Celebrities › An Open Letter To Tonto Dikeh From An Igbo Man (READ) by expertman(op): 5:22pm On Apr 27, 2013
Dear Tonto Dikeh,

I know you feel beautiful this morning! Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. For me, you are nowhere near ‘beautiful’. You are just there. But before I tell you what I really want to tell you, I need to tell you something. There is a lady called Adele. She is a singer. She sings. I need to explain what a singer means, because I understand that you have no brain at all. Because I hate sugar-coating, I am hated by a lot of people. You are just like me too. I will understand when people hate you, but, seriously, if you think Igbo men are nosy, then, you are right. That is your opinion and you must protect it.

I am an Igbo man. I will defend myself right now. Back to Adele. I will tell you everything about this young lady who transformed herself into something very beautiful in the eyes of men. I also understand that you don’t know her, but it won’t hurt if I tell you about her now. This is what TIME magazine wrote about her few days ago: “As talented and appealing as she is, few could foresee how utterly dominant Adele would be in 2011: in an era where even the highest-tier musical acts can struggle to move records, her sophomore effort, 21, sold 17 million copies worldwide and spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, the longest for any record since 1998's Titanic sound track. Combined with sales of her previous album, 19, Adele has topped the U.K. charts for 21 weeks — a feat matched only by the bands Oasis and Queen.” Tonto nne m, Adele is 23. You are older. She is not worried about her future. You are. She is focused about her music.

You are worried that no Igbo man will marry you after you’ve created yourself into a bamboo stick. Truth is that I don’t know you personally, but you’ve created a strong mystery around yourself. People see you as a soul from hell. They say you’ve sold your soul to the devil. Me, I don’t know where the devil lives, but I think you have. You even went ahead to show us tattoos at your back. I just didn’t understand why you did that. As an Igbo man, I will never marry a woman who has shown the entire world ‘my tattoos.’ It is not good. I am an Igbo man, so I will
need to know who snapped the picture. Maybe, your secret boyfriend? This is the reason why we are bad, abi? Adele doesn’t go around seeking attention. She doesn’t pay anyone to publish pictures of her tattoos. Who knows? She may just have a lot of them. I haven’t seen them. I have seen yours.

There is nothing wrong in you tattooing your entire body, but what is my business with that? Are you not supposed to be an actress? Of course, I understand that you appear in pornographic films now? That is good. At least, you are doing what you know best. But to pick on Igbo men? This is very unacceptable. You insulted a lot of us. This simply shows how unintelligent you are towards anthropology. Men are the same all over the world. Igbo man, Yoruba man, Hausa man. We all treat women in similar ways. We love unconditionally. And we all become nosy when our women start acting like you. If your father is an Igbo man, dearest Tonto Dikeh, you are a monkey. But I will be sorry if you didn’t say that. I only rely on the media, since I don’t know you
personally. If you didn’t say it, Tonto, I am very sorry. I will publicly apologise. Yet, I believe you did, because you do so many things after marijuana. If it’s not good for your brain, stop smoking. Listen to Adele’s Someone Like You and you will feel good.

I don’t look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Onyeka Nwelue

Nairaland General › 9 JAMB Candidates Die In Accident by expertman(op): 5:13pm On Apr 27, 2013
Jamb Accident

No fewer than nine candidates going to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations today were feared dead in an auto crash on the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.

Ogbonna said that the driver of the bus rammed into a truck with with registration number Lagos XC 109 SLK, parked off the road.

He said that the accident occurred at Obeaku-Ihie in the Ugwunagbor Local Government Area of Abia at about 10.40 a.m.

Ogbonna said that the dead had been deposited at the mortuary while six survivors of the accident were in critical condition and receiving medical attention in a hospital Aba.

He said that the 15 seater-bus, was conveying mainly people, going to sit for the JAMB examination, slated for 27 April.

According to him, the clue comes from the items recovered at the scene of the accident.

A witness, Mr Peter Okolo, attributed the accident to over-speeding and recklessness on the part of the driver.

He said that the driver lost control of the vehicle when he wanted to overtake a vehicle in front of him.

“When he saw an upcoming vehicle while he was over-taking the car in front of him, he veered off the road and then rammed into the truck parked off the road,” Okolo said.

