Politics › Governor Sullivan Chime Of Enugu Has Been Proven To Be A Cancer Patient by expertman(op): 6:47pm On Jan 25, 2013
Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime, has Thyroid cancer according to one of the sources knowledgeable about his true medical condition.

The governor who was visited by colleagues in London last Tuesday developed swellings around his left cheek last year that was diagnosed as Thyroid cancer.

The governor has reportedly undergone three surgeries to remove parts of his thyroid glands and lymph nodes that left him unable to speak for several months.

"Although Mr. Chime has began speaking these days, his left cheek remains swollen, which accounted for the reason he hid his left cheek from the camera in the photo released to Saharareporters on Tuesday", said our source

Mr. Chime took a group photograph with the governors of Akwa Ibom, Benue, and Rivers during a visit to see him in London on Tuesday.

Our source stated that the cancer did not go away and has actually metastasized, spreading to other parts of his body.

Politics › Nigerian Man Sentenced To Life In Jail For 2010 Independence Day Bombing by expertman(op): 2:43pm On Jan 25, 2013
A man described as an accomplice to MEND's leader, Henry Okah in the 2010 Independence Day Bombing in Abuja has been found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja today.

Edmund Ebiware was arrested on October 2, 2010 at the Bolingo Hotel by the Nigerian secret police for failing to provide the government information about the planning and eventual execution of the bombing that killed 12 people on October 1st 2010 at the Federal capital city of Abuja.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole presiding at the trial gave a three hour ruling squarely blaming Ebiware for failure to disclose the planned acts of terrorism against the Nigerian state to the appropriate authorities.

The conviction and sentencing of Ebiware did not go down well with him as he became agitated and fought off security agents as they dragged him off to prison.

The accused leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Henry Okah, was also last week convicted for the bombing by a South African high court in Gauteng. He will be sentenced in February 2013.

Politics › I Will Prosecute Lawan Say Keyamo -PM News, Lagos by expertman(op): 5:30pm On Jan 24, 2013
By Eromosele Ebhomele

As the seven-day ultimatum given by popular Lagos-based lawyer,Festus Keyamo, to the Nigerian police for the prosecution of Representative Farouk Lawan, expires, the lawyer has sent to the Attorney general of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, a draft of the charge he wants slammed on the lawmaker and his alleged accomplice, Boniface Emenalo, in the bribery allegation against them by Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola.

Keyamo, a social crusader and critic, had given the police authority an ultimatum to either begin the prosecution of the lawmaker and Emenalo “for agreeing to and actually accepting gratification from one Femi Otedola in order to doctor the report of the House ad-hoc Committee on fuel subsidy.”
He had warned that he would go to court, as a private prosecutor, to force the law enforcement agency to perform its job in the event that it refuses to act within the stipulated period.

Contained with the charge against the duo which was sent to Adoke are the proof of evidence which includes a recording of an alleged telephone conversation between Farouk Lawan and Femi Otedola contained in a memory card “wherein Farouk Lawan was soliciting or asking for gratification to doctor his report, and appealing to Otedola to keep it secret.”

Also included with the charge is the transcript of the said recording, the court processes including a sworn testimony on oath in Suit Number FCT/3839/2012: between ZENON PET. & GAS LTD. & ANOR. V. LAWAN & ORS, where the graphic details of how the accused persons solicited for, and received gratification from Femi Otedola are stated.

Keyamo said he was carrying out this action based on Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Act, Cap. C41, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
In a letter accompanying the charge to the AGF and made available to P.M. NEWS, Barrister Keyamo said he decided to send the legal materials to Adoke because after issuing the ultimatum, the police passed the buck over to his office for the inaction.

He said the police claimed it had finished the investigation and that Adoke’s office had just refused to file charges for reasons unknown to the public.

“May I kindly request that, by virtue of Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Act, Cap. C41, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, you endorse on the charge whether, having seen the charge, you are prepared to prosecute Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo for the counts in the charge or whether you have declined to prosecute at the public instance the counts in the said charge.

“The position of the law is that, before I commence private prosecution, you should be given the opportunity to prosecute or to decline to prosecute. This is what I have done by this letter.

I will expect your reply by the close of official business on Tuesday, 29 January 2013, to enable me determine my next line of action.

“I sincerely hope you will make your decision one way or the other as any indecision on your part will amount to a refusal to act as held by the Supreme Court in the case of CHIEF GANI FAWEHINMI V. COL. HALILU AKILU & ANOR: IN RE: ODUNEYE reported in 1987 (4 NWLR) P. 67,” Keyamo requested saying the refusal of the AGF to act would be the all-clear signal that is required by him to file the charge.

The four-count charge as prepared by Keyamo read: “that you, Honourable Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo, sometime between January and July 2012 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of Federal High Court, conspired to corruptly demand and receive the sum of $3,000,000.00 (Three million US Dollars) as gratification from Femi Otedola, and thereby committed the offence of Criminal Conspiracy contrary to Section 96 of the Penal Code Act, Laws of FCT and punishable under Section 97 the same Act.

“That you, Honourable Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo, sometime between January and July 2012 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of Federal High Court, corruptly asked for, received and obtained the sum of $620,000.00 (Six hundred and twenty thousand US Dollars) as bribe from Femi Otedola, and thereby committed the offence of gratification by an official contrary to Section 12(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, Cap C31, LFN 2004 and punishable under the same section.

“That you, Honourable Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo, sometime between January and July 2012 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of Federal High Court, corruptly agreed to receive the sum of $3,000,000.00 (Three million US Dollars) as gratification from Femi Otedola, and thereby committed the offence of gratification by an official contrary to Section 12(1)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, Cap C31, LFN 2004 and punishable under the same section.

“That you, Honourable Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo, sometime between January and June 2012 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of Federal High Court, threatened one Femi Otedola with injury to his reputation and his companies, with intent to cause alarm to Femi Otedola and to cause Femi Otedola to give you a gratification of $3,000,000.00 (Three million US Dollars) in order to avoid the said injury, and thereby committed the offence of Criminal Intimidation contrary to Section 396 of the Penal Code Act, Laws of FCT and punishable under Section 387 of the same Act.”

Romance › How To Talk To A Girl by expertman(op): 5:21pm On Jan 24, 2013
You see an attractive girl. She’s looking at you. You smile at each other. But what do you do next?

How on Earth are you going to get a conversation going?

Well, you’re in luck because what I’m about to tell you is advice that a lot of men will never know in their lifetime. It is the Art of Conversation! Yes, talking to a woman is where all the magic happens. And, depending how good of a conversationalist you are, it is where a woman decides to sleep with you or not. If you’re a smooth enough talker, you can get anyone to do just about anything

Ever heard of a guy named Grigori Rasputin? He was some random, crazy Russian dude who seduced the Russian Queen during Tsarist Russia in the early 1900’s. This guy was so smooth, that he actually convinced the queen that he was a mystical healer that could use magic to heal her sick son. Let me preface this by saying, Rasputin was one ugly motherlover.

Obviously, the guy was full of it… but he was as Usher says, “A True Player For Real.”

Here is a list of things you can do to really get a conversation going with women!

