Retired Brigadier General Lawal Jafar Isa was yesterday arrested by the EFCC in connection with the arms scam involving the Office of National Security Adviser.
You'll recall that Jafar Isa was former military administrator, an original APC chieftain, a member of Buhari’s Transition Committee and was a top contender for a ministerial position.

A 25-year-old Kenyan man from the Kirinyaga County, Leonard Kimotho , caused a stir in his community when he chopped off his own joystick on January 1, 2016, (New Year’s day), in protest for being turned down by the women he was trying to date, reports Tuko.co.ke.

Kimotho, who is said to find it difficult to get a woman for himself, decided to take that drastic step since he believed his manhood was useless to him and as such, should be blamed for his inability to get a woman.

So while others including his friends and family were celebrating the beginning of another year, Kimotho used a sharp knife to cut off his weapon.

His parents quickly summoned a local chief, Emmaculate Njoka , to assess the damage that their son had caused to himself and the distress he had brought them.

“A family from Kiorugari called and informed me their son had chopped off his manhood. They say after secretly performing the act on himself, he rushed out of the house while bleeding profusely.

They carried him and his severed manhood in a polythene bag to hospital. Upon reaching the facility, doctors advised the family to take the victim to Kerugoya Level 4 Hospital since his condition was severe.

The doctors at Kerugoya Level 4 Hospital have said they will try their best to reattach the manhood,” Njoka said.

It is reported that Kimotho, a bachelor, had hoped to be in a relationship but all his efforts to get a girlfriend could not bear fruit, hence his resolve that his manhood was useless if there was no woman who was interested in him.

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has confirmed officially that taking ‘selfies’ is a mental disturbance.

The disorder is called selfitis, and is defined as the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one’s self and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy.

APA said there are three levels of the disorder:

Borderline selfitis : taking photos of one’s self at least three times a day but not posting them on social media

Acute selfitis: taking photos of one’s self at least three times a day and posting each of the photos on social media

Chronic selfitis: Uncontrollable urge to take photos of one’s self round the clock and posting the photos on social media more than six times a day

According to the APA, while there is currently no cure for the disorder, temporary treatment is available through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT ).

ABUJA—Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, yesterday, teamed up with other eminent Nigerians to give President Muhammadu Buhari a robust defence after the president came under criticisms for insisting that the Federal Government would not release former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (retd), and the founder of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, despite several court directives to that effect.
Senate Leader, Sen Ali Ndume, former Minister of Transport and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Chief Ebenezar Babatope and retired Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav argued that President Buhari was not dictatorial. They said he was only being serious minded, while the Attorney General said the president was just being a promoter of public interest and not a tyrant.
Speaking with Vanguard, yesterday, in an exclusive interview, Malami described as laughable, allegation by some Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari is a tyrant.
He said that those making the allegation against Buhari were oblivious of the national interest, which the President was protecting. The minister said that what was at stake was a conflict between public and private interest, insisting that there was no way any right-thinking leader would allow individual interest to override the national interest.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Bar Association had on Monday lashed out at the president for not heeding two court judgments directing the Department of State Service, DSS, to release both Col. Dasuki and Kanu, who also runs the Biafra Radio and Television.
But Malami said that in all democracies around the world, national interests are always given top priority over individual interests, especially when such individuals had committed heinous crimes against society.
The minister pointed out that both Dasuki and Kanu, who were recently admitted to bail, had committed very serious crimes against the nation and its people and should not be made to appear as victims of any state victimisation.
Malami said: “These people compromised national interest leading to multiple loss of lives and property of innocent Nigerians and are now crying foul that they did nothing wrong.
“Here, when you weigh national interest against individual interest, the latter must naturally give way.
“Are we now saying that the collective national interest should give way for the individual interest of a few people who are working hard to cause more havoc?
“There is no basis whatsoever to profile Mr. President as a tyrant given the fact that what he is doing is rooted in public interest and to advance the well being of the majority of Nigerians as opposed to the protection of a few privileged and powerful individuals.
“What the president is doing is to end the unfortunate regime of impunity which some of these people used to perpetuate injustice, corruption and lawlessness in the land and that does not amount to tyranny,” Malami said.
According to the minister, Buhari’s actions so far derive strength from Section 15 (4-5) of the Nigerian Constitution, which is to fight corruption holistically and give the nation a new lease of life and has nothing to do with tyranny or oppression.
Section 15 (4) says: “The State shall foster a feeling of belonging and of involvement among the various peoples of the federation to the extent that loyalty to the nation shall override sectional loyalties. Sub-section 5 states that “the State shall abolish all corrupt practices and abuse of power.”
Others who came to the defence of the president argued that the president was not dictatorial but a serious minded person who is very focused while he has also been very fair to the opposition. They added that Buhari’s stern commitment towards ensuring probity in the polity was being misconstrued.