Politics › Ogun State Government Again Gives Succour To The Family Of Dead Police Officer by expertman(op): 1:07pm On Apr 27, 2013
OGSG AGAIN GIVES SUCCOUR TO THE FAMILY OF DEAD POLICE OFFICER

The Ogun State Government today gave an additional cash donation of one million naira to the family of Mr. Sunday Joseph Sunday, a police corporal who was electrocuted recently at Isale Igbein in Abeokuta.

Earlier during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased shortly after the incident, the State Government had made a donation of N.5m to help defray his burial expenses.

Handing over the cash to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye at the Oke-Mosan Governor’s office, Consultant to the Governor on Security, Mr. Olayinka Balogun said the donation was a fulfillment of an earlier promise made by the Government to continue seeing to the welfare of the family of the deceased police officer.

Mr. Balogun, himself a retired Commissioner of Police noted that the deceased was during his life time a gallant officer, assuring that as a responsive and responsible government, the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in the State remained committed to the welfare and wellbeing of all officers serving in the State.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Police, represented by the Abeokuta Area Commander, Mr. Anthony Ekong thanked the Government for the kind gesture.

“On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the State Commissioner, we thank the Governor for this kind gesture. He is a police-friendly Governor who has been coming to our needs. He keeps to his promises and meets them at the appropriate time” he said.

Responding on behalf of family, an elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Emmanuel Angbulu commended the Government for standing by them during their trying times, noting that the family had been comforted by the humanitarian gesture received from it.

Aged 35, Corporal Sunday Joseph died last month while trying to rescue his 15 year old nephew, Jeremiah Sunday who had earlier been electrocuted.

Are you happy to be home; would you settle in Nigeria or you would finally settle abroad?

This will always be home for me, at least, it’s comforting to know one is with family, and I am glad to be home. I missed home, mum and dad.

Things may not be what it should be, but home is it. There were too many things I took for granted before I left, but now I know better.

When I’m done with schooling, I will be back home, to do my own thing too, even though, the weather is killing me right now”.

Nairaland General › Out Of Control: Nigerian Men Killing Their Wives by expertman(op): 12:18pm On Apr 27, 2013
Headlines in Nigerian papers today is the story of a 46-year-old unemployed man, who on October 7, at Agbado in Ogun state of Nigeria was arrested for allegedly killing his wife by throwing her into a pit latrine over a domestic misunderstanding. That’s a raw dudu pit!

This is just the latest case in the chronic saga of Nigerians killing their wives at home and abroad.

The many spontaneous killings, unlike honor killings which are most rampant in Nations around the world, from Asia to South America, can more accurately be considered as crimes of passion, but some disturbingly are executed with scary premeditation and careful planning.

NewsRescue investigated the trends and distribution of these murders and found some thought and discussion provoking trends.

Pit Latrine: Traditional non water-flushed toilet

Nigeria with a population of 150 million, is Africa’s most populous nation. The country has over 500 ethnic groups, but of these, the three largest and loudest, are the Hausa’s up North, The Yoruba’s in the South west and the Igbo’s in the south east.

Cases of wife murder like the one above are almost exclusively relegated to the southern ethnic groups, with the Igbo’s being culprit in 9 in 10 cases.

What makes this sad habit so common among the Igbo’s has been a topic of hot debate for many years in Nigerian internet fora. Some have attributed the problem to an Igbo culture that places a humongous bride price on women, and after the men cough out fortunes to marry, they tend to regard their spouses as ‘property’, they have bought, hence having a very low tolerance during domestic conflict.

A commentator reacting passionately, said, ‘only people who do not know God will do such’, they have abandoned God, this is why!’

We are unable to test and correlate religion type or the lack of it with crime in general and domestic violence and spousal murder in particular.

Politics › Anambra 2014: Ngige, Ekwunife, Ubah Begin Mobilisation by expertman(op):
Ahead of the governorship election in Anambra State, there are four top contenders aspiring to succeed Governor Peter Obi. They have been campaigning across the 21 local government areas.

The aspirants are former Governor Chris Ngige, who is representing the Central District in the Senate, House of Representatives member from the Anaocha,/Njikoka/Dunukofia Constituency Hon. Uche Ekwunife, Senator Andy Uba, and the businessman, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah.

