Renowned Nollywood actress, Stella Damasus and partner, award-winning filmmaker and director, Daniel Ademinokan are set to launch the test transmission of their online television station called Mon Afrik TV.
According to Stella, Mon Afrik TV is a blend of BET, MTV, E-ONLINE, NBC and CW Network all rolled into one but with 100% per cent African content.
“That is what we have created and we want Africans all over the world to see this as their own medium of expression, not just another TV station,” she said.
On his part, Ademinokan said Mon Afrik TV would fill a big vacuum, and also serve as respite for less content providers who can’t afford the fee of other television stations.
“We see no reason why a struggling producer who could barely afford to raise the capital to make his or her TV show should also look for money to pay the TV stations for airtime,” he said.
“After that, they have to convince brands to place adverts on the show before they can start making any money . That is extremely discouraging for independent producers.
“Mon Afrik TV is creating a platform where producers can showcase their works to the world and make good money for themselves without having to deal with the run-around from TV stations.

“This is not a Video-on-Demand platform for movies and is not trying to pry into an already saturated market,” Ademinokan said.
The filmmaker stressed that Mon Afrik TV would deliver world-class, premium entertainment content from and about Africa to the world .
“Africa has often been represented as a dark, isolated continent.
“Yes, Africa has issues, just like every other continent but there is more to us than starving children, gun wielding terrorists, arid lands and dilapidated buildings in remote villages.
“We have beautiful cultures, a vibrant entertainment industry and entertainers who have conquered the world on many levels and we want to showcase that to the world .
“The station is set for official launch in January 2016,” he said.

According to an online report, music star, Davido might be expecting his second child; but not with
his baby mama, Sophie Momodu, this time around.

The Central Working Committee for Africa’s biggest youth event, The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) has unveiled the anticipated list of the 50 young Africans who are the nominees for the 2015 season – with nominees from 11 countries across Africa. This season, superstars Trevor Noah (South Africa) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria) have been shortlisted alongside change makers such as Botswansian Queen Baboloki and Segawa Patrick (Uganda).

 

The nominees were announced today in a continent-wide broadcast on EbonyLife TV.
“The wait is finally over,” said Bukonla Adebakin who is project manager for the awards. “After a one year cycle finding the brightest and the best young leaders across Africa, we are excited to present the Class of 2015, with inspiring stories and models that will change our continent.”
This year’s nominees, following an open call for nominations, come from across Kenya, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Cameroon.

The Future Awards Africa has been called the ‘Nobel Prize for Young Africans’, and the ‘most important youth awards’ by Forbes. It is a set of prizes given annually to celebrate and accelerate innovation, creativity and enterprise amongst young Africans aged 18 – 31. It has produced over 150 winners and over 1550 nominees since its first edition in 2006.
