Five Must Have Mobile Apps For Job Seekers
Hello fellow job seeker, how is your job hunt going. If you are like me, then you must have made some success, seen some low points and currently strategizing to land a dream job.
Job hunting took a new dimension due to the rapid growth of technology and the internet. Today jobs can be viewed on the phone or some mobile device. This trend coupled with the normal requirement for job hunting (CV writing, cover letter, interview etc) has brought some new challenges to job searchers.
A typical example of this is having to tailor make CV to fit each new role. The job hunter would now need to edit his/her CV to fulfil such requirement. Among the plethora of demands, the job seacher needs to be well armed to meet such challenges and others that may come.
He/she would need to equip himself with the right tools. I have outlined five of such tools every job seeker needs to have handy - on their phones.

1. Email app : this is a vital tool as it would be handy for sending and viewing emails be it applications or responses from prospective employers. Some recruitment agencies already cover this by having applicants create an online database such that they can apply for a role without necessarily using a personal email but every CV carries ones email. Another reason to have this is because most job listing sites deliver their feeds directly to emails.
It is pointless, more expensive and more time wasting to visit a cyber cafe just so as to check ones mail when you can do same in the comfort of your room anytime when you have the app on your phone.
Gmail and Yahoo mail apps are available for download and installation on Google Play, most phones now even come preinstalled with them. In this age of technology, an email is a must have tool for productivity.

2. Office Suite: The average applicant would need to create, edit or even re-edit documents ranging from resume to cover letter. Having to use a computer for all these can prove stressful especially when a simple mobile app can solve this. You can edit any document on the go and even get it printed anytime you want. This also makes submitting applications way easy.
A trick I employ is to create a template CV and cover letter that I edit having read through any new vacancy I pick interest in. My documents are always ready.

3. Mobile Browser: It sounds really lame putting this BUT I have discovered that many job seekers have not learnt how to maximise Opera Mini, Google Chrome, UC browser or even the usual browser that comes with their phones. They just read, open new tabs, search, etc.
You can enjoy extra benefits like
You can save each vacancy you fancy - most browsers come with a "save page" sub function.
Copy and paste. Example, you can copy keywords from each job requirement and use same on your resume or cover letter.
You can share directly any new job opening to friends using the share option to Facebook, Twitter, email, by text and event BBM or Whatsapp.
Such sharing functions can really be helpful to job seekers in their hunt.

4. Social Media Apps: Social media is fast changing how we communicate. The medium is expanding, social media encompasses popular sites like Facebook, twitter, emailing, chatting toola etc.
All job seekers should install social media applications on their mobile phones. They can use this to carry out various functions like
View/like company pages.
Share opportunities to their own networks of friends.
Connect to professional bodies and groups.
Applying for advertised jobs... the list goes on.
Some employees now look through one's social media profile in their recruitment process.
One major app job seekers really need to have is LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the worlds largest social media site for professionaks, this means that majority of the companies we want to work for are already on it. Research also shows that more employers are now posting their job ads on LinkedIn. You should consider having a LinkedIn profile as well as an app.

5. Online Recruiters app: Such apps allows you to view/edit your account. It also allows you to view and apply for available jobs. This is relatively new in Nigeria. To my knowledge, only Jobberman has something of this nature presently, hopefully others would launch theirs soon.

Searching for a job can be time consuming and tiresome, but the efforts would be worth it when one gets that dream job. I am not relenting in my search, am even thinking of innovative ways to go about it, you should be doing same.
While you are avidly job hunting, don't stay idle, get busy and keep hope alive.

