Car Talk / Hello Nlanders; Please Help - Brain Box Issue by Excelinpages(m): 3:46pm On Aug 16, 2021
Hello, please I need your help.

I noticed that there is this clutch sound when I try to accelerate. The car slows down as it it wants to stop, then the sound and the car continues.

I had it scanned and the technician worked on it. The sound and issue still persisted.

Took it to a gear mech to check out and bought new gear box and all. On fixing, the gear mechanic said the bran box got fried. He got new brain box and same thing.

My dilemma now is I don't even understand how it started and what could possibly be the issue incase of next time.

A little history. - Car was bought Nigerian used.

Please any advice?

With the way the prices of goods keep rising, it really would make sense to set something aside every month towards the expenses in December or even January (you know as January dey be).

You killed a snake that could easily help you earn money by tourism.

We kill plenty money making opportunities in this country.

MEANWHILE IT would make sense to start saving 'small small' towards yuletide expenses oh. With the way Nigeria is going and the inflation doing anyhow, would it not make sense to save even 10K OR More every month towards December

If you save 10K monthly by December you would have 40K + Interest (more than you bank can ever give you for saving).

Make a smart choice.

Nairaland Ads / Re: My Experience With Nairaland Paid Ad by Excelinpages(m): 3:36pm On Jun 29, 2021
It may be that there were actual clicks but when the users saw or noticd it requested they open WhatsApp that they backed off.

Other things may have happened inbetween clicking here and eventually arriving on your WhatsApp channel.

Did you use any other link attribution method to track performance e.g Google UTM, bitly?

That can also he;p you drill down.

As a matter of principle, I always advice marketers to use a link attribution mechanism e.g link shortner or utm tags to monitor what is happening with the links.

P.S Once ran a fb traffic ad meant to drive user to my WhatsApp (I didn't do WhatsApp messaging ad direct beacuse of cost), the post has engagement and link clicks but nothing got to WhatsApp

Instead of blogging, go and learn and tech skill. Use blogging as a hobby.

That said, in all honesty, don't do the Diploma. It will be a waste of your time. A course in a poly for an OND is better than the diploma.

I learnt the hard way.
Business / Re: How To Save More Money As A Nigerian by Excelinpages(m): 3:52pm On Jun 18, 2021
Actually there is.

It may not be as high as 50% or 30% (which I consider as scam) but there are platforms that allow you earn as high as 13% on your savings.

13% is like 10X what you get from banks.

I know some people who save and live off their interest.

You can visit Octa by Page Financials. Here is their website www.octa.ng

Career / Three Things I Suggest You Should Do With Your CV When You Are Not Job Hunting. by Excelinpages(m): 11:26am On Apr 26, 2021
I bet you have not even looked at your CV since you got your current job. Usually we only remember our CVs when we want to start applying for a new job. I’ve been there and have learnt some hard lessons. I’ll be sharing with you three things I learned and now regularly do.

Here are three things I suggest you do with your CV when you are not job hunting.

1. Update it
This is one of the most important things you can do to your CV when in between jobs or not actually job hunting. Include new skills, certifications, courses and trainings and most especially new tools you’re not using.
As a rule of thumb, always update your CV once every quarter.

2. Digitize your CV.
But Jude, my CV is in Word and PDF format, what other form of digitization do I need? You see the thing is there are a ton of opportunity flying by without your knowledge and some recruiter may be looking out for somewhere with your competence. How do they find and gauge you when they can’t see your CV? The simple solution to this is to have an optimized LinkedIn profile. If you’re active on social media, ensuring your bio is linked to somewhere your resume can be seen also helps.

Pro Tip here: If you wish to make your CV digital, it is best to place it as a Personal Brand Kit Format. I’ll be sharing more on this in coming days.

3. Compare it
This is a big one for me. I have personally benefited from this the most. When you see a job post, one of the things to do is to quickly compare with your CV. This way, you can easily update and upgrade it because you will see new skills, job description, terminologies and certifications to either add to enrich your CV or learn to enrich yourself.

