Floating corpses/Anambra Killing Fields: FULL DETAILS OF HOW THE VICTIMS WERE SUFFOCATED to death emerge Details have emerged on how the men whose bodies were found floating on a river in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, were SUFFOCATED to death. The shocking details of the heinous crime are contained in a report released this morning in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra, by the leadership of the International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety). Entitled “Anambra Killing Fields: How Victims Were Suffocated To Death By Nigeria Police SARS,” it is the third of a society review by Intersociety, which had also indicted the Anambra State Police Command in the first two parts of the report released on February 19, 2013 and March 4, 2013 respectively. Signed by Emeka Umeagbalasi, Chairman, Board of Trustees, and Comrade Justus Ijeoma, Head, Publicity Desk, the latest report says as follows: The International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law can confirm to the world that most, if not all of those found floating on Ezu River of Death on 19th day of January, 2013, died from suffocation. It is recalled that we had in the part two of our explosive report on Ezu River of Death dated 4th day of Match, 2013, stated clearly that the methods used by Anambra SARS in killing those found in Ezu River were methods not restricted to gun-shots. That is to say that they might have been killed through other means, which include clubbing, lethal strings, strangulation, macheting, poisoning, rubber/tube tying, etc (including suffocation). Our further findings after part one and two of our report clearly indicate that most, if not all of them were killed through manually traceless means-called mass suffocation. This clearly explains why the Anambra State Police Command, having gotten briefing from its SARS leadership on how it killed the victims being referenced, hastily told the world that no gunshot wounds or bullets were found on any of the corpses. Our Credible Findings: A member of one of the armed community vigilante groups belonging to one of the communities that share common boundaries with the Awkuzu SARS headquarters in Awkuzu Community, Oyi LGA in Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria, was arrested by the Awkuzu SARS sometime in early January 2013, and detained for two weeks for armed robbery. The freed vigilante operative told an under-cover investigator on condition of anonymity and face to face chat, that he was contracted by a trader to recover some debts owed him by another trader. He led other armed vigilante operatives to the debt recovery operation during which the debtor was beaten up and injured. The injured debtor reported him to Awkuzu SARS through the help of the debtor’s friend who is a SARS operative. The freed vigilante operative told the under-cover investigator that he regained his freedom through the intervention of his community’s chief security officer and the president general. He told the investigator that at Awkuzu SARS, detention cells are serially numbered from 1, 2, 3, and 4 and so on. Those in cell 4 and above are condemned detainees waiting for extra judicial executions and that extra judicial execution of detainees is almost on daily basis. He revealed that there are several torturous ways Awkuzu SARS operatives kill their detainees extra judicially and those who cannot afford huge illegal bail sums ranging from N50, 000 to N200, 000 or more as case may be, are among those being executed extra judicially. On that fateful day, according to the freed vigilante, detainees from Awkuzu SARS dead or condemned cells, numbering dozens were brought out in a broad daylight, chained and handcuffed; made to lie face down on an open field within the SARS premises and under scotching sun and heat. All the assembled detainees were covered with thick tarpaulin under the watchful eyes of their killers and made to stay under it for hours during which they suffocated and died. Their evacuation and dumping into the Ezu River of Death, according to a prominent resident of Amansea, who monitored the dumping, was done three times within the period-Monday, Wednesday and Friday. That is to say that they were evacuated from SARS killing field and dumped into the Ezu River of Death on 14th, 16th and 18th day of January, 2013. This expressly strengthens the print and electronic media accounts that some of the corpses were in varying state of decomposition when they were discovered. The prominent resident also clarified that the blood stains found on the surface of the Amansea Old Enugu Road Bridge were those of one of the bodies discovered to be alive by Police SARS and possibly detainees who were ordered to evacuate the murdered bodies. To erase any traces, they were shot severally and confirmed dead before they were thrown into the dead river from the top of the Bridge in the late night/early hours of January 18/19, 2013.Some residents of the area confirmed the blood stains on top of the left side of the old bridge during one of our field team’s visits to the area on Sunday, March 10, 2013. Their dumping possibly took place between 12:00am