Take a chill pill when talking to a hot chick!#1 – Speak slowly! Yes, when somebody talks too quickly, they just look nervous, high-strung, and to women, this is a huge turn-off. See, hot chicks are always used to guys be all nervous and weak around them, so the slower you talk, the more calm and collected you’ll see, and the sooner you’ll be to being in bed with her.

#2 – Don’t lean in so much. See, guys who aren’t that good with women make it so obvious that they’re interested. They’ll lean and try and talk to a girl. They’ll try and get as close as possible, but sorry to say, this just turns women off. Learn to lean back while conversing with women.

#3 – Look into her eyes. Take a page out of Medusa, man! Conversation is all about engaging your audience, and part of getting a girl to engage is to look into her eyes while you’re talking to her.

#4 – Smile! This is the easiest thing to do. Smiling is psychologically proven to make people feel more at ease. See, beautiful women get hit on a million times a day, and most of these guys are try-hard, nervous wrecks. You need to come off as a fun and cool guy, and smiling helps you do this.

#5 – Touch her but not in a creepy way. Don’t be afraid to playfully whack her or hold her hand for a split second. If you watch guys who are really good with women, you’ll see that they touch them often… but they touch them in ways women want to be touched. This means no groping (yet), no touching of her more intimate areas, and no touching for a prolonged period of time. Just engage in light-hearted, fun touching.

#6 – Talk about things that interest her. That means don’t talk about videogames, cars, or the hockey game (unless, of course, any of those genuinely interest her). Talk about social life, friends, relationships, couples, and life goals. Tell her about your ambitions. Tell her about all the cool places you’ve been. Take her to that fantasy fun world and never look back.

But look… the Art of Conversation isn’t all that simple. There’s actually just so much more to it. And once you master it, it’ll almost be like you’ll never be lonely. It’s not just about having more women; it’s about having more friends and better relationships with people in general. It’s an incredibly useful skill to have!

Nairaland General › EFCC Release : EFCC To Arraign Malaysia-based Undergraduate Scammer Monday by expertman(op): 3:04pm On Jan 21, 2013
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has concluded arrangement to arraign a Malaysia- based Nigerian fraudsters, Hope Olusegun Aroke and his accomplice, Tafida Garuba Ibrahim before a Federal High Court, Lagos tomorrow, Monday January 21, 2013. They will be docked before Justice Mohammed Idris on two separate charges of Money laundering and False Declaration of Assets.

Aroje was one of two Malaysia-based Nigerian undergraduate fraudsters arrested by the EFCC in the closing weeks of 2012 at the 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos following a tip- off. The 25 year-old indigene of Okene, Kogi State claims to be a student of Computer Science at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia. But the Commission’s investigation fingered him as the arrow head of an intricate web of internet fraud scheme that traverse two continents.

His accomplice, Tafida Ibrahim is a Bureau De Change operator. Through him, Aroke was able to launder proceeds of multiple scams to the tune of over N31million. The duo enjoy a cozy business relationship that saw Ibrahim travel to Malaysia twice between September and October 2012 at the instance of Aroke.

When Aroke was arrested, a search conducted by EFCC operatives on his apartment led to the recovery of several items such as laptops, iPad phones, travelling documents, cheque books, flash drives, internet modem, and three exotic cars - a Mercedes Benz Jeep, One 4Matic Mercedes Benz Car and a Range Rover Sport SUV.

Operatives of the EFCC also downloaded over 80 implicating documents from the laptops recovered from him.

Politics › Sheikh Again Defends His Stand On Troops Deployment To Mali by expertman(op): 2:48pm On Jan 21, 2013
Fiery Nigerian based Islamic cleric and scholar, Sheik Ahmad Mahmud Gumi has again defended his position condemning deployment of troops to Mali claiming that troop deployment by ECOWAS and the French government have several hidden undertones.

Gumi in a new message, supporting a similar message released yetsteday, stated:

“Brothers and Sisters, fellow Nigerians, No human has the monopoly of sentiments or emotional outburst, therefore whoever abuses me for not understanding me I have forgiven it. I hold no qualms against anybody. My only concern is over the Evil people that kill innocent people for prejudice, malice, religious sentiments and share malevolence.

“In these categories of people are Maj. Nzeogwu & co who assassinated the premier Sardauna the main target of the 1966 coup. Others argue that some Christians also were killed, yes, but they were also killed by Christians too. The common denominator is that all these murderers that kill innocent people are Christians. What I am saying is that among the Christian are evil people that kill people. These evil killers can also be imbedded in our security apparatus. In fact they are more dangerous that the true boko haram who are mainly peasants, poor and untactful. However these are highly trained individuals that can manipulate, strategize, camouflage and coordinate their terror in such a way that they cannot be recognized. They are also the Dimkas and most recently the Azazis and many more still active in service.

“So today if there is any terror attack, depending on the magnitude, the coordination and sophistication in its execution and target selection, you can see the finger print of these agents of evil.
The draconian military occupation of the Muslim northern regions is a clear sign of such a plan. The Mali intervention is also not far from the plan. Why sending troops to Mali when our borders are porous? Spending millions that could benefit educational, heath and agricultural sectors that are starving. Youth unemployment that is declared by an ex-president as very volatile. We negotiated peace between the warring Sudanese factions until they decided to divide in a plebiscite, why not also in Mali? Is it not ‘what is good for the goose is also good for the gander’?.

“Nigerian involvement is Mali against the northern tawarik , is taking sides based on foreign colonial interest, and the hate of Islamists forming a government in the region. The difference between Islamist and Terrorist is that the former are fighters that are seeking independence and the rule of Islamic law through legal and accepted norms. Part of it breaking away from a country which there is anarchy or dictatorship. The army took power in Mali, and a section of the country wanted to break way. They usually bring religion for two reasons, one to mobilize fighters since a mujahid fights fearlessly, and secondly attract the sympathy of other Muslims. While terrorist, kill anybody Muslim or non-Muslim that does not concur to their ideology. Such ‘Islamic terrorism’ is condemned in unequivocal terms in the hadith of the prophet – alaihis Salam- and the Muslim leaders and scholars were the first victims of their evil.

“It is known fact that Christians in Nigeria are anti-Islam in everything even if it is beneficial to all. That explains the clamor against OIC membership at a time when we have representatives in the Vatican. That was where the clamor against Sharia law which has nothing to do with Christians. The Sharia checks crimes effectively yet, the Christians clergy prefer a state of lewdness, robbery, adultery, alcoholism than otherwise if such crimes can only be stopped by Islam. The prefer a harlot than a woman wearing hijab or niqab.

“If therefore, the Christian leadership of Nigeria is plunging us into Mali for this same reason of hatred and prejudice against Islamist, this is the warning they should heed to, because Islam is unconquerable. But if they want peace to reign then we should not take sides but be peace negotiators.
Imagine, Nigerian troops killing touareg in their own country, what moral ground do we have when later they influx into our country and cause havoc? May Allah guide us all and protect us from all evil.”
Politics › Jonathan Wins 2015 Election! By A.S.M Jimoh by expertman(op): 2:10pm On Jan 21, 2013
Jonathan wins 2015 election! This would likely be a headline the day after 2015 election. The naivety of the so-called opposition and the enlightened youths that the Jonathan administration is clueless are giving us a deluded hope of routing out Jonathan and his forty thieves in the PDP in 2015. We may after all come back to bite our fingers post 2015 election.

