At times i begin to doubt the existence of God. When is life so biased?
Why are some rich, some poor?
Some ugly, some beautiful?
Some work so hard and gain nothing. Some don't even work at all and gain everything.
Some do suffer all through their lives, no one to love them
Why? Why? If our God is a partial God then why is life so cruel to some and so nice to others.

People are asking me why my books are mostly focused on horror and the spiritual world?
Its a deep secret. cheesy cheesy wink cheesy
But so you know, most things i write in those Books is what is actually going on in the dark world so don't joke with my Books.
Many have gifts but they can't unlock It because they haven't truly discovered themselves.

When i started writing ''A man Who sees Ghosts' i didn't expect the story to be this long but as i wrote, the more the ideas kept coming. Many spiritual people are patronizing me for that book

*CHAPTER 9: AFTERMATH*

Two days later. The hospital room smelled of disinfectant and rain.

The door opened and *DPO BELLO* walked in with two other officers. He was holding a file and a small box.

"Joseph." DPO Bello smiled. "Town owes you again."
Joseph shifted on the bed, wincing. "Just doing my job, sir."
"Doing your job?" Bello laughed and set the file on the bed. "You and your team stopped a 300-year-old witch from turning this whole town into a graveyard. Again."

He opened the box. Inside was a medal and a letter.
"By order of the Commissioner, you’re being promoted to Special Consultant. And this... is for gallantry."

Joseph looked at the medal but didn’t touch it.
"Owes us, sir. Dessa and Salome did most of it. I was knocked out halfway through the fight."
Bello’s smile softened. "Noted. I’ll make sure their names go in the report too. The town needs to know it wasn’t just one man."

The officers saluted and left.

After some few days, Joseph went to Dessa’s shrine.

The candles were already lit. Dessa was sweeping the floor, her arms still bandaged.

She looked up when she heard footsteps. "You’re supposed to be resting."
"I am." Joseph sat down on the mat across from her. "DPO Bello gave me a promotion."

Dessa raised an eyebrow. "And?"
"And I told him I couldn’t have done it without you."

Silence. Only the sound of rain on the zinc roof.

Joseph sighed. "Thank you, Dessa. For the book. For the bar. For the graveyard. For not letting me die."
Dessa stopped sweeping. She walked over and sat beside him.

"Tired. But yeah. It’s over."
Joseph looked at her scars, then at her smile.
"Until the next call."
Dessa bumped his shoulder. "Then we answer it. Together."

Outside, the sun was coming up over the town. Quiet again. For now.

*CHAPTER 7: THE CHURCH*

Sunday. Grace Cathedral. 9:15AM.
The choir was on their 3rd song. Hands were lifted. The fans were spinning.

Joseph and Dessa pushed through the ushers at the door.
"Father, I’m begging you. Cancel service." Joseph said to the Pastor in his office.
The Pastor, in full white robe, frowned. "Young man, do you know who I serve? No demon can enter God’s house."
"This one can." Dessa said, her voice shaking. "Please. Send them home."
"My God is stronger than all evil. We are not afraid."

They had no choice. They sat in the back pew and watched.

Halfway through the sermon, the lights flickered.
The air went cold. The smell of iron filled the church.

The big wooden doors slammed open. BANG.

Silence.

The Mother stood in the doorway.
Black dress soaked as if she walked through rain. Hair dripping down her back. In her hand she held something wet and red.

The choir stopped mid-note.

"Your God isn’t here." Her voice was calm. Too calm.

She walked down the aisle. Slow.
The first row of women started praying in tongues.
The Mother raised one hand.

Three men in the front row clutched their chests and fell. Dead.
A woman screamed. The Mother turned to her and flicked her wrist. The woman’s head snapped to the side.

"Jesus! Jesus!" The Pastor shouted, holding up his Bible. "In the name of Jesus, I command you—"
The Mother laughed. A low, wet sound.
She waved her hand and the Bible flew from his hands and burst into flames.

Panic.
People ran for the doors. The doors wouldn’t open. She had locked them.
Children were crying under pews.

*JOSEPH:* "Dessa, the sides!"
He ran left, throwing fire to burn a path through the pews.
Dessa ran right, water exploding from the baptismal font. She made a wall of water and dragged 8 people behind it.

"Get out! Crawl! Go!" Dessa yelled.

The Mother saw them and smiled.
"So you’re here to watch."

She raised both hands. The ceiling cross cracked. Pieces of plaster fell.
She sent a pulse of black energy down the middle aisle.
10 people dropped where they stood.

Joseph dove and covered a mother and her baby with his body. The blast hit his back. He screamed.
Dessa threw a spear of water at the Mother.
The Mother caught it, turned it to steam, and sent it back. It burned Dessa’s arm.

*THE MOTHER:* "You killed my daughters. Now I take yours."
She pointed at a group of teenage girls huddled together.

Joseph didn’t think. He ran.
He grabbed 3 of them and rolled behind the pulpit as the Mother’s blast tore through where they were sitting.

Dessa was pulling people out through a broken window at the back.
"Move! Move! Don’t look back!"

