The Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd) has been abducted. Ekong was said to have been picked up Friday midnight by soldiers allegedly sent by the GOC of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Sarham purportedly on a petition written by Senator Akpabio. The Commissioner for Information, Akwa Ibom State, Charles Udoh who confirmed the abduction said Capt. Ekong was picked last night to an unknown location in Port Harcourt. The commissioner said that they were yet to establish contact with his abductors. “The Chief of Army Staff has said that the Military had no role to play in the elections. When did it become the duty of the Army to investigate petitions, arrest and detain people?” he queried. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Odiko McDon said the police was yet to receive such information. He, however, promised to make necessary contacts and swing into investigations. Meanwhile, election materials have arrived a few polling units in Uyo, the state capital as INEC staff were seen waiting for 8 am to commence accreditation of voters. http://kikiotolu.com/breaking-gov-emmanuels-ssa-on-security-matters-capt-ekong-allegedly-abducted/ |
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday dismissed the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party that it was hoarding some electoral materials. It was earlier reported that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, had accused the Commission of withholding sensitive electoral materials, including collation (form EC8D) and result (form EC8E) sheets in states considered to be PDP strongholds. The party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Friday said that intelligence at PDP’s disposal showed that certain compromised INEC officials were working with agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to hold back the materials to rig results for ÀPC on Sunday in the affected states. But reacting, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, said the Commission would never deliberately hoard election materials or engage in any act intended at favouring any political party or candidate. Oyekanmi said that in the last one week, INEC had mobilised all national assets to deliver various election materials, day and night, to various parts of the country. “While the Commission has experienced a few challenges in the process, which is normal with the logistical operation of this magnitude, we have largely overcome these challenges. “The Chairman of INEC, (Mahmood) Yakubu, has been briefing the nation daily since last Monday on the progress made. “I think that every well-meaning Nigerian will agree that INEC needs all the support it can get to organise a successful general election starting from tomorrow, Feb. 23. “We want to assure Nigerians who have shown a lot of support and understanding, especially in the last one difficult week, that the Commission will never deliberately hoard election materials or engage in any act intended to favour any political party or candidate,” Oyekanmi said. He urged Nigerians to feel free to vote for any political party or candidate of their choice while assuring them that their votes would count. http://kikiotolu.com/nigeria-decides-inec-speaks-on-hoarding-result-sheets-ahead-of-polls/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove

Pandemonium ensued at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) in Calabar, the Cross River State capital as thousands of serving and ex-National Youths Service Corps members and students who were shortlisted as ad-hoc for the postponed Presidential and National Assembly elections protested the removal of their names. Thousands of people who were initially shortlisted as INEC ad-hoc staff have been told to go home as their services were no longer required for the rescheduled elections without any reason. Names of new people who didn’t participate in the INEC training for Presiding Officers were allegedly inserted to replace the protesting corps members and students. A victim who gave his name as Gabriel Offor said, unlike last week where INEC published names of the ad-hoc staff on Thursday ahead of movement on Friday, names of the shortlisted people to conduct the February 23rd elections were published this morning, (Friday). “Hundreds of people who were shortlisted previously stormed the INEC office, located along the Murtala Mohammed Highway, opposite Pyramid to verify their names only to find out that they have been replaced with different people,” he said. The protest which was turning violent saw police using teargas to disperse the protesters started when the shortlisted ad-hoc staff were asked to board the buses provided by INEC to convey them to their respective places of assignments. The protesters who had gathered at the headquarters since morning hoping that their names would be published blocked the vehicles and entrance to the Commission’s office vowing that they won’t leave until their names are shortlisted or compensated for the stress they passed through last weekend. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo said that the protesters were those INEC did not engage and they attempted to disrupt activities at the INEC headquarters. She denied that Police shot or teargas anybody, insisting that only minimal force was used to stop the people from disrupting work at INEC. “There was no shooting and no teargassing of anybody. These are people INEC has not engaged and they refused to leave the premises,” she said. http://kikiotolu.com/corps-members-other-ad-hoc-staff-protest-replacement-by-inec-in-cross-river/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove

Alex Badeh killers have revealed how they plotted the death of the ex-Chief of Defence Staff, Abuja-Keffi Expressway. Badeh was assassinated on December 18, 2018, along Abuja-Keffi Expressway by some gunmen on the way from his farm. Badeh’s driver was also shot and his friend, who was also in the vehicle, was kidnapped by the gang. One of the five suspected killers of the ex-Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh, has revealed his role in the murder. The suspect, 25-year-old Shuaibu Rabi, a native of Bade area of Kaduna State, said he got N25,000 out of the money they stole from the late Badeh’s car. Detectives from the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have revealed that the killers of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice-Marshal Alex Badeh, used a Dane gun. The arrested suspects had confessed to killing the retired military officer in order to dispossess him of money he supposedly wanted to use to buy farmland in the Panda area of Nasarawa State. Rabi, Yahaha, Maube, Aliyu Usman, aka Ciroma, and Ibrahim Abdulahi have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, in relation to the crime. Confessing on how they planned the attack on Alex Badeh, Ciroma said: “There was a day I went to meet a man called Maube, who lives in Kare, close to Panda area of Nasarawa State. He told me that there was a rich man who had a farm in his area and he would need some boys to rob the man. “I contacted one Shuiabu who I met in Gitata Market and told him about the plan and he got interested and brought in his brother, Yahaya. “I took their numbers, and three days later, Maube called me and said that the rich man was in his farm on that day, saying that I should call my boys. I called Shuiabu and told him that the man was on ground and Shuiabu brought two persons: Yahaya and Baso. “They met me at Gitata and Maube called me and said that the rich man had left the farm and was driving through Panda Road. Maube took a motorcycle and followed the rich man behind while I and six others, namely Alhaji Lamido, Galma, Rabo, Shuiabu, Yahaya and Baso, waited for the man at Zomgo area of the state, close to Buratai’s farm. “Then Abdulahi, who was carrying Alhaji Maube on his bike, brought two guns to us and pointed the vehicle to us, and we came outside and waylaid it. “We had four Ak-47 rifles in that operation. I brought two Ak-47 rifles and a single-barrel Dane gun. I got one of the Ak-47 rifles from a friend known as Rontumi and another from Rugumi. The Dane gun belongs to me, and we entered the road and blocked the man’s convoy. I don’t know who among us fired the shot that killed him because three persons fired. “I went to the man’s car, opened it and found money in it. I gave the money to Ibrahim Abdulahi and asked him to give the money to Maube. It was the next day that we knew that the person we killed was a four-star general. I don’t know the amount that was in that bag because it was with Maube.” Source: https://lailasnews.com/alex-badeh-how-killers-plotted-death/

Forrmer Chelsea and England defender Ashley Cole scored his first ever goal in the FA Cup but it was not enough for Championship side Derby County as they were beaten 2-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion in the fifth round on Saturday. Substitute Cole, who had not scored in English football since 2012, struck late on after Premier League Brighton had moved in to a two-goal lead thanks to first-half goals by Anthony Knockaert and Juergen Locadia. Watch the stunning goal below; After the game, Frank Lampard described Ashley Cole as a “machine”, and said they will need the defender for their Championship promotion push. He said; “He has been working hard. He wasn’t quite ready for 90 minutes today but that’s a great exercise he has given 45 minutes. I thought he was calm and assured on the ball. He has all the experience from his career and got his goal. It’s really good for us and we will need him.” Source: https://lailasnews.com/ashley-cole-scores-first-fa-cup-goal/
