Education / Re: 2024 UTME: Tsavkegh Ishughun Scored 356 In JAMB by Fab21: 11:15am On May 03
immortalcrown:
Congratulations, Doo Kwase!

Benue has intelligent children.

English language almost pulled her down. Imagine scoring over 90% in each of the 3 more-technical subjects (Physics, Maths and Chemistry) and scoring around 70% in English Language.

There is a serious problem with the English language in Africa. We can't kill ourselves since English is not our mother tongue. I myself make a lot of grammatical mistakes when speaking or writing English. I just do my best and leave the rest to the masters of the language. But many of our teachers contribute to the problem.

I saw a post https://www.nairaland.com/8057154/english-gurus-pls-what-answer yesterday on the front page. The post is presented as a challenge to "English gurus". Many commenters tried to answer the question in the post. The first comment had gotten over 400 likes by the time I saw the post. Guess what? The sentence presented as the challenge is grammatically incorrect. But people, instead of pointing out the error, considered the sentence correct and have been trying to explain its meaning. That was when I realized that the English problem is bigger than I thought.

You may ask what is the error in the sentence in the attached image? Let me answer the question. When two nouns that share the same pronoun are needed in one sentence and one of them is to be repeated in the sentence, the pronoun is dropped. I mean, the pronoun is not used. But when the two nouns are to be repeated in the sentence, one must be maintained and the other is either replaced with the pronoun or maintained as well. See examples below.

When two nouns with the same pronoun appear in one sentence and only one of the nouns is repeated:
"Mary slapped Joy and Joy cried."

When the two nouns are repeatedly used in the same sentence:
"Mary and Joy ended their friendship because Joy betrayed Mary."
"Mary and Joy ended their friendship because Joy betrayed her."

In this second sentence, it is clear that "her" represents Mary since betrayal as an action is performed by Joy. If you replace "her" with "herself", herself will clearly represent Joy, meaning that Joy betrayed herself, not Mary. "Mary and Joy ended their friendship because Joy betrayed herself."

It is when two nouns used repeatedly in one sentence do not share the same pronoun that you should replace each noun with its pronoun during the second appearance of each noun in the sentence. Example: "Peter and Joy ended their friendship because she betrayed him."

The sentence in the image is ambiguous. "she" could be the mother or the daughter. So, saying that the mother was drunk is correct, and saying that the daughter was drunk is aslo correct. The correct forms of the sentence are:
1.
"A mother slapped her daughter because the daughter was drunk."

2.
"A mother slapped her daughter because the mother was drunk."

Thanks for this!

The question is ambiguous.

However, English Language is complex.

An English Language rule that's correct today might not be correct tomorrow..

So complex

Thankgodiyke:
I used to hear of scam through fake alert I have never experienced it before until three days ago when this young looking couple came to my wife's shop to buy things. I usually go to pick my wife from shop when I close from my own business. On that fateful day around 8.pm her Gen went off as fuel got exhausted and so is the CCTV camera so their faces were not captured she was actually balancing her account and arranging to close for the day whey they came appearing all friendly and chatty and they picked some items everything amounted to 12k and they requested for Cash of 10k totaling 22k. They requested for account no and my wife called out her monie point account and the lady said she can't find monie point and requested for another bank account and my wife called out her GTB account she called the account name and said it was successful and flash the screen to my wife's face. My wife said they will have to wait for confirmation she logged in through her app and couldn't see anything. Meanwhile the guy was coughing seriously and the lady started complaining that her baby is crying in the car and ask to drop her phone no. After some time
I asked my wife to let them go out of my good heart and concern for the baby in the car that it could be network problem that is causing the delay after getting their contact. We got home I asked my wife to check she said nothing is in her account my wife decided to Dial that number surprising her Truecaller app brought out her name as 'Onye ohi Rice' meaning Rice thief that was when it dawn on us that we have been scammed. Since that day we have tried plenty times to call and chat the num on Whatsapp but no response. This is the number 08105384984 registered as Ifeanyi Nwakaibeya. I have refunded my wife the money though but I'm really sad that such young people go about stealing from people. Nairalanders I know it's a small change but I wish I can get this guy and lady and deal with them.

initially didn't want to post, but going through some comments; It's so disheartening that some people still have the audacity to praise the creativity of a criminal.