and 3:00am, considered to be the hours of the dead. Before the shocking discovery of dozens of murdered corpses in Ezu River of Death, some residents of the areas said that dumping of murdered corpses by the Anambra State Command has been a routine. Corpses dumped from the Old Bridge into Ezu River are converged by the River at Onaluokwe circle of the river in Amaowelle Village, Amansea, where they are either eaten by big fishes or decomposed and decayed. Onaluokwe literally means a circle where the River receives objects and accommodates or accepts same. Reasons for dumping the extra judicially murdered corpses into the river in recent times, according to our findings, are due to several alarms raised by host communities on whose lands such murdered bodies were shallowly buried and liquidated with acid substances. Part of the reasons is also because of the procurement of some of such parcels of land by private citizens. For instance, the Onitsha Old Cemetery management has forbidden the Anambra Police SARS from dumping their extra judicially murdered bodies in the cemetery. The Nawfia by Ezugu-Agidi stream has been sealed off by the affected communities owing to the menace of littering the area with police-murdered corpses. Extra judicially murdered corpses are dumped inside the stream’s gully and liquidated with raw acid substances. The Agu-Awka dumping site, located near the Awka MOPOL 29 barracks, controlled by Ntoko Community, near Awka, has also been sealed owing to concerns expressed by the host community over indiscriminate dumping of extra judicially murdered bodies by Anambra Police SARS. A female student of the Igbariam Campus of the Anambra State University also confirmed that extra judicial killing of detainees by the Awkuzu Police SARS is a routine. She revealed that Otuocha River (Omambala River) is another river where those extra judicially murdered by SARS are routinely dumped. Their dumping hours, according to her, are from 9:00pm and above, and their route is usually the Awkuzu Junction-Otuocha Road. This reinforces the recent discovery of about three or four murdered corpses in the River reportedly by media and the NSCDC. Some residents of Amansea and Awkuzu communities, who spoke to Intersociety, confirmed the atrocious acts under reference. A resident of Amansea community said that the murdered dead bodies are introduced by SARS to officers and men of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, who mount permanent road block less than 100 meters away from the Old Enugu Road Bridge as wasted products. According to some residents of Akwuzu, spoken to by Intersociety, there are more than seven methods of torture and killing used in killing the SARS detainees extra judicially. Some of them are killing by suffocation through the use of thick tarpaulin and compacted and unventilated cells; killing by gun-shots; killing by machetes; killing by strangulation; killing by clubbing with planks or metal objects; killing by lethal strings; killing by infliction of grievous bodily torture; killing by circle-tying the detainee’s toes to waist and finger to shoulder regions, resulting in instant death; and killing by chaining the detainee’s legs and hands together and hanging him or her upside down on a ceiling hook to die. As a torture strategy, detainees are routinely brought out from cells, shot on their legs and fingers and sent back to their cells without treatments, which lead to their untimely death as a result of decaying wounds. They are killed and disposed off if they become nuisance to SARS detention cells and environment. It is also a routine in Awkuzu SARS to order some detainees to evacuate the extra judicially murdered bodies, after which they are shot and killed to erase traces. Female detainees are treated inhumanly in their cells. A female student told Intersociety that she was detained for two weeks without being allowed to have a shower not even a single day. Awkuzu SARS cells are a clear replica of the German Concentration Camp. Our Team’s Visit To The Crime Scenes: Our visits covered the old and new road sides of the Ezu River of Death, the sites of the boreholes of controversy sunk by Governor Peter Obi and Senator Chris Ngige. The Ngige borehole is located after the police road block, while the Obi borehole, which has started running, is located along Nitel Road, all in Amansea. We also visited the River’s dumping points as well as former SARS dumping sites at Onitsha Old Cemetery, Agu-Awka and Nawfia Stream by Enugu-Agidi Junction on Onitsha-Enugu Dual Carriage Way. We spoke to some residents of Amansea and Awkuzu Communities including male and female students of UNIZIK and ANSU. At Amansea, we were told that as the villagers were discovering dozens of murdered corpses at the old and new sides of the two Enugu Roads, there were dozens of more murdered bodies floating on the Onaluokwe circle of the River. Some of the villagers told Intersociety that Onaluokwe circle is where the Ezu River of Death enlarges, which can only be accessed via canoe boats peddled by the Ijaws. They also alleged that some boat peddlers were hired and paid by police during the horrible saga to remove and shallowly bury