Ndume said: “It is not possible to be a dictator in a democratic environment like ours where you have a vibrant opposition. But I will agree if people say President Buhari is a very serious President. We have a very serious President which is a far departure from the past where we had a very funny, unserious and weak President. Now we have a serious President.
“If you accuse him of being a serious President, I will agree with you, but not as a dictator who does not respect rule of law.”
On his part, Datti a close associate of Buhari said the President has not violated any law through the non-release of Dasuki and Kanu.
He said: “Dasuki’s first arrest was based on illegal arms possession before the issue of monies he shared to his PDP cronies came up and some people are saying that Buhari violated the rule of law
“It is only in Nigeria that people will commit heinous crimes of this magnitude and then a few will be calling our President unprintable names”.
“As For Kanu his crime is simply treasonable felony. Releasing him is dangerous as the man needs to be taught a lesson.
“The man imported gadgets into Nigeria using it to destabilise the polity at the same time calling the President a terrorist and you expect the man to be released?
“If his elders can’t teach him a lesson then he should remain where he is to learn better lessons as he was not properly brought up by his parents.”

Similarly, Babatope said: “With what has been happening regarding the court orders, I will not say he is a dictator. He has been fair enough to allow the opposition have a say at any given time.”
“It does not mean that we should not encourage Buhari to obey court orders because obeying court orders is submitting to the rule of law. And the rule of law is one of the cardinal points in a democracy.”

Also speaking, Tsav said: ‘’The statement the President made to the effect that Dasuki and Kanu will not be released is unfortunate. As a matter of fact, if I were him I would not have commented on that because some might think that he is interfering with the process of the court. Apart from that he has allowed the courts to do their jobs. Same applies to other institutions of the state that have been performing their duties without interference. Therefore, I don’t think the perception of him having dictatorial tendencies holds water. People don’t know that sometimes some suspects are jailed in their own interest Mr. President is not a dictator.

Shettima on his part differed saying: “We should not encourage what is happening. If Buhari as the President can undermine the judiciary, it gives me a lot of worry and concern. He should not be seen to be higher than our institution, what we should be looking at is for our institutions to be strengthened. Due process must be followed. If a court of law gives an order, that order must be obeyed. Investigations must be carried out and if the court finds anyone guilty such a fellow must be convicted.”

President Muhammadu Buhari was not properly informed about the worth of vehicles to be purchased for committees’ of the National Assembly, minority leader of the House of Reps, Leo Ogor has said.
The president had said on Wednesday during his maiden media chat that there was no way members of the National Assembly would purchase vehicles for themselves worth over N40 billion after collecting car loans.
Daily Trust had reported on Wednesday that the 109 senators and 360 members of the lower chamber would get a vehicle each after collecting car loans a few weeks after their inauguration in June.
But speaking to journalists in Abuja, Ogor said that: “I think someone somewhere misled the president and wanted to set him against the National Assembly, or set the Nigerian public against lawmakers.”
He said although vehicles were usually bought for committees’ oversight functions, there was nothing like car loan, explaining that what they collected was “car allowance, which was paid over the period of four years, and which even the president himself is entitled to based on the provision of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission Act.”
The House minority leader said a proposal to buy cars for committees cannot be more than N4 billion, stressing N40 billion is about 40 percent of the National Assembly’s annual budget.
Ogor explained that the cars the National Assembly usually buys are not “exotic vehicles” but “rugged” ones that can travel to any part of the country.
Similarly, House spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas, denied yesterday that lawmakers were given any car loans, saying the cars they have proposed to were for committee.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed January 5, 2016 for the trial of former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Haliru Mohammed Bello and his son, Abba.
The date was fixed due to an undisclosed illness which the former PDP chairman is being treated for in a hospital in Abuja.
Mohammed and his son are standing trial alongside BAM projects and Properties Ltd on a four count criminal charge for allegedly collecting N600 million from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
The duo were to be docked on Tuesday before Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, but the prosecution informed the court earlier that the former PDP chairman was on admission in an Abuja hospital for an undisclosed illness.
Mohammed and his son were part of those indicted in the N31 billion funds meant for the purchase of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgents, which the Office of the National Security Adviser distributed to some PDP stalwarts for the 2015 election campaign.
A former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, currently on trial in two separate courts had, in a statement, admitted paying about N300 million into the account of BAM Properties which was reportedly provided by Haliru Mohammed.
Abba Mohammed is alleged to have received N600 million from NSA office in the name of BAM Properties but the reason for the transfer of the money to the company was not disclosed.
The EFCC has already arrested and arraigned many top officials and companies related to the previous administration for receiving large payments from the NSA from the funds set aside for the procurement of arms to tackle Boko Haram.

