Buhari is a coup plotter who overthrew a democratic govt. . . .Treason. |
I guess Atiku wants to debate the "merits" of ethnic bigotry, sectionalism and political violence. |
Idehn:I do not believe in anarchy, which is what you seem to be proposing; it is too extreme. Society needs law and clear structures. The structures are to determine what a person requires to progress between status a and status b with the law in place as a safeguard. However, in Nigeria even the most basic structures aren't in place. For example, what makes a person Nigerian and what are their guarantees as Nigerians? That question is unanswerable in practical terms, because (as in an anarchy) there is no clear line of responsibility of govt towards citizens. This can ultimately be traced to our over centralised unitary system where Abuja is responsible for putting out fires in the market and sending police after pickpockets at bus stops. Our national architecture is the root of our problems. It can be fixed by making local authorities responsible for local decisions and issues. Abuja should be left to decide broad national policy, military and foreign affairs matters only. For a society to function optimally, full citizen rights must also be guaranteed, municipal authorities (LG's) must each be responsible for their own survival (not getting beggar money from Abuja through their state govt). These things are standard practice in all functioning countries, but impossible in our current over centralised system. Ownership of mineral bearing lands should be given to the people and taxes paid to LG's, who will pay to states, and in turn states will pay to Abuja. Power generation, policing, water supply etc should be left to the LG's. We need standard structures that enable citizens to both feel a sense of belonging and to reap rewards for creating. You can check out what LG's and state equivalents do in places like the UK where the Greater London budget is 766,221,845,306 Naira (a figure several times the size of the entire Nigerian budget); http://static.london.gov.uk/gla/budget/docs/1011budget.pdf London is a mere city, but it generates more money than the whole of Nigeria (oil and all), yet London is far from being the Worlds richest city. That sort of figure is generated by having proper structures to harness society, something Nigeria lacks at every level; but instead of rectifying our poor national architecture, we are still plagued with primitive arguments such as "zoning" the Presidency. Its a shame. |
Atiku’s politics of entitlement Viewpoints Dec 27, 2010 THE reported events of Thursday November 16, 2010, highlighted what Nigerians knew all along. For starters, a group known as Coalition of Atiku Northern Supporters (CANSU) who are staunch supporters of the former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was reported to have issued a statement. In their statement, they alluded to the fact that crisis would engulf Nigeria if Atiku who is the candidate for the North did not get the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination. They stated that the crisis they would cause would be much greater in proportion to the Boko Haram massacres! In their own words: “This is no threat. Boko Haram will be a child’s play compared to the actions our members can take. We have been patient enough. And enough, they said is enough. The presidency is our right. The fact that we bowed to allow a Southerner, Chief Obasanjo, who has now turned to be a betrayer and a disgrace to us, to become president in 1999 does not mean we do not know what to do to reclaim our right. We are happy that Turaki has now seen reason with us that what Nigeria needs is a violent change and not a peaceful one. “We wish to state equivocally, without any ambiguity, that we, the Atiku supporters, are prepared for any eventuality should our patron be refused the ticket he has worked for. Our position remains: Atiku Presidency ‘Za mu iso waje ko wace irin hali’ (We will get there by whatever means) may Allah, the Almighty not CANSU, cancel Nigeria…”. When the above statement was made, I was thinking that they were bunch of fanatics who were getting restive that their candidate was about to lose the nomination and so resorted to threat to intimidate the country. However, to my greatest surprise, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, not only endorsed their statement but also rationalized it! In a statement by his Campaign Organization, he quoted the late President John F. Kennedy saying: “Those who make peaceful resolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable”. Instead of the former president disowning the group’s statement, he poured fuel into the already volatile situation. It could now be seen that the group is being sponsored by Atiku himself. That little bird dancing fearlessly in the street has a drummer by the bush side urging it on. It is most unfortunate that the person aspiring to lead the country would sanction violence to achieve his selfish ambition of being president. In my place, we have a proverb which says that it is when the wind blows that we see everything hidden under the chicken’s ‘underwear’. The nomination battle has exposed Atiku Abubakar for what he is. He believes that power belongs to the North and that they only leased it to the South and now wants to take back what belongs to them. To him and some people from the North that have same mentality, Nigeria is their birthright and only they could decide