Religion / New Date Fixed For Eid-el-kabir Celebration. by fako1(m): 8:22am On Sep 14, 2015
A new date has been fixed for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Known in Islamic parlance as Eid Al-Adha, Muslims sacrifice an animal usually a sheep, goat, cow or camel as something of an offering to God as the Prophet Abraham once did.

The initial date for this year’s celebration, which takes place after pilgrims to the holy land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia descend from Mount Arafat, was September 23.

However, a new date of September 24 was announced by the Moon Sighting Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Monday. The announcement was made after the kingdom’s moon-sighting committee met in Riyadh and other cities to look for Zul Hijjah crescent, which is the 12th and last month of the Islamic calendar. Because the new moon was not sighted on Sunday night, Eid Al-Adha now falls on September 24.

“Monday will be the last day of Zul Qaadah and Tuesday, September 15, 2015, will mark the beginning of the lunar month of Zul Hijjah,” the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced.

The first day of Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on September 24, 2015 as the Zul Hijjah moon was not sighted on September 13, 2015, according to a statement from the official moon-sighting committee of Saudi Arabia. The peak of the Hajj, which is the Day of Arafat, will be on September 23, 2015.

TV/Movies / Ex-bba Housemate, Tayo Faniran Is Worst Actor On TV – Charles Novia by fako1(m): 4:46pm On Sep 03, 2015
Nollywood film director Charles Novia, might not be in the good books of Tayo Faniran after voicing his opinion on the reality TV star’s acting performance on TV series Tinsel. The film director took to twitter to analyze Tayo’s performance and described him as the worst actor on Nigerian TV.

Read the full Twitter rant below…

1. My award for the worst actor on Nigerian TV presently, would be the ex-BBA housemate, Tayo Faniran who’s standing in for Gbenro in TINSEL.

2. I have been watching his act on the series and it’s either the casting director lives in Mars or there’s suspended reality there somewhere.

3. All this ‘fine boy, come act’ crap Producers shove in the faces of viewers have to stop! It’s killing the arty side of a noble profession

4. Talent is like a mirror; you can’t fake it. Tayo shouldn’t be on screen as an actor in the first place.Come on! Whose bright idea please?

5. His projection is zero, articulation like a kid with a toffee stuck in the mouth and visualisation of xter absolutely terrible! Haba!

6. I know he’s got a lot of fans and all but that’s not helping this case.Either he goes for actin lessons or sticks to presenting that show

7. Acting is serious business and not to be trifled with. Reality shows are not to be used as automatic back passes for tepid actors. Yep!

8. His counterparts before him, ex-reality show ‘stars’, are not much better too. However, Tayo is dovetailing on bad precedents too.

9. There must be something else the dude can do better and I am sure he can, if they stop lying to him about any acting ambitions. D.O.A.

10. I rest my case. And my opinion is basically my opinion, though I am sure this one is mostly everyone’s muted opinion too.

Entertainment / Re: Frank Odega Goes From “gerrarrahia” To Latest Etisalat Ambassador by fako1(m): 12:56pm On Sep 02, 2015
This guy just left me a little speechless and I must admit, a little low in my spirit. He was asking me when I was going to be a multi millionaire from investment and affiliation with the entertainment industry? 15years and I never buy Bentley.
Just I was chewing on his words and advice that it was time to stop waiting for my time & do whatever to get mine, I just remembered a name from nowhere. The name : Francis Odega
That name belongs to a comedian who started his entertainment sojourn before the birth of Nollywood. In the late 80's Francis was in a comedy drama series called "At your service" as directed by a Bodilon Bodio for the NTA.
Later tried to eat from a radio comedy show with Okey Bakassy. Then was a pioneer stand up comic for night of a thousand laughs. The night yet by this time had refused to give way to day break for his commercial success.
Then he joined nollywood as the side kick clown for years. Within this period, the industry that never put him on the A list took such a nosedive that Mr Odega had to open a video rental shop at Mafoluku where he attended to customers himself on many occasions.
All this while, he didn't give up on his craft accompanied with HARDWORK, PATIENCE, CONSISTENCY and HUMILITY. Then with one small scene in a super low budget movie in 2015, God said it was time to pay him.
Pay day today is that Francis is the most popular Nigerian actor in world at the moment. Doubt me, then show me who else has 50cents and Tinie Tempah reposting his video's and following him on instagram. Pay day is fully booked shows in the UK and US. Pay day is endorsement with a Telcom company about to be announced. Pay day is money rolling in like mad. The rule hasn't changed with God. Work hard and wait. Don't soil your hands out of impatience. "God dey" is still the most efficient prayer of the poor man. It will come at the right time like a dream b4 your eyes. Don't give up.
Hurt over my earlier speechless response, I now have the perfect response waiting for my taunting pal should he dare to ask me how long I want to wait. My loud and clear answer would be GERARAHERE!!! - Emma Ugolee (Aug 19 2015)