those corpses floating on the River’s Onaluokwe circle to remove them from outsiders’ viewing. Also, according to them, dumping extra judicially murdered corpses into the River mostly comes from the Anambra State Police Command and sometimes from Ugwuoba Community in Enugu State. Corpses emanating from Ugwuoba are usually insignificant in number (not more than three) at a time and they are usually alleged thieves caught by its local armed vigilante. To them, number of corpses found on January 19, 2013, was alarmingly higher than what they usually saw and that the reason why those corpses floated and refused to be pushed away by the River was because of drastic reduction in water currents owing to dry season. The number of corpses found on that fateful day, according to them, is 50 and far above when added to those floating on the River’s Onaluokwe circle same day. This confirms a disclosure by another university female student that a top operative of SARS had in December2012 at a liquor joint, complained that their cells as at then, contained over 100 detainees and that before the end of January 2013, half of them will be cleared(killed extra judicially). Dating female students of ANSU is a routine among SARS operatives. Finally, we wish to state again that the leadership of Nigeria’s Intersociety has no scores to settle with the Nigeria Police Force as a public organization, but we have a series of scores to settle with ethnic cleansers, beasts and cannibals it employs and pays through Nigeria’s collective wealth to murder and torture with reckless abandon Nigeria’s innocent citizens particularly the young Igbo sons who are at their prime age of productivity. We suspect seriously that a policy of ethnic cleansing has perfectly been designed to exterminate the Igbo productive population in Nigeria. The level of hatred and hate policing activities being visited against the Igbo race in Nigeria is taking an alarming dimension day in day out. The race is incontestably an endangered species in Nigeria today. MASSOB organization, for instance, is not different from the O’ Odua People’s Congress in Southwest Nigeria, but while the group enjoys maximum freedoms and police protection, innocent MASSOB members and Igbo law-abiding traders are hunted on daily basis and slaughtered with impunity. It has been factually established that out of every five police officers from the northern Nigeria, four would kill any Igbo man extra judicially if they have an opportunity; out of every five police officers from the Southwest Nigeria, four would do same; whereas out of every five police officers from Southeast Nigeria, one would kill a northerner or a south westerner outside the law, if he or she has an opportunity. The ratio ethnic hatred in Nigeria between Hausa/ Yoruba and Igbo is 90/20. That is to say that 90% of the former hate the Igbos, while only 20% of the latter hate the former. •Photo: Horrified residents of Amansea watching the floating corpses from on top of the bridge on the day the day the corpses suddenly floated on Ezu River last January 18. fkaz: Is this woman related to seun osewa in anyway?na waoh must everything be related to seun no be only seun Osewa Na Seun Malaye |
On the 26th of March 2011, during the PDP presidential election campaign, former president Olusegun Obasanjo appealed to Nigerians to vote for Goodluck Jonathan. He confirmed that the PDP still had a zoning policy and also acknowledged that according to that policy a Northerner should have been the PDP candidate since Yar ádua who had recently died had been unable to complete his term. However he pleaded that Nigerians should understand the “accident of history” that threw up Jonathan Goodluck as a candidate and commended him for agreeing to a single term “to assuage the bitterness of the pro zoning elements”. He further stated that the president should be “encouraged to stick to the vow” although he did not elaborate on who precisely should encourage him and when this encouragement might prove necessary. Jonathan Goodluck, then a presidential candidate seeking votes from the public was present, smiling and nodding as Obasanjo delivered his speech. It is not clear what was in his mind at the time but his silence seemed to acquiesce with the former president’s assertion that he had promised a single term. Understandably he could neither contradict nor correct him even if he had not been party to that promise. It was clearly on that premise that the Northern governors and other leaders had agreed to let him run instead of a Northern candidate according to the PDP zoning agreement. And he really wanted to be president at all costs. Shortly after President Goodluck ran for and won the election, his aides announced a proposed constitutional amendment for a single term of 7 or 8 years which they attempted to present as a fait accompli. Nigerians were up in arms against it, clearly amazed that this issue should take precedence over every other burning issue that faced the nation at that time. They immediately recognised it for what it was, a form of term elongation and the reaction against it was so strong the presidency had to immediately tender a retraction. Nothing