After waking early in the morning so she can anoint her dead master, she arrived to meet an empty tomb. What disappointment, her hope must have been seriously dashed. Mary could have taken a quick retreat home, she could have walked back home slowly musing over her loss.
BUT NO she didn’t. This raises the first question for us today, what do we do when we encounter our difficult moments, when we meet our red seas or river Jordan. What is our reaction when all our hope in Jesus is dashed because He is not around? Do we beat a retreat, do we run or are we rash and impatient like King Saul who did the abominable.
Lesson: Mary quietly sat at the tomb crying and praying her master returns. Kindly note that she didn’t go home to pray, she remained at the tomb, the site where her master had been planted. If she had gone home, she would have joined the other ladies at the Martha ministry – soon to forget her real burden of seeing her master. Food and all other cares of men would have killed her true quest. SO she sat and cried (it seems at times there is potency in crying: consider Mary, Lazarus’ sister, and other noble women who have cried to the Lord). This shows that that our wait at the tomb should not be to pay lip service. We are to cry (in prayer and the word) remembering our master of His promise to us. This reminds me of why God was constantly angry with the Israelites on the Exodus from Egypt, when they met obstacles, the next step was to
1. Cry
2. Mumble at Moses and God
3. Demand a return back to Egypt

May we learn from their folly while gleaning from Mary’s wisdom (which is foolishness in itself) and get wise.
Another point is her enthusiasm and hope, such that a gardener may have access to His body. The lesson here si that in the times of waiting we must not be judgmental, thinking no one can offer a solution. Mary hoped a gardener could help; she didn’t know that this gardener was her Rabbi and master. How we have lost God’s visit by our shallow perceptions and desires. Mind you, it was the Lord who reached Mary via a call. That was the key that unlocked her, while waiting our focus should be on the Lord, ONLY he has the key to unlock us. (Not the vessel or character he uses).
Finally Lesson: Mary came bearing anointing vase, she left bearing an announcement. What do you come to seek at his presence, have you come to anoint him with your money, cars, fame, etc. I see here that heavens interest for us is not that we anoint an already glorified Jesus, rather it is to Pick a message. When we meet Jesus, he gives us a message to carry. His messages are like wings we can use to fly through life. His interest is the message, we may come with anointing, but God makes sure we leave with a message. Hab 2: 2, something we can run with. If Mary came walking swiftly, she left the tomb running as fast as her heart could carry her.
I pray for you my readers, That God give you a message you will run with in Jesus Name.

These are personal proven step wise guards and approaches that i have used time and time again to achieve success in some of my exams. i hope you find it resourceful
The surest way to win a race is to run according to rules, if you understand the principles that guide how a machine works you will be able to use it to achieve your goal. I hope to help you understand the timeless principles of cramming and also to set guides to successfully cramming anything whether for a test, an exam, a presentation, an interview or just for fun.
• REST
Before you venture into cramming anything rest is very important. Since you brain would be doing so much work, its needs to get strength before you begin, so get a good rest a night before. Sleep a good comfortable nine hour sleep.
• EAT
The trick here is NEVER to eat heavy food, cook something nice for yourself and eat and also take along some fries, snacks, fruits maybe a drink- no beer please along. Snacks are very light food and can confortable stay in your back pack. If you choose to do your reading at night, take coffee along.
• DRAW A READING PLAN: don’t just set out and start reading anything, be purposeful and focused. If you have a test tomorrow, take out your note and create a reading schedule. Also clearly outline and breakdown your reading, I mean look through and choose the area you want to read about.
• LOCATION! LOCATION: not everywhere or anywhere is good for effective reading. Your location for cramming must meet the following criteria;

Common problems students face with study include how to study effectively, coping with the amount of reading , how to manage your time, avoiding procrastination and distractions, and improving your concentration.
Working to a revision timetable helps you to make clear goals of attainment for each ... The connection between the brain and the hand is a way of helping you to stay in ... Rather than simply reading, break out the other possible ways for getting information to stick in your mind.