The Jonathan administration is battle ready for 2015. It has already set up his army on all fronts. Those of us privileged to access social network idealistically think that the amount of disenchantment expressed on twitter, facebook and other social networks has already dislodged him. This is delusion and deception combined. The Jonathan and his gangs do not give a damn. If only we know, twitter and facebook should just be supplement to our practical efforts.

The soldier who knows the war strategy does not care to go to the battle ground which is irrelevant. The Jonathan administration knows that dissatisfaction on twitter and facebook are not real voters. The real voters whose vote will although not count are the villagers who do not know how government affects the life of people. Anyway, they have been deliberately made to be so. Eventually at the eve of election, a Jonathan’s hundred naira, bale of cloth and mudus of rice to them would be considered as favours. When the time comes, voters’ cards would be exchanged for fifty naira. Jonathan and his PDP know the war strategy.

Yes, Jonathan and PDP are already fighting the war for 2015. Every security apparatus is now being polarized. Nigeria is now more divided along religious and ethnics identity by the government. Fringe ethnic and religious organizations have suddenly become visible and senselessly vocal. Leaders of such groups are co-opted into government in the guise of peace entrenching effort, receiving fat allowance to the detriment of their unsuspecting followers. They issue blackmailing statements to hoodwink the sentiments of their ignorant followers that their religious/tribal group is being schemed out, whereas it was just the case of one looter falling out with another master looter.

The financial war chest and militants arm for the war are being built by the treasury looting all over here and there by Jonathan’s forty thieves. The mind-boggling looting of the treasury through ministries, departments and agencies (MDA) by the Jonathan’s people is part of the preparation for 2015. Miscreants called ex-militants are now in the corridor of cash- apology to Tunde Asaju. It is not just a do-or-die affair, but a war that the 2015 election will be.

Editors and proprietors who are aligned to Jonathan are already denying critics of Jonathan space in their newspapers. They are hobnobbing with government thugs and sycophants. Such editors and proprietors would later go to publish dubious opinion polls that will provide the ground for rigging.
Jonathan has suddenly become a born again attending vigil and asking the Church to pray. He has begun to sweet-talk the Church that it is its prayers that have kept the country moving. All these are votes seeking strategy and divisive politics. When the time is ripe, gods of men (sic) will begin to campaign for Jonathan even though their congregations are among the masses subjected to extensive poverty and hopelessness by his administration.

The Jonathan administration has continued to behave as if he is a victim of the insecurity across the country; whereas he is a culprit. When in a dire security situation, a government behaves helplessly and looking victimized, such government is an accomplice. Example is the Pakistani government that portrays haplessness to the droning of its people by America. It behaves as if Taliban aligned militants have taken over Pakistan. Such are antics displayed by efficiently corrupt government in order to keep afloat.

When I see the sheer simplicity display on social forum about Nigeria politics, I conclude that we do not know where we were coming from, nor do we know our destination. As someone who actively participated in past elections, I should know where the Jonathan hopes to harvest their votes. It is not in the town of Abuja, Enugu, Kaduna, Ibadan or Lagos. And not even from the ‘wise guys’ on twitter and facebook. It is in the surrounding villages of the cities that Jonathan’s forty thieves will go to cheat the naïve opposition.

The so called oppositions should stop behaving as if they have all the time in their hands. They should know that winning election goes beyond the congregation of political parties. They should get their acts together and start organizing if they are serious in moving the Nigerian masses from the current state of abandonment.

The earlier we realize that the anti-PDP camp is disadvantaged in all fronts, the better for it. We do not possess the army to intimidate the electorates, nor the police to guard and escort thugs in the stealing and vandalization of election materials, nor the fuel subsidy, oil wells, import waiver license, the pension funds and all other forms of funds to be released later to compromise the already pauperized masses and the security agencies.

Besides, we have a population who is still easily intimidated by security apparatus. The prevailing situation in the country, especially where the Jonathan administration will not be getting much vote, is in dire security situation. It is a heavily militarized zone that already put people therein in perpetual fear. This is already an advantage to the Jonathan’s war plan for 2015.

The opposition can continue dilly-dallying on what to do. Jonathan and his people are already ahead of them. While the Jonathan is resurrecting and erecting octogenarian fixers in strategic positions, the opposition are throwing away their most valuable assets in the guise of old age. Someone just reminded me that Awolowo was 74 years when he contested in 1983. This even put to question the sincerity of the so called opposition.

As a popular wisdom goes, a malignant tumor is fought equally by the bitterest herb. The current PDP is a recalcitrant malignancy which must be stopped by all means. Yes, all means. It must be fought the way it fights us. Then we should go beyond twitter and facebook to educate the villagers, the illiterate, the ignorant and the religious/ethnic bigots and our conscience. I am already doing that. We should offer sacrifice. For instance, if you and I who makes noise on twitter and facebook donate 100 naira each out of our less-than-a-dollar-a-day earning, we would make difference. We would be able send someone among ourselves into the villages to enlighten; we would be able to print flyers and pamphlet to educate people who have no access to information about this misadventure called Jonathan administration; we would be able to counter the Nigeria Trash Authority (NTA) aided by Abattoir and Okupite, and we would be able to tell the truth about them even though they lie against us.

More so, it is not early to start asking INEC to show us how it is going to organize the next election, the preparation and the pattern that will be adopted. What about voter’s card registration and update? It is not too early either to know where the polling stations are. We should not wait till the eve of election for INEC to tell the locations and codes of the polling units. Then, it will be too late to bicker about unexisting polling unit.

This fight for liberation should not be left in the hand of the so called oppositions who sometimes are not better than the PDP. The youth should rise beyond twitter and facebook to express their dissatisfaction with the status quo, else we may come back 2015 to wait for 2019. Someone says God forbids. God will forbid, only if we act.

Politics › Why I Approached Governance With Anger –akpabio (interview) by expertman(op): 12:52pm On Jan 21, 2013
Governor GODSWILL AKPABIO of Akwa Ibom State is readily associated with the reputation of coming to governance with anger. He explains this anger as having been informed by the level of poverty, insecurity and underdevelopment in the land. The governor goes further to state the effort of his administration towards addressing these anomalies as well as the challenges. He also speaks on the controversial onshore-offshore dichotomy debate as well as his plans to link all the villages in the state to the National Grid, in this robust engagement with newsmen.

Your state, Akwa Ibom, going by the level of infrastructural developments, could be described as work in progress. What informed this philosophy?

It is the vision, it is the dedication, it is the sincerity, it is the commitment, it is the totality of your being. Is it your intention before coming to government that you really want to move the government forward? I think that is where the problem lies and if it is your intention to do so, then you will really do so.

