Family › Re: What Factors Should A Family Consider When Hiring A Househelp? by FADEO: 1:25pm On Apr 22, 2015 |
very nice ifyalways: Salary. . . Regardless of the working condition(living in or coming in daily), the salary should be at least 20,000 ngn. Pay them as and when due. Don't deduct money from their salary when they spoil things in the house eg plate.Accidents happen !.
Age. . .minimum of 18 years
Family background. . .Take your time, go and meet the family wherever they stay. Ask people around questions about the family, investigate.
Previous work experience. . .Ask, verify, meet with previous employer and ask questions.
Pictures. . .Take full lenght pictures of your help in various angles, store them in your phone, mailbox and keep har copies.
Security . . .be security conscious. Depends on where u stay, leave FIRM instructions that the help cant and should not step out of the house with your kids without your prior instruction.
Be fair and kind. . .Treat your help as you would treat your OWN child. Don't hoard food from them(they will get even by starving your kids), dont be mean to them, correct them in love, don't use them as slaves. Give them freedom but watch them closely. Give them days off.
Go further. . .show interest in their personal life, goals. Ask them what they want to do in future, encourage them and help if you can. Depending on their age, ask about their relationship, invite and know their partner.
Occasional treats . . .Buying them a gift(no matter how cheap) on their birthdays, taking him or her to a salon for a makeover/hairdo/facials occasionally won't hurt you. Such little favours and acts of love that don't cost much goes a long wayyyyyyy.
Can't deal? Say goodbye. . .If for whatever reason you don't get along, like your help, think your help is a witch/wizard, please pay him or her off and let her/him go. |

Guy, relax on this issue, if you need information ask and you will be told. even if some agents are bad, you cant say all are bad and crooked.... I have related to very good agents and sincere too. For me get me a good car for the price agreed and shikenaah. the problem with people like you is that you want to by a 2010 acura mdx for 1.5M... thats greedy and that why you fall for the tout and deal with crooked and corrupt lebanese that use your vulnerability to tell you things you wanna hear and then you believe and get a flooded or accidented car or a stolen car. it does not hurt to ask but its stupid of you to go to the internet and copy bush path used by rice and turkey smuggler as cotonou road and you still had the guts to put picture in your topic. Thats why it sounds to me that you truely need spiritual healing. fanex: the quest to dig out the truth continues...