No one would ever expect Christians or White people to be held responsible for the acts of Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bombing) or Andreas Brevik (Norway killing), or the gun man that shot Congresswoman Giffords in head, wounded 12 and killed 6 people, and rightly so because they had nothing to do with those incidents! Just like the rest of the 1.5 billion Muslims have nothing to do with this incident!

PORT HARCOURT— The Rivers State Police Command said it has rescued two kidnap victims from their abductors, after a serious gun battle with the kidnappers.
The command said the two victims identified as Mr. Jackson Sunday and Mrs. Mary Monday were rescued, Wednesday, after the Anti-kidnapping Squad of the Rivers State Police command stormed a kidnappers hideout in Ogbakiri waterfront in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP. Ahmad Muhammad, who disclosed this to newsmen said the two victims were freed in two separate coordinated rescue operations by the tactical unit of the command, revealing that the victims were kidnapped on different days at Rumuodara and Rumuigbo respectively.
Muhammad added that three of the suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during the operations.
He said: “On storming the hideout, the suspected kidnappers found guarding the victims engaged our men in gun duel. Three unidentified suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded while the victims were rescued unhurt.”
He revealed that one AK 47 rifle, one locally made pistols, twenty rounds of ammunition, charms and SUV belonging to Jackson Sunday were recovered from the kidnappers’ den.

A Malaysian High Court, Monday sentenced a Nigerian national to death by hanging after he was found guilty of trafficking 915.6 grammes of methamphetamine three years ago.
Judge Datuk Wan Afrah Wan Ibrahim made the decision after she was satisfied that the prosecution has proven the case against the accused, whose identity was given as Ekene Collins Isaac, 37, beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution presented 13 witnesses while the defense had one witness who testified during the trial.
The accused, who was a cleaner in Nigeria, committed the offence at Wad 6C, Serdang Hospital, at Jalan Puchong, Kajang, between 7.20am on March 3, 2012 to 1pm on March 5 of the same year.
He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39B(2) of the same Act which carries the mandatory death penalty.
The drug was found inside the accused’s body and he was alleged to have swallowed it before flying to Malaysia.
The accused was represented by V. Samynathan while deputy public prosecutor Nazir Amir Johari prosecuted.

Three wives of a Village Head and their 10 children were on Sunday feared killed as a female suicide bomber attacked their home in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, witnesses said.

The woman who took advantaged of the chaotic situation when soldiers of the Nigeria Army were busy engaging Boko Haram fighters in a shootout during a repelled attack on the city, pretended Boko Haram was chasing her, as she ran into the compound of one Bulama Isa, a Village Head.

“She ran into Bulama Isa’s compound shouting ‘Boko Haram, Boko Haram’”, said Ahmed Bala, a resident of Maiduguri.

“When the families of Isa all came out of their rooms to meet the woman in the center of their compound, the woman simply detonated the bomb she had under her garment killing the man his three wives and ten children”, said Bala.

Bulama Isa who had not returned home yet at the time his home came under attack managed to survive another suicide attack at the entrance of his home.

Sources said another female suicide who was lurking in the dark as the grief struck head of the family walked into his attacked compound, jumped out and detonated herself: but the village head was lucky again. He was able to escape with minor injury, but the blast had succeeded in killing a woman with her baby.

Official says PDP got funds for election

How much of the $2.1 billion arms purchase cash went into the Ekiti and Osun states governorship elections?

What role did a former minister play in the alleged diversion of the funds?

These are some of the questions the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is battling to answer in its probe of the phoney arms deals that set the treasury back by millions of dollars.

The cash was wired into the former minister’s accounts, the anti-graft agency is believed to have discovered.

Governorship elections were held in Ekiti (June 2014) and in Osun (August 2014).

But the former minister, one of the leading lights of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, has sneaked out of the country.

It was learnt that he may relocate from his hideout because it is considered as “unsafe” for him.

There are fears that if he remains in the hideout, his extradition for trial would be easier, a source told The Nation.