what they would do with it. Whoever denies them of their birthright would be dealt with. To them it does not matter what any part of the country thinks, they owned Nigeria! This means, if you are from any other section from the country, or even other major ethnic groups, good luck to you. To him, the North holds the yam and the knife, whoever the North gives a piece of the yam would eat it. Out of Nigeria’s 50 years of independence, the North has ruled for 38 years leaving the South with only 12 years. In fact, out of the 12 leaders Nigeria has produced since independence, the North accounted for nine! On the South’s side, Gen J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi, Chief Ernest Shonekan and Olusegun Obasanjo shared the nine years among themselves. As John Adams would say: “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence”. This is our history and they are indisputable. Many people from the North, including Atiku want to maintain that status quo. Left for Atiku, anyone else can go to hell! Where is Atiku’s sense of justice? He is touting justice and fair play as slogan without understanding what it means or so blinded by his ambition. That arrogance and the air of entitlement is what the problem is. The North and even some people from the South believe that no one can smell any federal appointment let alone the presidency unless they lick the North’s behind. Most Northerners grew up with the same ‘born to rule’ mentality. Do you blame them? Since they were born, every president had come from the North, whether military or civilian; so the attitude would be that it is theirs for the asking. So if anyone from the South becomes president, it would just be like the person is holding it in trust for them, or they just wanted to take a little break. Now that the shoe is on the other feet, it seems like the heavens is about to fall on top of the earth. There is a wise saying: “Let the Chairman take the place of the Provost, so as to see what it feels like to be on your feet during meetings”. How about the South East and many ethnic minorities that have never tasted the presidency? Have they lost hope in the union called Nigeria? Of course, they are still alive even if their hope is wavering. This reminds me of the event in the Holy Book, the Bible, where the Israelites were about to be delivered from Egypt. The heart of Pharoah and his servants were turned against his people and they said: “Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us”. The action of Atiku and some of his Northern supporters reminds me also of the actions of the supporters of Senator John McCain Mr. Chukwudi NWOKOYE writes from Maryland, USA. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/12/atikus-politics-of-entitlement/ |
Asking if Nigerians are better than the leaders is equivalent to asking if a child is better than their home. If the home is bad, do you blame the kids or do you blame the parents? I'm afraid, the question asked by the OP is nonsensical (although thought provoking), it puts the cart before the horse. All Nigerias societal problems stem from our national architecture, which is unitary (and suited only to tiny homogenous countries), but which we decieve ourselves is federal. We will solve all our problems with the insitution of true federalism, which will translate to equity and true representation. Unjust systems create bad citizens and bad citizens make bad leaders. |
appletango:Of course, you are rumour mongers and thief worshippers. There are too many dunces in the Atiku camp. What can be done to help these people? Atiku is a THIEF!

Bodies litter Jos streets Yusuf Alli, Abuja and Yusufu Aminu Idegu, Jos 27/12/2010 00:29:00 JOS was still burning yesterday. Houses were on fire and youths launched a free-for-all. Bodies littered the streets. The government was scrambling to restore peace, following last Friday’s explosions in the Plateau State capital. The city was shut down. Streets were deserted. Businesses remained closed. Agwa Rukuba, Tina, Dogon Dutse, Rikkos, Gadabiu, Abattoir and Dogon Karfe were strewn with bodies. Youths went on the rampage, frustrating Christmas Day church services. As early as 6am, they mounted road blocks on major highways. They set fire to some houses, especially in Angwa Rukuba and Dogon Dutse, where most Jos indigenes live. Rikkos village also exploded in violence, which spread to Abattoir and Dogon-Karfe, where youths engaged one another in a fight. At Abattoir, some worship houses were torched. Thirty-two people have been confirmed dead and 74 injured on the Christmas Eve explosions. Following the continuation of violence, Vice-President Namadi Sambo cancelled his visit to the city to inspect the scene of the violence. Sources said Sambo was advised to suspend the visit, until the security agencies contain the violence. Three suspects allegedly involved in the bombings were yesterday arrested by the Joint Task Force, which launched a manhunt for the masterminds of the explosions. The Commander of the JTF, Brigadier-General Hassan Umar, told our correspondent on the telephone that the suspects were handed over to the Police because "it is the duty of the police to investigate the suspects". "I’m at the forefront with my men to restore normalcy. While we arrested two people in the first batch, we picked up another suspect in the second batch," Gen. Umar said. Security agencies were meeting last night on how to unravel the masterminds of the explosions. A