The Pastor was on his knees, praying loud, tears on his face.
"Lord, please, Lord—"
The Mother walked to him.
She lifted him by his robe.
*THE MOTHER:* "Where is your God now, priest?"

Joseph threw everything he had. A fireball.
The Mother turned at the last second. The fire hit her shoulder instead of the Pastor. She dropped him and hissed.

That was enough.
Dessa grabbed the Pastor and 4 elders and pulled them through the window.

By the time the smoke cleared, 12 members were dead in the pews. Bodies everywhere. Blood on the white tiles.

The Mother stood in the middle of it, breathing in. Like she was drinking the fear.
She looked at Joseph and Dessa, both bleeding, both exhausted.

*THE MOTHER:* "One more place. Then I’ll come for you."
She turned to smoke. The smoke poured up through the broken roof and was gone.

Sirens wailed outside.

Dessa sat on the floor, holding the Pastor who was shaking.
Joseph knelt beside a little girl and closed her eyes.

Dessa whispered: "They didn’t believe us either."
Joseph: "Then the graveyard will."

*CHAPTER 8: THE FINAL BATTLE*
At Night. Dessa was pale.
"This is it. If she finishes here, she can’t be killed."
"So how?"
"Water beats fire. Death beats life. I need Salome. From Ores. Another water goddess. Together we can drown her."

They traveled all night.
"You want me to fight a 300-year-old witch? For free?" Salome asked.
"For the children she’ll kill tomorrow."
Salome sighed. "Fine. For the town."

The next day. At Midnight 12AM. Graveyard. Fog rolled in thick, swallowing the tombstones. The air smelled of wet earth and rot.

"I really hate graveyards." Joseph whispered, clutching the charm around his neck.
"Stay behind us." Dessa said. Her eyes glowed faint blue. Beside her, Salome lifted her hands and the ground under her feet turned to mud.

The earth shook.
Cracks split open across the graveyard. From the biggest grave, black smoke poured out like ink.
The Mother rose.

She was taller now. Her black dress dragged on the ground and her hair floated as if underwater. Her eyes were pits. When she opened her mouth, the sound of a hundred dead people screamed out.

"You brought friends? Good. More blood." She smiled.

She clapped once.
The ground exploded. Dead hands burst from every grave. Corpses crawled out, eyes white, mouths stitched with black thread. Spirits wailed and circled them like vultures.

The Mother pointed at Joseph. A bolt of black lightning shot from her fingers.
Joseph threw up both hands. A wall of gold fire met it. The impact shook the graves.
"Joseph, left!" Dessa screamed.

A dead spirit lunged at him. Joseph spun, drew a line in the air with his charm, and the spirit burned to ash.

The Mother laughed and raised her arms. The sky turned red.
"Blood for blood!"
She sent 5 spirits at Salome.
Salome slammed her palms to the ground. Water erupted in a circle around her, slicing the spirits in half. The water turned black with their rot.

"She’s feeding on them!" Dessa shouted. "Every spirit she kills makes her stronger!"

The Mother dashed forward, faster than smoke. She struck Dessa in the chest.
Dessa flew back and crashed into a tombstone.
"DESSA!" Joseph roared.

He charged. His hands burned white.
"By the ancestors, BURN!"
He threw a spear of fire.
The Mother caught it, crushed it, and threw it back. It hit Joseph’s shoulder. He screamed and was thrown 10 feet into a marble statue. He hit the ground and didn’t move.

Joseph’s eyes rolled back. Unconscious.

The Mother turned to Dessa and Salome, licking blood from her fingers.
"Two water rats. How cute."

She raised both hands. The dead rose faster. 20 of them. 30.
They came from all sides.

Dessa got to her feet, blood on her lips. She looked at Salome.
*SALOME:* "Now?"
*DESSA:* "Now. Or we all die here."

They stood back to back in the center of the graveyard.

Dessa raised her hands to the sky. Salome slammed hers into the earth.
The air went cold.

*BOTH:* "BY THE RIVERS OF OUR MOTHERS! BY THE WATERS THAT BIRTHED US! BY THE RAIN THAT CLEANSES THE WORLD!"

Dessa’s eyes turned completely white. Salome’s veins glowed blue.
The ground trembled.

From the river 2 streets away, water roared. It broke its banks.
From the sky, clouds ripped open. Rain fell like knives.
From the earth beneath them, geysers of water exploded upward.

A 20ft wave rose behind them, shaped like two women.

The Mother screamed and threw everything she had. Black fire, dead spirits, curses.
The wave ate it all.

*"DROWN THIS EVIL!"*

The wave crashed.
It swallowed the Mother first. She thrashed, clawing at the water, but it filled her mouth, her eyes, her lungs.
It swallowed the spirits. Their screams bubbled and died.
It washed over the graves, cleaning them.

For 10 seconds the whole graveyard was underwater.
Then... silence.
The water sank into the ground and disappeared.

Only wet mud remained. And in the center, the Mother.
On her knees. Choking. Shrinking.
Her black dress turned to dust. Her long hair turned gray and fell out.
She looked up at Dessa one last time.
"You... will not..."
Then she collapsed into ash. The wind took her.