What you called small change isn't even small change for some people.

It's so sad that you're duped at the detriment of your genuiety and your kind heart.

Sir, the society is toxic and polluted. Hence, one need to be very careful.

Sometimes when these scammers or fraudsters are being caught and jungle justice is done on them, it's the same people that will be pleading that it's just a small items they stole.

A thief is always a thief no matter the quantity of the items or money stolen. It shouldn't be encouraged in our society.

So sorry to hear about this.
God will bless you in other ways.

I don't know why Nigerian govt just like making some extraneous policies to FRUSTRATE Nigerians.

Last year, it's Currency Redesign. The funniest thing was that so many Nigerians supported that useless policy until it later result to chaos and serious hardship.

Most of these govt policies don't usually favour Nigerians. Honestly, we're not ready yet...

As regards this BVN/NIN linkage. It shouldn't be stressful.

Create an online portal. Let everyone input their NIN.. And for those that could have irregularities on their BVN/NIN, create an online portal for modification (DOB, names arrangement, gender and the likes) where individual can have access to.

And as regards DOB modification, it should be done once because you can't be born twice.. if there's any exception, then such individual can write a letter as regards that.

Is Access Bank not aware of this BVN/NIN linkage? Seems they're not concern! I've not received mail from them.

. Eco, UBA, Opay has sent mail.
Business / Re: BVN, NIN Requirement: CBN Keeps Mum As Deadline Expires by Fab21: 8:35am On Mar 03
Honestly, we're not there yet.

I don't think we're ready for this.

Voter's card
Driver's license
Passport
NIN
BVN

Since the govt want NIN to be connected to bank accounts, I think BVN/NIN should be harmonized in such a way that you don't need to stress yourself at the bank replicating your data on different IDs.

For instance, there are some people that their BVN/NIN info don't tally; there are discrepancies.

I think once such person has done modification either on BVN/NIN, there should be way to request from the person if he/she wanted to synchronize his/her info based on the modification.. It's as simple as that.

Is it possible to do a fresh registration if ones NIN was generated through BVN
Nairaland / General / Re: Help! Please! Bvn-generated NIN Problems. by Fab21: 8:55pm On Feb 08
joviegghead:
Let me start with this:
A BVN-generated NIN , i think, usually applies to early owners of BVN. If your BVN starts with 221... Or 2221 or 2222 just know you have an NIN waiting for you, you might not even know, just like when I went to register and was given an NIN and started facing this problem.

Now my problem:

So in 2018 I tried registering at an NIMC center in Lagos where I stay. Surprisingly, I and some people were told to back to our banks to correct our details, as what we submitted on the NIN registration form was different from what they saw as our BVN details. Also, I was surprised that I had NIN. Sadly, that day was the day I had prepared cuz I practically had no time.

Fast forward to this year, I had done every necessary correction on my BVN(affidavit, newspaper publication, bla bla inclusive). I went to the NIMC center fairly around where I serve(NYSC). I saw this as an advantage, since this northern states are practically uncrowded like Lagos . I mean you can literally stroll in and out with ease to do you NIN registration.
I got there first, but the man told me my BVN details didn't match my NIN details submitted. I told I had done the necessary changes. I even showed him necessary documents (I brought them along in case of any rubbish). He told me I had to generate remitta and pay #15000 and #500 for correction of Date of birth and Change of name. I was confused and I doubt that man what he was saying(he wasn't even sure too).

For Christ sake, I haven't registered for this thing AT ALL not to talk of having National ID or slip. Those that I know that pay for such are those who have registered and are trying to correct certain things on their slip

Weakly, I got up and left. I'm still confused on what to do. I'll appreciate if anyone with a similar experience share how they got round this problem.

This thing is holding me from many opportunities. Help please!!!

How did you go about it

I'm very sure so many people that their NIN were general through BVN will definitely face that issue.

I don't really know if they can make the mistake from date of birth but for names.

Not because people don't filled out their names properly during BVN but what I noticed was that, some bank staffs just picked Surname and first name alone; in order to make their own work faster.

For instance during account opening before BVN came on board. Let say account was opened with Surname- Obanimi First name - Omodara middle name -Omolewa.