I was at a State Executive meeting in 2011 when a governor attended our meeting and he was telling us about a state’s economy and he announced to us that his predecessor left behind N64 billion. If you look at the state and how much it gets in a month, for it to have saved up to N64 billion and the new governor met N64 billion, questions should have been asked. What did you leave behind? He left behind sectarian crisis and N64 billion in the bank. That is why sometimes they say if you don’t give to God, you give to devil. So, if you don’t give the money for the benefit of your people, then what would happen is that you have to use the money to cure the problems that you caused because the reaction to the neglect of the poor, to the neglect of the pauperized and the weak, to the neglect of human capacity building, would come. This is because in an attempt to say you are not corrupt, you keep billions in the bank in order to attract interest. And your business is booming while the society is dying and you are now saying if Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) comes you can account for the money. Is that governance? That is a very clear example of the fact that you don’t know how to manage because the money does not benefit the people, the money does not impact on the life of the people and the money is just kept in the bank. It does not have value.

Comparing your administration with previous ones, would you say there has been much difference in terms of revenue?

To compare my administration with the past regime, one thing is certain, before I came into government, cement was costing about N350 a bag. Today, cement is above N2, 000. So if the past administration collected about N5 – N6 billion a month and cement was selling at N350 as at that time and I am collecting N10 billion or N12 billion, almost double, and cement is above N2, 000, is there any gain? You could just have performed if you had the vision and sincerity. If you had the passion and commitment, you could also have impacted on the lives of your people, if you do not have ulterior motives; and this has been the problem. So, I am building the state from the scratch as if Akwa Ibom was born today. It wasn’t born today.

You used to say that you came into government with anger. Looking at your administration and its accomplishment in the last six years, would you still say you are angry?

I started with a lot of anger. I served as commissioner for five years and I knew that where I met the state was not where it ought to have been. I used my money to repair a particular road when I was commissioner when former President Olusegun Obasanjo was to pay a visit to the state. I went and brought a heap of sand to try to fill potholes along the road. I went to the governor at that time and I said sir, let’s do something about the road. He disagreed saying that it was better Obasanjo came and saw how he had been neglecting Akwa Ibom. I told him that the visitors that were coming would think the government was not performing. He said it was not his business to fix Federal roads and walked me out. So I was a man who over advised. At times you have to be very careful how you advise government because if you over advise government, you become an opposition even with your best intention. Let me also tell you this story.

An international award was given to me in Kenya and a television correspondent came and asked me: What was your motivating factor for all you have achieved in your state which won you the award? I was stunned because that was not the question I expected he would ask. I expected he would ask how was Akwa Ibom and the rest. So I looked at her and answered that question. I said: what motivated me was anger. Do you know that after my speech, they set up a panel of discussants on Kenya Television to discuss the “Anger of the Akwa Ibom Governor”? And the conclusion was let Kenya produce many angry politicians who can, on the spur of anger, bring monumental and phenomenal development to the country. If you are not angry with the state of insecurity and the state of underdevelopment, the state of poverty in the society; if you are not angry with the lack of development and infrastructure; if you are not angry that it is that duty of state to ensure that employment opportunity should is created for thousands of people, then you have no business in governance. Somebody must be angry. It is that determination and anger that spur you to greater height. But almost five and a half years later, the anger is waning. In fact, when I listen to the way people identify with what we do here and the thinking of the society, my anger keeps going down. This is because some of you are not partisan, you are not politicians; you always speak from the heart. Obasanjo came here and described the three segments of Akwa Ibom society that he interacted with. He said he met those who supported Godswill Akpabio; those who were neither here nor there and those who were in total opposition to Godswill Akpabio. According to him, those who were in support of Akpabio said: “Ah, the governor is performing excellently well.” Those who were neither here nor there said: “The man is trying.” Those who were in opposition said: “Yes, he has done well but he has money.”

My prayer is that anybody that is coming to Akwa Ibom should have money and should also do well. You see, the fact is that what Akwa Ibom is receiving is 0.00001 percent of what comes from the Federation Account monthly. All states in the Federation collect 24 per cent of Federal Revenue. What the states draw collectively is 24 per cent; the local governments collect 15 percent, the Federal Government takes 52 percent, the collectible fund takes about 3 per cent, then 9 percent goes to FCT and another one goes to Intervention Fund. Let me go further, if the Federal Government had agreed to increase derivation and Akwa Ibom was able to get 1 percent, I would have transformed Akwa Ibom to a small Dubai. You wouldn’t need to go abroad again. I am not criticising, I am only stating the situation of things as regards how much we are getting and the transformation we have put in place in Akwa Ibom.

The onshore-offshore issue seems to have come up again. What is really the situation, especially as Akwa Ibom is an oil producing state?

You know the argument about onshore and offshore. You know that there is dichotomy on revenue from oil. The onshore and offshore issue is still there; it has not been totally removed. The compromised position was that states are to be paid for oil wells located within 200 meters isobaths. That they came to agree on 200 nautical miles was said in an interview in order to incense the North. No African country has the capability to produce oil within 200 nautical miles on international waters. The man said in his interview that they are paying derivation for 200 nautical miles on international waters. There is element of falsehood in that in order to cause violence. He knows the truth; he said it so that he can get support. I know Nigerians. If the totality of dichotomy is removed, Lagos will produce the highest quantity of oil, because Bonga oil field is located within the Lagos area. It is deep sea oil that produces about 800,000 barrels of oil a day. If the issue of dichotomy is removed today and they say there is no longer dichotomy, the state that might be the highest oil producing state in Nigeria is Lagos. Go and look at the amount that they pay derivation on. It is not commensurate to the oil sourced because the rest of oil wells are beyond 200 metre isobaths. The governors are saying that exploration is affecting aquatic life. It has impact on the livelihood of the people on the shore because life can never be the same. In the past, you could take white sand by the shore line and use it to brush your teeth but now the sand is black with the ecosystem and the continuous burrowing. And you know this oil will not last forever. So, if we continue doing that for another 25 years, because the oil will finish in 30 years, the whole of this Niger Delta will finish while Nigeria will continue in Abuja. Why don’t you allow the people to have a reasonable share while they wait for the day when there would be no more oil to tap? You can’t to take that opportunity away. And what are the implications to national security? It was the same derivation issue and same onshore-offshore issue that gave birth to militancy in the Niger Delta and Nigeria had nothing to sell for months. Under late President Yar’Adua, there was a month we had nothing to sell. So why do you as a country continuously take decisions that take us backwards? Even there is something that has to do with our Railway. There was a time in this country when I was going to the Nigerian Military School in the 1970s. I took a train from Aba to Zaria. Years later, the Railway had disappeared from Nigeria. While others are now going to the moon to see how the surface of the moon looks like, Nigeria can no longer service its Railway. Is that the kind of legacy we want to leave for our children? I think we should focus on doing things that will unite this country rather than doing things that will divide us. I am very worried that we should be promoting religious dichotomy today when Nigeria is supposed to be a secular state. I take decisions based on the Nigerian constitution. My Chief Security Officer is a Muslim, from Kano. For the past six years, my ADC is from Azare in Bauchi State; he is Muslim. He had worked with me for over six years. My first orderly for the first four years came from Benue State. The present one for the last two years is from Kaduna State. I recognise Nigeria in people. It is incumbent on leaders to live by example. If Nigerians begin to focus on religion, on things that divide us, it means people like my CSO, my ADC and the rest will be from my tribe. Leadership must be seen to be promoting the unity of Nigeria. We must live by example. I am a beneficiary of good governance and that was why in 2011 anywhere I went for campaign, I kept telling my people that if I was not contesting election, I would have voted for Governor Godswill Akpabio.

