Boko Haram insurrection in the country under surveillance. Saturday PUNCH investigations showed that the action followed new revelations that more politicians were behind the serial bombings being carried out by Boko Haram in the country. The intensified surveillance follows the arrest of Senator Ali Ndume, who was fingered by the self-acclaimed spokesman for the Boko Haram sect, Ali Konduga. Konduga was sentenced to a jail term of three years on Tuesday in Abuja. A security source who confided in our correspondent said that it was the thinking in high security circles that that highly-placed politicians were creating the space for foreign elements to carry out the recorded killings and bombings. The source said that the list of politicians under surveillance included some serving members of the National Assembly. It was learnt that the security operatives were only waiting for more concrete evidence before moving against such politicians suspected to have a hand in the raging Boko Haram security threat. The source said that more arrests would have followed shortly after Ndume was arraigned but for the fact that the leadership of the nation’s security agencies were wary of apprehending suspects only to release them after a public outcry due to lack of evidence. Obasanjo Left Legacy Of Corruption, Electoral Fraud – Tinubu Tinubu told journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, that Obasanjo should "retire in shame politically." The Action Congress of Nigeria leader was reacting to comments reportedly made by Obasanjo over ACN’s allegation of scientific rigging in Kogi State by the Peoples Democratic Party. Tinubu said, "What integrity has Obasanjo in terms of the legacy he has for Nigeria to speak on elections? The only election that was clear in this country was when we started the Fourth Republic. "Every one of us knows that. They got rid of Abel Guobadia, Iwu. The worst legacy in electoral practice was led by Obasanjo. "He has no reason whatsoever and he has no audacity to talk about free and fair election in this country apart from his aborted third term election. "He brought about and left a legacy of electoral corruption in the country to the extent that his successor had to set up the Justice Mohamemd Uwais panel, but instead of implementing Uwais’ report comprehensively and improve on the elections, they stage- managed and side-tracked that report. They implemented only one or two items. "What is Obasanjo talking about? He should go away and retire in shame politically because he brought a whole salad of corruption, manipulation and failure." Tinubu said his party would contest PDP’s victory in Kogi State in court. Source www.punchng.com/index.php/news/item/7267-obasanjo-left-legacy-of-corruption-electoral-fraud-–tinubu |

"It should never be a crime to be gay" Mrs Clinton said at the United Nations in Geneva, adding that a country's cultural or religious traditions was no excuse for discrimination. Her audience included representatives from countries where homosexuality is a criminal offence. Many ambassadors rushed out of the room as soon as Mrs Clinton finished speaking, the Associated Press news agency reported. 'Human reality' The announcement, cited by the White House as the "first US government strategy to combat human rights abuses against gays and lesbians abroad", is also being seen as part of the Obama administration's outreach to gays and lesbians ahead of the 2012 election. The official memorandum does not outline consequences for countries with poor records on gay rights. But it allows US agencies working abroad to consult with international organisations on discrimination. "Gay people are born into and belong to every society in the world," Mrs Clinton said in Geneva. "Being gay is not a Western invention. It is a human reality." |

well, i think that motion is ok. only if there i goin to b a proper cordination of the jamb exam. bcus some candidate through impasination and cheating merit the exam but they cant defend it. to me i dont blame those paverted and corrupt lacturals that frauds admission lists, bcus if there is a serious sanction for any body caught frauding admission list, i think that will serve as a deterrent to others not to do that, thereby forcing the students to study hard to pass independently. |
The Senate has mandated its Committee on Education to commence an investigation into the conduct of Post-UME test by Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions in the country. Most senators spoke vehemently against the test, saying it had put to question the credibility of the examinations conducted by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board annually. The resolution to probe the test came after the Senate debated a motion brought by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and 35 other senators highlighting the anomalies in the activities of the universities. Lokpobiri noted that JAMB had been empowered by law to conduct tertiary examinations institutions in the country. He said various universities charged fees and subject candidates to a series of tests and interviews which most often take several days to conclude. He said, “This is a great cost to parents and guardians and a clear violation of JAMB Act. Our children are also subjected to avoidable inconveniences and risks. “Now that JAMB is alive to its responsibilities as provided by law, there will be no reason whatsoever to subject candidates to another round of illegal test at great cost and its other attendant consequences.” c ontinue reading from www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2011101419537 |
