Obiagu1:
I'm tired of this. WE DON'T SHARE ANY COMMON ANCESTOR WITH ANYONE.
There's no proof. I can't understand Yoruba neither could I understand Ibibio or Idoma.
A mere similarity of a few words does not equate common ancestory.
We should stop this.
Oh but we do my brother. We have to come to that realization. Instead of focusing on the differences, we need to focus on what unites us.

One of my favorite authors is Cheikh Anta Diop who believed in the cultural unity of Africa.

The Ibibio language is not related to the Igbo language. Ibibio, Ogoni, Efik, Ekoi, Bokyi and the Western Cameroon languages make up the same language family.

We need to do more research in the history like the Europeans and Asians have done.

Just like everyone consider your people backwards and do not add any value to Nigeria besides almajiri and terrorist.

what is there to be igbocentric about? your 'head hunting' tradition?
Read any of our famous author's novel, like the rest of the world and understand why our culture is cherished and respected. Do not derail my thread though.

You Hausa do not belong to our language family

PoliticsRe: Igbos, Yorubas, Nupe, Edo, Idoma All Share A Common Ancestor by EzeUche2(op): 7:46pm On Feb 13, 2011
I know I am not the best person to present this information, since I am Igbocentric, but this has been on my mind for quite a while. And I know many people are probably in denial about this issue as well.

We have a COMMON ANCESTOR. You can trace our languages to one parents language. When did we diverge to form our own distinctive culture and "languages?"
PoliticsIgbos, Yorubas, Nupe, Edo, Idoma All Share A Common Ancestor by EzeUche2(op): 7:34pm On Feb 13, 2011
If we come from a linguistics approach, Yorubas, Igbos, Nupe, Idoma, Edo, Igala and some other groups all share a common ancestors. We just splintered into different groups, with cultures, languages and histories. But no one cannot deny, that there are many similarities amongst our languages.

I would go even far to say that the Fon and Ewe should be included as well, because their language is also similar to our own.

One thing I wonder is why do we focus on the differences even though we share a common ancestor. Do we see the Slavic people acting in such a way, even though they are found in different nations. When I say Slavic people, that includes Bulgarians, Russians, Ukranians, Serbs, Croats etc.

PoliticsRe: Question: Did Sudan Actually Get Indepedence Before Ghana? by EzeUche2(m): 7:18pm On Feb 13, 2011
Maybe they were referring Sudan as an North African nation. Remember that this country supposedly has many "Arabs."
PoliticsRe: Nnpc Raises Hope On Oil In Chad Basin by EzeUche2(m): 5:59pm On Feb 13, 2011
I hope they find oil in that region. That would be a dream come true for many Nigerians, both from the North and South. Let us not forget this is found in Kanuriland and they may tell the Hausa that it is their oil. grin
PoliticsRe: We Igbos Are Falling Into Intellectual Stagnation by EzeUche2(m): 5:39pm On Feb 13, 2011
ShangoThor:

EzeUche, that’s contradictory considering that is exactly what you were doing in a thread a few weeks ago, “washing your dirty laundry in public”, when you were bragging about the Aro’s.

You keep on talking about your educational achievements of your peoples, which you cannot substantiate. It is not about what educational achievements one has, but the application of the knowledge, that is true intelligence.

I like Ikengawo because he is extremely objective, he understands the bigger picture, the interest of Black Africa as a whole is a lot more important than any single ethnic polity. He is more interested in finding solutions to problems as opposed to whingeing

However, where I disagree with Ikengawo is that I have already identified the source of the problem in Nigeria as the puritanist Islamic threat in Northern Nigeria, period. Hence I advocate the secession of Southern Nigeria instead, but I never argue along the lines of ethnic differences because I know the truth. Throughout Nigeria and the Diaspora a lot of ethnicities are intermixed via marriages. This is the real story of ‘human evolution’. Yoruba, Igbo and other minorities live respectfully side by side, and most importantly learn from one another.

Nevertheless, I still respect Ikengawo for his objective views. He never feels the need to degrade other ethnicities to get his point across, and that goes for the ignorant bigots on all sides.

If anybody wants to break away from the FR there are practical things you can do that are deemed acceptable and within the political process, as opposed to coming o public forums to continuously degrade other ethnicities. I hate when people just talk and do not do anything about their beliefs.

NL is an example of what I’m saying. It is a Forum that belongs to a Yoruba man named Seun (I assume) where all types of Nigerians converge to discuss ideas and current affairs amongst other things, and to a greater extent people are allowed freedom of speech to a great degree. All types of Nigerians are accommodated.
Do not try to develop support for the creation of Biafra by disseminating false propaganda. Not all Yoruba were against the creation of Biafra, because Wole Soyinka wasn’t and neither was my father, or myself.

Stick to the issues, if you want to create your own State, you need show you have support for it amongst your own people, check out the history of the IRA and Sinn Feinn. That’s the way to go.
The Aro thread was a historical thread and that thread was create before you even came to Nairaland. Your mentioning of a thread concerning my people is a red herring and does not serve the purpose you are trying to put in other's minds.

The educational achievements of the Ndigbo are highly documented in various threads on Nairaland. Here is a collection of these threads that discuss Igbo achievements in that field with provided sources:

It is always good to back up your statements with sources. Igbos are doing fine in the realm of education. Now I would like to see people deny these facts. Igbos are scientist, engineers, economist, poets, authors etc. And we keep on achieving. It is very sad that an Igbo who has never been to Nigeria to think Igbos are having an intellectual stagnation. That is slap in the face of people like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Chinua Achebe, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala etc.

LEARN TO SEPARATE POLITICS FROM A PEOPLE. That will help you in this world, because for the most part, I do not know if Nigerian politicians represent the people.
PoliticsRe: Court Stops Gov Orji As Pdp Candidate In Abia by EzeUche2(op): 5:26pm On Feb 13, 2011
To all of Nairaland, you can see there is consensus amongst all well meaning Abians, that T.A. Orji is very hated in our state. If he indeed is governor for another term in Abia, you will know it was by foul means. I don't know any Abian who supports him from the Bende zone all the way down to Aba.

PoliticsRe: Oil Rises Above $101.what Do We Do With The Windfall? by EzeUche2(m): 10:18am On Feb 13, 2011
You know we will not have a windfall. It will be looted by our politicians. And none of the fund will be used to benefit the people. Especially the Niger Deltans. Either way, you should not look to oil to solve our problems. It is a curse.