I hope these three tips have helped you?

What do you do with your CV when you are not job hunting? Please share with me, I’ll love to hear from you. You can share with me on Twitter.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Have You Ever Gotten A Job Through Linkedin, Share Your Experience by Excelinpages(m): 11:03am On Nov 17, 2020
My first job, I used LinkedIn to connect to the two principal partners. When I met them in person, I naturally flowed as if I knew them before.

My second job: I saw the ad on LinkedIn and followed through after it was recommended by a friend.

In between, I have been headhunted plenty times (I get up to three every year) and I also get invites to interview and jobs.

I also get request to recommend people or share within my professional network.

Does LinkedIn work? Yes it does but you'll need a good profile and you'll also need to always check the platform.

For such a talent, he needs to be more strategic in his growth.

Asides Roben, the likes of Messi and being a playmaker is something he should aspire to.

Autos / Getting My First Car - Please Share Advice by Excelinpages(m): 3:57pm On Nov 02, 2020
Hello fellow NLanders,

I plan to get my first car before the year ends.

I'll like a smart car ( I am a slim guy) so I don't fancy big bulky vehicles.

The roads in my side of Lagos are not so smooth, so ideally a high car works perfectly fine.

I am married so that needs to be factored in too.

My budget is between 1-1.3M

Gus, kindly recommend a good car and a budget range.

I appreciate it.

Thanks

Career / 5 Simple Ways To Learn A Skill Without Paying A Dime by Excelinpages(m): 2:30pm On Oct 13, 2020
The demand for skilled hands is growing by the day and the current output doesn’t look encouraging enough.

Well, all these excuses are about to become a thing of the past. You can acquire and develop a skill without paying a dime. Here are five simple ways to go about it.

1. By Leveraging Volunteer programs

Although this hasn’t caught up with our side of the world, it is gradually getting entry. I know you don’t want to work without getting paid, ok! what if you get paid skill wise, seems fair enough don’t you think, not to talk of added benefits like chances to network and to contribute your quota towards a cause or life. Here are some places to find volunteer programs in Nigeria

UN Volunteers
Volunteer In Nigeria
Churches and mosques
Old boys association, NYSC etc.
By the way, no one is stopping you from doing something all by yourself, self-volunteer programs do show your passionate and self-motivated side.

2. By Mentorship
This is another equally great way to learn. It’s like being taught a skill by a master. You actually get this teacher-student environment. Chances are that you may even be employed by your mentor or he/she could put in word for you. An important suggestion is that you chose a mentor who is vast in your desired career path.

3. By Taking Free Online Courses
This is the latest one and it’s buzzing in Nigeria. These free online classes are provided by organizations that believe learning without barrier or the fall walls of a classroom is possible. Funding is done via donations from partners guaranteeing that those who take the course pay nothing. Some even offer degrees in some courses. The only thing required is internet connection and time management. Here are great places to do online courses.

Alison
Coursera
Udemy
Free- Ed
Edex

4 Taking Advantage of Government or Entrepreneurial Training Incentives
The last method is to take advantage of government training/skill development incentives. Some of these trainings are provided by the government while others are privately sponsored. Most times they are geared towards entrepreneurial campaigns. Some also come along with a start-up capital incentive plus mentorship opportunity.

Here are a few to check
ParadigmInitiative Nigeria
SurePGIS scheme
Vocational centers at various LGA offices

5. Personal or Home Study
This is when you do your own thing your own way. All that is required is to get the right materials; text books online videos, DIY sites, eBooks etc and a good dosage of discipline. This method offers great flexibility and can be used alongside other methods, as I said you're going to need lots of self discipline to succeed in this, but its very possible.

Today's world is offering every form of learning in order to cure the deadly disease of ignorance. You cannot be left out, you can now actively participate, its free and all yours for the taking. Learning needs not be a burden any longer.