has been heard of it since. Was this the strategy to get around the promise of a single tenure? Other than Obasanjo’s campaign promise which is not necessarily binding on the president was there any agreement in writing or even orally that Jonathan would serve only one term? Following the apparent moves by the president’s aides and friends to launch a campaign for Jonathan’s second term, Babangida Aliyu, governor of Niger state dropped the bombshell a few days ago that Jonathan could not run for president in 2015 since he had entered into an agreement with the governors and leaders of the PDP to serve only one term. In politics nothing really happens by chance. Babangida Aliyu did not just decide to remind Goodluck Jonathan about his alleged agreement to a single term just for the heck of it. This was a clear invitation to the Goodluck team to halt their campaign. It was a hint at the stiff opposition they can expect to face if they insist on pursuing the second term bid and it was also an indication that Babangida Aliyu was interested in the seat himself. Aliyu insists that not only did Jonathan agree to it, he also signed a document to that effect. Some other governors also claim that such a document exists and a couple have threatened to release the document at the appropriate time. But if such a document existed, would it not have been in the public domain by now? According to Ahmed Gulak, the presidential adviser on political affairs, there was never an agreement to serve a single term. He described the claim made by Babangida Aliyu, governor of Niger state that the president had agreed to a single term as “frivolous and a figment of the governor’s imagination” and challenged anyone in possession of it to produce a copy of the document. So far no one has and it appears unlikely that there is one. Senator Kanti Bello and Senator Teslim Folarin who as PDP principal officers in the Senate attended the meeting, both said there was no written agreement. Although Folarin heard no mention whatsoever of a single term issue, Bello said Jonathan was indeed asked whether he would serve only a single term but he remained silent and did not respond. According to Bello, subsequently Governor Shema of Katsina mischeviously wrote a communiqué of the meeting and inserted an agreement to a single term. It appears that there was no deal per se but there certainly was some sort of oral promise or understanding. Not only did Goodluck remain silent when Obasanjo promised on his behalf, he actually stated it in Ethiopia when he addressed Nigerians in diaspora after the African Summit that year. He repeated the statement again to Nigerians in Kampala, Uganda whilst expressing his regret that they would not be able to vote in the presidential elections in 2011. But so what if there was a promise or even a written and signed agreement, would it be legally binding? Most unlikely! A statement made during a casual gathering of Nigerians in diaspora can at best, if at all only be considered a vague campaign promise and acquiescence through silence during a PDP meeting could possibly pass as a “gentleman’s agreement” but neither could by any stretch of the imagination be considered legally binding. Even the purported signed agreement, if it turns out to be real cannot be enforced. No agreement can tamper with his constitutional rights and no one has the right to force him into such an agreement. If the point of this debate is to ensure that the presidency is returned to the North, then the appropriate argument would be the PDP zoning policy which they have all admitted is still in existence. Several of the Northern PDP governors are on their second term and appear to have presidential aspirations. These include Sule Lamido (Obasanjo’s choice), Isa Yuguda who has not achieved much as a governor in his own state and Babangida Aliyu. Others from the national assembly who also seem eager to run include David Mark, Tambuwal and Bukola Saraki. Even some of the Southern governors who are on their second term are gunning for vice president roles in the event that a Northern colleague is selected to run for president. Rotimi Amaechi and Godswill Akpabio both quite suitable and rather popular come under this category. But their participation would also necessitate a change in the current zoning formula. The failure of at least one of them to secure the candidacy may cause many of these governors to decamp to the newly formed APC. The argument for a Northern president just for the sake of it and not because the individual candidates are suitable may not go down well with the general public (not that we have much say in the matter since it is yet another PDP internal crisis) which is probably why they are holding onto the single term issue. During the last election, acrimony caused by the PDP zoning policy debate was largely responsible for the voting pattern along ethnic and religious lines. It enhanced Jonathan’s position though and will undoubtedly serve as a counter debate if the single term issue is pushed too far. Another alternative and probably the best argument would be that which was first pointed out by former president, Ibrahim Babangida who stated that a