Now when the BVN came, some of the staffs were just picking Obanimi Omodara and ignored the middle names, even when you filled them out properly on the form.

Now, for the fact that if your NIN was generated via BVN, only that two names will be captured.

For all to now work out smoothly,
1. there is need for proper capturing of all the names on the NIN
2. It has to be corrected according on the BVN to include the 3rd name as well.

Then all will be linked together and work smoothly when all tally.

For the Agent that charged you 120k for modification of date of birth. That's serious exploitation.

Find your way to local government by yourself for capturing and modification. They know what to do once you explain date of birth.

Official charges for date of birth on NIN is 15k, that one self is somehow painful.

I've been thinking that instead of paying 120k for DOB modification which I can't even afford, I won't mind doing the registration afresh if it's possible....

However, thanks for taking your time to explain in details..

Go to all Local Government across Nigeria currently, the situation is the same. Go out and verify the claim.

This ugly situation is not at the local government quoted by the op alone.

The heat of NIN registration at the moment is so disturbing.

Those that are not feeling the heat are those who have gotten their NIN done "APPROPRIATELY" before now. YES.

Why the heat and the pressure?

1. Federal Government has set April 2024 for all active bank accounts to be linked with both BVN and NIN, even those Opay and all that are not left out.

2. Telecommunications companies like MTN are already blocking lines that are not linked at all or properly linked with NIN.

3. If you're just about to open bank account, the only valid ID now is NIN. Go and confirm.

4. If you've done the NIN before but your full names are not captured like mine that was generated through BVN back then, you will still feel the heat now because your bank account is still active until April deadline that you must have linked your NIN and you won't be able because the BVN names and NIN will not be tally, you have to go for NIN for proper capturing and modifications and then go to bank to link up appropriately then; you're good to go. What if mistake is on your date of birth on the NIN, sorry.

5. Couple with massive students that want to register for either waec or Jamb where NIN is compulsory for registration.

For Ado Odo Ota Local Government in Ogun State that I visited. Imagine only TWO (2) COMPUTERS are available to attend to such big local government.

So, in all these scenarios, avenue has been open for big time exploitations.

It wasn't this tough when you can walk to those private business center and register your NIN but now Government have shut those ones out without given enough resources to those at local government to work with.

Those at local government need more hands in terms of human resources.

More Computers.

Some of the Local Government don't even have electricity supplies just like we are seeing across the Country, they are running on generators with bad network which also make their work to be more difficult.

For government to reduce the pressure on the local government, they should give them more capable hands and resources to work with.

While they should also speed up the process of engaging those private businesses like we use to have them or else.
..

Honestly, this has been giving me sleepless night.

My DOB and names on NIN doesn't tally with my BVN.

My NIN was generated through BVN then ...

I've corrected the BVN..

I was asking one Nimc Agent as regards the modification for the DOB the person told me that it will cost me 120k.. shocked

I'm thinking if it's possible to do another NIN since it's generated through BVN.

Just so you may want to know.

We are private Enterprise with the license and approval of NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION MANAGEMENT COMMISSION (NIMC) of Nigeria.

We help in
NIN MODIFICATION
NIN VALIDATION
Lost Nin
Retrieval
Or any NIN related issues we'll help you resolve it for a little fee.

Difference between modification and validation

Modification means that you want to change or edit your

Name
Date of birth
Gender
State of origin
On your NIN

NIN cannot be done twice except for minors (children) and for adults on rare cases.

For adults, you can do your NIN twice if it's BVN GENERATED.

We do our job, you just have to refer us.

Sometimes, banks create NIN with a bvn for you.

Some common bank that does this are first and zenith

These NIN generated with bvn cannot be used for sim retrieval but would be successful for bank use.
In any case, it's necessary.
So have to modify it.

Validation on the other hand means that your account is not on nimc server.

Sometimes, you have your *NIN* slip with your NIN number but when you go to bank and want to use it, the banker tells you _no record found_ or _update record_ or _v-nin_ _validation_ .

All are common.

It simply means your details are not on NIN server and will have to be sent to Abuja to be validated(inserted) in *NIMC* seever.

Validation takes 80hrs
To get a feedback

Modification takes more depending on your money
