Politics › Godswill Akpabio Insist on Forensic Audit of NDDC by Exclusive101(op): 8:29am On Jul 15, 2020
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, said the present regime was committed to repositioning the Niger Delta Development Commission despite the grumblings being experienced.

The National Assembly has been probing the finances of the intervention agency with the exercise throwing up a lot of revelations.

The exercise had also thrown up counter-allegations between the minister and a former Managing Director of the commission, Joy Nunieh.

In a meeting with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, however, Akpabio who was asked to react to some of the accusations made against him by Nunieh said he would rather not discuss personalities but focus on the region.

The minister who promised to talk to the press at the appropriate time, said: “We are very determined to reposition the NDDC.”

The former Akwa Ibom State governor attributed the commission’s problem to what he called “years of endemic corruption.”

“The President is determined to be remembered as the President that cleaned up the place and I am committed to this,” the minister added.

He said the forensic auditors approved by the Federal Executive Council for the commission had started work with hundreds of documents made available to them and there was no going back.

The former Senate Minority Leader said the “grumblings” trailing the exercise were further confirmation that people do not like a change in the status quo.

He insisted that the forensic audit was not meant to witch-hunt but to reposition the commission.

He said as a stakeholder in the Niger Delta, he was personally not impressed with the activities of the NDDC while he was a governor and a senator.

He said that was why it remains one of his priorities after being appointed as the minister overseeing the commission to ensure that changes are made.

Akpabio said he would like to see the NDDC that will construct good roads, bridges and other infrastructure in the Niger Delta and operate from its headquarters rather than a commission that will be paying rents for offices and buying expensive cars for its officials.

He added, “l will like to see roads, bridges and other infrastructure in Niger Delta. I will like to see a region where employment opportunities abound; I will like to see an end to amnesty where ex-militants will have jobs and not be relying on stipends.

“I will like to see Niger Delta rice and water being sold. I will like to see Niger Delta specialist hospitals.

“I will like to see a commission that does not pay for hotels but has its own guest house; a commission that does not pay rent for its headquarters; a commission whose budget will cater for the people 100 per cent.

“As a minister, I am committed to these ideals but we cannot achieve them if a parastatal under me does not cooperate.”

On the alleged “missing” N40bn, the minister said, “Money could have been missing in those days when the commission has over 300 bank accounts.

“Now, there is only one account which is the Treasury Single Account domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“So, it is not possible for somebody to go and withdraw money anyhow.”

He said since he assumed office as the minister, he had only approved two contracts for the commission. He listed the two contracts as the appointment of forensic auditors and the COVID-19 intervention by the NDCC.

“Things must change. If you plant a seed, it must first die before it germinates.

“Change is coming up for the people of Niger Delta amidst the grumbling.

“We shall target things that concern the Niger Delta and will bring progress,” the minister concluded.

This is misplaced priority meant to tunnel public funds into few private pockets.
If the FG wants to be honest, with that $11Bn, they can build a Dangote sized refinery of 650,000 bpd and employ hundreds of thousands "gainfully", while making healthy profit that can help build another such refinery or start a more feasible and realistic rail project.
This is the most foolish comment among all the comment here. How many refineries have the FG built with Nigeria money n where are they today ?!

I guess the road in your father's state is being interlock by your state govt n not your father. Why wail of lagos being 10 times beta while no state is yet to be half beta.

Why don't your state get beta than Lagos so we can use it as a sample to insult Lagos. Pls foolish people like you disgust.

Is the state your father from not suppose to be 100 times beta if foolish PDP governor that looted the glory of you n your father n your unborn perform a qauter like lagos ?!

simplyshade:
Forget about the glitz and glamour. Lagos would have been ten times better without godfatherism. When Ambode was governor, projects were delivered with the speed of light (I don't care whether he followed party guidelines or gave those contracts to members of his family)

Ever since our dear Sanwo Olu assumed office, he has been moving at a snail's pace. Obviously because he has to take orders from one Ja......

Lagos State doesn't give back 10% of what it generates as revenue. We all know that, unless we want to pretend not to cheesy
Apart from roads on expresses, people interlock their own roads (a new normal :owhich is not supposed to be so) they drill their own boreholes in order to have access to portable water supply...need I say more?