Are there adequate safeguards for the road projects in the state?

Since 2007, not even on a kilometre of road that I have done would you see a single pothole. It wasn’t like that, because we are still part of the Niger Delta. I have done drainages; I have done major underground drainage system. In fact, the third one is the one on my former governor’s way. We have done a lot of drainages to take care of flooding so that within two minutes after major rainfall, you can hardly find water on the earth surface in Akwa Ibom. Those are the kind of drainages we have done. The President even advised that we could do a documentary so that it could be put in National Library for future reference. This is the kind of legacy we are living behind. I prefer to dispense rather than acquire. Let me dispense goodwill, let me dispense dividends, let me dispense good governance. There was a bridge that collapsed in 1969. Do you know that those who tried to pass that bridge could not? There was a man that was trying to pass that bridge with an okada, he could not do so after much effort. Also a prominent man was to be buried around that area but guests could not go through the bridge and the entertainment had to be moved to Port Harcourt. You can’t even understand what I am talking about. In my village, the economic activities there died. There was no single filling station; there was nothing for 29 years. Any time I was going home, I would park my car at Ikot Ekpene and even the okada man that would carry me must be somebody who knew me, because he would refuse no matter how much you offered. You have to understand what I am talking about. When I tell you I was angry, you need to understand.

How would you assess the country’s democracy 14 years after?

You need to know that there are more projects in Nigeria between 1999 and today than between 1960 and 1998. So no matter how you hate democracy, don’t ever forget to highlight that side. The Military under-developed this country. There are many more projects in the states. I was in Anambra, I was in Awka. You would be surprised that they have built some good roads in the area. For one and half hours I was on good road on Enugu to Awka. I was very happy. This came about through democracy. If you were to post a military governor from Sokoto to Akwa Ibom, after doing the road that comes to government House, there is no reason that he would start thinking of doing roads in another area or community. Is that his community? He is on military posting. This was the situation we had for 35 years in the country. Nobody can love your people more than you do.

What measures are you putting in place to safeguard or maintain the infrastructure and other projects your government has put in place by way of law enactment so that successive administrations can equally work on?

As part of efforts at ensuring sustainability, I signed a bill into law which is on establishment of infrastructure maintenance agency recently, and I want them to employ 450 youths, 150 per senatorial district and open three offices in three senatorial districts. They will take over aspects of road maintenance, filling potholes and maintaining the street lights and the rest of them.Well, the issue of road maintenance does not lie with the workers, it lies with the leadership. If you have somebody who has the same vision with you and he becomes the governor, he will do that. If you don’t have somebody who shares the same vision with you and he becomes the governor and notwithstanding the maintenance agency you have set up, everything will go backwards. My prayer is that God will bring a successor that will think like me, that will be part and parcel of the policies we are doing, somebody who will go with the same passion to see to the full implementation of the policies of government.

Are you also thinking of developing the human capital?

There is always something you don’t have to do, you leave for the next government, because if Jesus Christ had done everything, what will the Reverend Fathers do? I would leave that in my hand over note that the next government should focus a lot on that. But I am sure that for every single contract we give out, employments are being given. Foreign contractors doing the projects are not working with foreigners, except supervisors. They are working with Akwa Ibom people. For every single job that we give out, hundreds and thousands of Akwa Ibom people are being employed at any point in time. At the same time, conversely, we are also trying to bring in industries because that is the focus now. I am happy to announce to you that in partnership with a company, we are sending out the first batch of people to be trained already. In 2008, when I realized that Aluminum Company may collapse because they didn’t have enough gas, I had to sign an agreement with an energy company that I would buy gas from them at Two dollars per cubic feet and then distribute it straight to Independent Power Plants and Aluminum Smelter Company. They are in with an investment of over $350 million. So, we have just finished plans to process gas now in those stations. We are also trying to do an underground gas pipeline through to NIPP in Calabar to supply gas through that project. In February this year, we are going to get the president to come and commission that gas processing plant. We have done the first phase of the plant; they are processing the gas now. We have also sent a lot of our children abroad for training. When I came on board, in the whole state, we were having one consultant and that was already in the ministry as a director. I had to employ additional 30 medical consultants to come and be attending to children and others in the hospital. Today, I have sent a lot of doctors abroad to go and study in different places so that they can come back and offer services to the people. Then, I also realised the need to have additional institutions because of the increase in enrolments in the state. It is the policy of the state that any child who is a Nigerian is entitled to free education up to senior secondary level. There are no discriminations at all. Any school that you see that has not been refurbished, were handed over to the missions and those missions instead want money for the refurbishment and I said I am not giving them money. So any missionary school, whether primary or secondary school, that allows us to step in to intervene, I would step in and that also include hospitals. Now, these hospitals are finding it difficult to have indigenous staff and also consultants as they used to do when they were sending Reverend Fathers and Nurses from outside Nigeria to come and help in offering services.

We also have what we call Inter-ministerial Direct Labour job. Over N20 billions, in a year, is spread out into N5 million and N10 million and given to each individual for empowerment across the state. They are the ones doing the electrification jobs you have seen. We are still giving transformers to communities because I believe that before I leave office all the over 3,700 villages in Akwa Ibom must be connected to the National Grid. All the electricity projects we are doing now will be taken over by the Federal Government once they are connected to the National Grid. A government must be committed to providing basic amenities for its people – water, electricity, good education, good health care, among others. It doesn’t matter who owns it; whether it is owned by the Federal Government or the state government, what matters is that the state has light. There is, therefore, no way any government would avoid the aspect of capacity building. The future of the country lies in education. I am hoping that if my children cannot get employment on the basis of quota, they should get employment on the basis of their skills.

Politics › Ohanaeze Ndigbo: MASSOB Spits Fire…warns S’east Governors by expertman(op): 1:38pm On Jan 17, 2013
From EMMANUEL UZOR, Onitsha

The new Igbo leader and leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has warned the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi, to desist from distracting Ndigbo trying to conduct another election in Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Uwazuruike said Ndigbo would no longer allow the governors whom he described as garrulous to continue to destroy their unity by sacrificing the fortune of the people on the altar of sheer greed and personal political aggrandisement.

He described as distraction the action of Ebonyi State Government to start talking about election of the president general and national officers of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation when the election had been contested and won. “Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been conducted and completed and the immediate past president generals, including Justice Eze Ozobu and Amb. Ralph Uwechue, among other prominent Igbo sons, were in attendance and Chief Garry Igariwey was elected unopposed when his compatriots from Ebonyi State stepped down for him. “It is quite unfortunate that the governor is planning another election and as Igbo leader, I am warning him that Ndigbo shall no longer continue to suffer in the hands of the governors.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not an appendage of the state governors and MASSOB has come out to identify with Ohanaeze Ndigbo. There will be no other election of Ohanaeze Ndigbo anywhere, any place and anytime because the election has been conducted last Saturday in Enugu.” Uwazuruike also warned that Ndigbo would resist any incursion from the South-east governors or any government to drag its apex socio-cultural organisation into politics of selfishness, adding that, “for very long now, the governors had used Ohanaeze Ndigbo to achieve their selfish aims but I am saying that from henceforth, we will not tolerate any form of distraction from any governor.”

