The National Population Commission (NPC) of Nigeria has responded to concerns over the expenditure of N200 billion in preparation for the national census, which has been indefinitely postponed.

The commission clarified that the funds were spent over the course of eight years since 2014 when preparations for the census began.

In a statement released by Isiaka Yahaya, the Director of Public Affairs at NPC, it was emphasized that the monetary value of the data collected during the preparation phase alone is estimated to be in the trillions of naira.

The commission has utilized these funds to develop enumeration area frames, which will not only serve the upcoming census but also future censuses and surveys. Additionally, the recruitment exercise for the census has generated a comprehensive database of applicants, including their personal information such as names, ages, qualifications, addresses, phone numbers, and account numbers.

Yahaya addressed what he referred to as “skewed media narratives” surrounding the expenditure, suggesting that these narratives were an attempt to divert attention from the significant work the commission has accomplished thus far.

He further emphasized that the preparations made by NPC have not only enhanced the quality and scope of arrangements for the forthcoming census but will also contribute to making future censuses more cost-effective.

The NPC assured Nigerians and development partners of its unwavering commitment and competence in delivering credible, reliable, and acceptable census data.

Despite the indefinite postponement, the commission remains dedicated to its mission and is confident that the investments made in the preparation phase will yield long-term benefits for the country.

The new administration is yet to determine a future date for the census, as the decision to postpone it indefinitely was approved by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a shocking incident that has left the community of Joska in disbelief, Beth Mwangi, a 36-year-old salon owner and mother of three, has been found dead.

The gruesome discovery was made by her two young sons, aged 11 and 8, who stumbled upon their mother’s lifeless body hidden under their parents’ bed.

Authorities have confirmed that Beth was strangled to death. Beth Mwangi’s life had been marred by a turbulent marriage, plagued by a dark secret. It was revealed that her husband had committed a heinous act, preying on their own daughter and subjecting her to molestation.

The matter was taken to court, but it seems that justice was denied as Beth’s mother received compensation from her in-laws, and her husband allegedly managed to evade the consequences by bribing his way out of the situation. Due to the persistent conflicts with her husband, Beth would often leave home for several days, only to return later.

Last week, after yet another quarrel, she took her two sons to stay with their sister, who had already left home and started her own family.
When Beth’s eldest daughter, N, noticed that her mother had failed to pick up the boys and that they hadn’t gone to school, she became concerned.
She decided to check on her mother, and upon arriving home, she found her father but not her mother.
Worried, she left the boys in their father’s care and departed. It was during the night that the two young boys, left alone with their father, began to notice a foul odor emanating from their parents’ bedroom.

Curiosity got the better of them, and they followed the smell, only to make the horrifying discovery of their mother’s decomposing body underneath the bed, surrounded by flies. In a state of panic and confusion, the boys sought help from their neighbors, explaining what they had encountered. The authorities were immediately notified, and Beth Mwangi’s body was transported to Bahati Bukuku mortuary.

Today, a post-mortem examination confirmed that she had indeed been strangled to death. The main suspect in this brutal murder is David Kiarie, the husband of the victim. It has been reported that he fled the scene, taking with him crucial documents belonging to the deceased, including her phone and the children’s phones.

The authorities have identified his parents’ home in Muranga as a possible location, and an intensive manhunt is currently underway to bring him to justice.

The Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa Command, has nabbed one Isyaku Lawal of 23-year-old, for allegedly sodomising a nine-year-old boy in Jigawa State.

The agency’s Public Relations Officer, in the person of CSC Adamu Shehu, made this know in a statement signed and issued out on the agency’s Facebook handle on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the father of the victim revealed that his daughter, an elder sister to the victim, reported to him that her sibling was sexually abused by the suspect.

The statement partly read, “Upon questioning, the boy stated that he was taken to an isolated place in the evening while he was playing alongside his friends by the suspect who removed his trousers and had canal knowledge of him, and thereafter urged him not to tell anyone and promised to buy him sweets, a promise which he failed to fulfill and which made him expose the incident to his sister.

“Meanwhile, medical examinations conducted at Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) at General Hospital Dutse shows repeated rectal penetrations and bruises in the anal area.

“Suspect has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court of competent jurisdiction to expedite justice.”

Lagos State Government has revealed the planned workers’ pay rise by the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is not a causal political tool to win the 2033 elections.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier approved a 25 per cent rise as salary for its workers in the state on Tuesday. The announcement was well welcomed with jubilation by it workers

Mr Gbenga Omotosho Who is the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on Friday disclosed to the newsmen in Ikeja, Lagos state that the state workers deserved the pay rise in their salaries as part of efforts to appreciate their job well-done amidst the harsh economic inflation in the country.

According to him “The governor is saying that we appreciate the services you are providing and although things are so hard, you are still carrying on and you are putting smiles on the faces of Lagosians who are coming to government offices.

“No matter how low or high the percentage may be, I think the symbolism is that at this particular time, Mr Governor feels that workers deserve a raise and he has pronounced it. If you listen to him very well, he said he had instructed the Office of Head of Service, Establishment, State Treasury Office to come together to look at these and see what the numbers are and see how we can go, but that workers will now have a pay rise is a foregone conclusion.

“I think the whole world is hailing him for doing that but if people are now saying it is for political reasons, let other people in positions of authority also do so for political reasons and raise salaries.”

Gbenga Omotosho made references to the other infrastructural projects going on in the state, and told the newsmen that they will be inaugurated by the state government before the year runs out.

He furthered “We have over 30 schools for us to be inaugurated. We also have housing projects to be inaugurated before the end of the year, and jetties are also included. We are building the infrastructure for the Blue line Rail system that will take passengers from Marina to Mile 2,”

Musiliu Akinsanya, the chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages management committee, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has disclosed that connecting the killing of EndSARS protesters to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, is uncalled for, appalling, that he’s not capable of giving such orders to the shooters.

Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, has removed the image of Celestine Omehia, from the Government House on Friday.

This is coming after the Rivers Governor, Wike signed the legal instrument derecognising Celestial Omehia as a former governor of Rivers state.

It was called that Rivers State House of Assembly had earlier on Thursday passed a motion in the house to derecognise Omehia as the state Governor and which Wike signed the legislative instrument on Friday.

Having signed it, Governor Wike moved to remove his image from the government house.

The former national chairman of the PDP, Vincent Ogbulafor, is said to have passed away in Canada at the age of 73.

According to a family member who wished to remain anonymous, Ogbulafor passed away due to an unnamed ailment.

A family source has confirmed his passing, and they also told Thisday Newspaper that he passed away on Thursday, October 6, in Canada, at the age of 73, from an unidentified illness.

Ogbulafor hails from Olokoro in the Abia state’s Umuahia South local government.

Prior to his election as National Chairman following a heated national conflict between Senators Sam Egwu and Anyim Pius Anyim, Ogbulafor served as the PDP’s first national secretary.