Dessa dropped to her knees, gasping. Salome caught her before she fell.
Across the graveyard, Joseph groaned and opened his eyes.

It was over.

Joseph woke up in the hospital.

*THE MOTHER*
(They killed the daughters. Now the mother has come for blood.)

*CHAPTER 1: IT IS NOT OVER*

Three weeks after the Queen of Shadows died, the town was quiet again.

Joseph sat on his balcony with a cup of tea going cold in his hands. No sirens. No shouting in the streets. No midnight knocks on his door.
For the first time in years, he thought maybe it was really over.

His phone vibrated on the small table.

He picked it up. "Hello?"
"Joseph. It’s me."

"We have a very big problem here," says DPO BELLO

"I thought we were done with problems," Joseph said.

A pause. Then: "Come to Royal Hotel. 6th floor. Now.
And bring whatever you used last time."
The line went dead.

Joseph arrives at Royal Hotel. At the 6th Floor. Police tape everywhere. Officers standing around with faces that said they didn’t understand what they were looking at.
Down in the parking lot, covered by a white sheet, was a body.

Inside room 612, a woman sat in the corner. Blanket around her shoulders. She wasn’t crying anymore. She was just shaking.

Joseph crouched in front of her. "What did you see?"
She looked up. Her eyes were red.
"I was watching TV... then I saw movement outside my window."
Joseph and Bello exchanged a look. 6th floor.
"A woman," she continued. "All black. Dress. Hair down to her back.
She had a man by the throat. Right outside the glass.
She just... lifted him. Like he was nothing. And threw him."
Her voice broke.
"Then she looked at me. And smiled. Before she turned to smoke and was gone."

"Did you recognize her?" Joseph asked softly.
The woman shook her head. "No. But she didn’t look human.
More like a shadow wearing a woman."

DPO Bello sighed and ran a hand over his face.
He turned to Joseph. "Joseph, we need you. Again."
Joseph stared at the broken window. At the smear on the glass.
He exhaled.
"I was hoping that was the last call."

That night we went to Dessa's shrine.

*CHAPTER 2: A REALM TOO STRONG*

Dessa’s shrine smelled of herbs, rain, and old smoke. Dried leaves hung from the rafters. Candles flickered in glass cups, throwing shadows across the clay walls.

Joseph paced. "Can you see her? Who is this woman?"

Dessa didn’t answer right away. She was already drawing a circle on the floor with white chalk and red pepper.
"Sit down. And be quiet."

She sat in the middle of the circle, legs crossed. A brass bowl of water sat before her. She began to chant low, in a language Joseph didn’t know. The air got cold.
The water rippled. Then it spun.

Dessa’s eyes rolled back.
"She’s old," Dessa whispered. "Older than the town. Older than the kings—"

She jerked back like she’d been slapped. A scream tore out of her.
Blood ran from her nose and down her chin.

"Dessa!" Joseph dropped to his knees and caught her before she hit the floor.

She was panting, shaking.
"I can't... Her realm is too old. Too dark. She’s from before the first king. I can’t touch her."
"You’re hurt and weak." Joseph wiped the blood with his sleeve.
Dessa coughed out a laugh. "Travelling to the spirit realm drains a lot of energy. Let’s get a drink. To get our strength back."
"Sounds good," Joseph said, helping her up. "And yes, you’re right."

They went late at night to the bar. They sat in the corner drinking some bottles of wine.
"Who do you suspect?" Joseph asked.
"I don’t know," Dessa said, staring at her bottle. "But whoever she is, she’s angry. And she’s strong."

Dessa froze mid-sip. Her eyes went to the window.
"Joseph."
"What?"
"Outside. That woman."

A shadow moved past the glass. Black dress. Hair to her waist. Bare feet.

They didn’t talk. They ran.

The figure moved fast down the alley and slipped into a small compound. They followed it into the compound. A yellow bulb was on. Inside, a man, his wife, and two small kids were eating from one plate on the floor.

Dessa and Joseph burst into their house.
"Everyone get down!" Dessa shouted.

The woman in black turned from the doorway. Her eyes were completely black. No whites. No pupils.
"You’re late."

She raised one hand.
The family collapsed. Just like that. No sound. No blood. Just empty.

"Tell the town I’m home."
She smiled. Then she turned to smoke and slipped through the roof like water down a drain.

Outside, the night was quiet again.
Dessa was shaking. Her hands wouldn’t stop.
"I know that face," she whispered. "I’ve seen it... in my mother’s book."

*CHAPTER 3: THE BOOK OF URIS*

The shrine was silent when they got back. Only the candles made any sound, spitting in their cups.

Dessa went straight to the back room without a word. She started tearing through wooden boxes and old sacks. Dust flew up.
"What are you looking for?" Joseph asked, standing in the doorway.
"The book." Her voice was tight. "The one my mother said I should never open unless the world was ending."

She moved faster. Pots clanged. Papers scattered.
Then she stopped.