second term would result in Jonathan being sworn in thrice and will exceed his constitutional limit of an 8 year term. Amidst arguments by legal luminaries for and against, a member of the PDP, Cyracus Njoku instituted a case in the courts to interpret the constitution and determine whether or not Jonathan could be sworn in a third time. Cyracus has asked the court to determine whether section 137(1)(b) of the constitution which provides “that a person shall not be qualified for election to the office of president if he has been elected to such office at any two previous elections” applies to the president. On the face of it that section neither excludes Jonathan’s peculiar situation nor particularly allows it. One could argue that he was not elected into that specific office until 2011. A decision has not been given on that case yet but it is expected that more suits on the same issue will be filed in due course as the battle for the most coveted seat becomes fiercer. This is just the beginning! |

SHAMELESS: Enugu Governor's Chief Detail, Wife UnCloth Women, Slapped Ushers At Winners Chapel Church Service Men of the Nigerian Police officers exhibited their usual character by desecrating, disrupting and distracting worshippers during the church service of Sunday 17 of February, at the State Headquarters of Winners Chapel Enugu, arresting a deacon and an official with the Crowd Control Unit (CCU) in the process. The drama started after the first service when a member of the CCU was defied by a worshipper when instructed to stop for other vehicles from the other lane to pass. The errant worshipper , (the Chief Detail to the Governor of Enugu State) refused to follow the order of the Traffic Controllers and in the process his vehicle hit and run over the leg of another worshipper. In the ensuing melee and confusion the Chief Detail held the tie and pushed around the Usher who retaliated by roughly shoving the man. The wife of the chief detail came to the rescue of the husband by giving the Usher two hot slaps and another lady CCU member slapped back the wife of the government official and a brief fight ensued at the car park leading to tearing of dresses of both women. The aggrieved Government Official called for reinforcement from a group of mobile policemen who came to the church to arrest the leaders of the CCU but met with resistance from church members. They called for a second and third heavily armed reinforcement that came with two Hilux vans from Government House , Enugu and after much argument, whisked off a Deacon named Kanayo and a CCU usher named Louis. All efforts by the resident pastor and other pastors, elders and deacons to plead with the top government official failed. The duo were arrested and taken to Ogui Police Station around 1pm and were there till 9pm. This melee caused confusion , distracted the second service as worshipers abandoned the church service to witness hollywood movie. Traffic was held up for over two hours while angry worshippers expressed disappointment at the Police partiality in the matter. The entreaties of people including the State Director of State Security Services and an Assistant Commissioner of Police to release the church officials failed as the government top shot insisted on teaching the church rats the lessons of their lives. The Resident Overseer, Pastor David Bamigboye sent his assistants including Pastor Kunle Olarewaju, Pastor Kingsley Ikobi, Pastor Obiora Madu. The Chairman of Deacon’s Assembly , Deacon Chibuzo Ogoma and Elder Igbinidion were among officials of Living Faith Church stranded at Ogui Police Station till night in efforts to release their Deacon and CCU official. Worshippers therefore described the action by the Nigerian Police Force attached to Government House Enugu as irresponsible. "It is expected that the police should have used wisdom to ask the church to settle the matter as internal affairs. Without the Crowd "Control Unit in the church, just as in other denominations, it would be difficult for worshippers to enter and exit the church premises especially in churches that have large crowd and more than one service on a Sunday, particularly with vehicular movements." An elder in the Church said, "It is obvious that this Chief Detail cannot understand how this ‘rag- tag’ usher had the effrontery to confront and obstruct his exalted personality. This man whose infamous name is not worth mentioning, should know that his boss, Governor Sullivan Chime, just escaped from the hands of death and Governor Liyel Imoke in Calabar is still battling to escape from his travails. Therefore, showing off might in the church is not good for posterity purposes. "Old Anambra State knows the story of Bishop Godfrey Okoye in 1975 versus Senator Offia Nwali and Barrister JSP Nwokolo owner of Pascan Jake Hotels and how posterity smiled on them after conniving to collect church land in show of might with the Catholic Church. Governor Ohakim beat up a priest and in the process lost his governorship seat in Imo State. "The political enemies of Rev Fr Mbaka have become dustbins in Enugu State. Therefore, whosoever this man thinks he is, the church is not the place to display executive recklessness, whether Catholic, Anglican, Winners, Redeemed or otherwise. He should tender unreserved apology to the management of Living Faith Church for being used by the enemy to distract the Winners family in this season of double portion, next levels and prayer reach." He narrated that, "this man who claimed that he is a member of the church, was banging on the table of the resident pastor in utter show of disrespect for the ecclesiastical institution. He Therefore warned that, as Living Faith Church is gathering crowd unto it, they should be mindful of mixed multitudes whose arrogance, anger and faulty orientation could mar the operations of the spirit. Therefore, lessons on pride and anger management should form part of the foundation class." |