Bros I love your response to this guys stupidity. when I saw the topic I thought I will see real picture only to find bush part for rice and turkey smugglers. When I wanted to get my car 3 years ago. My brother offered to go to cotonou and i followed him. He knows about car purchase in cotonou. It was so hectic till i told him not to try this work again. he should leave it for the experts and save himself the stress becos u want to save money. secondly we drove the car through good smooth road till we got to our home in ota. we did correct and legit custom paper. So i dont know if na the thing wey you smoke yesterday when i see you dey affect you at the moment. If you lack knowledge about a thing, simply ask. and dont deal with crooks that pass through bush. if you see the wroth of custom, you life will never remain the same. cheers saintjoel: It saddens me when people like you come online just because subscription is now cheap and it has given demented souls like your's a chance to rant about things they don't know. Going through your profile shows that you must be living a sad and miserable life, always antagonising people over issues only you can explain.
I'll treat your case and also use your points as reference.
1."When a Nigerian agent said to me that he will charge me N25,000 for his services to get a car and duty to paid to my door step. I wondered what the catch was. these guy are not FRIENDS."
If any agent charged you N25,000 for his/her services,it means it's a service charge and I believe you shouldn't have issues with it,which one would you've preferred, the agent taking you into Cotonou to fleece you or having a guide and ending up with a good bargain and you compensate him/her.
2. "IN THE PARK - they add their own ontop of the cost price. 200k and above depending on the car price".
In all my years as an agent,if we make 200K per purchase, many of us will be multi - millionaires by now, what stops you from bargaining yourself and walking off if it doesn't pay you, your agent is just there to act like a body guard,he doesn't need to bargain on your behalf.
3. "DRIVING WITH ESCORT TO BORDER (security) - 20K depending on the car".
I'll have told you that your stupidity has no part two but decorum will not allow me insult you. Everyone knows that when you purchase vehicles from the park, you pay 500,000 cefa to the government and it is used to cover things like insurance, temporary plate numbers, escort services to the border (escorts are licensed drivers engaged by the govt. to drive your vehicle to the border, since you can't drive in another country and it's a way of generating employment for their citizens),where did you get your N20,000 escort fee from?
4."CUSTOM AND CLEARING - 50% of the true cost due to Nigerian Government. they pay a little change, to get your car on the database and pocket the rest of your money. duty worth 500k they pay 120k. so when you check, your car comes up"
50% of which true cost,if don't have an idea of how the system works,it'll not hurt you if you ask instead or ranting. If you've ever taken time to go through my link "https://www.nairaland.com/1572889/custom-duty-payment-made-easier",you'll see that duty payment has been illustrated to the best of our ability. Where did you get the assumption that agents just pay little change and it goes into the system?
5. "They involve a real custom officer to fill out the forms showing that you paid full duty. (scam!!)".
When you say custom officers are involved in the scams that we run (quoting you),who do you actually expect to run NCS offices at the borders or port, maybe you expect to see ghosts from your village or witches that have kept tormenting your soul to carry out day to day activities of the command.
6." NOTE: any car brought through IDIROKO either didnt pay duty at all or underpaid. IDIROKO border is a state border and not federal. if you see the office you will understand".
You're the very first person I've heard this from,so there's now state owned NCS operating at a state border and it's no more a federal customs' command. An international road that has Saamks resort (one of the first indigenous resorts in Nigeria),Winners chapel with a CG NCS squad checkpoint around it's main gate,Obasanjo farms, the Bells university of technology, companies like justrite,Indomie,IDL and so many companies. The road links Rep.of Benin to towns like Ilaro,owode,Ado-odo,otta,ipokia etc and one tends to wonder where you got your picture of a bushpath from.
7. "at the end, they can make close to 500k on a single car and leave you with the risk. your car can be impounded if full duty isnt paid".
So it's not 200K again but 500K,your weed must have been mixed with gegemu and wrapped with cement paper.
If agents make up to 500K per vehicle,it means ordinary 99 camry that's around N850,000 will be around N350,000 (purchase and duty. If I make such money,I won't be shouting on nairaland,I'll be away in U.K or dubai.
8. "Solutions--- go to cotonu yourself and speak negotiate the price of the car before you involve the agent."
Do you think we'll stop you or anyone from going to cotonoui yourself, going with an agent only lessens the risk you'll face in getting a vehicle. What you fail to note is the fact that it pays us if you go into cotonou yourself without us,so that you won't saddle us with the vehicle's wahala at the border..all we would do is leave you with your issues when your car/car parts are stolen or the engine develops faults,na dat time you go know say khaki no be leather.
9. "Insist on following the agent to the bank to the duty. You will however pay for his services. Budget a week to do a clean legal transaction. You can find a good car".
If you go with the agent to the bank, how do you know the dollar valuie he was given and what he's paying into the bank?
Going into the bank with agent isn't a fail-proof system,it's about getting a good and experienced agent and why do you need a week for transactions when you can purchase, clear through customs and even obtain plate numbers within forty-eight hours. If any duty processing goes into a week, there's something more to it,so don't mislead people.
10. "You will however pay for his services. Budget a week to do a clean legal transaction. You can find a good car".
At first you state the N25,000 was a scam and just at the end of your rants, you suddenly advice prospective customers to pay service charges, seriously I don't think you've a sound mind. |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Lost Job Due To Oil Industry Recession But Got Mouth Watering Job by FADEO: 10:07am On Mar 14, 2015 |
Saved2Serve: Our fears and comfort zones only limits us. Been in this contract job since 5yrs ago after graduating from the university. 3yrs into the work, I felt enslaved, underpaid and I saw no career growth. I desire change. I kept reluctantly searching for better opportunities. I also overlooked some job vacancies on the notion the companies are not big players like my erstwhile employer.
Within me, I needed change but I never knew such change must come with a price not on a platter of gold. The global oil fall saw us out of the oil job; surely contract staffs are always the first to get hit in time of recession. We stayed at home with no pay nor notice of our retrenchment.
I dusted my CV, pimped the living daylight into it. Prayed upon it. I decided to leave Nigeria labor market and lunch into deep (international). I joined (applied to) 23 oil and gas recruiting sites across the globe. I also subscribed to 15 recruiting/outsourcing firms. I pimped my LinkedIn profile, updated carefully; paid for 2nd level connection and made new connections in the industry. I connected with recruiters. Had friends recommend me on my linkedin profile. I optimized my profile on google such that if you are searching for people with my expetience especially in Nigeria, my will profile will be in first 5 result. There was results. There was no day I didn't drop an application. I ransacked the Internet. I learnt a lot about job search in this period of my joblessness. I discovered things I will share latter. Have you ever seen a job post you know 100% you are fit for it, yet they throw away your application. You receive a regret mail, without even getting to interview? I Will tell u why.
So after a week, I started getting calls from recruiters oversea saying they saw my CV on so so website and cares to know if I am Interested in a job in so so company and country. We will talk and negotiate terms. Calls came after the other till I got one that is with full expatriate package. I jumped at it.
Now I am back to my feet. To God be the glory. This period has not been easy I came to wonder how people with mouths to feed have stayed longer. Teachers especially. Chai!!! I say to you Never give up my friend in same situation. Help is on the way.
Packing things.....Relocation tinz....Oluwa lifting me up even in recession and redundancy. Father do same for people in this pitiable situation, if not for their sakes,, do it for the sake of those young innocent mouths and elderly mouths they will help. Amen!!! Am so happy for you so much.. God bless you and open doors for people that need this miracle. |

@weaseloo, I am also looking at my wife going to Houston too for delivery in the first quarter of next year. please i will need you expertise information on a lot of things am concerned and worried about. weaseloo: Dr. La now charges a non-refundable deposit of $150 which will eventually be deducted from your full payment. I know El Paso charges $150 as well, not sure if they make it part of your payment. His fees like so many have mentioned already are: $3340: $2500 doctor's charges, $445 labs, $145 initial visit, $250 ultrasound. I tried to negotiate, them no gree. I have tried to see if I can do some of the tests here in Nigeria but the prices I am getting at my hosp is more expensive so, the $445 will be going to them.
I am leaning more towards him bc I think he is expensive for a reason. Done my research on him and compared him with the other doctors at WHMC. To ice it, with the wonderful comments at the beginning of this thread about him, one of my friends used him last year and says good things about him and his services. Plus WHMC is a better location for me.
Other fees include: WHMC vag/CS: 2500/4000 Epidural: 1200 Surg Assistant: 250 Paediatrics: 500/600 Pathology: 200/400 Hearing Test: $326 Circumcision: $325 I believe the last three can be negotiated.
I see Houston is getting more traffic nowadays bc of MIHS's change in cost. Good luck big bumps! Any January houston bound mama's that want to hook up can write me at my username at rocke t m ail. I will not accept pms.
