No problem..

hian @seyewest The dude isn't lying at all and don't mind the immigration officer you asked, they always have double standards. See, what is happening is that of recent, they collect your old passport in some cities. My friend did his in Benin and it was collected but my mum renewed hers in the same Benin and it wasn't collected.

Lets be used now to Nigeria's ways of doing things!
Thanks for your input. I'm glad people on this thread are confirming same. My annoyance is she is so sure something is fishy. She talks like she called immigration officers all over Nigeria and stood with me during my renewal seeing them hand my passport over to me or she saw them seizing it for reasons best known to her.

Good News Fellas grin grin

So I applied for a B1/B2 visa to enable me attend a Medical Conference in Bleep state and then see a distant relative in Bleep state in America.
I was curious before now and that's why I kept coming on nairaland. The reasons being that I was working in another Country and only in Nigeria for holidays, and kept wondering how to demonstrate home ties.
Thanks for all who made comments with key points and encouragement. (from ladyG to Abujaniv).
Congrats

Can we move on from this passport palaver.. I spoke with an officer at the Immigration Office and he said if you have exit and entry stamp on your passport it will not be collected unless you want them to have it.
Your international passport is your evidence of travel history and if you have a valid visa on your passport will you leave it with Nigeria Immigration even if there's no visa stamp on it... you can still use it as an ID and use it for local flights in the country... I'm not accusing you of anything because it's fishy if they have to collect your expired passport with entry and exit stamp on it because there goes your evidence of your travel to those country which means it's not admissible and it's misrepresentation... I don't care about where you've been or what you do... if we can't accept reason on this thread we will lose our credibility maybe this is the reason why @LagosNIV did not bother with this issue.
NB By the way I did not call you criminal I questioned why you leave your passport with them.
Those that confirmed theirs was retrieved too had something fishy right?

I wonder who accepts an expired passport as a form of ID and how local flights will accept an expired passport when you have a valid one. You try to sound like you know so much but I have yet to be convinced.

I would have taken it for a kind gesture if you had simply asked questions without directly accusing me. I had problems when you insisted I had something fishy when you are not an immigration staff.

Even when I tried to explain and others confirmed, you went ahead to reaffirm your points..

And yes saying something is fishy is same as saying I'm a criminal. Please next time be objective in your response especially when you're not so sure. Be constructive in your criticism and Don't be quick to draw conclusions.

Finally, the LagosNIV is not a passport officer so I wonder what you expected him to contribute to an issue like this. If you are bothered about losing your credibility, I'm not because Integrity is my watchword.

Thanks for your time anyway, It is not my intention to have an argument. I only came here to get answers but it's unfortunate this is happening.

What she said is true. My mom's expired passport was taken from her at Ikoyi passport office recently. Though she didn't have valid visas in them.
Thanks. Imagine you guys had not experienced same thing, I would have presented as a fraudster. I don't know why people can't give benefit of doubt when they don't have their facts right. It makes me begin to doubt Nigerians too. If such a small itch as visiting a Visa-free country can cause this drama, then Nigeria has got a long way to go.

The part that hurts most was that my question was left unanswered and they were busy nailing a so-called criminal without information.

Guy I was surprised mine was collected from me as well but with no visas in it, just like the OP's case. We know about their internal workings and, therefore, wouldn't know why they do what they do. Think of it this way, they get a directive to take back passports within a specific number range and without valid visas (perhaps due to the fact those could easily be forged), would they tell you why they're taking it?

Please let's be constructive as he's advised. I strongly believe Faith111 as the same thing happened to myself. If anyone has anything to say to his case please do without sounding accusatory.
Infact NLs will almost make you feel like a fool that doesn't know what he is saying anymore. It wasn't just mine that was taken funny enough. Thank God yourself and someone else has confirmed this. So I leave those that think they know it all to keep doubting themselves. I'm not in for any arguments with anyone. That yours was returned doesn't mean others are liars.
If I have the opportunity of visiting the passport office, I'll ask them why they retrieve passports from some persons and return that of others because I'm really shocked some people had theirs returned. Like I said earlier B1 visa is no visa to heaven so I'm not in any way desperate. I qualify for PR through skilled migration for both Canada and Australia if at all migration is my trouble.
So let those that think everyone is a fraudster continue.

Well, there r experts that respond to such questions n it's possible they haven't seen it. However no one can tell u if u have a good chance of getting a visa or not. It is basically dependent on a number of factors inclu but not limited to ur travel history, ties etc. We also don't know d totality of the information provided or u hope to provide in ur ds-160...and if ur body lang rhymes with ur details as provided when u go fr ur interview. Just be honest....
My 50cents...*winks*
Thanks for your kind response. I don't even have to act any or try to rhyme. I'm plain. I got everything as stated in my profile and the visa is not a do or die affair for me as I've got lots of things on my hands. Off to a busy day. Thanks once more
TravelRe: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by Faith111: 9:03pm On Jan 16, 2017
It's quite annoying that someone asks a question and no one responds but everyone queries and accuses the person of something so irrelevant.

1) I don't need a visa to Benin or Togo
2) It won't take me more than 20k to get to Togo so why the doubtshuh I started going to Togo even as a student. It hurts when people start talking about something fishy and all that over nothing but a visa free Togo.

If my passport was seized will I be issued with a new onehuh

I could go ahead and tell the VO I have no travel experience and it won't change anything. I'm not desperate to get a US visa.

I feel so disappointed because there is something called constructive criticism. If you must critize, attack the issue not the person. Attacking my credibility is uncalled for as not everyone is a fraudster.

I expected answers but the response I get is that of a suspect. If you have meaningful answers to my post please fine if no one does, I will gladly walk out. Thanks

So where's the proof you have been to those places? What if the V.O ask for evidence of travel?
I just gave you valid answers to your questions. They do collect old passports. It's left for you to confirm. Till then, take my word.
I don't intend proving anything more than I have said.
If you can provide answers to my previous questions please do. Thanks

They do not collect it... if you have a valid visa on it.. will they collect it? it will be cancelled without prejudice.. Nigerian Immigration will never ever do it without asking you if they should hold it or not.
You don't need a visa to enter Ghana, Togo, or Benin. Thanks

Why did Nigerian Immigration seize your passport? I thought they normally ''cancelled without prejudice'' when there's no problem.. Maybe something is fishy here.
No they didn't seize it. Don't always think something is fishy. They took it after renewal. They did same to everyone. They said I have a new passport and that the old one now belongs to the Government. Looks like a new rule to me you could confirm.
I'm talking about immigration passport office and not POE

Good day everyone.
Big thanks to LagosNIV, ladyG and everyone that takes time to provide answers to puzzles on this platform.

Please I intend to start up a fish farm some months from now as an alternative source of income so I got an invitation to attend a conference on fish culturing as the conference will be giving insights on modern techniques in fish culturing, how to startup, and there are also key workshops I'm interested in which will cover the major challenges in fish culturing.

1. This not related to my occupation as I work with a well known company as a professional and earn over #250k monthly but I want to do this for extra income.

2. I'm attending this conference as part of my annual leave and i have an official letter to this effect.

3. I have been working for over 5 years.

4. I am married with 3 kids.

5. I have previously traveled to Togo and Benin for business.

6. I have my hotel confirmation already.

7. I'm staying for 6 days.

What do you guys think about my profile??

NB: I don't have intentions to immigrant and I intend to return to my family and job after my leave.