The source said: “The huge funds were paid into the accounts of the ex-Minister for elections in the two states.

“There are allegations that the funds were not disbursed as expected because the candidates had their own campaign funds.

“Although some military and security personnel were to benefit from the slush funds, they were also shortchanged.”

Some bankers who managed the accounts have already given some information to EFCC investigators.

“But we have discovered that the ex-Minister has sneaked out of the country. As soon as we establish his whereabouts, we know what to do,” the source said.

The Nation could not reach the former minister last night.

It was gathered that another N1.450billion fraud had been uncovered by the EFCC following revelations by one of the accused persons on trial.

The discovery is contained in the heap of evidence filed in the court by EFCC for the trial of 10 suspects.

The money was paid into some accounts which were submitted by a “former Accountant-General” whose identity the suspect in the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA) refused to disclose.

“I could remember the following companies and account numbers were submitted by the former Accountant -General which we paid monies into. Below are the companies and amounts so far paid: Stellavera Dev Company(N300m); First Aralac Global Limited(N300m); First Aralac Global Limited(N100m); Damaris Mode(N300m); Stellavera Dev Company(N200m) and Whese Farms Ltd(N250m).

“I was directed to pay monies into the above accounts. I do not know what the monies were meant for, “ the accused person said.

Meanwhile, a Staff Officer, Account 1, Yazidu Ibrahim has disclosed that most payments from the ONSA were meant to pursue the PDP presidential election.

He claims to have payment vouchers of all funds remitted to PDP beneficiaries, companies and contractors.

He made the disclosures in a statement made to EFCC as a witness.

Ibrahim said: “My duties include recording financial transactions and to keep custody of all duplicate copies of financial transactions. Also to prepare bank reconciliation statements and to collect statements from all banks.

“The year 2014-2015 transactions were mainly to support the presidential election of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Those payments to contractors or individuals by deposit into their accounts were based on instructions from the DFA. The tellers are attached to the payment vouchers.

“All payments to contractors are based on directive from DFA. Sometimes, there is accompanying document; most times, there is nothing except account details of contractors.”

Having laid the structure for governance, especially with the appointment of key personnel and ministers, President Muhammadu Buhari’s real test in office would probably be in 2016. The president has shown himself ready to ride out the storm into the coming year, with the presentation of his 2016 appropriation bill to the National Assembly last week.
However, Daily Trust on Sunday has identified some of the major obstacles that could pose formidable challenge to Buhari, as he set out to achieve his goals.

Fuel subsidy
As another year begins, Nigerians will be waiting for Buhari’s decision on the highly controversial subject of fuel subsidy. There have been calls for him to end the policy, which experts and many Nigerians have blamed for the crippling fuel scarcity sweeping across the country.
The consideration for the removal or not of oil subsidy would be a tough decision the presidency must take in 2016. Nigerians will watch closely to see whether or not Buhari can summon the political courage to put an end to it, so as to end the perennial problem of fuel scarcity and the attendant massive corruption associated with fuel importation.

Boko Haram
After his swearing in, President Buhari gave his military commanders a December deadline to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency that has ravaged parts of the North-East. Early in the week, he was quoted as saying that the Boko Haram insurgents have been “technically defeated.” This view was repeated by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who said that Boko Haram had been degraded to a level where they cannot hold on to any Nigerian territory.
These developments show a marked improvement from the past, when the insurgents controlled and hoisted their flags in many local governments in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. But despite the successes recorded, insurgents have continued to launch pockets of attacks, including suicide bombings, especially on civilians targets. Similarly, thousands of Nigerians are still being hosted in IDP camps in various parts of the country, because their communities have not been declared safe for them to return. One of the challenges Buhari will face in the new year is setting a realizable time-frame to clear the North-East of Boko Haram remnants for the displaced persons to return home. Closely related to this, is the handling of the problems of kidnapping and cattle rustling that are on the rise in parts of the country.

Payment of salaries
Payment of salaries has been a major crisis for many state governors when they assumed office in May this year. This led many of them seeking bail-out from the federal government which President Buhari approved to be done through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The CBN disbursed N338 billion as special intervention fund to states, especially to pay arrears of salaries.
The problem of payment of salaries has remained a bottleneck on many state governments. How that would be addressed against the backdrop of dwindling oil revenues will be a hard nut to crack by Buhari’s government.

