woke up early around 5a.m. It had been a while since I last prepared breakfast for the family. I had my bath and dressed up in a blue chiffon top and red fitting skirt with a slit at the back.
I went to the kitchen and stood for a few minutes thinking hard. I had no idea what to prepare for breakfast. I waited for daybreak before going to the small market close by. I instructed the gate man to tell them I went to the market in case they woke up and asked him of my whereabouts.
The market was a bit full because it was Saturday. I bought goat meat,scent leaf and a few other ingredients to prepare pepper soup and rice.
By the time I got back,only mum was awake. I persuaded to allow me handle breakfast alone so she just sat in the kitchen with me giving all the relationship advice she could lay her hands on. Rachel should have been with me but she didn't stay till the end of the party before she left for Calabar.
I prepared the food and set the table. Daddy Liam and Jason came down for breakfast. It almost felt like those breakfasts dad, my late mum,Jason and I used to enjoy. Before a tear could slip from my eye,I shifted my thoughts to something more fascinating. I thought of my new relationship with Niel and I caught myself smiling more than once.
"Mum, I have a question for you." Jason said.
"What is it child?"
"I'm 18 na mummy. Don't be calling me child again mbok."
She laughed and so did daddy Liam "I have no strength to argue with you this morning Jason."
"Anyway,time for my question. Does someone who's in love smile unusually?"
My head shot up at the question.
"Why are you asking this kind of question Jason?" Dad asked, looking my direction and struggling hard to stifle a laugh.
"Well, it's 'cause Mille has been smiling helplessly since we sat on this table."
I narrowed my eyes at Jason. "What is your problem Jay?"
"Cool down sis. I'm only happy for you."
Dad and mum had already burst out laughing.
"Mum? Won't you defend me?" I asked. I was almost laughing with them but I maintained.
"Ah! Baby girl. All the points in your defense have all run away from the universe." She continued laughing.
"You guys have tried for me ehn." I finally gave in to the laughter.
"I'll go back tomorrow after service." Jason announced when the laughter had died down.
"Good riddance. I won't miss you." I said.
"Mum,dad,this lady enjoys deceiving herself. She'll be the same person calling me day and night as if she'll die when she doesn't hear my voice."
"Shut up jare" I retorted.
After breakfast,I stayed with Jason. It was only when he received a call from Kara that I remembered my phone was still at Niel's. It was already few minutes to 11 a.m.
I used Jay's phone to call Gloria.
"Hello Gloria."
"Mille,is that you?"
"Yeah yeah. How far my phone na?"
"You better come and carry your phone o."
"Haba na. You sef can't you be good for once? Ehn Gloria?"
"Stay there and wait for phone."
"Okay. Could you give Niel the phone to bring it over?"
"Niel is still sleeping. We slept late last night."
"And you're awake before him. Okay,I guess I'll come over then. I know that's what you want."
"Of course babe. See ya." She ended the call.
"I guess I have to go there Jay. You coming?" I asked Jay who was typing away on the laptop.
"I don turn your chaperone abi? I should follow you to your boyfriend's house. Thanks but I'll pass. Have fun."
"Naughty boy." I left the room.
I informed mum and dad I was leaving to Niel's place. After enough teasing,they let me go. As I reached the gate,I remembered there was a human called Elliot in the house. I prayed silently that he had gone out.
"Welcome o." The gate man greeted.
"Thank you sir."
"I don tell you sey make you no dey call me sir."
"My bad. Sorry." I almost said 'sir' again.
The Gloria I know would unlock the front door whenever she knew I was coming over. As expected,the door wasn't locked so I walked in.
"Gloria,I'm here. Niel?" I yelled as I ascended the stairs.
"Hi Mille." The first door opened.
As I was about to say something,the second door opened as well.
"Hi Mille."
"What the heck!" I exclaimed. How was I supposed to know which was Niel? Gloria came out of her room only for her to burst out laughing.
"Choose this day which of these is your Niel." She raised her hands like a witch about to cast an evil spell.