Crime › EFCC Arraigns Suspected Internet Fraudster Over $8.5m Scam by Exclusive101(op): 8:49pm On Jun 30, 2020
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arraigned one Ikenna Onwuzuruike, also known as Jeff Sikora, before Justice A.T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Onwuzuruike, a self-styled president/chief executive officer of United States-based Prime Trust Credit Union Bank, was arraigned by the EFCC, Port Harcourt Zone on eight counts bordering on conspiracy, impersonation, forgery, possession of proceeds and obtaining money by false pretence.

The suspect was alleged to have swindled his victims to the tune of $8.5m. The offence contravenes Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.

The charge sheet partly read, “That you, Onwuzuruike Ikenna Kingsley (aka Jeff Sikora), on or about the 28th day of December, 2019, at Umuahia, Abia State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of $6,500,000 through web transfer from one Mr. Selah Elnagar Ali Ahmed, a citizen of the Arabic Republic of Egypt, with the pretence that he is a beneficiary of inheritance funds in a fixed deposit account of Prime Trust Financial Bank, USA, a pretext you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.” However, Onwuzuruike pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution counsel, M.T Iko, after listening to the plea by the defendant, prayed the court for a short adjournment. But the defense counsel, R.E. Wanogho, told the court of a pending application for the bail of the defendant.

Iko immediately announced his opposition to the application on the grounds that he was only “served this morning” and needed time to respond to it.

Justice Mohammed adjourned the matter to July 3, 2020 for hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded in EFCC custody.

US ex-cop pleads guilty to 13 murders, rapes
Onwuzuruike was apprehended following intelligence received by the EFCC on his alleged fraudulent activities.

This led to the arrest of the defendant on January 26, 2020 by the anti-graft agency at his residence along Uzuakoli Road, Umuahia, Abia State.

Investigations revealed that the suspect falsely presented himself as one Jeff Sikora, President/CEO of Prime Trust Credit Union Bank based in the United States of America with the intent to defraud his victims.

The defendant, who was said to have forged the identity card of the said Sikora, allegedly defrauded an Egyptian of the sum of $6,500,000.00 on the pretext that he was a beneficiary of Inheritance Funds in a fixed deposit account of Prime Trust Financial Bank.

The defendant also collected the sum of $2,000, which was transferred to him by his accomplice, one Obi Taxas (who is now at large) as part of his share of the heist.

Fire on Tuesday gutted a three-storey building at Nkpor in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The fire, it was gathered, began on the last floor of the building located near a hospital. A resident told our correspondent that the fire was caused by electricity surge.

“No death was recorded in the incident but property worth millions of naira were damaged in the inferno caused by power surge,” the source said. The Chief firefighter in the state, Martin Agbili, who confirmed the incident, corroborated that no life was lost.

He said his men were on ground to put out the fire from escalating to other floors. “The fire was caused by power surge. My men arrived at the scene almost immediately and were able to contain the fire,” he added.

Cherez:
Are you ok at all?
All state internally generated revenue doesn't go to the FG
In the current arrangement of Nigeria, the FG only takes control of it's own revenue source for example the APAPA wharf in Lagos is totally under the FG, LASG doesn't take control then pay to the FG
Now contribution to National coffers (which is our argument) by each state can only be done by ascertaining the revenue generating sources of the FG in each state.

Coming from a dullard who claim we should not check internal generated revenue to ascertain the wealth of a state I rather pass.

Direct your statement to foolish Igbos like you wey no get sense. Na your papa income tax I suppose go check to how wealthy a state is, Mr Foolish.

Cherez:
Bros in context, what you should search isn't absolute values of internally generated values for contribution to the state coffers.
The NGA govt owns ventures they make monies from rather than directly from state govt's
As per contribution to the national coffers what you should check is not state generated revenues

Just imagine the paragraph this foolish Igbo used to introduce Awolowo. This fool selling Azikwe as his alpha n omega had forgotten Azikwe had a superior, his superior who happens to Herbert Macaulay.

You. An clearly see how the bigoted Igbo evaded saying anything about Herbert Macaulay cos there is no well he'd with exposing the factAzikwe was subordinate to in all n every ramifications, be it in intelligence, achievement etc.

teufelein:
They began to be called "progressives" and "moderates" while Azikiwe and the nationalists were often described as "radical" and "extremist" in the British colonial press and official communications. It was in this period that Awolowo arrived: suddenly rich, powerful, and influential. From the bankrupted produce trader and newspaper reporter, and indigent law student in London, Awo came home suddenly, a successful newspaper publisher with a thriving law firm in Ibadan, and with money to organize politically in 1947. Where did it all come from? That's a question for another day.