What to do with Jonathan
With his election hinged mainly on the fight against corruption, President Buhari has taken the matter head-on with the prosecution of retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser (NSA) to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, over allegation of misappropriation of funds for the purchase of arms. Some of the arms deal were said to have been approved by former President Jonathan. But the presidency has so far not shown any interest in questioning Jonathan over the arms deal, even though a number of his associates have been arraigned over the matter.
The arms deal is just one of many areas Buhari would be probing and many other sectors may be investigated 2016, raising the question of what President Buhari would do with his predecessor. His media aide, Femi Adesina, recently said the President’s hands were not tied over Jonathan, describing the possibility of investigating the former leader as a bridge that they would cross when they get to it. Whether or not the administration will get to the bridge in 2016, Nigerians will wait and see.

What next for anti-corruption fight?
Starting with the misappropriation of funds for the purchase of arms by the immediate past administration, what is in store for other sector and individuals? Invariably, key arrears of the economy might be investigated too. This may include the petroleum and the federal ministry of finance. This is surely a task before the Presidency in 2016.
In the past, anti-corruption agencies have carried out investigations of corruption cases and charged suspects to courts, where the cases were lost, frustrated or abandoned.
The litmus test for Buhari’s war against corruption will be the number of cases uncovered, investigated, prosecuted and convicted, as well as the money recovered.

Decreased naira value
The naira has been on a steady fall for months, to its present rate of about N260 against the dollar. One of the biggest challenges for Buhari in the new year is how to stop the continuous decline of the naira, which ripple effects can affect the economic policy of his government.

Power supply
Over the years, providing adequate electricity has been a serious challenge in the country. There have been cases where various probe panels revealed huge sums of money were expended in the sector without commensurate development.
Even at that, President Buhari is expected to do more in the power sector next year and also to resuscitate the Mambilla hydro power project which the Chinese are interested in.

Keeping the APC together
With the election over and the spoils of victory placed on the table, the gladiators in the fight are angling for recognition in the scheme of things. Certainly, next year, the president has to contend with some APC stalwarts, key among them, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Chief Bola Tinubu, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko and former Speaker, House of Representatives and Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Waziri Tambuwal. These are important figures that contributed to the party’s victory at the national level. Buhari has to find a means of accommodating their personal and political ambitions, so that they do not appear to have lost out in sharing the spoils of victory.

Can his cabinet deliver?
President Buhari took a long time to shop for the right people to appoint as members of his cabinet. As expected key persons were assigned to “core” ministries in what the government considered its commitment to sustainable development. Nigerians are expecting so much from the cabinet. Among those saddled with key assignments upon whom Nigerians hinge their hopes are: Audu Ogbeh, Agriculture, Rotimi Amaechi, Transportation, Chris Ngige, Labour and Employment, Kayode Fayemi, Solid Minerals, Babatunde Fashola, Power, Works and Housing, Ibe Kachikwu, State for Petroleum and Isaac Folorunsho, Health. The president has made job creation, reviving of agriculture, development of infrastructure and solid mineral sector as the cardinal objectives of his government. This, therefore, put the spotlight on the performances of the ministers manning these portfolios.
No doubt, President Buhari is unlucky as Nigerians, now than ever before are in a haste to see development in the country and the cabinet must live above board - one thing Buhari must not fail in 2016.

Juliet Joseph Emerges Winner Of Miss North-east Beauty Pageant


Nineteen year old Miss Juliet Joseph from Adamawa State, has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of Miss North East Nigeria Beauty Pageant that took place at the main bowl of Wanenosom Cinema in Numan local government of Adamawa State.

The contest which took pace on Friday evening, saw many participants from across the region slugging it out for the coveted crown.

It was after the rigorous exercise that Miss Joseph emerged winner, while the duo of Rose Clement, 23, and Blessing Amos, 24, emerged first and second runners up respectively.

The beauty contest which was organised by M2 Ventures, Nigeria and E&T Management, Nigeria was attended by many entertainment buffs across the country including NAYDO, Funky Mallam and Jreal.

In an interview session shortly after the event, founder of the Miss North-east Beauty Pageant Angelyna Kimu Mindapa said the aim of organising the event was to showcase the beauty of the region, provide a mentor for young ladies in education, humanitarian service and entrepreneurship and to provide an avenue for indigenous ladies to attend national and international beauty pageants.

She noted that the event was organised in four segments including an interview session, named after Nyaka Mindapa, a renowned journalist who died last year.

According to her, the other segments include casual dress segment, and traditional dress from the North-east segment.

Other awards won during the beauty contest, included Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic and Best traditional outfit which ended in a tie.