At the bottom of a rusted trunk, wrapped in red cloth, was a book.
Old leather. Black with age. The cover had no title, just a symbol burned into it — a circle with 3 lines through it.

Dessa picked it up like it weighed 100 kilos.
‘THE BOOK OF THE DARK’, she whispered.
She unwrapped it. The pages smelled like iron and herbs.

She flipped through them, fingers trembling, until she found it.
"Yes. That’s her!"

Joseph came closer and looked over her shoulder. The page was written in two inks. Black, and something dark brown that looked too much like dried blood.

Dessa cleared her throat and read aloud.

*_"The Mother of Uris. Witch. Wife to Warlock Samson. Mother of two.
They fed on villages. Drank blood from cups.
She would cut open pregnant women to eat the cords of the unborn.
She said it made her young."__

Joseph exhaled. "God..."

Dessa turned the page. A drawing stared back at them. A deep pit, with chains and symbols carved into the walls.

__"The King couldn’t stop them. So he traveled 40 days to the Land of the Spirit.
He brought back Chief Priest Ayo."__

She turned another page.

__"Ayo trapped them in a pit filled with charms. Stripped their powers.
Tied them and left them in the Evil Forest for vultures.
But the warlock... he cut his own heart out.
Used the blood to break the charm.
He sacrificed his life for their freedom.
He freed the Mother and she ran away with the daughters."__

Joseph’s jaw clenched. "And the daughters?"
Dessa swallowed and read the last part.

__"The Priest cursed them before they ran.
One will never bear a child.
The other will bleed every month until she dies."_*

Silence. Only the rain starting on the zinc roof.

Dessa closed the book slowly. The leather creaked.
She looked up at Joseph. Her eyes were wet but hard.
"We killed the daughters, Joseph.
This is their mother.
And she wants revenge for all of us."

Joseph didn’t speak. He just looked at the book. At the drawing of the pit.
Outside, thunder rolled.

*CHAPTER 4: THE PATTERN*

The book lay open on the floor between them.
Dessa didn’t close it. She turned to the last few pages instead.

The paper there was different. Thicker. The ink looked fresher, like it had been added later.

Seven drawings.
Rough, but clear.
A house. A hotel. A family at a table. A mall. A school. A church. A graveyard.
Under each one was a symbol Joseph didn’t recognize. And a single word written in blood.

Dessa’s finger shook as she traced them.
"She’s not killing randomly," Dessa said. Her voice was low. "This is a ritual. Look."

"What is it?" Joseph leaned in.

"Seven places. Seven kinds of blood."
She tapped each drawing as she spoke.
"*1. Homes* - innocent blood.
*2. Hotels* - traveler blood.
*3. Families* - family blood.
*4. Mall* - crowd blood.
*5. Schools* - child blood.
*6. Church* - faithful blood.
*7. Graveyard* - dead blood."

She looked up. Her face was pale in the candlelight.
"When she finishes all seven, she becomes a god. She regains all the power Chief Priest Ayo stripped from her.
And then she finishes us. And the entire town."

The room went cold.

Joseph stared at the drawings. "She’s already done 1, 2, and 3."
"Hotel. Home. Family." Dessa nodded. "That’s why she said 'Tell the town I’m home'."

Joseph stood up and started pacing. "Where next?"

Dessa closed her eyes. She pressed two fingers to her temples and breathed deep.
The candles flickered even though there was no wind.

"I see water," she whispered. "Concrete. Glass. Noise. People running."
Her eyes snapped open.
"The mall by the bridge. Tomorrow evening. That’s where she’ll take the fourth blood."

Joseph picked up his jacket. His hands were steady, but his chest felt heavy.
"Then we’ll be there first."

Dessa stood too. She wrapped ‘THE BOOK OF THE DARK’ back in red cloth.
"Joseph," she said quietly.
"Yeah?"
"We must save them before she sheds more blood..” Says Dessa
Outside, the rain started again.

*CHAPTER 5: THE MALL*

They got there at noon and waited.
"What if we’re wrong?"
"We’re not."

The mall was busy. Music played. Kids ran with shopping bags. Vendors shouted.

At 6pm, the lights flickered once. Twice. Then went out.
Screams cut through the dark.

The Mother walked in through the main entrance. Black dress. Hair to her waist. Eyes like dead coal. She didn’t run. She walked.

"Run. It makes it sweeter." Her voice echoed through the whole mall.

The first man didn’t even see her coming. She grabbed him by the throat, lifted him one-handed, and snapped his neck. The crack was loud. She dropped him and kept walking.

A woman pulled her daughter behind a kiosk. The Mother turned her head.
"You think fabric will hide you?"
She waved her hand. The kiosk exploded. The woman and child flew back and hit the ground, unmoving.

People were trampling each other to get to the exits. The Mother raised both arms.
The glass doors slammed shut on their own. Locked.

"Nowhere to go."

She moved through the crowd. One swipe and 3 people fell, clutching their chests. She grabbed a security guard and threw him into the ceiling fan. Blood rained down.
She walked past a food court and dragged a man out by his ankle. She broke his arm, then his other arm, then his neck. Slowly. Watching them scream.

