Obio4real: The presidency has reacted to the current campaign to end the activities of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Grassroot Reporters reports.
An aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, reacting to the renewed campaign, said the campaign is "coordinated attack by cyber criminals" who are joined by unsuspecting citizens.
She said that this not the first time such attack is being launched on government institution, calling on Nigerians to stand by institutions while working on its effectiveness.
She wrote on her Twitter handle:
"I have no doubt that there are some staff of SARS who are unprofessional in their dealings with the public, same way we have unprofessionalism in the Army, Mainstream Police, Customs, Civil Service, Public Service, traders, lawyers, doctors, journalists, teachers, pastors etc.
" But what is going on now, is a COORDINATED ATTACK BY CYBER CRIMINALS joined by UNSUSPECTING INNOCENT CITIZENS.
"This not the first time. We must stand by our national institutions while working to improve their effectiveness. That's what patriotism is about. NO SENTIMENTS." She said

Culture › The Little-known Story Of The Transgender Royal Of A Nigerian Empire In 1540 by factoryreset2(op): 7:57am On Sep 25, 2020 |
The little-known story of the transgender royal of a Nigerian empire who ruled in 1540 Alaafin Orompotoniyun of the Oyo Empire of modern-day Nigeria has been described as the first person on earth to perform a successful transgender operation on herself within 7 days. Orompotoniyun did this in 1540, over 400 years before the white man could even venture into that. Referred to as the first female king of Oyo Empire, Orompotoniyun had to do this to secure the rightful place on the throne after her father’s death, as a woman was never allowed to become an Alaafin (supreme overlord) to rule over men. Her late father, Alaafin Ofinran was then living in a strange land, called Bariba. He and his people decided to return to Oyo after his father, Alaafin Onigbogi passed away. Ofinran began the journey with his daughter, Orompotoniyun, and his sons, Ajiboyede and Eguguoju. When Ofinran died, Prince Eguguoju became the Alaafin. They settled in Oyo-Igboho, where Alaafin Ofinran was buried. Prince Eguguoju, however, passed away. With his demise, the next to take over the throne was Prince Ajiboyede but he was too young to become a king. Prince Tella, who was also born on the way to Oyo, was just a toddler so he was not considered. Princess Orompotoniyun was the only link to the Alaafin dynasty, but since it was forbidden for a woman to rule the empire, the chiefs and elders started making plots on how to install themselves as kings. The strong-willed Orompotoniyun was, however, not going to let that happen. Ready to defend her family rights that were divinely ordained, she summoned the chiefs and asked them to start preparing for her coronation but they refused, saying that a female could never become king. Orompotoniyun, still determined, told them that she was ready to prove to that she was a man and not a woman. Thinking they could ridicule her, the chiefs agreed, on the condition that she stark herself naked at the palace in 7 days. Before that meeting, Orompotoniyun started wearing male clothing. On the said day of the meeting, which the whole Yorubaland were looking forward to, Orompotoniyun mounted the podium and first of all removed her cap to show her barbed hair. She also showed off her chest, but the council of chiefs were still not pleased. She finally removed her trousers to the shock of many, as according to accounts, they not only saw a penis, they also saw a scrotum sack drooping with two scrotum eggs in the sack. At once, everyone dropped on their chest in prostration and she got enthroned as Alaafin Orompotoniyun. Orompotoniyun came to be popularly known as Ajiun, the custodian of the vagina that kills evil plots. Orompotoniyun ruled with so much success and won many wars and kept Igboho very safe and secured. The king built a wall around Igboho which can still be seen now. Travel › Re: Pictures Of Port Harcourt International Airport by factoryreset2: 7:26am On Sep 12, 2020 |
iamakbar: For travelers through the Port Harcourt International Airport, it is a whole new experience as they get to experience the airport like never before, all thanks to the collaborative efforts of FAAN, China Civil Engineering and, Spacefinish.
In 2019, FAAN consulted Spacefinish, a Nigerian design company to help design and fit-out both the new Port Harcourt and the Lagos international airports as part of its effort to redefine the experience of travelers passing through its international airports across the country. Spacefinish is known for the design of some of the continent’s most iconic workspaces like the first ever Google Developer Space in Africa, PwC Experience Centre, Andela’s Epic Tower amongst others.
According to the design team, “some of the questions posed at the beginning of the project is how do we tell rich stories of Port Harcourt and River state and how do we leave a lasting impression on the minds of travelers?”
"Port Harcourt is a beautiful city that has had its share of negative media attention. So we thought of ways to bring together different iconic parts of the city to create a unifying theme of the Garden City which Port Harcourt has always been called.” In the mural, you’ll see the Mile One market with its colorful umbrellas, the people of Port Harcourt with their resplendent attires, and the greenery of the land, all reemphasizing Port Harcourt as the Garden City.
Opposite the Garden City mural is the Fish-Woman - a celebration of the rich and diverse cultures of Rivers State. Rivers State has over 10 ethnic groups that have co-existed peacefully for centuries, sharing a common interest in fishing as a favorite pastime. This mural at the Departure Lounge pays homage to this inherent reality.
The Floating Fisherman, one of Nigeria’s largest art installations ever, overlooks the executive lounge of the airport. The art installation is suspended 20ft in the air featuring over 700 canoe paddles, 3 lifesize boats, a 9ft fisherman casting a fishing net the size of a volleyball court, and a school of fishes swimming with a 20ft silver shark. The installation mirrors real sea life and it is an allusion to a favorite pastime of Riverians which is fishing.
The Towering Boat is an exaggerated life-sized boat that celebrates a lifestyle predominant in Rivers State. The boat also serves as a thoroughfare in the Departure terminal of the airport, and also a temporary seating area with movable furniture provided around its perimeter.
Airports are sometimes the first and last points of contact for travelers and Spacefinish has ensured that travelers through the Port Harcourt airport have something of the city to take along as with them as they travel. The design company is also currently working on the Lagos International Airport and is expected to deliver yet another masterpiece project very soon. Nice. |
