slawomir:I so much love this. Very clearly, the two of us have a lot in common. Your last four points got me. I'm a 4th year Uniben student. I am also very enterprising. I don't mind spending time with you once in a while. Most people I gist with are not positive minded. Thanks for sharing. |
topsquino:Hi, I'm top-rated on Upwork and have independent clients abroad but will love to have some regular local contracts. Do contact me via any channel on my signature. I've already tried contacting you through Nairaland but doubt if the email went through. Regards! |
derprince:Any clues as to how I can buy one? I need to diversify, and work with the best paying ones, Maxbounty and Peerfly. |
Funlordmaniac:Thanks I'll be careful |
Copist:Can you receive PayPal payments? Contact my via whatsapp with the number on my signature. You send first. It's just $100, to test your services though. If this works out well, I'll constantly use your services |
JAZES:What is your rate for PayPal payment now? |
tonyx4x44:Payment happens in about a day. I have once been paid in 10 minutes and another time, in 1hour. This is safer than using exchqngers, and Upwork's rates are not bad. It was 369.375/$ when I withdrew on Monday, and has been like that for weeks now |
WriteBoy:Thanks for this. I have also hammered on the relevance of using irresistible quality as a weapon of global freelancing success. I'd want to point out that success as a Nigerian will be "easier" as a web developer or e-commerce expert than as a freelance writer of the English language, and for apparent reasons. These, notwithstanding, due to persistence in delivering native-level quality content in English, I have had the privilege of editing, proofreading and writing for the owners of English themselves both in Australia, US and UK. To add to this, Upwork sends me a special job invitation every month, an arrangement that sees me pocket something worthwhile each time I complete any such jobs. I currently have clients that pay me ahead of time, and with steady work which adds up. I even chat with some on Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp!!! That's how much they will appreciate good service. As has been stated, invest in yourself first. I didn't have to struggle because I had excellent English teachers from KG1 - SSS3. You may have to pay to learn your chosen skill but be certain it WILL pay. LAST ADVICE: Get a small portfolio website and apply to companies directly. At the end of the day, the ultimate goal of FREElancing is FREEDOM. Freedom from 20% deductions and rules that don't always favour you. Regards!!! |
Tabbaz:Connect with me on whatsapp. |
mdoub:Read your article. You write well. Thanks for your response. |
mdoub:Brother, I don't understand why they'd suspend you for accepting small deals so long you don't work for free. I'd like to know how you do it on Craigslist and other places. Do you use a personal website or a fake account or something? I need a plan B bro. Upwork may do as they please anytime. |
Hi Everyone. I did mention some time ago that I'd soon be another addition to the growing number of Nigerians who rock Upwork as Top-rated freelancers even with the Nigerian flag. Interestingly, it happenned in December last year. This came with more invitations and jobs as you would expect. However, much to my dismay, most clients still want to pay peanuts. Although I am really good at negotiation, having successfully convinced clients who advertised $50 to pay four to five times the advertised amount, I still believe I can do better considering the amount so-called native speakers make. Summarily, can anyone suggest ways to make clients pay better? Even as I expect tips, I have some in other areas for fellow freelancers: 1. Bill your clients big time. If many of them pay higher for crap, why not make them pay really well for your golden services? 2. Don't beg for jobs. If possible, work for big firms or solopreneurs that have the cash to spare. Ignore Upwork agencies and broke clients who want you to be their wage slaves. 3. Understand industry rates. Don't accept $20 for a job of $80 due to ignorance, or simply because it will look reasonable when converted to Naira. Develop what I call DOLLAR MINDSET. I hope to receive the tips I asked for. PEACE!!! |
tripplephi:Basically, I need your input in my next book which promotes entrepreneurship among students. I'm done writing it but there's a chapter where I want to include quotes/opinions from graduates or current students that are involved in entrepreneurship. So, if you don't mind : 1. Do/did you make money in school as a student? 2. Do you endorse student entrepreneurship? 3. What solid advice do you have for students as it regards their financial future? 4. What are/were your biggest gains for engaging in entrepreneurial activities as a student (If you did) Thanks. The readers will be grateful. |
tripplephi:Triple, I need you honest opinion on an important issue I am currently researching about. It's basically about student financial productivity. If you'll spare me a little time, you will not only be doing current students a favour, but the future ones as well. Regards |
steve13:Hi Steve. Your comment really drew my attention big time. I'm working on a book that promotes entrepreneurship among students and would like to illustrate with students from various nations. I've interviewed some Nigerian students that think smart but I'm hoping you could help out with information on how Chinese students are doing it. Thanks as you respond. |
itiswellandwell:Thanks bro. I'm not paying anyone money here. I'll do it myself if I find it pragmatic. Again, thanks for watching out. |
lady2lady:Pardon my inquisition but selling e-books online sounds really cool to me. I have a few questions which I hope you'd help answer: 1. Are Nigerians the target or does it go beyond Nigeria? 2. These are self-help books, right? 3. Is an FB page necessary? Thanks. |