Joseph and Dessa burst in from the back entrance.
"Stop her!" Joseph yelled and threw a spear of fire.
The Mother sidestepped it. The fire hit a pillar and exploded.

Dessa sent a wave of water down the corridor, pushing people away from her.
"Get out! Get out now!"

The Mother laughed. She lifted a woman by the hair and slammed her into a glass storefront.
"You’re the ones who killed my girls? Cute."

She turned to face them fully. Around her, bodies lay in aisles. Some were still moving. Phones were recording. No one was coming to help.

Joseph threw another blast. Dessa followed with water whips.
The Mother caught the fire in one hand and the water in the other, crushed them together, and sent the steam back at them.

"She’s too fast!" Dessa shouted, coughing.

The Mother looked at the carnage. At least 14 people down. She breathed in deep, like she could taste their fear.
Her eyes glowed brighter.

Then she smiled at Joseph and Dessa.
"Next time, bring more."

She exploded into black smoke. The smoke snaked through the ceiling vents and was gone.

Alarms started wailing. People were crying, crawling.

Joseph punched a wall. "We failed!"
Dessa was checking pulses, her hands shaking. "No. We learned. Next is the school."

*CHAPTER 6: THE SCHOOL*

Central Primary. Morning.
Assembly was going on. Hundreds of children in white and blue stood in lines, singing the national anthem.

"Madam, please. No school today. Send the children home." Dessa pleaded with the Headmistress at the gate.
"Madam, is this a joke? We have exams today."
"People will die."
"Security, see these people out."

Two guards pushed them back to the road.

Joseph looked at Dessa. "We can’t leave them."
Dessa nodded. "We wait."

At 11am, the gate opened by itself. Slowly. With a creak.
No one was there.

Then she walked in singing a poem.

The Mother. Black dress. Bare feet. Hair covering half her face.

The singing stopped.

"Get down! Get down!" Dessa screamed, vaulting the gate.
Joseph was already running.

Panic.
Children scattered. Some fell. Some cried for their teachers.

The Mother raised one hand.
The first boy, maybe 9 years old, was lifted off the ground by his throat. He kicked and clawed.
"Please—"
She snapped. He dropped.

She moved like smoke through the crowd.
A girl hiding under a bench was dragged out by her ankle. The Mother slammed her into a wall.
Two boys running for the classroom were hit by an invisible force and thrown 10 feet. They didn’t get up.

"Stop her!" Joseph roared. He threw a wall of fire between her and a group of 5 kids.
The fire pushed her back a step.

Dessa was already on the ground, pulling children behind her. Water wrapped around her arms like ropes.
"Come! Come with me! Stay low!"

She grabbed 3 girls and shoved them toward the staff room.
"Lock the door! Don’t open for anyone!"

The Mother turned on her, furious.
"You dare?"

She sent a wave of black energy. It knocked Dessa back and sent 4 children flying.
Joseph jumped in front. His charm burned white and he caught the wave on his chest. He slid back, coughing blood, but the kids behind him were safe.

"Joseph!"
"I’m fine. Get them out!"

Joseph and Dessa fought side by side now.
Joseph burned a path with fire, forcing the Mother away from the younger classes.
Dessa used water to lift 6 children onto the school roof where teachers were pulling them to safety.

But the Mother was fast.
She grabbed a teacher by the throat and broke her neck.
She kicked in a classroom door and 3 more children fell.
She was counting. Feeding.

Seven.
By the time the police sirens started in the distance, seven children were gone.

Joseph was on his knees, shielding a small boy with his body.
"Joseph, now!" Dessa yelled.

She slammed both hands into the ground. A wave of water burst from the taps, the gutters, the water tanks. It swept down the compound, pushing children and teachers toward the gate.

The Mother stood in the middle of it all, soaked, laughing.
"Is that all?"

She looked at Joseph. Then at Dessa.
"Next time, I’ll finish the class."

She threw her head back and turned to black smoke.
The smoke shot up, through the flagpole, and vanished into the sky.

Silence. Only crying.

Outside the gate, Dessa dropped to her knees and cried.
"They didn’t believe us."
Joseph put a hand on her shoulder, his own hands shaking.
"Then we make the next ones believe."

*CHAPTER 1: THE CALL AFTER PEACE*
Two weeks after the Elliot case.

Joseph thought it was over. No more missing girls. No more midnight calls that made his chest go tight.

Then his office phone rang at 9:13AM.
"Mr. Joseph? DPO Bello here. We need you at the station. Now."

At the station, seven photographs were spread across the DPO’s desk. Seven smiling faces. Ages 6 to 11.
"Seven children. Three different schools. Gone in five days," Bello said, rubbing his eyes. "No ransom note. No CCTV. No trace. The parents are breaking, Joseph."
He slid the folder forward. "Can you... use what you do... and find who’s behind this?"

Joseph looked at the photos. A girl with neat braids. A boy missing two front teeth.
"I’ll try," he said.

That night he went to Dessa’s house by the river.
"I need you," he told her. "Something is taking children."