Ngige is contesting on the platform of the Action congress of Nigeria (ACN). Ekwunife and Ubah belong to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Uba is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Other light weight aspirants are playing hide and seek game. The only thing that shows that they are scheming for the position is that they are collecting chieftaincy titles in the communities.

Ekwunife has set up her campaign teams in three local governments; Anaocha, Njikoka, and Dunukofia. She told our correspondent that the campaign teams for other councils would be inaugurated next week. The federal legislator has already branded her campaign vehicles.

Also, Ngige has declared that he was battle ready. Already, the ACN senator had doled out over N300 million to his followers. He also gave the party and many supporters cars and money.

Besides, Ngige and Ekwunife had held consultations with the traditional rulers in the 21 local governments on their ambitions. They said that since they would not contest the poll in the Diaspora, they had to be close to the communities.

Ngige said: “It is operation totality and earth quake. I do not need any further introduction in the state and I believe in doing things early enough.”

Ekwunife said: “My brother, delay is dangerous. Some of us who are close to our people should be able to tell them where we are going, what we are doing. I see no reason why I should be contesting election in Anambra and I will be staying in Abuja everyday. But I will love to attend to the sittings in the House of Representatives. That is the only thing to keep me there”.

-U.S. condemns Borno massacre

-Senate: it’s unacceptable

-ACN, CPC warn against killings

-North’s elders call for inquiry

THERE was outrage yesterday over the killing of 185 people in Baga, a border community in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Among those who condemned the wanton destruction of lives and properties were the United States, North’s elders, the National Assembly and political parties.

Patrick Ventrell, the acting Deputy State Department spokesman, said: “The United States thus condmen the violence that took the lives of so many innocent civilians in Baga, Borno State.”

The Senate described the killings of hundreds of Nigerians as unacceptable and mandated its Committees on Defence, Police and National Security and Intelligence to investigate the incident.

It gave the committee members 14 days to table their report before the plenary for consideration.

The Senate’s decision followed a motion sponsored by Senator Maina Ma’Aji Lawan (Borno North), who was in tears while narrating the damage to his senatorial district by Boko Haram insurgency.

Northern Elders urged President Jonathan to institute a judicial commission of inquiry into the massacre.

Its spokesman, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, who led a group of elders to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) secretariat in Kaduna, said probing the incident alone would not address the problem.

He blamed the President for allowing the military to take over peace-keeping operations.

According to him, soldiers are trained for war and not to deal with the civil society.

Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) spokesman Lai Mohammed warned the military against extra-judicial killings.

The ACN said: “Without jumping to any conclusion on what really transpired in Baga, we hasten to say that the military, in fighting an asymmetric war against insurgents, must ensure a strict observance of its rules of engagement to avoid the kind of deaths that were recorded in the border town.

“No matter what defence the military may put forward, the mass deaths and destruction in Baga during the JTF-insurgents’ clash portray the Nigerian military as having little or no respect for human rights and the sanctity of lives. This is not a flattering portrayal for a military that has made its mark in global peacekeeping.”

The party berated the Federal Government for waiting for almost 48 hours before responding to the situation.

The House of Representatives echoed the Northern Elders as it called for a commission of inquiry.

Also yesterday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) deployed officials to assist in the provision of medical reliefs and aid to the affected people.

Senator Bukola Saraki described the killings as “gruesome” and demanded for an inquest into the activities of the Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in the area.

The Military High Command began the auditing of the MJTF deployed in the border town.

According to the Red Cross, besides the 187 people feared killed, 77 others were injured. More than 300 homes were destroyed. The military said it confirmed 26 deaths.

The National Coordinator of the service organisation, Mr. Umar Mariaga, told AFP that Red Cross officials were still struggling to reach Baga, where the security situation remains uncertain.

“We are making efforts to get clearance from the security agents to get in and assist the victims of the violence,” he said.

A resident, who pleaded to remain anonymous, said much of the town was deserted after the clashes last Friday. He said the confrontation forced thousands to flee the battle grounds.

“Baga is still under military siege. The town is at a standstill, with little food and water, which has forced even those of us that stayed behind to start leaving,” the resident told AFP

The military operation in Baga, a town located about 180 kilometres North of Maiduguri, the state capital, left almost 200 dead.

