The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu yesterday, revealed how he escaped an assassination attempt on his life by a hair’s breath.
In a statement by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu, the deputy president of the Senate said the assassination attempt occurred at about 10:00am between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, close to the Old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters junction while en route the National Assembly.
He said the suspected assassins carried out the attack in an unmarked, tinted, brand new, white-coloured Mercedez Benz AMG E63 and were driven by a man who appeared to be of middle-east origin.

the Apo Bridge, on noticing that the Deputy President of the Senate’s convoy took the right turn to join the Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway instead, made a turn and attempted to ram into the convoy, but was blocked.
“The driver, however, sped off to the Apo Roundabout and on sighting the convoy of the Deputy President of the Senate, violently broke into the convoy and made several frantic attempts to ram into the Senator’s official car”, Anichukwu said.
Senator Ekweremadu said the incident had already been reported to the security agencies.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and chairman of the recently concluded PDP national conference, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has denied reports in the media credited to him that he apologized to Nigerians for his party’s alleged misrule of the country.
Dokpesi, who is founder of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM station, last week was widely quoted as saying that the PDP should have kept to its zoning agreement, adding that it was a mistake to have fielded ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 and 2015 when a northerner should have been allowed to emerge as the former ruling party’s presidential candidate to complete the tenure of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
He was also quoted to have apologized on behalf of the PDP, saying the party’s performance in the last 16 years fell short of Nigerians’ expectations.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, while reacting to the comment, said it was Dokpesi’s personal opinion, not that of the party. Former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe in his reaction, said fielding Jonathan was not a mistake that the only mistake was not sacking former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who he accused of being partisan.
In apparent reaction to the backlash his comment generated, Dokpesi, in a personally signed statement on Monday, debunked the reports, saying he was “not only an unrepentant admirer, supporter and die hard follower of Jonathan but, indeed, a party member”.
“What I said at the media briefing was that PDP governments were run by human beings who are not perfect and may have made mistakes. I cited the example of the party’s zoning agreement nationwide, which buckled in the face of incumbents who had preferred and pliant candidates and went on to subvert the people’s choice on who to represent them leading to defeats at the polls.
“I tendered an apology to PDP members nationwide for actions like that”, he clarified in the statement.
The media mogul further said he was not unaware of the anctics of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to “undo the PDP and set its members against one another in other to pave way for one party system”, adding that “such efforts would not see the light of the day”.
Mr. Dokpesi went on to hail Jonathan’s achievements in many sectors of the economy, saying Nigerians will soon commend Jonathan for his sincerity of purpose in government.
“I call on all PDP members nationwide to discountenance the misleading reports as the party has no apologies to offer anyone for its years of rule at the centre and a majority of the states”, the statement added.

I have a girlfriend. She is 21 while I am 25. She is using Blackberry and iPhone while I am using Nokia torch. I bought the phones for her because I love her so much.

I send 400 naira card to her every day but she doesn’t call me. She only flashes me. Whenever we go to a restaurant, I buy her Red wine, Juices and fried rice while I drink only pure water and eat groundnut.

One day, I bought 400 naira card for her. When we were together, she called another guy and told the guy that she loves him and will marry him. When I asked her who she was calling, she said that she was only joking. She has never ever visited my house and she doesn’t allow me to visit her house. Whenever I want to hug her, she would shout at me harshly.

What should I do? Should I increase the recharge card I buy for her to 600 naira? Or should I buy another Blackberry phone (N100,000) for her and iPhone6 (N458, 000) for her too?

I know that she loves me very much, but she’s just pretending as if she doesn’t.

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has ordered the Department of State Security to allow former National Security Adviser NSA Sambo Dasuki travel for medical checkup. Dasuki had filed a Fundamental Rights Enforcement suit against the Federal government after DSS officials prevented him from traveling out on November 4th despite a court injunction permitting him to do so.
The presiding judge in today’s hearing, Justice Ademola Adeniyi ordered the Attorney General to appear before it on Monday Nov. 16th to explain why the court order granting Dasuki permission to travel out for medical attention is being flouted.

Senators are to receive free Facebook training, says the Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate, Sen. Isa Galaudu on Thursday in Abuja.
Galaudu, in a letter sent to the senators inviting them for the event, said the training was in line with the promise of the leadership of the 8th Senate to utilise the social media.
“Senators and their aides receive training on use of facebook in line with the promise of the President of the Senate to ensure more representative legislature using e-parliamentary tools.
“This is a partnership between the Office of the Senate President and Facebook.
“Senators and aides who wish to participate in the programme should please email grsenatesocial@gmail.com with their full names.’’
The Facebook team, led by the African Head of Public Policy, will be in Nigeria at the weekend for the training slated for Monday.
According to the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Social Media, Bamikole Omishore, the training is at no cost to the senate as Facebook offered to conduct the training for free.

Officers of the Nigerian army have revealed that the wife of a Boko Haram kingpin who was arrested during a raid on the terrorists’ camp in Borno state is giving out valuable information to them.
Colonel Tukur Gusau, spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigeria Army, made this disclosure via a statement issued recently, in which he said that the arrest was made during operations in Kukawa and Nganzai local government areas of Borno state.
Leadership reports that troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion under 7 Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) during a patrol and raid on the Boko Haram terrorists’ hideout, arrested a woman presumed to be wife of the Boko Haram leader.
The woman was caught with four children she had with the unnamed Boko Haram kingpin, after he took to his heels following a gun battle with soldiers.
It is known that most Boko Haram ‘amirs’ are allowed to move around with their families.
Yesterday, the Nigerian army said it had cleared Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) buried along the road that links new Marte-Dogongida-Kerenowa in Borno.

The House of Representatives says its call for censorship on social media is for telecommunications company to develop applications or softwares that will pull down all pornographic materials on Nigeria’s social media. A statement from the House reads
“The House has prevailed upon the telecommunications service providers to either develop or acquire software that will block or filter-out certain images or contents that violate both moral and religious values in Nigeria.
Passing a resolution on a motion moved by Hon. Johnbull Shekarau calling for the censoring of social media, he prayed the House to urge the telecoms service providers to initiate a take-down procedure that will enable a swift removal of any pornographic materials when notified by network users. He advised that this could be done by dedicating a hotline that will receive and treat complaints.

The resolution passed on the motion by the House include:
• The Nigerian Communication Commission to create significant barriers to the misuse of mobile networks and services, phones and other devices used for the perpetration of such immoral contents. The House, however subscribed to the opinion of the mover of the motion that not censoring inappropriate and illicit material like pornography, sexual and homosexual ones on platforms such as YouTube, Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter etc is a threat to the moral values and decency of the Nigerian society.
