[Quote] Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has commissioned the Agu Awka Power Sub-station in Awka. This is a joint project of the Federal, State and Local Government under the direct supervision of the Niger-Delta Power Holding Company Limited. While commissioning the project which is expected to ensure steady supply to Awka and environs, Governor Obi emphasized that the project will help the entrepreneurial spirit of the Anambra people to be motivated, and consequently help industrial activities to thrive in the state. He also expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan for his commitment to bringing about transformation in the power sector. Also briefing the audience at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. James Olowu not only assured of the usage of the best equipment in the project, he also commended the Anambra State Government for having invested a lot in the project. The Managing Director then took the Governor round the facility, through the control room that has 33KVA Panels which is the power house of the substation. In a similar development, Governor Peter Obi has also handed over to 58 directors in the Anambra State Civil Service, cars for their daily operation and running of their different departments. The directors described the gesture as unprecedented and that it has rekindled in them the hope that they are part and parcel of the present administration. The keys to the vehicles were handed over to the Anambra State Head of Civil Service, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke. The fact that former President Obasanjo's kitchen staff poisoned late Yar Adua doesn't mean Obasanjo was responsible for the poisoning. The cooks might have carried out this evil act on their own volition. |

Politics › U.S Consul-general Urges Nigerian Youths To Take Responsiblity For 2015 Election by excell12go(op): 2:21pm On Nov 20, 2013 |
Nigerians have again been advised to safeguard democracy and ensure that the country has free and fair polls in 2015.
This charge is from the U.S. Consul-General in Lagos, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins, who was the keynote speaker at the 2013 Hubert Humphrey Annual Lecture, which held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos.
Delivering the keynote address at the lecture which had as its theme, ‘The Democratic Journey in Nigeria, Learning From the American Experience’, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins said the lecture was not meant to praise the US democratic system but an opportunity for Nigeria to learn from its shortcomings.
“As you all know for example, my country just went through a 2 week government shutdown, where civil servants were forced to sit home while all but essential government services ground to a halt. Many observers in the United States and overseas asked themselves how and why this could happen in one of the strongest democracies in the world.”
Speaking on Nigeria’s democratic process, he said “in 2015, Nigeria again will go to the ballot box and I call on the young men and women here to explore the abundant resources and great opportunities in the nation to take up responsibility to make your voices heard for peace and progress, to project a powerful voice against corruption, advocate for positive change, and provide generational insight on development issues.”
The chairman of the occasion was the National President of the Nigeria-America Chamber Of Commerce (NACC), Mr Sam Ohuabunwa, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Olabintan Famutimi.
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Programme is a programme for mid-career professionals, sponsored by the US State Department. The 2013 edition had professionals, security officials, diplomats, and students in attendance. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/11/19/u-s-consul-general-urges-nigerian-youths-to-take-responsibility-for-2015-election/ |

The difference between the winner and the first runner-up is just too wide. I don't think it can be bridged. Anyways, I'll b lieing if I say I'm not happy with the result. I just hope my fellow Yorubas on this forum(who are always fond of APC dis, APC dat) will shut their mouths and go to sleep. APC(Amalgamation of Political/Pathetic Criminals) isn't in any way better than the ruling party. They should better forget about 2015. |

Education › Is Social Network D Bane Of Moral&academc Decadence In Students? by excell12go(op): 12:39pm On Nov 16, 2013 |
My dad once revealed how blessed my generation is. According to him, there were no phones/computers available for students use in their days. All correspondence ws done through the post office, all asignments were solved using the few available textbooks. These days, Secondary school students now surf the internet for solutions to their assignments through their phones. But as blessed as this our generation is, so many students do not avail themselves of the opportunity this computer age presents. We see students '2going' in class, some have turned facebook to a dating network and so on. The big question at this juncture is 'is social network the bane of decadence in students' academic and moral performance?' |

How do d Ndigbos intend to rule this country if they do not want to form alliance with the oda ethnic groups? I am not a fan of APC, but I think d Igbos should find a way of alligning themselves with other political or ethnic groups...even if it's just for them to rule this country. Anyway, I support Ngige but dislike his party... |

So many articles have been written on the accreditation status of Houdegbe North America University, Benin Republic. Some say the institution has been accredited by the Federal ministry of Education(Nigeria); some say it is only accredited by the government of Benin Republic and not in Nigeria. It is not impossible that so many nigerian students have been led astray. Please nairalanders, kindly come to my aid as I'm at the verge of being a student of the institution. I don't want to waste 6 good years of my life. -Is the institution accredited bu NUC? -Are graduates of the institution allowed to serve in Nigeria(NYSC)? Please help me. In the event that they also do not meet the eligibility requirements, the five slots are opened up to candidates from other parts of Oyo State.
However, students who are children of BAT registered tobacco farmers are now being given the opportunity to apply for other courses asides from Agriculture.