A time table is a schedule or plan created in which time is allocated to activities. A reading timetable allocates time to reading.
Effective study and success at university
There's no one way that will always produce the best results for students. It's more about determination than great intelligence! Success has more to do with well developed study skills than intellectual ability.
Below are some suggestions for effective studying practices but it's up to you to find the methods and strategies that work best.
Common problems that students face with study include:
procrastination and distractions
time management
lack of a dedicated study space
disinterest in a subject
lack of concentration
coping with the amount of reading
Procrastination
Only you are totally responsible for using your time in the most productive way. Once you own up to the fact that you are just putting things off (beware because procrastination can masquerade in a thousand different guises), then you're in a better position to control your actions. Don't create a barrier by thinking of your study as an obstacle to be overcome but as a challenge to take up. Find practical ways to increase your motivation and then practise them so that the time you spend studying is quality time.
Distractions
Develop strategies to realistically manage the distractions and interruptions that are bound to arise in any busy person's schedule. For example:
close the door
turn off the mobile phone
prepare a schedule for your study session with beginning and ending times
take strategic study breaks so you can still pay bills, go to the gym, pick children up from school and make important phone calls
keep a blank 'procrastination pad' on the desk for jotting to remind you to think more about non-study things later, afteryour study period.
Having a recognised space for your study, and asking family and friends to respect your study times and place, will go a long way towards minimising uninvited distractions.
Time Management
A general rule of thumb is that for each subject you are enrolled in, you will need to spend at least 8-12 hours of independent study time each week. This time commitment will increase during assignment preparation and exam revision.
As a student juggling work, study, family and social commitments, your time is limited and valuable. This is where a schedule or timetable can be useful.
When deciding how to allocate your time:
take the time to plan and do it regularly, say once each week
allow adequate periods of time for learning new material, understanding theories and concepts, or drafting an assignment
use short periods (15 minutes) when beginning or ending a scheduled study session to review previous learning
rise 15 minutes earlier and go to bed 15 minutes later each day
reward yourself for achieving daily and/or weekly study goals
timetable more challenging tasks for when you are most alert and able to concentrate
study regularly - daily if possible
set achievable study goals.
Managing your study time
Create a study schedule/timetable where you allocate time for each subject and assessment. This can assist you by taking the pressure off and help you decide how much time you have for other activities.
begin major projects ahead of time - break the task into a number of sub-tasks
be realistic - for example if you are a 'night owl' planning to study in the early morning may be unrealistic
generally organise your timetable into 50 minute study periods with 10 minute breaks
be specific about what you want to achieve in each study period. Rather than just allocating two hours of study each night, be specific about the study tasks to be done within the time available.
Dedicated study space
A dedicated workspace for study is both a physical and psychological necessity. Regardless of whether you find a tidy study area essential, or you can function among apparent chaos, you'll benefit from creating a physical space where you can keep study material, notes and textbooks organised.
Find a place at home, somewhere quiet on campus, or even a spot you have negotiated with a friend or relative at their place, and begin to 'own' it as your's for study. Aim to have only things you need on your desk, keeping it clear of things which might distract you from study. Devote your workspace solely to study so that each session will make it easier to settle down to some concentrated study.
Disinterest
Most students will find that they have at least one subject they're not keen on but the subject still has to be tackled to meet graduation requirements. You owe it to yourself to do your best. Stay motivated and maintain a positive attitude towards your studies by:
tackling the readings and assignments for this subject first in your study schedule
treating the topic seriously, accepting the difficulty or the uninteresting nature of the subject matter as a challenge, and reward yourself for completing a reading or spending a productive hour on the subject.
keeping a running record of your study times and achievements in the subject and measuring your performance against previously stated goals.
Reading
One of the challenges at university is the amount of reading you will have to do. At first, this can seem overwhelming. However, there are a range of strategies you can apply to help you to read faster and to remember more of what you have read.
Reading is much more than having a whole lot of words pass before your eyes. Trying to master the topic by doing a lot of reading may be going about things the hard way. Instead, try to:
Identify the purpose. Before you start reading, you need to know your purpose for reading a particular text. Often too much concentrated reading, without any real purpose, can cause information overload. Think about the questions you're trying to answer and the reasons for reading the text.
Skim. Read the text for the main ideas. Don't worry about remembering all the examples or the unimportant information. This kind of reading is usually quite sufficient for pre-reading for lectures, if you want to prepare yourself for discussions in tutorials, or see if an article is relevant for your research.
Scan. Read for specific information you need for an essay or report. For example, if you are doing research and you are looking for some specific information to back up a statement you have made, you don't have to read every word. Take in the headings, briefly read any introduction or conclusion, and check the first sentences of main paragraphs (often the topic sentence), along with any charts and diagrams in the main text to pick up on leading themes.
Highlight. As you read in more detail, digest the things that you can understand. You might choose to highlight, circle or underline key words and concepts.
Take notes, or create a concept/mind map. Take brief notes without letting yourself get bogged down in the difficult passages of the text, or draw a visual representation of the ideas, concepts and themes to help define relationships between them.
Review. Get into the habit of reviewing readings, notes, or your assignment task immediatelyafter a study period (rather than at some later date). This will be helpful in your grasp of the subject matter and also in retaining information.
Concentration
You need to recognise that study is hard work, and therefore it's important for you to keep up a balanced diet with proper amounts of rest and periods of relaxation to study effectively.