top source said: "We are analysing all clues made available to us. But we are certainly determined to get to the roots of these explosions. "The methods adopted were sophisticated and these underscored the fact that we must unmask the masterminds. We have to get the perpetrators and their sponsors. "They also changed their tactics by hiding under the cover of the night to perpetrate the dastardly acts. "We may involve the locals in trailing some of the suspects." Bomb experts from Abuja have gone to Jos to team up with their colleagues for further investigation. "All the security agencies are involved; it is not an investigation we can leave to the police. "Our immediate challenges are to check the threat of reprisals from all aggrieved groups; restore normalcy; and put in place preventive measures to avoid a repeat of the violence." http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/22940.html |
ndu_chucks:If you had to go to court and required evidence, do you think that download will stand, or will you be laughed out? Even in a village elder setting, do you think that download will count as reasonable evidence or as rumour? The rest of your post is sentiment, I am not trying to percieve your personality, but am simply pointing out where you have stood up to be counted. Do you now wish to add "supporter of rumour mongering" to that sad list as well? |

☻ajali☺:The sort of govt we get is based on the architecture of our union and our abberation of federalism. No? Madam, you are chasing mere symptoms, the real problem is in the nature of the union. |
GAR3TH:In what ways is Nigeria of today better than Nigeria of the 60's? In the 60's, it was possible for Igbo's to win seats in Yoruba land and and Northerners to win seats in Igbo land. I'm curious, tell me how today's Nigeria is better, cos all others have witnessed the slow crumbling of a horrible and unworkable foundation. Things have gradually worsened over the years and the foreign investments and growth you talk about are only coming on the back of oil, which is a thing we don't manufacture or even know how to drill. |
GAR3TH:. . .Funny question. I'll reply with another: Have you heard of any country that is not at war, but several thousand lives are lost to religious conflict on an annual basis? For every seemingly sensible reply you give to the above, I'll ask two deep questions. Deal? |
So you can post in normal size font? Wonders! There was no need to post in bold either, cos we can all see clearly enough to use the site. Scrolling text is client side code, so the simple answer is, go to http://www.samisite.com/test-csb2nf/id73.htm and save the page as HTML. Voila! You'll have the full sources to peep at and hack off to your site. PS; I don't need a recharge, thanks for the offer. |
ndu_chucks:Oh! I call Atiku a thief and suddenly your pained support for zoning and (all Atiku stands for) dries up? Your views are 100% sectional and ethnically bigoted. Please attempt to tick any of the below that you think doesn't apply to you. After you have failed, you may dust yourself and slink off into the night: Ethnic bigotry. . . Grunt! Sectional bigotry. . . Grunt! Unbridled grand theft. . . Grunt! Unabashed corruption. . . Grunt! Planlessness. . . Grunt! Wickedness. . . Grunt! Senselessness. . . Grunt! . . .And of course, Northern hegemony, violence, forged documents and articles. |
ndu_chucks:Seasons greetings to Atiku people! You are followers of a mega thief and thats exactly what that document points out. Atiku is a hero of grand theft and corruption, I really feel pity for his supporters, you are truly lost people. I believe it takes a bottom feeding mind to read that document and think there's joy for Atiku's exposed thieving ways in it, but then, Atiku supporters are a "special" breed. You could suck the brains out of their heads and it wouldn't make a difference, cos all they stand for are the most primevial aspects of neanderthal beliefs, best expressed in grunts: Ethnic bigotry. . . Grunt! Sectional bigotry. . . Grunt! Unbridled grand theft. . . Grunt! Unabashed corruption. . . Grunt! Planlessness. . . Grunt! Wickedness. . . Grunt! Senselessness. . . Grunt! For normal, hardworking, long suffering Nigerians though, doctors recommend that you avoid thieves! blacksta:All hail worshippers of the thief god, Atiku! What can be expected of a thief and the worshippers of theft, but forgeries and re-engineered documents? Thieves have little shame or morals, they go about forging docs and ra.ping the truth. Shame! |
9ijaMan:Hmmmmmmmm. More intelligent folk are of the opinion that Sahara Reporters got the said document from Atiku's people, cos Sahara Reporters have made that fact clear. No? |
olas2u:Likely by "political patronage." SR is useless, |
rasputinn:Preach bro! We cannot continue throwing up the dregs of our uncivilised cesspits as rulers and champions. A thief like Atiku should be serving time, not running for office. A concerned Nigerian citizen, Mr Paul Abbey, has fired a letter to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police demanding the prosecution of Atiku and all those pushing for zoning, saying they have breached Section 102 of the Electoral Act.. . .Now, that's one hell of a clanger! Damn! Jail all ethnic bigots and throw away the bloody key! ![]() |