He further said that Ndigbo had been united and would not allow any state government to use faceless elements to distract the unity of purpose currently in place and urged any aggrieved member to seek redress in the law court instead of allowing himself to be used to cause disaffection in Igboland. “There will be consequences for any undue distraction from the governors in or out of office; they will continue to face the music because I will not permit any undue distraction again in Igboland.

Anybody that felt aggrieved should go to court because the election has been won.” The MASSOB leader also disclosed that he would deploy over 5000 MASSOB securitymen to the venue Ebonyi State Government would conduct their election, stressing that the governor would take the consequences of every eventuality. “Every prominent Igbo son including Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, myself and others attended and witnessed the election which was held at the Ime-Obi, Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat, Enugu on Saturday,” he said.

However, Daily Sun gathered that Uwazuruike was reacting to the radio announcements and advertorials from Ebonyi State government that there would be another election into the office of the president general in which they are sponsoring Senator Azu Agboti.

Celebrities › Lady Gaga’s Machine Gun Bra Worn During Concert Causes Outrage by expertman(op): 3:43pm On Jan 15, 2013
NO stranger to controversy, Lady Gaga has caused outrage once again by brandishing a machine-gun bra just a month after twenty six people were killed in a US school massacre.

The popstar donned the outfit, consisting of two plastic assault rifles strapped to each cup, during her concert in Vancouver, Canada.

But critics have suggested the garb is insensitive and in poor taste after 20 children and six adults were killed in a horrific massacre at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook primary school on December 14 last year.

A national debate on gun control is continuing to be played out in the US while the popstar flaunted the weapons during the North American leg of her Born This Way Ball tour.

Gaga has so far made no comment on the outfit.

Has she gone too far with this one?

Politics › How Anenih, Alison-madueke, Others Robbed Nigeria Of N234bn Meant For Road by expertman(op):
Despite his indictment, Mr. Anenih has now been appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan to head the NPA board.
Tony Anenih, recently re-appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan to head the board of the Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, does not have a clean past in managing public funds, a 2009 senate report said.

In December 2009, a damning report detailing how Mr. Anenih, a former works minister and then leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), allegedly mismanaged billions of naira meant for the rehabilitation and construction of Nigerian roads, was listed for debate – for the third time in a row – by the Senate.
The transport probe report is filled with revelations of alleged serial malpractices, and shows how, in 10 years (1999 to 2009), through multiple contract inflation frauds, connivance between contractors and government officials, some N645 billion was spent on 4,752 kilometres of road; shortchanging the government to the tune of N49 million on each kilometre of road worked on, amounting to approximately N233 billion.

The report, produced by a senate ad-hoc committee on transportation, led by Heineken Lokpobiri, blamed Anenih and his successors in the ministry, for the poor state of Nigerian highways during the period and called for their prosecution.
The report
The report shows that Nigeria’s public transportation sector, under the watch of Mr. Anenih and three others, was a cesspit of monumental corruption and fraud as contractors connived with government officials to defraud the country.
The report contains details of what its authors said was one of the nation’s largest portfolio of official scams at the time.

During its 20-day sitting in 2008, the ad-hoc committee said it scrutinised 532 written memoranda and listened to 248 presentations.
The committee said ministers and other senior officials of the ministries of transportation and Finance between 1999 and 2009 awarded multiple contracts for the same roads and paid for unapproved contracts.
According to the report, between 1999 and 2009, the ministry of transportation gave contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of 11, 591 km roads at a cost of N1.008 trillion – about N87 million per km.
During the same period, only 41 per cent of the roads were worked on, after close to 64 per cent of the contract value was paid.
In the 10-year period, work was done on only 4,752 kilometres of roads for N645.8 billion, at very high cost of N135.8 million per kilometre, defrauding the government N49 million on each kilometre.
“There was no commensurate value for funds expended on the roads from 1999 to 2009,” the committee said.

The committee said contractors, who were usually selected on questionable grounds, liaised with the leadership of the ministries and reduced the scope of awarded contracts without an equivalent scaling down on costs. In all cases, no one received any query from the internal audit.
The report said that under the reign of Tony Anenih, Adeseye Ogunlewe, Obafemi Anibaba and Cornelius Adebayo, road contracts were awarded depending only on estimates that were submitted by the bidding contractors, without prior design by the ministry.

The ministry also “fixed prices even before the roads were actually designed by the companies,” the report said.
The report detailed how about half – 46 per cent – of the companies that got jobs under Mr. Anenih and the three were not registered at the Corporate Affairs Commission at the time they were awarded contracts, against contract management rules.
It described the engineering representatives of the transport ministry as some of the most corrupt and lacking in technical expertise. “They granted clearances to the contractors when the jobs were far from finished,” the report said.
The current Petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who – as minister of Transportation and Works – literally wept while inspecting the condition of the Benin-Ore road, was also indicted in the report.
The panel said Mrs. Alison-Madueke paid more than N1.2 billion into the private account of a company called Digital Toll Gates Limited, against the written advice of the Due Process Office.
Recommended for prosecution
The senators recommended that Tony Anenih, Adeseye Ogunlewe, Obafemi Anibaba and Cornelius Adebayo, who headed the transport ministry within that period, along with their Ministers of State and the Permanent Secretaries be prosecuted by the government for defrauding the nation.

The report also recommended the prosecution of Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who was the permanent secretary during the administration of all the ministers except Mr. Anenih’s. He was alleged to have crafted a means of splitting contracts into sizeable amounts to bring the values within the approving authority of his office. With this, projects with single appropriation were allegedly awarded by him separately sometimes to non-existing companies.
Swept under the carpet
That report was never considered on the floor of the senate.
The report, which took the ad hoc committee 18 months to produce, kept appearing on the senate’s order paper as a matter to be considered at the next plenary till February 2010 when it was again listed to be debated and adopted in March. That was its last listing before that senate session ended in June 2011.
Ayogu Eze, a member of the committee and spokesman for the senate at the time, said the report could have “skipped the minds of those in the Senate leadership” or, perhaps, the Rules and Business committee of the Senate failed to slate it for discussion.

The Rules and Business Committee schedules matters handed down to it by the Senate leadership for discussion.
Alloysius Etok, then chairman of the Rules and Business Committee explained at the time he could no longer schedule the probe report for debate because he got no green light from the then senate leadership, led by David Mark.
“I’m trying to prioritise them (issues to be discussed by the Senate) and again, they (the authors of the report) did not finish that job,” Mr. Etok said. “I was trying to weigh the options which I am still trying to talk to the leadership to see if we can now take the report in part. If the leadership agrees that we treat it in parts, then I will bring it up for the interest of the public and Nigerian people. If the leadership says we should wait till they bring the second part of the report, then I will wait.”
The report indicting Mr. Anenih was the first part of a larger investigation of alleged corruption in the transport sector since 1999 by the Lokpobiri led Senate ad-hoc committee.
The second part of the report, which lawmakers said detailed the misuse of the funds meant for the marine and air transport sector during that time, was never submitted.
Mr. Jonathan ignores indictment to reappoint Anenih
President Jonathan has now brushed aside that indictment hanging on Mr. Anenih’s neck, appointing him to head the board of the NPA. Critics say the appointment has once again underlined the president’s non-commitment to the war against corruption.