An Asaba High Court on Wednesday sentenced two kidnappers to 113 years imprisonment with hard labour, having been found guilty of kidnapping and armed robbery. The convicts are David Erutere and Sunday Omamuzo Ukailkwo. They were sentenced after they were found guilty of the five-count charge of conspiracy to commit felony with armed robbery contrary to section 6 (b) and punishable under section 1 (2) a of the robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R II Volume 14 Laws of the Federation, 2004. They were also found guilty of the charges of armed robbery and demanding property with menaces. The prosecutor told the court that David and Sunday conspired, kidnapped and robbed Irikefe Edafe and Egwu Johnbull and stripped them of their valuables including a Pathfinder Jeep, GSM Phones, Laptop, wedding rings and cash and thereafter demanded a ransom of N50 million from their kinsmen. Irikefe Edafe and Egwu Johnbull were abducted in June 2011 at Delta Palace Road, Warri and Ubiaruku respectively. The court in its judgement sentenced the first accused person (David, aged 31), a native of Ekrakra Village in Ethiope East Local Government of Delta state to 45 years in jail for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery, while he got another seven years imprisonment, alongside with Sunday, for conspiracy to commit kidnapping, three years imprisonment each for demanding property with menace and another 10 years each for the offence of kidnapping. The second accused person (Sunday) who claimed to be a farmer and a native of Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government area, bagged 25 years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery. David was arrested by men of the State Security Service (SSS) when he fell into the trap set for him at the point of collecting the N50 million ransom and he later took the security agents to the house of Sunday where he too was arrested and later charged to court. Meanwhile, another High Court in the state at Orerokpe, headquarters of Okpe Local Government yesterday sentenced a 27 years old University worker, one David Wonder Erhirhie to death for committing murder. David Wonder was sentenced for killing Princess Chinoso Ijezie, an admission seeker in 2009 at Abraka. The court said the offence was punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code Law Cap C. 21 Laws of Delta State 2006. Delivering judgement, the court said prosecution was able to proved beyond all reasonable doubt the offence of murder and sentenced him in accordance to the law. “The punishment for a crime of this magnitude is death penalty. This accuse person does not deserve less. I hereby sentence you to death by hanging at the neck until you be dead. May God have mercy upon your soul.” The Prosecutor who buttressed his case, which lasted for over two years, with six witnesses, and faulted the accused person who testified for himself. Prior to his conviction, he was a clerical staff of the Provost Office, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka. He was involved in admission racketeering and swindled his victim of N155,000 in a bid to secure admission for her into a private University somewhere in Edo State but in desperation to cover up the crime lured the princess to his house, killed and secretly buried her in a shallow grave close to his house before nemesis caught up with him. |

Former Delta State Governor, James Onanefe Ibori, has debunked recent media report which claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has discovered his “secret mansion” at No. 5 Alpha Beach Road, Lekki, Lagos. “That this claim was credited to a press statement signed and distributed by EFCC’s spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujiaren, actually made it more bizarre,” Ibori said on Sunday in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Tony Eluemunor. Ibori said the house in question “could not have been secret at all as it was listed down in Asset Declaration Forms he filled in 1999, 2003 and 2007. So that house has never been a secret.” He added: “Despite EFCC’s insinuations to the contrary, the Alpha Beach Road house was built as far back as 1994, and so could not have, by any leap of the imagination, been built with proceeds, corrupt or not corrupt, from my office as State Governor because I began to live in that house five good years before I was voted into office.” The statement said the only rational