NEGOTIATING THE NEXT BEND : CHOOSING A CAREER PATH.

Ask any graduating senior and they will tell you that choosing a career, while an exciting prospect, is also terribly stressful. After all, once the safety of academia disappears, you’re on your own, often pursuing a job that matches your educational experience. We’re all told that we can be anything we want to be, and that’s true. But the part that’s often left out is the difficult road we must travel to get there.
When choosing a career path, keep in mind the acronym VISE:
Values
Interests
Skills
Environment
These four factors, considered in that order, can help you determine the best career path for you. But there are many traps along the way, ones that can lead you on the wrong career path.
Here are the six worst ways to pick a career and tips to avoid them:
1. Picking a career because everyone says you'll be good at it.
It’s flattering when friends pump your ego by saying that you’re funny or talented or super smart. But translating those skills into a career might be more difficult than you’d expect. And will you still enjoy that task when you’re doing it at work 40 hours a week? Plenty of people are good writers, for example, but don’t want the pressure of producing written work on a regular basis.
The Solution: If you think you have a strong skill, show it off to people who are already successful in that field. They’re more qualified to assess your ability than friends and family. It’s almost always possible to find someone who works in the industry you’d like to work in. Don’t hesitate to contact them and ask whether your skills would translate to the working world. 2. Picking a career for perks or pay.
Choosing work around a schedule or how much money you’ll make rather than whether you’ll be good at it or enjoy the work means you’ve found a job—not a career. Teachers, for example, may choose the profession to have summers off and a liberal vacation schedule, but does that mean they’re good in the classroom? If you’re lucky, you’ll land in a career that does offer certain perks, but picking a job because of them is not a good idea.
The Solution: Before embarking on a career path, write out a list of pros and cons. Assign a percentage of importance to each item on the list. If the perks are worth more than the job itself, it’s probably a good idea to look for another career. Your appreciation of those bells and whistles may wear off eventually, but what you do every day, the work involved, will affect you for the long haul.
3. Picking a career you think you’ll like without interning in the field.
Try it before you buy it. If you haven’t had extended exposure to the career you’re interested in, then you’re probably not ready to make the leap. Choosing a career is not the time for guesswork.
The Solution: Find an internship before you commit to a certain career through education or a full-time job. It’s easier—and more important—than ever before to work as an intern before you make big career decisions.
If you can’t land an internship, find a way to connect with people doing that job. Join online networking groups for that industry. Ask a connected friend or relative to put you in touch with people who work in the field. Or find another creative way to give yourself a sneak peek of what the job really entails.

4. Picking a career because it will impress others.
The grass is always greener. Choosing a career to impress other people—your friends, family, or even an enemy—is a recipe for unhappiness. Think about how much time you spend at a job. Is it worth entering that profession simply to impress certain people?

Ever notice how temporary situations often become permanent? Life is complicated, and it’s easy to get trapped in a career you don’t like. You can always make changes, of course, but it’s easiest if you get it right from the start. Career transitions are challenging, especially after you’ve put significant effort into your initial job.
The Solution: Don’t apply for jobs until you’re confident that you know what you want to do. This might not be realistic if you have bills to pay or a family to support, but for some of us, it is possible to take some time to step back and re-evaluate. If you do choose a career you hope will be temporary, set a deadline for change and hold yourself accountable by sharing it with someone you trust.