The presidency could not be reached to comment for this story. His spokespersons, Reuben Abati and Doyin Okupe, did not answer or return calls made to their telephones.

Politics › How British Police Exposed Babalakin’s Alleged N3.4b Deal With Ibori by expertman(op): 6:25pm On Jan 08, 2013
The London Metropolitan Police blew the lid off the N3.4billion allegedly laundered through Mauritius for ex-Governor James Ibori to buy a Challenger jet, sources said yesterday.

Embattled Bi-Courtney chair Olawale Babalakin and four others have been charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) over how the money was wired.

The others are Alex Okoh, Stabilini Visioni Limited, Bi-Courtney Limited and Remix Nigeria Limited.

They are also to face a 27-count charge in the High Court of Lagos State , Ikeja Division, bordering on the siphoning of $11.3million abroad for Ibori through Erin Aviation Account in Mauritius.

It is believed in some political and business circles that the filing of charges against the five suspects was not aimed at witch-hunting Babalakin, who is a reputable player in the construction and aviation sectors. A government source, who pleaded not to be named, debunked such insinuations yesterday.

Besides, it was gathered that the alleged laundering of N3.4billion was discovered during the London Met Police’s comprehensive investigation into Ibori’s activities.

It was also learnt that after the ex-governor was convicted, the Met Police made its investigation report available to the EFCC for “Nigerian content” of others allegedly implicated in the money laundering.

It was learnt that some evidence from the UK police might be tendered during the trial of the suspects.

A source conversant with the investigation said: “The Metropolitan Police and the EFCC established that the money in question was transferred from Delta State Government account to some companies owned by Babalakin and it was further laundered through Erin Aviation Account in Mauritius to a company in Canada where the Challenger aircraft was bought.

“All the transaction documents will be tendered during the trial of the five suspects. If the court deems it fit, relevant desk officers in Met Police might be invited to give evidence during the trial.

“Once the trial takes off, the public will have access to the records of the court, including the proof of evidence.

“This is certainly a case involving joint collaboration between Metropolitan Police and the EFCC.”

Another source said: “After getting some clues from Met Police, it will not speak well of our anti-corruption campaign for the EFCC not to step into the matter.

“Do not forget that we have bilateral agreement with the UK on money laundering and other related crimes.”

On alleged witch-hunt of Babalakin, the government source said: “This trial has nothing to do with the termination of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway contract as being insinuated.

“Government took note of Babalakin’s roles as a critical local investor and made sure the EFCC went about its investigation in the best international practices.

“In fact, when Babalakin was initially arrested and grilled, the EFCC did not make it a media issue. The businessman was given a fair hearing and decent treatment.

“The case became public knowledge and attracted controversy when he did not fully honour his commitment to appear for arraignment in court. This commitment was part of the conditions which made the EFCC to grant him an administrative bail.

“President Goodluck Jonathan is not a vindictive leader at all; he has no cause to witch-hunt or frustrate Babalakin because of his closeness to any former President.

“The suspect is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN); he knew what transpired during his interaction with the EFCC. He also wrote statements on oath; he should tell the public his testimony to the EFCC.”

Barring last-minute hitches, the trial of Babalakin and others will begin next Thursday.

The charge sheet, dated November 21, 2012 was filed by A.M. Yusuf, Esq. on behalf of the EFCC and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Politics › ACN To PDP: Prove Jonathan’s Achievements With Facts by expertman(op): 6:05pm On Jan 08, 2013
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to substantiate achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan with verifiable facts if it feels that the President is being unfairly criticised over his administration’s poor performance.

The party was reacting to a statement credited to the PDP that Jonathan is being criticised by the opposition because he is from a minority geo-political zone.

The ACN, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, expressed shock and disappointment that the PDP that has always been quick to tout its nationalist credentials will stoop so low to stoke the fire of sectional politics.

It said: “If the PDP feels that the President is being unfairly criticized over his administration’s poor performance, it should use verifiable facts and figures, not cooked-up statistics, to counter such criticism, instead of resorting to a desperate tactics that could inflame the polity.”

The ACN reminded the PDP that Jonathan, as a democratically-elected leader, is subject to criticism from those who elected him into office as well as the opposition, which has a stake in the well-being of the country.

“President Jonathan is not an oracle or the head of an absolute monarchy who cannot be criticised. He is a democratically-elected president whose actions are subject to scrutiny by the people, irrespective of what part of the country he comes from.

“The statement credited to the PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh, is unprecedented. Never before has the spokesman of a ruling party or a central government in Nigeria accused the opposition of criticising the president because he is from one part of the country. This statement can only be the product of a lazy and desperate party official, who will find the easy way out, even at the risk of setting the country on fire, just to keep his job,” the party said.

Wondering why the PDP did not blame the scathing criticism of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Ardua on the fact that they are from a section of the country, considering that both former leaders were not spared by the opposition during their tenure, the ACN said: “The records are there for anyone who cares to check that we never spared former Presidents Obasanjo and Yar’Adua over their actions or inaction while in office. Why, therefore, should we not criticize President Jonathan over his actions and inactions in his official capacity? Why is anyone now pandering to sectional sentiment?

“It is also on record that the ACN did more than any other party, including his own party, the PDP, to push for his assumption of office as acting president, on the strength of the country’s constitution, when his principal was sick and flown out of the country. This was at a time the PDP itself was waffling over the issue.

“Therefore, we reject and condemn the irresponsible accusation that President Jonathan is being criticised because of the part of the country he hails from. We reject the cheap blackmail that our criticism of the President’s action amounts to abuse of his person. We say, unequivocally, that while we have nothing but total respect for the office of the President, this will not prevent us from criticising his administration as constructively and responsibly as we have been doing.

“We note that there is nothing that the opposition has said about the Jonathan administration’s nonperformance and cluelessness that other Nigerians, including clerics, politicians and public commentators, have not said, and wondered why the PDP has singled out the opposition for castigation.”

Politics › 2015: Sambo Denies Joining Obasanjo To Fight Jonathan by expertman(op): 5:20pm On Jan 08, 2013
Vice President Namadi Sambo has denied joining forces with former President Olusegun Obasanjo against President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 election.

There have been reports that Sambo facilitated Obasanjo’s meeting with traditional rulers in Kaduna, where he allegedly sought their support.

Sambo described the reports as “wrong and mischievous”.

The Vice President, who responded yesterday through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) (Media and Publicity), Umar Sani, said Obasanjo’s visit to Kaduna was to commiserate with the people over the death of Governor Patrick Yakowa.

Sambo, who explained how the meeting took place and what transpired at the forum, pointed out that the event was not only held in the open but also covered by journalists.

His words: “The visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was merely to commiserate and console with the Vice President and the good people of Kaduna State. The visit with his entourage was witnessed by journalists.