Reports said the operation was jointly carried out by JTF personnel, in conjunction with troops from Niger and Chad.

Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) Brig.-Gen. Austin Edokpaye, who visited the troubled community on Sunday, alleged that insurgents used heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades in the Baga confrontation.

The MJTF was established by Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger to maintain security at the border areas.

According to him, the insurgents launched an unprovoked attack on soldiers.

Gen. Edokpaye, who briefed Governor Kashim Shettima during an assessment tour of Baga on Sunday, said: “We lost an officer during the attack on our men on patrol. We received intelligence that some suspected Boko Haram members usually pray and hide arms at a particular mosque in town. It was around that mosque that our men were attacked with several of them injured and an officer died.

“When we reinforced and returned to the scene, the terrorists came out with heavy firepower, including (rocket-propelled grenades), which usually has a conflagration effect.”

There were conflicting figures yesterday on the death toll, with some accounts saying as many as 300 people may have been killed.

A council official, Lawal Kole, told the governor during the visit that at least 185 bodies were found and buried but residents said the figure was a far-cry. They claimed yesterday that more bodies were recovered from the bush.

A resident, who spoke on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa radio said: “We are still searching and waiting for those who got missing… . Anybody who says the number of the dead is not up to 300 he is not a resident of Baga.”

However, the Defence Headquarters in Abuja said it could confirm the death of only 26 people, including the deceased soldier. The violence broke out when gunmen attacked residents of Baga, forcing security forces to move in after receiving a report, the military said.

Military authorities said the troops surrounded a mosque belonging to Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lid Da’awati Wal Jihad (Boko Harm) members, who had earlier allegedly killed an officer.

Hundreds of people have fled the town into neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

Christian clerics yesterday lamented the flow of weapons into the country.

“We must ask how these weapons reach Nigeria,” said Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos, the president of the Episcopal Conference, in an apparent reference to the arms used by Boko Haram.

He said: “While the most sophisticated ones come from abroad, in Nigeria there are clandestine laboratories manufacturing homemade weapons and Improvised Explosive Devices.

Also reacting to the death toll, Father Evaristus Bassey, the National Director of Caritas Nigeria, said: “Now we even have a higher level of weaponry, much more than what they were using before.”

The cleric said he was surprised by the clash in light of ongoing amnesty talks.

Politics › Senate Probes Baga Massacre by expertman(op): 12:57pm On Apr 24, 2013
THE Senate yesterday mandated its committees on Defence, Police and National Security and Intelligence to jointly investigate the alleged death of over 185 people in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Members of the joint committee have 14 days to turn in their report for the consideration of the Senate at plenary.

The development followed a motion on alleged massacre of over 185 people in Baga, Borno State last Friday.

President Goodluck Jonathan has also ordered a probe.

The motion was not debated. There was silence in the upper legislative chamber as Senator Maina Ma’Aji Lawan (Borno North), who sponsored the motion, recalled what he tagged “the Baga Massacre”.

Lawan used Order 43, which deals with personal explanation, to present his motion.

At a press conference he addressed later, the senator confirmed the story published by the The Nation on its front page that over 10 local government areas in Borno State are under the control of Boko Haram insurgents.

An observer in the Senate gallery described the mood in the chamber as “solemn”.

In subdued voice, Lawan said: “I stand before you today a very sad man. My zone, the Borno North Senatorial District, is today a no-go area for normal operations of government and, for that matter, any civil conduct.

“The issue I want to raise is the burning down and death of over 200 persons, destruction of over 2000 houses in my Senatorial District in particular, Baga town and the general activities of the insurgents that make the place almost inhabitable and completely out of control of any authority.

“It is in this respect that I want to make a brief explanation to the Senate.

“In particular, I want to draw your attention to several national dailies in the last four days.

“For instance, the front page caption of Daily Trust of Saturday that reads ‘Boko Haram rules Borno North’. The Nation front page story that reads ‘Boko Haram grounds 10 LGA’s in Borno.’

“And the very wide and extensive coverage of all the international electronic media: CNN, Al Jazeera, BBC, SKY News that you are already aware of.

“These news items are largely true.

“Coming closer home, my home town of Baga is today in total ruins with 180 to 200 human lives lost and numerous others unaccounted for.

“Over 2000 homes destroyed, 62 cars, 284 motorcycles and tonnes of foodstuff destroyed.

