This is GREAT news! But what about the offshore oil? |
We Igbos are very welcoming. My family welcomed my mother, even though she is Ibibio. And my family is in harmony, because of that fact. Igbos welcome all, and we do not care where you are from. That is why I will always love my people. We are very open-minded, that is why we are able to speak other languages, moreso than any other group. Look at me for example, I speak 4 languages fluently. And I plan on having a couple of wives from different groups. ![]() |
We must get rid of our corrupt politicians from every Nigerian ethnicity. The whole system needs to be overturned and a lot of blood must be shed. Not only the politicians are corrupt, but many of the people are as well. We need a Jerry Rawlings type of revolution. And purges need to be made, before Nigeria can rise. I am talking about a Chinese style purged, like the "Great Leap Forward" or Stalin's purges in Soviet Russia. |
sbeezy8:The Igbo were affected heavily by the Atlantic slave trade. Igbo slaves were known for being rebellious, having a high count of suicide in defiance of slavery. In the United States the Igbo were found the most common in the state of Maryland and Virginia,so much so that some historians have denominated colonial Virginia as “Igbo land.” With a total of 37,000 Africans that arrived in Virginia from Calabar in the 18th century, 30,000 were Igbo according to Douglas B. Chambers. The Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia estimates around 38% of captives taken to Virginia were from the Bight of Biafra. Igbo peoples constituted the majority of enslaved Africans in Maryland. Chambers has been quoted saying "My research suggests that perhaps 60 percent of black Americans have at least one Igbo ancestor, " Sources- Chambers, Douglas B. (March 1, 2005). Murder at Montpelier: Igbo Africans in Virginia. University Press of Mississippi. p. 23. ISBN 1-578-06706-5. |
It looks like she has gained some weight in all the WRONG places. |
The Bight of Biafra was one of the largest source of slaves for the Americas. English colonies focused on slaves from that region, while the Portuguese and Spanish had a lot of Yoruba slaves. There is historical evidence for that. |
sbeezy8:You know the community claiming that his great grandfather is from Rivers is not an Igbo village. And if an African American family is from Virginia or Maryland. Most likely they are descendants of Igbo. T.D. Jakes, Blair Underwood, Danny Glover, Forest Whitaker are all descendants of Igbos. |
I would support a motion that would separate the nation between North & South. However, the Yoruba elite would have to give up their oil blocks in the East. |
Abasi means God in Ibibio and Obasi in Ekoi traditionally. But I think people use the name interchangeably now like Chineke, Chileke etc. |
I actually agree with Kobojunkie on this issue. I really thought we would never agree on any issue |
Gbawe:It is times like this, when I lose all hope for Nigeria. This crosses all tribal lines. We are not even progressing to be truthful. South-East, South-West, North, South-South, Middle Belt etc. The nation is so corrupt, that even the average Nigerian aspires to take advantage of other Nigerians. There is no honor in that. While we constantly argue about tribal differences, don't people realize that our so called leaders are robbing us blind. |
I would support an Igbo-only nation as long as we are not landlocked. That means Port Harcourt and other "coastal" Igbo towns must remain with us. I would even claim Bonny, since the people cannot even speak their supposed "native" tongue anymore, they just speak Bonny Igbo. Igbo communities in in Edo, Benue, Cross River and Delta State must be with us as well. |
And there are Igbos in Sierra Leone. Where do people think the Ibusa dialect of Igbo came from? |
Muki's favorite pastime is banning Igbos. Especially me, she has banned me a good 10 times, but I still see some people like SeFAGo and Bluetooth with their original names. Makes me wonder? Even Ileke-Idi and Alj Harem were given their names back. Unban the first EzeUche moniker! They have sinned far worse than me, but you do not ban their names forever. Remember who drives traffic into this website. You should be thanking me. ![]() |
ChinenyeN:You need to throw this Tower of Babel, where many Igbo dialects are spoken out of your mind. I pray for the day, when we Igbos are united with a common language. This focus on our different dialects, is an enemy of progress. Instead of focusing on these damnn dialects, we need to focus on preventing our language from going extinct, which is more important. |
I support this motion! ![]() |
Nigeria is definitely owned by a kleptocratic oligarchy. |
I like this thread already. Speak the truth my brother. We Igbos can be found all over Nigeria, and we speak the local languages and embrace the cultures of other, because we see people as human beings. The South-West is by no means, the economic powerhouse of Nigeria. Nigeria relies on Eastern oil for its foreign earnings. The rest of the economy is in shatters. Why do you think people say Nigeria suffers from Dutch Diseas aka Resource Curse. |
excanny:Who cares? It is called being realistic and it puts things in perspective. That is what is happening is it not? Igbos are spreading in all directions, because our region is densely populated. For the survival of the Igbo race, we must spread out in all directions. I have always believed that. And the old days, clans that had excess populations, would send settlers to other people's land. That is how my hometown was founded after my ancestorsforced the Ibibios off their land. |
We Igbos are settlers. When our populations grow too much for our region to handle, we expand. This is how the world works in general. Expansion is as old as civilization itself. People need to stop complaining and get over it. As long as my people keep on producing large amounts of people, we will continue to "invade" other people's land. |
Jenifa_ do not mind the buffoons. You handled yourself well. Sometimes it is better not to feed the animals. |
namfav:namfav the aboki/almajiri from Northern Nigeria. |
presido1:Wonderful post concerning the topic. Very well thought out response. |
Igbo language and its many dialects are beautiful, but I see a day, when many of our dialects will go extinct. This is bound to happen, so we better start recording the endangered dialects, before it is too late. However, I welcome that day, because the Igbo people will be united in our language that is spoken by everyone.. |
Benin was truly great in the past. A truly authentic African empire. |
Darn these Yorubas. No wonder the Bini people wanted the Mid-West region to be created out of fear of Yoruba domination. ![]() |
eku_bear:There is a sort of Pan-Slavism though. Why do you think World War I occurred? Russia felt their Slavic brothers in the Balkans needed help against the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Ukraine and Russia's beef should not even exist, because they are basically the same people, in which the Rus (Russian homeland) is found in Ukraine. Kiev to be more exact. But there is a Pan-Slav identity though. Not much in Poland though, due to fear of their bigger Slavic neighbor, the Russians. Maybe this is due to religious beliefs, because the Russians and the Christian communities in the Balkans follow mostly the Eastern Orthodox, while the Poles are Roman Catholic. |
namfav:Shut up you desert rat. Go back to your God forsaken land you Arab worshiper. Not even fit to be called an AFRICAN |
This man should be compensated for his troubles. |
In a civilized society, this man would have been in prison as well and his ill gotten wealth would have been liquidated. Nigeria is definitely not a civilized society. |
;d ;d ;d |
eku_bear:Well Canada, U.K. New Zealand, and Australia all have the same Head of State and that is the Queen of England, so they are united in a sense. The U.S. has a vastly different history, because they fought for their freedom. Anyway, if my people was divided, I would want to be reunited with them in one nation. This is actually normal for a people. Germany did prior to the outbreak of WWII, in which the German people wanted to be reunited with their kin in Austria and Poland. |