Dessa didn’t ask questions. She filled a brass bowl with river water, knelt, and dipped her hands in.

The water turned black.
She gasped and jerked back like she’d been burned.
"Joseph," she whispered, terrified. "The Queen of Shadows is back."

"What?" Joseph stood up. "Who is the Queen of Shadows?"

*CHAPTER 2: THE CURSED WOMAN*
Dessa wrapped herself in a shawl. Her hands were still shaking.

"She’s the daughter of a witch and warlock who were chased out of a village near Uris forty years ago. Too much blood. Too much evil.
But she was cursed, Joseph."

"Cursed how?"

"Barrenness. The gods took her womb. She can never give birth. Never hold her own child."

Joseph sat down slowly. "Then that explains it. The rage. The emptiness. She’s stealing other people’s children because she can’t have her own."

"Where is she?"
"I don’t know," Dessa admitted. "My sight can’t reach her. Her power is older than mine."
She was quiet for a moment. Then her eyes lifted. "But I know someone who does. Odysa."

"Odysa died before I was born."
"Exactly. And I know where she’s buried. We have to go to her grave at midnight. I’ll summon her. She’ll tell us how to find the Queen."

*CHAPTER 3: MIDNIGHT AT THE GRAVEYARD*
12:00AM. Dusts Cemetery. Fog sat low on the ground.

Joseph felt them immediately. Ghosts. Dozens. Watching from behind tombstones. A woman with no jaw. A boy with a rope around his neck.

"Don’t speak to them," Dessa warned. "Don’t even look them in the eye. They’ll follow you home."

She knelt at a cracked tombstone that read: _ODYS'A, 1922-1968. SHE SPOKE FOR THE DEAD._
Dessa began to chant. Low, in the old river tongue.

The air grew cold. The grass bent though there was no wind.
Then the earth cracked open and mist poured out.

A woman rose. Ageless. Wearing white. Her eyes were kind but tired.
"Long time, my daughter," Odysa said, voice like wind through bamboo.
"We need you," Dessa said quickly. "This is Joseph. Children are missing. The Queen of Shadows has returned."

Odysa’s face hardened. "That barren witch. I thought fire took her."
"She’s in the Market of the Dead," Odysa continued. "The only path there is through the River of Bells. Take this."
She pressed a small crystal into Dessa’s palm. It pulsed like a heartbeat.
"And this key. Say _'Choot Choot'_ at the river and the water will open. Beneath it you’ll find a gate. That leads to her market."
Odysa looked at Joseph. "Be careful, son of Philip. Her hatred runs deep."

Then she sank back into the ground. The tomb sealed itself.

Behind them, the other ghosts moaned: "Help us... please..."
"Don’t answer," Dessa said, pulling Joseph away. "Let’s go."

*CHAPTER 4: THE RIVER OF BELLS*
The River of Bells wasn’t on any map.

Bells hung from dead trees and rang though the air was still. The water was black and thick.
Spirits wandered the bank. Men with split faces. Women carrying their own heads.

"I can’t swim," Joseph admitted.

Dessa smiled for the first time that day. "Good thing I’m a river goddess then."
She took his hand. "Hold on to me. Don’t let go. And don’t speak to anyone."

She pulled him into the water.

Underneath it was worse. Cold hands grabbed at his ankles. Voices whispered his childhood sins.
Dessa swam, holding him to her chest, until they reached an iron door at the riverbed.
She fit the key. It turned.

Water rushed in and spat them out into a new place.

*CHAPTER 5: THE MARKET OF THE DEAD*
Silence.

No shouting. No trading. Just bone stalls and dust.
And everywhere, small shapes covered in white cloth.

Joseph pulled one cloth back. A child. Small bones. Eyes open.
"Jesus," he breathed. "These are dead kids bones littered on the ground"

"Shh," Dessa hissed. "She controls every spirit here. That’s why it’s empty. She doesn’t allow anyone else in her territory."

At the center stood a temple made of skulls.
Inside, a woman knelt. Tall. Dressed in black. Her back to them.
She was praying. Or cursing.

"That’s her," Dessa whispered. "The Queen of Shadows."

Around the temple, 7 children sat in a circle, wrists bound. The missing ones.
The Queen stood, poured a black liquid into a cup, and walked to them.
"Drink," she snapped when they turned away. "DRINK IT!"
She forced the cup to their lips.

"God, she’s hurting them," Joseph whispered, fists clenched.
"We don’t know how to stop her," Dessa said. "We have to go back to Odysa."

They slipped out the way they came, opened the gate, and swam back to the world of the living.

*CHAPTER 6: THE SECOND SUMMONING*
Midnight again. The graveyard again.

This time Odysa took longer to rise. When she did, she was angry.
"I told you where she is! Why wake me again?"
"I’m sorry," Dessa cried. "How do we stop her? What can hurt her?"

Odysa sighed. "You can’t kill her with force. But you can take the children.
Get their names. Call each name while touching the crystal. They’ll be pulled from her market and returned to their beds."
Then she was gone.