“At this stage, I do not want to immerse myself in the blame game of whether it is Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) or the Joint Task Force (JTF) or the insurgents that carried out the atrocities.

“But it appears to bear some of the hallmarks of Odi.

“However, whoever did it, that level of atrocity is outrageous, unacceptable and condemnable in any civilised society, even in societies that are at war.”

The lawmaker urged the Senate to investigate the matter “as this is a recurring decimal in all such past instances”.

While praying for the souls of the deceased, he urged government agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), state and local governments, as well as good-spirited individuals to come to the aide of the surviving victims, “the women, children, the aged that are today totally helpless”.

Lawan spoke of a humanitarian crisis in the area, recounting that the town was shut down for three days.

“Therefore, this aid should come on time,” he said.

The lawmaker thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for setting up the amnesty committee as, according to him, “the ultimate solution to this insurgency is a genuine dialogue that must necessarily address the immediate and remote underlying causes of the insurgency”.

“As I said, almost two years ago on the floor of this Senate, boots and bullets cannot solve the problem. Let’s put our thinking caps on and take advantage of this amnesty initiative and face the problem headlong.”

On the takeover of 10 council areas: he said: “The truth of the matter is that when JTF intensified their operations in Maiduguri, of course, they were concentrated in Maiduguri, understandably because it is the state capital.

“It was too hot for them (insurgents). They ran out and fizzled into the countryside. In the country side, people are helpless. There is no police post standing. In Borno North, there is no police outpost or divisional offices standing. That is the truth.

“What was written is not true of everywhere, but there are certain areas that government officers don’t go for fear of their own lives.

“Ask the immigration officers or custom officers when last they visited their Banki outpost?

“Ask the police inspector when last he was sitting in his outpost where there is supposed to be an inspector and three constables?

“They are not there and when they are not there and there is somebody with a gun, he rules. I thought we are informed enough about the gravity of the situation in Borno.

“Not just Borno but the Borno State in general. So, when the papers reported that government officials have abandoned their posts, whether federal or state, apart from areas where the military are operating, I am afraid, it is largely true.

“And that is exactly why we are talking of this brute application of force.

“About one third of neighbourhoods in Maiduguri are closed already where you see grasses as tall as myself.”

Senate President David Mark said there was no need to debate the motion. He described the Borno situation as “grave” and insisted that the deaths were “totally unacceptable”.

Mark said: “Maina Ma’Aji Lawan discussed the publications with me and it is in almost all the international media.

“Because of the security implications, the importance of it notwithstanding, I think we don’t really need to have any debate on it.

“But the number of people who are said to have been killed, irrespective of who did it is totally unacceptable. That number is just too much.

“I know that Gen. Mohammed Magoro and Saleh would say that fighting in a built-up area is a very difficult operation, but that notwithstanding, there must be standard of engagement and those rules of engagement does not include mass killing or extra judicial killing in any form.

“But I don’t want any debate on it because there is already a committee that has been set up to probe it by the executive.

“We in the legislature will set up a committee to investigate the facts – whether the reports we get are correct or not – and I urge that those who will appear before this committee must have the courage to come up because the problem is not setting up the committee, it is whether people will come and give evidence before it.

“But I urge Nigerians who know the facts to appear before this committee. I will say that the committee on Defence, Police and National Security and Intelligence, the three committees to form a joint committee to investigate and report to us within 14 days.”

Politics › Jonathan, Amaechi Clash Took Another U Turn by expertman(op): 10:07am On Apr 17, 2013
The gulf between President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State widened further over the weekend as the Presidency and the Rivers State Government locked horns yet again.

This time, the Presidency was reacting to a recent claim by Amaechi that Jonathan was after him.

The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, who spoke to one of our correspondents during a telephone interview implied that Amaechi had an agenda.

The relationship between the President and the governor has deteriorated in recent times with several reports saying the feud is all about 2015 politics.

There are speculations that a bloc within the Peoples Democratic Party, which is opposed to Jonathan, wants Amaechi to be the vice-presidential aspirant of a duo that will challenge Jonathan in the party’s future presidential primaries.

Amaechi had also said Jonathan was after him because he had opposed the fraud in the fuel subsidy regime, the Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Excess Crude Account.