saint1983:Some of you will continue to talk stupidly and without an iota of shame. It is a disgrace that Black people from the same country can institute apartheid on themselves. You fools would make Hitler proud. Pack of barbarians! I pray that your country is invaded as soon as possible by ECOWAS military forces to wipe out the last traces of "Ivority" introduced by the dead Konan Bedie an carried on by the various madmen that have ruled you ever since. You people have been terrorising your own people, claiming that Northern Ivorians are foreigners. Lets see how your twopenny bully army stands up to the military might of countries like Nigeria. It will pay you to check out what a single ship like NNS Aradu can do to you from the sea. You keep going to war over your apartheid policies? We will sort out your disgraceful behaviour. Fools. |
alj harem1:You concern yourself so much with the Niger Delta, yet there are 10 million alimajiri's in your part of the World. Not just that, but religious terrorist activities, even on Christmas day; plus all sorts of backwardness and wretchedness. Why bother yourself with people whose lot is far better than yours, while your ship is sinking? Now, thats a real curiosity and the very definition of the word, FOOL! |
^ Dude, you've always been a cross-breed between man and donkey, a truly daft person. I am not Ijaw. |
I am really appalled at the level of political ignorance by some of our brothers from the SW (dayokanu, lagbaja etc). For some strange reason, they feel that the old Midwest (or parts of it) will find their way into Oduduwa. The very same Midwest that bolted from the SW? We do not appreciate any form of overbearing dominance by any large ethnic group that has not grasped the meaning of true federalism and imagines their population will equate to total political control. It is quite clear that some have no clue as to why todays Nigeria is failing; even though, God in his infinite wisdom has ensured that Nigeria is kept alive by the SS minorities, some are still too blind to see an equitable way out. Tribalism is for fools. As for Udezue's partitioning of the Itsekiri with the Yoruba, it seems a physical impossibility, because there are vast Ijaw territories between the Itsekiri and the Yoruba. More than that however, is the fact that the problems between the Urhobo and Ijaw against the Itsekiri are easily resolvable (as evidenced by current Delta state politics); especially when it is realised that they were created when we were part of the Western region. Yes, the Warri problem was created by a tribalistic Western region leader (who like some from that region today, put population above equity). We won't be going back to the same old thing - the SS minorities aren't anybodies puns. As to the way we will go in the event of a split, it would likely be a country made up of the old Midwest groups. Failing that, we would accept a confederation, if offered by Biafra. We would accept same from the SW, only we will never be part of a country called Oduduwa (names gotto go). A state like Delta, whose people are politically savvy over and beyond what obtains in the rest of the country, will come to any negotiating table with very sophisticated arguments. The question is if others will be ready or able to cope. Delta state is the only one in Nigeria to have been successfully led by someone from an ethnic minority; Uduaghan is Itsekiri, in a state whose majority population is Urhobo (followed by Igbo). Nigeria should be modelled on Delta state, we put the rest to shame. |
lagbaja20:Stop it abeg! You don't need us and we don't need you. Nobody needs anybody and everybody can survive on their own if need be, we need to be confident in our abilities to weather any storm. By the way, what culture and history does the SW share with Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and 90% of Delta state? I'm not saying there can't be synergy, but there certainly isn't a "need." |
Musiwa,:No wonder!!!! ![]() |

Draw. . . .And Man U matches on! ![]() |
strangerf:This is absolutely ridiculous. You shouldn't care if the mod is from the Moon or Uzbekistan as long as they do a proper job. Mukina has her faults and weaknesses, but being a Black person from anywhere in the Universe is a plus, being an African is another plus, having roots in West Africa is yet another, as is being Sierra Leonian. The overriding plus though, is if she is doing a good job. Her origins have nothing to do with the job, lets stop brandishing bigotry as some sort of acceptable banner, it is disgusting and disgraceful. Next thing will be to ask that all mods come from Seuns state, which in turn will only last as long as those from his village and compound allow. There's a thing called closed-mindedness that stunts possibilities for those it affects. |
It is fools like you that use such derogatory terms. You can hardly hang two words together to make a coherent sentence, yet you wish to redefine words that have already been defined by your betters. Dude, I lost any respect for you on the day you repeatedly posted that you would p.i.m.p your wife for papers abroad and not care who the father of your kids was. Now you want to add this deeply insulting thread to that. |
Ikwikwikwi:That is exactly what the bombers wish you to do. The cabal will use the confusion to attempt to sieze power and smash through the South. Let govt take the lead instead and we egg them on to use max violence. |
May the souls of the departed rest in peace. Everybody that has threatened violence in any form and those that have voiced plans to make the country ungovernable must be arrested. Enough is enough!!! |