explanation for the emergence of the present story “where well-known facts were twisted to deceive the public is that as the confiscation process against Ibori progresses, some elements within the EFCC may desperately be trying to manufacture things to uphold their often exaggerated stories about Ibori’s wealth. “Also, if the stories published about the house were actually based on EFCC’s statement, it means that the EFCC has accepted that Ibori was actually enormously rich at least half a decade before he became Governor of Delta State – after all, EFCC and the media called the house a ‘mansion’, describing it in superlative terms. “So, perhaps trying to hide this fact that Ibori was a man of means before he became Governor, the EFCC and their agents are using all infernal tricks to cast doubts about when Ibori actually built that house.” Ibori reiterated that the house was not only built in 1994 before he became Governor, it has featured in his asset declarations. “Also, Chief Ibori has been cooperating fully with the London Metropolitan Police since the preliminary stages of the confiscation process began, in line with the United Kingdom Criminal Justice Act (CJA) of 1988; so he does not see why the house has become an issue – especially as Nigeria has surrendered her jurisdictional sovereignty to Britain.” The statement urged Nigerians to note that “this is one more evidence that what Ibori has faced, and is still facing even after he has been sentenced, is just political persecution.” |

She will most certainly have to buy more than one seat on an airplane. The model’s waist is only 40 inches around, and when compared to her hips, it is much smaller. Mikel Ruffinelli weighs 420 pounds and stands 5′ 4″ tall, and she loves herself. She said, “I love my shape and I see no reason to diet because I don’t have health problems.” The woman with the world’s largest hips is a mother to four children, and she said that her hip circumference increased each time she had a baby. Apparently big hips run in her family. Even so, hers are most certainly extra big. Many people even believe she had implants, and that her hips are not real. What do you think about the world’s largest hips? Do you know somebody who could rival Mikel Ruffinelli and her claim to fame? It is fantastic that she does not have any health problems related to her size. She is proof that people come in all shapes and sizes, and it is wonderful that she has such love for her shape. I Won’t Be Tolerant With Power Like Jonathan – Anyim Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, erstwhile president of the senate, is presently the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF with oversight over preparations for the country’s centenary celebrations. Ahead of next month’s flag-off of the 22 month long celebrations, Senator Anyim alongside the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Chief Edem Duke unfolded plans to commemorate the proclamation during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos. The plans, he said as at last week, were still tentative with inputs still being received from critical stakeholders. One of the poignant points raised in the course of the interaction was on the role of some past leaders who have today coalesced into the political opposition. Senator Anyim, whose wits and wisdom helped him in navigating through the once slippery corridors of power in the Senate responded to those issues and many more in the course of the session. Excerpts: On the role of the political opposition during the celebrations The time I was leaving the senate I was getting to 42 and I didn’t think about what I would be tomorrow. I walked away. Why wouldn’t people also think that the country should be above them? I had become chairman of the National Assembly and I said I had no business here again and I walked away and I had no plan about what I was going to do except that my father was a farmer and I had a farmland. It is as simple and straight as that. We must join hands to promote the country above every selfish interest. I think the duty is for us to elevate the corporate wellbeing of Nigeria because it is all our collective well being over and above every narrow and parochial feeling. Honestly and I think so. Let me again empahsise about this issue of perception. If I were Jonathan, if I were him, I ordinarily try to simplify my life, (but) I have never seen a man humble with power as Jonathan. I wouldn’t be as humble as that with power, I can tell you that I was not. I have never seen anybody that is as tolerant with power as he. I have never seen any leader in Nigeria and I have been around, that has managed power the way Jonathan has and that is why everybody thinks we can rubbish him, ‘that one, what can he do? He wont do anything. We can step on him!’ We haven’t had it that way before. And I have told people, we have wonderful opportunity under Jonathan to deepen democracy because he will not interfere with anything, he will not interfere with what you are doing. He will not even challenge you. What you want to do, do! Those working with him, he doesn’t manipulate, he doesn’t control, just run your office. That is the basic principle that will advance our democracy. But we turn it otherwise to say, it is weakness. We have to choose between the principles of democracy or a peculiar type of democracy that is peculiar to Nigeria . We have measured civilian regimes and military regimes. How would Abacha have done it? How would Murtala have done it? How did Obasanjo do it (no I don’t want to talk about that one o!) But the truth is that the principle of democracy is universal. So you have to compare what he is doing is what should be or how the other people did it. Somebody told me that the kind of president Nigeria needs is the one with iron hand. When he comes you know he has come. We shouldn’t take it for granted because instead of maximising the opportunity of the kind of person Jonathan is we are abusing it. I wont be as soft, as humble, as tolerant as he is in power. I will not be, I! I am saying so. You know I am saying the truth, if you step on me, I step on you! Let’s get it right this is the duty we have to perform together, the country should be above every personal interest. You mustn’t rule. People will come and tell me it is the turn of the Southeast, it is the turn of this…. Who zoned it to South-south now? Who zoned it to them? God! Who gave it to Jonathan? This is a man nobody ever gave any chance. Who didn’t even want. He wanted to remain in his small Bayelsa, they dragged him out overnight and you cannot see the hand of God in it? You think you can throw him away like that? It is not possible. It is because we do not believe in God that is why you cannot see God in anything. We should get it right. God has so pampered me in my life that I don’t sleep and worry about tomorrow. I don’t think about tomorrow, because I think my tomorrow is secured in God’s hand and I sleep very well. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/01/i-wont-be-tolerant-with-power-like-jonathan-anyim/

David Cameron is set to send hundreds of troops to Africa as part of the mission to crush al-Qaida and their fanatical allies, Whitehall sources have revealed. The deployment marks a major ramping up of UK efforts against the Islamist groups behind the Algeria hostage massacre and Mali rebellion. The elite troops will train Africa forces to fight the fanatics rather than waging war against the terrorists themselves, Whitehall sources stressed. But the escalation will fuel fears that our forces could get sucked into a major new conflict just as Afghanistan is coming to a close. The Prime Minister told President Francois Hollande that he is “keen” to do more to help French forces routing the rebels in Mali in a phone call. And his National Security Adviser Kim Darroch was in Paris today to talk about what more the British armed forces can provide. The RAF has already sent two huge C-17 transporter planes and a Sentinel spy plane to aid the assault on the Islamist rebels. And the Army is due to send around 40 soldiers to help train the weak and disorganised Malian government troops as part of an EU mission. A much larger number of British troops are now set to take part in a separate United Nations effort to raise an African force capable of taking on the Islamists. That means around 200 could be deployed, many more than the half a dozen trainers that the Government was talking about sending just a fortnight ago, a source said. Details are still being hammered out but the UK trainers could work in the countries contributing the forces. One Whitehall insider insisted that nothing had yet been finally agreed but added: “There is a lot of fast-moving development on this.” Details of the deployment come after David Cameron assured the President Hollande of his commitment to the war against the Mali rebels in a phone call on Sunday night. The PM’s official spokesman told reporters: “The French president gave an update on the progress that French and Malian forces have been making and also thanked the Prime Minister for the UK transport assistance. “The Prime Minister made clear that we fully support the French government’s actions, working with the Malian government at their request, to deny terrorists a safe haven in Mali. “The Prime Minister went on to explain that we are keen to continue to provide further assistance where we can, and depending on what French requirements there may be.” Mr Cameron was still opposed to committing combat troops to the war effort, the spokesman added. Details of the new commitment emerged just days after ministers announced that another 5,300 British troops are being axed. The soldiers will be handed their P45s in the summer in the latest round of cuts which will eventually leave the Army at its lowest levels for two hundred years. The Government has been slammed for imposing the austerity measures at a time when the Prime Minister has admitted that the terror threat from North Africa is mounting. Shadow Defence Secretary Jim Murphy called on ministers to be straight with voters about what the UK is getting into there. Mr Murphy said: “We support the mission in Mali. But it’s important that the Government keeps the public and parliament informed about all major decisions so that there is clarity about British aims in the region.”