I may not be able to update today. Lots of things to be done over here. I apologise from the depth of my heart

I heard the gate open downstairs. I peeped through my window and saw it was Jathniel. I heaved a sigh of relief as I sat on the bed. I expected him to come to my room in few minutes but he never showed up.
I went to his room and knocked.
"Come in mum."
"How'd you know it was me" I said as I entered the room.
"I saw you peeping from your window. I wanted to come to your room but I got lost in thoughts."
"It's okay son. Where'd you go to with Mille?"
"I took her home. We had to talk."
"About?"
"Mum,stop investigating my life like this na. The one you're supposed to investigate,you'll leave to go scot free."
"Jathniel,what's that supposed to mean?"
"I'm sorry mum. I need time for my brain to boot."
"Have you told Mille?"
"Told Mille what?" He asked feigning ignorance.
"You know what I mean son. I'm advising you as your mother Jathniel,tell her about it. The sooner,the better. Have you heard me?"
"Yeah." He laid down and closed his eyes.
"Good night son."
"Good night mum and please as you're heading to his room,you should try to keep your voices down. Some of us want to sleep."
I turned off the light and left the room. Jathniel was fond of guessing my next move all the time. He knew I was going to Elliot's room as I always did before he disappeared. His room was the last place I always visited before going to bed.
On getting there,I knocked but no one answered. I assumed he was in the bathroom only to meet him in my room when I got back.
"I went looking for you Elliot in your room."
"Sorry mum. I came here when you went to Jathniel's room."
"Come here. I've missed you."
"Missed you too mum."
"How've you been? You still look pretty much the same."
"I've been alright mum. Been moving between Lagos and South Africa."
"Why is that?"
"I got a job in Lagos as a programmer. It takes me to South Africa most of the time."
"I see. You got really established then. Hope it's going well."
"Yeah. Of course."
"So how come you remembered us all of a sudden?"
"Mummy! I missed you all so much. I lost my phone and all your contacts. That's why you haven't heard from me all this while."
"Aw my baby. I missed you so. When are you bringing her home?"
"Who?"
"The woman you want to marry of course. Jathniel has made his move on his own girl. I'm waiting for yours."
"Sooner than you expect mum. Let me show you her pictures."
He brought out his phone from his pocket and showed me her pictures.
"She doesn't look Nigerian to me." I remarked.
"That's true. She's South African. Won't you love a foreign Daughter-in-law ?"
"Of course I would. She's really beautiful. I hope her heart is as beautiful as her face."
"Yes mum. Our court wedding is in two weeks."
"Two weeks?"
"Yes mum."
"Son, I don't even know her and you want to marry her?"
"Mum,trust me. She's been tested over and over. We've been together for two years."
He went on and on till he finally persuaded me to support him. We talked long into the night.


Jathniel

Immediately mum left my room,I called Mille but she wasn't picking.
Next thing I knew,Gloria ran into my room,turned on the light and bounced on me.
"Don't you know how to knock?" I queried.
"Leave me jor. Don't I get to do one crazy thing on my birthday?" She replied.
"Suit yourself madam birthday. What are you doing here?"
"I just felt like coming to stay with you."
"So you love me like this?"
She rolled her eyes "Error bro. I just came to tell you I'm with Mille's phone."
"What?!"
"Yeah. I forgot to send it to her through Jason. I've called him anyway and I told her I'm still with it. She'll come get it tomorrow morning so relax lover boy and stop calling."
"I feel like strangling you Gloria."
"Eya,sorry. I forgot to tell you something."
"If you say rubbish Gloria,I will fling you out the window."
She laughed "Elliot got me a necklace as a birthday present."
"Fantastic! So why'd you tell me?"
"I don't know. I just felt like. Will you pardon me for saying what I'm about to say?"
"Do I have a choice?" I asked back.
"Well, I don't approve of his coming back. I feel there's something creepy about it."
"Don't say that Gloria. He's your brother too. He even went the extra mile to get you a present. He loves you."
"Then why were you too arguing?" She asked.
"Some things are better left unsaid Gloria. Just know that he means well okay?"
"Alright bro. Good night." She hugged me.
"Good night Gloria."
I couldn't believe I said all that. Elliot and I may have our differences but I wouldn't paint him black to Gloria. Never!