6. Picking a career to make your parents happy.
The number of people who follow parents into a business or trade seems to be declining, but some offspring still join the family business for the wrong reasons. Yes, following in your parents’ footsteps may be good for your family, but it also has to be good for you.
The Solution: Alleviate pressure from your parents by establishing a strong party line as soon as possible and consistently reminding them that the family business is a great opportunity, but it may not be for you. Pursue your dream career, but also keep the family business in the back of your mind. Having that as a safety net may give you the courage you need to land an awesome gig.

TOPIC: Basics of Communication.
To communicate means to share or express ideas, feelings or information. Every single day we do one form of communication or the other, from saying hello to smiling to just plain sitting alone in one spot, it is all a way of (sharing, expressing) something.
I intend to show you the basics or foundation of any effective or successful communication.
Communication can take place by only one person, between two, three, a group or even an audience. All these scales have their unique challenges but one principle or basic still works for them all.
Two things happen whenever we choose to communicate:
1. Interaction: via speaking, writing, gestures, dressing etc.
2. Attention: via body signals, gestures, sounds or facial dispositions.

The basic feature of an effective communication is LISTENING. It is also the common ground or factor between interaction and attention. We as human desire these two things, but we find it had to really listen. Many misunderstanding has really come because we failed to listen. Listening goes beyond only what you do with your ears. Five Simple Techniques to Improve Your Memory and Retention

This may just be all that matters when you are faced with a situation, in an exam hall, in front of a person, your parents\, friends or even yourself. HOW WELL DO YOU REMEMBER THINGS.

An important aspect of studying and becoming an A grade student seriously borders on how well you can remember things after you have come across them or have been taught.

In this post, i intend to share with you just five quick steps to improving your retention capability.

Most of us might have complained about our memory one time or other. But some of you have been frequently complaining about your poor memory. When we generally talk about poor memory we are really talking about poor recollection. Recollection is possible only if the content is retained in memory. This is possible only if we have recorded it into memory. That is, unless we have not assimilated, we cannot recall at all. That is why William James and many others including mnemonists give emphasis to how we record things into our memory.


Even if we record something correctly in our memory, we may not be able to recall it. This is due to many reasons, the main reasons being problems in retention and stress.


Now let us discuss five simple techniques to improve memory: Four of these techniques are used to improve assimilation and thus to have longer retention. The last one is a simple strategy for recollection.

Chunking
Perhaps Chunking is the oldest method used in memorization. In this method, the items to be memorized are divided into small and easily memorizable chunks or groups. This method works best when the order of the items is not important.
This method is found to be particularly well suited for memorizing multi-digit numbers (eg., ID nos., telephone nos., etc.) and for committing complicated spellings to memory.
Example:
1. The number 472627607 may be memorized easily if it is grouped as 472, 627,607 or as 47, 26, 27,607.
These chunks may then be learned by rote. Learning and retention are much facilitated if you further explore the nos. by finding some relationship among these different chunks. Finding the digital root will also be helpful. The more explorations or relations you do, the better.

2. Words like mathematics may be divided into mat +he +mat +ics, Together may be divided into to + get + her; Important may be divided into im + port + ant. This technique will make us learn much faster.
3. The list Apple, cucumber, paper, ink, cabbage, banana, grapes, beans, stapler, orange can be better learned by rearranging and applying chunking as :-
Apple, banana, grapes, orange, cucumber, cabbage, beans, paper, ink, stapler
-- 4 fruits, 3 vegitables and 3 stationary items.

If possible, organize the material as meaningfully as you can and think out relationships among each group. This not only improves learnability and retention but also aids in faster and effortless recollection.
Psychologists doing research on Human Memory have found that the capacity of Short Term Memory (STM) for humans is 7± 2 that is from the range 5 to 9 items. So you should take care to keep the chunks you create within this limit.

Rhyming
This is also one of the popular and oldest methods in memorization. This technique makes use of the fact that we have a natural tendency to remember rhymes and rhythms. The following is a very popular example of application of this technique which almost all school students are familiar with.
"Thirty days haveth September
April, June and November
All the rest have thirty-one
February has twenty-eight alone
Except in leap year, then the time
When Febs days are twenty-nine."
If possible create rhymes like this and it will not only aid in improving your memory but in improving your creativity as well.