“After the visit, there was a meeting already scheduled by the Vice President between the new governor and the traditional rulers in the State, which was held within the same vicinity where the former President met with the Vice President for the condolence visit.

“The essence of the meeting put together by the Vice President between the new Governor and the traditional rulers was to mobilise support and cooperation of the traditional rulers for the new governor.

“That particular meeting was not in isolation because it was part of series of meetings being held to mobilise support for the new governor.

“The reason why former President Obasanjo was at the meeting was because it was in the same Gen. Hassan Katsina House and his arrival concided with the time of the meeting.

“More importantly, he was invited by the Emir of Zauzzau, that since his colleagues were there, former President Obasanjo should come over and greet them.

“His presence at the meeting was to greet the traditional rulers and wish them well. Moreover, the meeting was held in the open and everyone that spoke did so in the open and in the presence of others.

“It is also instructive to note that the meeting was covered by journalists. In view of this, we wonder where the story of Obasanjo and the Vice President teaming up came from, that there is a problem brewing in the Presidency.

“There is nothing like that, it is just an insinuation intended to put the Presidency to ridicule in the eyes of the public.

“The entire report is wrong and mischievous”.

President Jonathan has said he is yet to speak on his political future, which has been hit by controversies. Only last week, Abuja streets were adorned with posters announcing the President’s interest in the 2015 election.

The Presidency disowned the posters, stressing that those pasting them were out to distract Dr. Jonathan.

Politics › Gunmen In Nigeria Fire On Muslim Worshippers, Kill Three by expertman(op): 4:51pm On Jan 08, 2013
Gunmen on a motorcycle kill three people when they open fire on a group of Muslim worshippers in the northern Nigerian city of Kano, the latest such attack in the region, say police.

KANO – Gunmen on a motorcycle killed three people on Monday when they opened fire on a group of Muslim worshippers in the northern Nigerian city of Kano, the latest such attack in the region, police said.

Three gunmen fired into a group of people preparing for evening prayers in a business district of the city, the largest in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north, police spokesman Magaji Majia told AFP.

“The three gunmen came on a motorcycle around 6:00 pm and opened fire on a group of people getting ready for the evening prayers at a popular tea-selling spot opposite the zoo,” Majia said.

One person was also injured in the attack.

Gunmen thought to belong to Islamist extremist group Boko Haram have done scores of such shootings in Nigeria’s north, though criminal gangs also carry out violence under the guise of the group.

Violence related to Boko Haram’s insurgency has left some 3,000 people dead since 2009, including killings by the security forces.

Crime › EFCC Arrests Two Undergraduates, Six Others Over Internet Scam by expertman(op): 7:40pm On Jan 06, 2013
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two undergraduate Internet scammers and six other fraudsters at the upscale 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island in Lagos.

One of the undergraduates, Hope Olusegun, a 25 year-old indigene of Okene, Kogi State, according to a statement from the commission, claimed to be a student of Computer Science at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia. He was arrested by operatives of EFCC over allegations of fraud and internet scam.

The statement said that a petition by a concerned group alerted the anti-graft agency about the activities of Olusegun and his co-travelers at the elite 1004 Housing Estate where the fraudsters engaged in fraudulent activities of obtaining money by false pretences and forgery.

A search conducted by EFCC operatives at Olusegun’ s apartment is said to have led to the recovery of several items such as laptops, iPad phones, travelling documents, cheque books, flash drives, internet modem, and three exotic cars – a Mercedes Benz Jeep, One 4Matic Mercedes Benz Car and a Range Rover Sport SUV.

When asked how he came about the cars, Olusegun said the cars belonged to his sister who he claimed lives in the United Kingdom.

The statement reads in part, ”Operatives of the EFCC also downloaded over 80 implicating documents from the laptops recovered from Olusegun. However, the Commission is making effort to track down other members of Olusegun’s syndicate who are currently at large.

“Tunde Wasiu Sodiq, another undergraduate and member of another syndicate with close affinity to Olusegun’s gang was also nabbed by operatives of the EFCC at the Housing Estate.

Besides Sodiq, six other members of the syndicate were equally arrested. They are: Badmus Akeem O, Ajijola Oluwatosin Emmanuel, Adebesin Olalekan, Raji Resaq O, Ajibola Adeniyi and Adeboye Lamidi.

“Their arrest was sequel to a petition on their notorious activities at the Housing Estate. Sodiq (23) hails from Lagos and claimed to be an undergraduate of Brandry University, Malaysia .

The leader of the syndicate, Badmus Akeem, hails from Ayetoro, Ogun State and attended Oniwaya High School, Agege. He claimed to be a traveler who does odd jobs wherever he travels.

“’I decided to move to Malaysia to further my education while I do “Hot jobs” as well. I just got back a week ago before the festive period and also produce music and manage artistes,” he claimed.

On why he chose to live at the expensive 1004 estate where he and his friends pay N30, 000 daily, he said it was to avoid the stress that friends and relations could bring to him.

“I didn’t stay on the Mainland in Lagos because of stress of friends when you just get back from abroad,” he said.

“Sodiq said that the Range Rover Sport car which was recovered from them belonged to his mother despite the fact that the car bears his alias, “T.Wizzle” .

He stated in his statement that the mother decided to customise the car’s number plate after the name of his first son. “Other items recovered by the Commission include laptops, flash drives, internet modem, cheque books and a host of others. They are to be arraigned in court soon.”

Nairaland General › Shocking Story Of Father Who Slaughtered 4-month-old Son by expertman(op): 4:53pm On Jan 06, 2013
A 46-year-old herbalist, Hosea Folorunso, has been arrested by the police in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, for allegedly killing and using his four-month-old son for rituals.

The suspect was said to have slaughtered his son, Sunday Folorunso, on December 31 at about 11:55 p.m. and hurriedly buried the corpse in his compound.

Residents who saw him performing the ritual reported him to the police.

While parading the suspect before the media in Lokoja on Friday, the state’s Police Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Katsina, said that on the 31st of December when Nigerians were expecting the New Year with joy and happiness, a herbalist at Egbe was busy perfecting plans to kill his own son for rituals.

According to him, on the fateful day around 11:55 p.m., the suspect quietly took his son, who was deep in sleep, and murdered him in a gruesome manner. He then dug a shallow grave in his compound and hurriedly buried the corpse after allegedly removing some parts of the body.

Some of the parts allegedly removed included the brain, the intestines, among others.

Alhaji Katsina said that his men laid ambush and arrested Folorunso, following a tip-off, and that after thorough investigations, he was brought to the headquarters in Lokoja for further interrogation.

The commissioner said the man had led the police to where he buried the remains of his son in his own compound.

According to him, a renowned pathologist in the state was performing an autopsy on the corpse, and that as soon as the result of the test was ready, the suspect would be taken to court for prosecution.

Speaking on the development, the Liaison Officer 1 of Yagba West Local Government Area, Mr. Tunji Aro, said that such a thing had never happened before in the history of the area.

Aro assured newsmen and the community that adequate security measures would be put in place to forestall a recurrence. He, however, called on residents of the area to be vigilant and report any strange face or unpleasant behaviour to security agents for quick action.