But Gulak, who said Amaechi had the right to contest the highest position in the country, warned the governor to pursue his agenda without accusing Jonathan wrongly.

He said, “If he has an agenda, he is entitled to pursue his agenda. He is a Nigerian. He is qualified to hold the highest office in the land.

“He is a politician and he is entitled to pursue his agenda but he should stop making frivolous allegations about the President.”

The presidential adviser added that the President had no reason to move against the governor, or any PDP governor, as they all belonged to the same party.

He said, “The President is a man who follows the provisions of the constitution. The President is a man who consults robustly before taking decisions.

“The governors are members of the National Economic Council and that council, though advisory to the President, takes a lot of decisions about the Sovereign Wealth Fund, Excess Crude Account and everything. If they don’t agree, such decisions are not implemented.

“It is wrong for Amaechi to say the President is after him because of that. People should not play to the gallery. If people have agenda, let them pursue their agenda but let them not point fingers at Mr. President.

“Mr. President is not pursuing anybody. Mr. President is not pursuing Amaechi or any other governor; after all, they are all members of the same Peoples Democratic Party family.

“But that does not mean that things should not be properly done and agencies must be allowed to do their work.”

Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said the President had more important issues to attend to rather than going after governors.

He said, “I will be surprised if the governor of Rivers State made such a statement. That statement does not apply to President Jonathan, he does not pursue anybody. He is not a vindictive person.

“President Jonathan does not abuse his office. I totally disagree with such a statement, it cannot be true. I know for a fact that it is not true.

“It cannot be correct. The President has nothing to gain or lose whether Amaechi remains the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum or he is removed.

“The President is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is not a governor and the activities of governors are not his business directly or indirectly.

“He has more serious issues to contend with, delivering on the promises of his transformation agenda which is what he is doing currently.”

Reacting to Gulak’s statement on Friday, the governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David Iyofor, said Gulak had turned himself to the “Wada Nas of President Jonathan’s administration.”

The CPS said rather than build bridges for his boss, the special adviser to the President was burning bridges and picking up fights where none existed.

He said, “With each passing day, it is becoming too clear that Gulak is certainly an adviser that Mr. President does not need. Instead of building bridges for his principal, Mr. President, Gulak has embarked on a self-imposed, suicide-like mission of burning bridges for his principal and picking fights where none exists.

“Adviser Gulak has turned himself into the Wada Nas of this administration with his unguarded and uncouth statements.

“We will not condescend to his (Gulak) level or join issues with him. We are too busy delivering democracy dividends to Rivers people. We have no time for clowns and Wada Nas-like characters like Gulak.”

Also, a close associate of Amaechi, who preferred anonymity, said some of President Jonathan’s aides had failed to add value to the Office of the Presidency.

“How can he (Gulak) say Amaechi has a hidden agenda or a presidential ambition? For somebody in the Presidency to say that Amaechi has a hidden agenda shows that they are the people carving out such an agenda.

“The truth is that the President’s aides are not adding value to the Office of Mr. President. All they (President’s aides) are doing is just to advance their interest.

“We contributed an aircraft to the Goodluck/Sambo presidency. His aides, who are now peddling falsehood, never contributed anything to President Jonathan’s success at the last election,” he added.

Amaechi, had said last week, at a seminar organised in Ikogosi Ekiti, Ekiti State, by the Future Project, that the Presidency was not happy with him for insisting that transparency and accountability were needed in the payment of petrol subsidy.

The governor said it was because of this that the governors forum went to court to challenge the legality of the Federal Government’s action of using money meant for the three tiers of government to pay for petrol subsidy.

“It is one reason they don’t want me as the governors’ (forum) chairman,” Amaechi said at the seminar.

Similarly on Thursday, Amaechi had accused the Federal Government of not allowing a helicopter Rivers State bought into the country because the FG feared that the helicopter would be used for the 2015 elections.--- http://cybernewsupdate.com/

Man Stealing High tension Power Lines Dies Electrocuted on a Utility Pole

Everyday for the thieve and One day for the Owner, Yoruba Proverb Says"

Considering the level of grief and despair thieves cause, they are nowhere near severely enough punished.
In the Middle East they are, where they cut hands of thieves off. But here in the Africa and in most other parts of the world they’re not.

