@pozman, u are very wrong my dear. D same thing happened to me this year when I had my baby, my blood count was so low dat I was told by my GN/OB dat I will need a blood transfusion to be able to give birth safely.
My pregnancy was past due date so a week after I settled for an induction which lasted 25hrs fully dilated but baby was not forthcoming, my MW (midwife) gave me a second degree cut to deliver my baby through her finger being inserted into my vg to raise my baby's head from butt to d VG canal.
During my 25hrs labor, a consent note was brought to me to sign for blood transfusion and this I quickly signed sharply because I didn't want to die with baby. Fortunately or unfortunately a chief hematologist advised d medical team not to transfuse me until I deliver, so by d time I delivered d following morning my blood count already dropped to 75 from 96 count.
My testimony now is dat after safe delivery I rejected to be transfused thinking I already made it through so I can survive on my own, here is my bitter experience! Each day I spent in d hospital after delivery, my blood count is getting less and less and I kept on hoping for miracle by d third day I was due for a discharge but d Doc refused to let me go, saying dat I need to either take blood or keep staying in d hospital for monitoring.
She said dat it's against d ethics of her profession, by d 5th day I was down to 54 blood count. For ur information d normal blood count of a sound body should be 125 but mine was 109 due to my Genotype hemoglobin SC which is equally categorized as Sickle Cell patient with a longer life expectancy than SS patients but same episode of pains and symptoms.
I gave birth in North America where medical issues are taken seriously, after so much threats from me, a MALE Doc discharged me at my own risk. I was allowed to go home Saturday but with a promise to come for a check up on Mon. By Mon morning I was already loosing my memory due to serious lack of blood.
I saw myself in a life size mirror and started crying because I was virtually very pale and all white with no traces of blood in my body, I rushed to d hospital where I was initially oferred a transfusion and after a Scan was conducted on me it was discovered dat my Spleen and Liver had swollen so much dat it draining d remaining blood, to cut d long story short I was given a blood transfusion after couple of hrs of waiting for thorough screening. D Doc again suggested 4 pints of blood but I declined and took only 2 pints which is 10 blood counts each.
Invariably I was given 2 pints= 20 counts plus 52 dats 72 which is still considered very low for a just delivered Mum, well ! I was okay until I started loosing d blood badly couple of days after due to infection on my VG stitches.
D long story short, I spent another 2 wks in d hospital on intravenous anti- biotics. But today I am alive enjoying motherhood.
Lesson learnt! I will never decline on any medical suggestions dat can better my life, I would have equally died of ignorance due to religion and personal perspective. I wish every mother in this situation a long life. We shall eat d fruit of our labours. 6 months now I still dey carry go, Baba God I thank thee.

Well! My own US embassy experience was quite funny, it was in year 2001. I wanted to travel with my big bro, my visa was denied and my birth certificate seized because they concluded I wasn't going to return if I go. I tried 4 more tyms within 2 yrs making all 5 times all together. Since then I just fashi them and I tried Canada visa once and it was granted. My mistake then now dawned on me that I was too anxious and fidgeting like my whole world depend on it. But anyways I have been in and out of Canada and I realized no big deal about these western countries but if u have never travelled before it can be a serious aspiration though. My little advice ! Pls do not attempt to travel to d US or any other developed countries if u do not have anybody to help u with initial accomodation and stuff. If not nah one chance be dat.

curious city! forget d fact dat i'm a student buh i meet citizens everyday here and i know wat's up no problem. u seem like someone dat will understand a bit of wats going on abroad but remember i was very independent even from back home, also so can make little change after skool buh BILLS WILL SUCK IT UP FROM U AT D END OF D MONTH. pls PEEPS dont always think life is better in some places than others evry place have their own pros and cons..............

Hynmmmmmmm! after reading all the correspondent posts so far, here is my advice for all our youth back home, before i write anything i will like to aknowledge some ppl dat will get back @ me for posting dis simple truth. buh d truth still needs to be told anyways, There is no where like home HONESTLY! here i am in Hamilton Ontario Canada, i am a student here and i have couple of naija folks here too ranging from young to adults.
No big deal about abroad to be very factual ppl come back home to tell us different stories which is far different from what i saw when i got here. There is serious suffer head here despite d fact dat there are all those facilities Tonnytox talked about but yet we pay handsomely to enjoy them all, what is d essence of good facilities without money in d pocket moreso who are those lying to u ppl dat free medical for everybody dat are citizens here BLANTANT LIE ppl here just get part of it paid by the government but d biggest part of it is paid by d invalid himself.
Alot of lies ppl come back to tell us but my advice here is seeing is believing because there are lots of things to talk about buh i have no tym to type for long. EAST OR WEST HOME IS D BEST .we dont always understand dis until we see for ourselves,PEOPLE ALWAYS BELIEVE GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE INSTEAD OF WETTING THE GRASS THEY ARE STANDING ON.

dear guy! okija_juju here is my advice for u , neva tell any nigerian youth bout ur xperience in canada because u will automatically turn thier mortal enemy. i"m currently in canada studying at mohawk college in HAMILTON ONTARIO AT PRESENT  after many yrs of waiting for visa i was succesful in securing  it for my P G D in d above named skool paying 6000 dollars for just a semester dats over a million naira, infact a million and fifty thousand naira to b precise ticket is 418000 naira return paying accomodation in hamilton is atleast 500 dollars per month books is not inclusive. to cut d long story short i have spent like 2.5 million while d second semester has not been paid.why im saying all dese is because i want some peeps out there to learn from us dat have gone.Anyways no big deal abroad my strong advice is dat dont go if u dont have any tangible thing u wanna go do there,a lot of naija are here in Hamilton hiding not wanting to come back home since there is no dignifying job for them there xept factory jobs.
i know dat some ppl will want to cruxify me oo buh i dont care since truth is very bitter. i came to d country after a semester not wanting to go back self because things are pretty difficult there couple wif d fact dat their tax is too high  things are far more easier to get here than here as a mata of fact i can boldly say dat naija is d easiest way to make money all over d world since there is no strict law in naija.well little is enough for d wise, here i rest my case.