*CHAPTER 7: THE FIRST RESCUE*
The DPO gave Joseph all seven names that morning. Parents clutched his hands and begged.

That night, Joseph and Dessa went back through the River of Bells.
The Queen wasn’t in the temple. This was their chance.

Joseph knelt and touched the crystal.
"Linda." _The air shimmered. The girl vanished._
"Ramsey." _Vanished._
"Paul." _Vanished._
"Anita." _Vanished._

He was calling the fifth name when the temple doors exploded inward.

The Queen of Shadows stood there. Nine feet tall. No eyes. Just a mouth with three rows of teeth.
She saw four empty spaces.
She screamed. The sound cracked the bone walls.

"I KNOW YOU!" She pointed a long finger at Joseph. "You killed my sister Flora, the great sorceress! Now you come into MY house and steal from me?"
She slammed her staff down. Joseph and Dessa hit the floor.
Ropes of shadow wrapped around their wrists and ankles.

"You will die slowly," she said, dragging them inside. "In three days I make the sacrifice. Your blood will give me power to take a thousand more."

*CHAPTER 8: THREE DAYS*
In the human world, four children woke up in their own beds. Parents wept and called the police.
One boy told them: "A man was calling our names in the dark."

"Joseph," the DPO said. "But where is he?"

In the temple, Joseph and Dessa were tied to posts near a fire pit.

"If she kills me," Joseph said quietly, "promise the kids get home safe."
"Don’t talk like that," Dessa said, tears falling.
"I spent my whole life thinking I was cursed. I hated my father," Joseph whispered. "Seeing ghosts. Hearing them. I never asked for it."
"I know what it’s like to be different," Dessa said. "But you chose to use it to save. That matters."

*CHAPTER 9: ARIGA*
On day two, the police went to a man called Ariga. A spiritualist who read the future in mirrors.

He chanted for ten minutes, then gasped.
"She’s holding them in the Market of the Dead. That woman is barren and she hates the sound of children.
Only one thing weakens her. The cry of a newborn baby."
"Tomorrow night is the sacrifice," he said. "You have to hurry."

The officers went to a hospital and, with permission and payment, borrowed a newborn for one night.

*CHAPTER 10: THE BATTLE*
Night of the third day. The Queen stood over Joseph and Dessa with a knife.
She began to chant. The fire rose higher.

Then a baby cried.

The Queen shrieked and clutched her head. "NO! THAT SOUND!"

Light filled the temple. Ariga stepped through, holding the newborn.
He cut their ropes. "Go!"

Ariga and the Queen fought. Magic against magic.
But she was stronger. She melted into shadows, appearing in three places at once to confuse him, then opened her mouth and a white bolt shot out.
Ariga didn’t even scream. His body unraveled, bone by bone, until only dust remained.

"Run!" Dessa yelled, grabbing Joseph and the three remaining children.

The Queen appeared in front of them, blocking the gate.

Dessa held the baby up. It cried louder.
The Queen staggered, covering her ears.
"Circle!" Dessa shouted. "Hold hands!"

Joseph, Dessa, and the three children formed a circle around the baby. Joseph and Dessa chanted together. Names. Prayers. Protection.

The Queen began to burn. She ran to her temple and it cracked and started falling on her. Her shadows scattered and flew away.
"THIS ISN’T OVER!" she screamed as the roof collapsed on her.

Joseph touched the crystal and called the last three names. The children vanished.
He and Dessa dove through the gate and swam out of the River of Bells, the baby still crying in Dessa’s arms.

Behind them, the Market of the Dead exploded.

*CHAPTER 11: HOME*
All seven children were returned to their families by morning.

The DPO shook Joseph’s hand for a full minute. "You’re not just a consultant, Joseph. You’re a miracle."
They gave him a commendation. Another promotion.

That evening, by the river, Joseph and Dessa sat in silence.
"Thank you," Joseph said. "For everything."
Dessa leaned her head on his shoulder. "We did it. Together."

Above them, the sky was clear. No humming. No shadows.

Far away, in the rubble of the Market of the Dead, something shifted in the ash.
A whisper.
_"This isn’t the end..."_

*CHAPTER 7: THE BRIDGE*
One month later.

Joseph now has an office at the station. On the door: "Cold Case Unit - Consultant J."
Ghosts come to him daily. Not to scare him. To talk.

Every Sunday he visits Dessa at the river. She’s teaching him more.
“You did good,” she tells him. “But that ‘queen’ the sorceress mentioned... she’s real. And she heard you.”

Joseph looks at the water. He’s not scared anymore.
Because for the first time, the dead don’t haunt him.
They work with him.

And Joseph, the man who sees ghosts, is finally home.

CHAPTER 6: THE ARREST*
“POLICE!” Joseph shouted.

The officers rushed in. Elliot was in his room, counting money. They came in and confronted him but Elliot tried to deny it then Joseph takes them outside the house.
When he showed them the pit and the bodies, Elliot collapsed.

At the station he confessed everything on camera.
“She said 3 virgins every Friday. She said I would be the richest man in Africa. I didn’t know it would hurt so much...”

