Nigeriaone sorry to bother you one more time.
Nigeria don't have power problem. we have human resources and people problem. last year i was in Nigeria for my mum's funeral immediately the canopies went up and the musicians started testing their music equipment, the lights went off. i was called 5 mins later to settle a man from the authourity.  i asked him what he thought we should do to the generators working he asked how many days we were holding the funeral.  tell me it was the power station that was not working. it is always the people.

have you heard of solar energy sir? why don't we use it? i only took 2 £400 panels home last Christmas and my people have 24hrs power supply now.  why can't that be repeated nation wide by the silly government.  God gave us enough sun and thank God Nigeria is not NY the whole country would have died during the winter months not to talk o summer. give nigeria  even 700,000 MW of power the people will still not work it out smoothly.

on your abuja schools and ondo schools. what is wrong with all those lovely millionaires you have there building the schools as part of their give back to the society they live in and some of them robbed.

i went to a primary school i went to years ago for a filming and was so shocked that we could't record anything because it was the most disgusting thing i have ever set my eyes on.  i can't believe nigerians treat kids like that.

don't tell me there is no money in ondo or edo where i went to school. don't tell me there are no cements and tools to give these kids a better environment. it is the people who are misguided. the society has wrong priority.  the money they waste doing those parties can easily be used to do these things for the betterment of the society.

why can some people gather together and use their bricklaying skills to work on those walls and some carpenters do the windows?

it is not about technology or anything like that. we have a great human resources wahala.
Please Josh, I have been looking out for this info. Could you please tell me which company you got from? If possible I will like to chat with you. Thank you.

pmdaboh:
I am an African American woman married to a Nigerian man, and prayerfully he will soon join me.  When I first came on Nairaland and read the way many Nigerians were writing and expressing themselves, I really thought it was another language (broken down).  Until I read what Rubbermaid wrote today, I had no idea that was suppose to be English.

I agree with Rubbermaid that many Nigerians need to improve their written language, but I think "refusing to participate any further on Nairaland because of it" is pompous--to say the least.  Perhaps if Rubbermaid wrote consistently in correct grammar, then others will see the need for improvement and know how to correct their errors.

Being an educator, Business Education Teacher and Department Head of Technology, I admire the written and spoken word.  Being able to present yourself in a professional manner is of the utmost importance when applying for various positions, for you not only represent yourself, but you are also representing that company or organization.  However, I believe Rubbermaid was very harsh in the way she addressed the issue.

My husband is Ijaw, and I am learning to speak and write in Ijaw.  As Americans, we should not think the "world is English, and if anyone wants to communicate with us, they better learn English".  I love learning Ijaw, and I know one Yoruba word (o da ro/goodnight).  I was VERY IMPRESSED with how many languages Nigerians know how to speak. We Americans learn English (by birth) and other languages that are incorpoated in our school curriculum.  But because we do not use those other languages learned in school on a regular basis (French, Spanish, Chinese, German and others), we lose the ability to speak them.  Yet Lagos, Nigeria, who has so many rich cultures dwelling together, is full of diverse languages.  This was one thing I LOVED about Lagos, Nigeria when I was there for two weeks.  I GREATLY ADMIRE the way Nigerians can speak in several languages, and it has birthed a desire in me to learn more languages too.

Yes, many Nigerians need to learn to write and punctuate English correctly, but "WE ALL NEED IMPROVING" in something in life.  No one is an exception to that--not even Rubbermaid.

Patricia

Be tuwapereh (tuwapereh/blessed in Ijaw)!
Talking of African Americans, do they speak English? Spare us pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Rubbermaid:
No. I can't teach anybody English - it's not my job. I save my skills for my professional presentations, thesis, and other communications.
Additionally, it looks like those who need to improve their language skills are not bothered enough to take advantage of classroom lessons, or dedicate themselves to self-help solutions.

Ironically, we wonder why so many Nigerian graduates are treated like crap when they apply for jobs.  Prove this, prove that,  line up, take a test, touch the sky, hop like a toad, etc.Bad English is the reason! If many can graduate from Universities with such poor grammar then of course, all bets will be off in assessing the quality of their credentials.
I think you got it wrong there. The Chinese and even other Europeans commit the worst grammer crimes yet they are admitted and employed with ease.

Tell me the educational system is poor in Nigeria and I will agree with you. English is not our language and no one should crucify anybody for not speaking it well. Even the English speak and write nonsense. Again remember that not everybody that posts here is a graduate. What you see here is Nigeria. Not every Nigerian has good education.

Meanwhile thank you for having a good command of English though you shouldn't have bordered telling us.

Hope you also have a good command of your own language.

Hm Josh,

Obasanjo is the one who taunted General Gowon in 1993, asking him what he forgot in the state house that he was going back to take.(when he picked presidential nomination form).

I think OBJ was asked the same question when he contested for presidency in 1999 and he said that what he left has been destroyed.
I guess your friend was just being funny.

Nigeriaone or whatever you call yourself, please try and edit your mind and your post please.

I do not know your relationship with OBJ's family, but whatever it is, you are either a looter yourself or a beneficiary of stolen wealth.

Stop all these your defence. We are all adults. Haba, even if them carry cellotape cover ur eyes, u no fit remove am?

Yar'Adua at the moment is better than OBJ on face value. If you like hit ur head on Zuma rock. Bringing sentiment into this will never change anything.

She is a rogue.

Wasn't she the one that said her father is the greatest statesman in Africa? She openly said she found nothing wrong with whatever her father did. And people are saying one should not link her with her father's evil when she was one of his foot soldiers.

Make we hear word jare.

RomanceRe: Why Do Girls Think That Bankers Are Flirts? by faketan(m): 2:37pm On Dec 20, 2007
The truth is that an average man is a flirt. It takes discipline to control your gravitaion towards beautiful lassies. Again, everyone knows that many girls will not just follow you even if you are Brad with an empty purse. Since the bankers are in the majority of better paid employees in Nigeria, they tend to have the confidence to approach anything that has boobs. Extra cash=extra boldness and confidence

What is wrong here is that flirting in the banking hall is not professional and that is the difference between the western bankers and some Nigerian bankers. As for London bankers flirting, they do worse things. Remember, white men do not always fancy you if they think you are not a slot, as they will not want a long term thingy with you.

abeg i no be banker, niether am I english. English teacher beware and leave my thread alone