justi4jesu:I need your contact detailsas I need to sell some Paypal funds |
tonyx4x44:Congratulations for consistently delivering quality Tony!Hopefully, it cam with some extra connects. Like someone would say, "more dollars to your pocket". I am expecting mine by middle of next month. See you there! |
encrypt:Eagle eyes. "To" not "From". Thanks. |
Exoticstan:i will give you 4 Stars. Well done! |
Still here. Order before the hurry of the coming weeks takes all the extra time away. |
keep the the orders coming. Thanks for the patronage received already. |
Carmall:All payments will be made online via Uniben's official website. It has already started. You can do this from wherever you are, but if you are not clear or comfortable with it, you can come down to campus. |
A-Z of Uniben Online and Physical Clearance 2016/2017 Uniben clearance begins with the uploading of relevant documents to your student account on your Uniben Kofa account which you can access via https://uniben.waeup.org. Now let’s see the documents you will need to upload to begin your clearance: 1) Affidavit of Good Conduct (From any court in Nigeria) 2) Affidavit of non-membership of any Secret Cult (From any Nigerian court) 3) Acceptance letter 4) Guarantor’s letter 5) Birth certificate or a sworn declaration of age 6) Certificate of LGA of origin 7) O’ level result (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB/GCE) Original JAMB result slip9) Original JAMB admission letter. During online clearance, you scan and upload the above documents for about ₦1500 anywhere in Uniben, although we will process it for you at ₦1000 (Even for less if you come in group). When you are done uploading thee documents at the cyber cafe, you may proceed with the payment of acceptance fee with your Verve or Mastercard ATM card. The price of this fee is displayed on the screen once you click on pay acceptance fee. For students of medicine, dentistry, physiology, anatomy, medical biochemistry, medical laboratory science and nursing; it is ₦70,000. For most of the other science inclined students and art inclined students, it is ₦50,000. NOTE that a technology fee of ₦550 will be charged for the transaction. You will also need to fill in other details like date of birth, WAEC/NECO/NABTEB registration number et cetera. After a successful payment, download the payment receipt page which will be displayed. Now click on “Save and Request Clearance”. A two page document which contains the summary of all the data you have inputted previously will be displayed. This is the online clearance acknowledgement slip also known as the “Online Eligibility Slip”. Print this document and get ready for physical clearance. Additionally, you will be notified about when to come for physical clearance. Print the document too. Now you have to make five photocopies for each of the documents listed above and keep them in five different files. Get one file also to keep all of your original documents. This gives us a total of six files. Attach a small passport on each file and you are ready for physical clearance. Physical Clearance Physical clearance is very simple although it can get a bit longer if you miss some documents or make a mistake or if your clearance officer is slow. What they basically do is: Make sure that the documents you uploaded are the same with the ones you came with and that they are not fake. That there is consistency in all your documents; your gender, date of birth and names must be the same. That you are actually the one in the photos of your documents. After thorough scrutiny, they print and sign a new Original Eligibility Slip. This document is your most important document as a student of Uniben. Keep it safe. After this document is given to you, make five copies of it and place in your five other files. By now, you must have obtained six record files which will replace the six official files you have been carrying about. Your clearance officer will direct you to the offices where you will submit all record files except the one containing the original documents (It is your personal copy. Keep it safe). These offices include the University Admission Office, your faculty (faculty clearance) and your department (departmental clearance). Others After being cleared, you Kofa account will display “Cleared”. After this, a link will be displayed for school fee payment and after paying for school fees, you may quickly proceed with hostel applications if you want to stay in hostel. You will also be able to register your courses online. UPLOAD THE RIGHT AND CONSISTENT INFORMATION IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A FAST AND SMOOTH CLEARANCE!!! Welcome to Uniben! Success! |
On the issue of trying to outsmart Upwork and their system, the simple truth is that you CAN'T; at least not for long. They will identify and eliminate you soon. Do the right thing and get the rewards. I still insist that if you do your thing well: 1. Clients will keep inviting you to jobs (This converts faster to offers than applications) 2. They will still offer you contracts despite your nationality or race. Again, I believe Upwork is the best paying freelancing website out there. If these lazy individuals mess the system up for us, the repercussions will be intense on the perpetrators. This is why: 1. Seasoned freelancers have already established a database of trusted, well-paying clients over the years. Do this if you haven't already. 2. Some real freelancers know where and how to source for contracts. 3. Some others have a regular side business. 4. No other site has more 'generous' clients: Fiverr, Truelancer, Guru, Freelancer, you name it. Last words. As you strive to succeed on global freelancing platforms, do not hesitate to work for fellow Nigerians who've got some jobs. In recent times, I noticed that, my weekly income from local freelancing is even trying to rank with online earnings. |
