How the 'Beast' has changed over the years. The presidential state car has taken on many guises over the years since the first model in 1939 to the current model that hit the roads in 2018. 1939: The first 'Beast' The first version of the presidential car that became known as the 'Beast' was the Lincoln K Sunshine Special used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1939 until 1942. Features included a two-way radio, extra-wide running boards and handles for Secret Service agents to grab and ride on the outside of the car. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, armored doors, bulletproof cars and machine guns were added to the car. 1942: The first with protective armor Built during the Second World War, the 1942 Lincoln Custom was the first presidential car fitted with protective armor. The armor made the car 7,000 pounds heavier so had to be fitted with a Bendix Aviation brake servo, to help the driver slow the car down. 1950: Ford takes over When Harry Truman was elected president in 1948 he changed the chosen carmaker from General Motors to Ford supposedly because GM wouldn't let him use its cars during the White House race. Features of the new Lincoln Cosmopolitan included armour-plated bodywork and extra headroom to fit tall silk hats worn at the time. The car was modified by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 to include the 'bubble-top' so people would be able to see him in the car if the roof was up. 1961-1972: JFK's assassination ends the open-top car Four versions of the Lincoln Continental were made between 1961 and 1972. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was riding in the car with the code name SS-100-X when he was shot dead, spelling the end to the open-top presidential car and sparking a ramp-up of bulletproof materials and armor plating. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9172409/Seven-Beast-limos-four-presidents-makes-Bidens-inauguration-biggest-procession-ever.html?ito=social-facebook

High up in China's Wuling Mountains sits two Buddhist temples dated 500years to the Ming Dynasty(1368 - 1644). Perched atop a 330ft (100m) tall column of rock over 7,600ft (2,336m) above sea level, separated by a crevice that's spanned by a bridge. This jaw-dropping spire is called Red Clouds Golden Summit and sits on a ridge on Mount Fanjing, or Fanjingshan an other worldly Unesco World Heritage Site in China's Wuling mountain range. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/escape/article-9117945/The-incredible-twin-temples-perched-atop-breathtaking-rocky-spire-Chinas-Mount-Fanjing.html

The interior and the Driver's cabin of the maglev train prototype in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, January 13, 2021. With an investment of 60 million yuan ($9.3 million), the HTS maglev project was jointly developed by Southwest Jiaotong University, China Railway Group Limited and CRRC Corporation Limited. The “super bullet” train is designed to have a speed of 620km/h, developed using a linear acceleration system based on high-temperature superconductors (HTSs). If these speeds can be achieved in practice, the train would be the fastest commercial transport vehicle in the world.

China rolled out a maglev train prototype with a designed speed of 620 km/h on Wednesday, which is the world's first vehicle using the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) maglev technology, according to its developers. The domestically developed prototype and a 165-meter maglev test track were unveiled by researchers at Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. At the launch ceremony, the 21-meter-long silver-and-black locomotive was seen floating slowly along the track. Experts hailed it as a "zero to one" breakthrough in the country's development of HTS technology. oz4real83:In our country, the Mayor is my brother from the East, he's my blood from the South/Southwest or he's my Man from the North will not allow us hold them accountable. They've also used poverty and hunger to cuff us, if they come around to share/give 500 to each residents of their communities, the queue under the sun will shock you. Some will even knee and sing praises because of that 500. That's what poverty and hunger can do. |