Elliot and 4 guards were sentenced to life in prison. The hotel was shut down.

CHAPTER 5: CONFRONTATION AT THE MANSION*
Midnight. Joseph walked into Elliot’s compound alone. Two policemen waited in the bush with cameras.

The air dropped 10 degrees. The sorceress appeared, furious.
“You disobeyed me!”

“The girls disobeyed you first,” Joseph said. “They said no.”

He raised his hands. “Blessing. Come forth.”

The ground cracked. One by one, 27 girls rose from the pit behind the house. White dresses. Wounds still fresh. Eyes glowing.

The sorceress pulled out a crystal ball and threw black lightning. 3 ghosts fell.
“Go back to hell!” she screamed.

Joseph dropped to his knees. “Blessing! Now! The chant!”

The remaining 24 ghosts held hands. They began to sing. A funeral song. A lullaby.
Light poured out of them and hit the sorceress.

She dropped the crystal. It shattered.
“Nooo! My power!”

“Bind her,” Joseph commanded.

The ghosts’ light wrapped around her like chains. She screamed until her voice broke, then exploded into ash.

The last thing she said was: “The queen will avenge me...”

The ghosts turned to Joseph and bowed. “Thank you, brother,” Blessing whispered. Then they faded, finally at peace.

CHAPTER 4: THE FIRST VIRGIN*
Before going to Elliot, Joseph tested his new power.

He went to the mortuary. Called out to the last girl Elliot killed. Her name was Blessing. 17.
Her ghost appeared, crying.
“They said I was going for an audition,” she whispered. “He smiled at me... then the knife.”

Joseph taught her the chant. “When I call you, bring the others. Hold hands. Don’t be afraid.”

Blessing nodded and vanished.

*CHAPTER 3: THE JOURNEY TO MERIDIAN*
Meridian village was 6 hours away. No network. No light. Just river and trees.

An old woman at the market told him, “Sydney the water goddess died 3 years ago. Drowned protecting the village from floods. But her daughter... Dessa. She lives by the Omi Shrine.”

Joseph found the shrine at midnight. Candles. White cloth.
And a woman in white standing in the river. She didn’t turn when he spoke.

“I’m Dessa,” she said. “I’ve been waiting for you, Joseph.”
“How do you know my name?”
“The dead told me. They’ve been screaming your name.”

Joseph told her everything. Elliot. The sorceress. The pit.

Dessa dipped her hand in the water. It glowed blue.
“Your gift is not a curse. It’s a calling. You are a bridge. But a bridge that does nothing will break.”
She taught him for 2 days. How to see through a ghost’s eyes. How to bind a spirit with its true name. How to make them hold hands and form a chain of light.

“Can I kill the sorceress?” Joseph asked.
“No,” Dessa said. “But you can make her powerless. And you can give the dead their voice.”

CHAPTER 2: THE GRAVE PIT*
For 3 nights Joseph watched Elliot from afar.

He saw Elliot’s men go to hotels. "We have a modeling job. 5 million naira."
They only picked girls between 16-20. Only virgins.

CCTV showed them entering Elliot’s penthouse. No one ever came out.

Joseph followed one of the guards one night. Behind Elliot’s mansion was a pit. Covered with fresh concrete.
And the smell. God, the smell.

He broke down that night.
_I can talk to ghosts. But what good is that when they’re already dead?_

Then he remembered his father’s dying words:
_“If darkness ever gets too heavy, go to Meridian. Find the water. Find Sydney.”_

*CHAPTER 1: THE STRANGE WOMAN*
Joseph now works with the police. Officially as "Consultant". Unofficially as "The Ghost Whisperer."

The DPO called him to the station at 2AM. The room smelled like sweat and fear.
“There’s a businessman we can’t touch,” the DPO said, sliding a file across the table. “His name is Elliot. Hotels. Cars. Casinos. He never loses.”

An officer whispered, “Sir, people say he sacrifices virgins for wealth.”
“3 girls missing this month alone,” another added. “All last seen entering his hotel.”

The DPO looked at Joseph. “We need proof. Go to the casino. Use your... gift.”

That night, Joseph entered "The Golden Crown Casino". Lights. Music. The smell of money and perfume.
At the center table sat Elliot. 40s. Gold chain. Laughing as chips piled up.

Beside him sat a woman in red. Too perfect. Her skin glowed like she was lit from inside.
Joseph’s blood went cold. That feeling. Spirits.

Elliot won again. “I’m blessed!” He threw money to his guards and walked out with the woman.

Joseph followed them to the parking lot.
Then she was suddenly in front of him. No footsteps. No sound.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Her voice was ice.
Joseph stuttered. “I... I’m just—”
“I know who you are,” she cut him off. “Police dog. Only you can see me.”
She leaned in. Her breath smelled like copper.
“I’m a sorceress. I whisper winning numbers into their heads. I give them riches. And in return... they give me blood.
Talk to the police and I will pull your soul out through your mouth. Understood?”

She smiled, then dissolved into black smoke.

Joseph ran. But not to the station. To his room. He couldn’t sleep.