Imagine how much grief a thief stealing high tension power lines causes. There could be hundreds of people relying on the power lines he attempted to steal and because of him the power was cut off, now they were unable to cook for their kids or do work that earns them a living. All because someone who couldn’t be bothered to earn money with honest work decided to climb on a utility pole and steal the wiring for himself.

Luckily, in this case instant Karma was in the neighborhood and zapped him. He was found guilty,
sentenced and executed by electric chair all in one instance.

Politics › Former Deputy Governor Of Anambra State Killed By Kidnappers by expertman(op): 4:34pm On Apr 12, 2013
The former Deputy Governor of Anambra State Dr. Chudi Nwike, who was kidnapped on March 19, has been killed by his kidnappers who had demanded N30 million ransom which they collected a negotiated amount.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) said in a statement that the body was identified at the Agbor Police Station in Delta State by the Anambra State Chairman of the party), Chief Amaechi Obidike, State Secretary Barr Emeka Ibe, and the victim’s brother, Dr.Bufo Nwike.

The statement noted that the family had negotiated and paid a ransom prior to the discovery of the body, Bufo Nwike handling the negotiations and arranging to pay to the kidnappers N5million at an undisclosed location in Delta State.

That ransom was in paid on April 5, but the kidnappers, after collecting the money from the courier, cut off all further communications. The body was discovered thereafter.

“We are tremendously ashamed of the circumstances of his death and wish we could now erase from history that a former Deputy Governor of a State in Nigeria died in this manner,” the statement said.

The party called on the security agencies, in view of the fact that they did not succeed in tracking down the abductors of the former Deputy Governor while he lived, to “rise and smash all obstacles on the way to unearthing the abductors and killers of ACN’s rare gem, an embodiment of peace and knowledge.”

Crime › Driver Molests 15-year-old Housemaid, Blames The Devil With Pics by expertman(op): 4:49pm On Apr 10, 2013
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a driver, Olusegun Ajayi, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old housemaid in Arepo, Ogun State.

The NSCDC authorities said the suspect had canal knowledge of the girl which caused her to bleed for two days.

Ajayi, however, told PUNCH Metro that his act was not rape since the victim consented. The suspect, who claimed to be a devout Christian, said he did not know the victim prior to the incident.

He said, “On Saturday night, I was returning from a party and was about to enter my house when I saw the girl sitting outside. I asked her what she was doing outside late at night but she said she was working in a house not far away from my workplace and was sent to buy sweets by her employer.

“She said she was locked outside and that she had been knocking for hours but no one came to open the door for her. I then told her to follow me to an uncompleted building on the street. On getting to the building, we saw a mattress there which had been left behind by labourers. I asked her if she could sleep alone there but she said no.

“So, I went back to my house to get a wrapper and a pillow. Although my wife was not at home, my mother-in-law was around. So, I left her with my children and told her I would not be coming back that night.”

Ajayi, who claimed to be a father of three, said on returning to where the victim was, he laid beside her and began to caress her.

He said the victim did not resist his attempt but requested for money before she would allow him to sleep with her.

“I don’t know what came over me but I found myself touching her and she did not resist. Rather, she said I should pay her N10, 000 for sex and I promised to give it to her the following day. However, a few minutes into the sex, she started bleeding profusely which scared me,” he said.

The indigene of Lagos State said he went back home to get drugs as well as toiletries which he would use to stop the bleeding.

He said when it was daybreak, he set out for work but was summoned back home after which the employees of the victim accused him of rape.

“I was on my way to Iporni in Lagos when my wife called me that people were asking of me at home. When I returned home, residents just started beating me before handing me over to the civil defence,” he said.

In a desperate plea to the civil defence authorities, the suspect said he did not know that the victim was a minor. He added that his predicament was the handiwork of the devil.

“I have three children, including a daughter. I would never have touched that girl if I knew she was 15. I am a devout Christian and I am a responsible man. The devil preyed on my weakness and I promise never to do such again,” he said.

A source at the NSCDC, who craved anonymity, said the victim was taken to hospital and that the bleeding had stopped.

She however added that investigations were ongoing and that medical report would determine what happened.

“We believe that the victim was not only raped but the suspect must have done something to her because she lost so much blood. Once the medical report is out, we will know the next line of action,” she said.