Politics / A Word On Akpabio's Accident. - By Pius Adesanmi by fako1(m): 12:05am On Sep 01, 2015
Pius Adesanmi shares his own thought on how premium times took the whole akpabio's accident. He bared his mind through his facebook page:

I am not happy with my people at Premium Times at all. So, Godswill Akpabio's siren-blaring, over-speeding convoy jumps a red light in Abuja today, misses one very important ordinary citizen and rams into another very important ordinary citizen's car. Premium Times makes the story all about Akpabio and even sends a reporter pronto to the hospital where Akpabio is receiving treatment while his victim, a very important ordinary citizen of Nigeria, remains completely anonymous.

So, I ask Premium Times: who exactly cares about Akpabio? Your first journalistic responsibility is to that anonymous citizen in your story, then to his car that was rammed by the irresponsible Akpabio, then to Akpabio in that order. You tell us who this citizen is, if he is ok, who will be responsible for his hospital bills. You give us a picture of the guy, send a reporter to interview him. Then you inquire into the health of his car. That guy is one of us in the 99%. The only interest we have in Akpabio is whether the law will take its course. He must Word on Akpabio's Accident pay fines for breaking traffic regulation. He ought to lose his driving cum convoy cum big man privileges and undergo psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is capable of responsible conduct on Nigerian roads.

Those are the only angles you ought to pursue about this member of the 1%.

Politics / Nigerians Have Been Fooled Yet Again! - Etcetera by fako1(m): 6:48am On Aug 22, 2015
“I believe if Nigeria does not kill corruption; corruption will kill Nigeria. I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities and encourage my political appointees to also publicly declare their assets and liabilities.” – President Buhari (during his campaign)

Now, the presidency through the presidential spokesman has said the promise of asset declaration wasn’t made by Buhari but his political party. Jeez! These people just think say we be mumu sha… dem think say everybody for naija dey suffer from dyslexia. Shebi na dem preach say Buhari na modest man with just two houses and 150 cattle? They also said Buhari and Osinbajo have declared their assets, and it is deposited with the code of conduct bureau and the only thing needed is just verification by the bureau? How many months does the Code of Conduct Bureau need to verify an asset of two houses and 150 cattle? Nawa ooo!!! Naija una don see una sef? Is this the “change?”

President Buhari’s achievements as a former military Head of State may be many. But he has utterly failed to keep a simple promise core to the rationale for his election into office. And as the campaign promises recede into memory, it is equally clear that this administration may never provide the needed reforms that will address the most worrisome flaws in our democratic system. I have met a lot of Buhari supporters who are finally coming to the realisation that they may have made a very bad decision in the last Presidential election. So many of them no longer seem to know why they believed that a retired military general would perform any better than the career politicians they mistrust.

President Buhari’s bygone promises to run “the most transparent administration in the history of this country” have become a subject of mockery, given how he has failed in a simple task of appointing ministers.

When critics like me attacked his go-slow government, the administration defended itself by claiming the president was only taking his time.

But the problem with this administration is not only about being too slow but it has also left untouched the corrupt individuals, which means that we would continue to live under a government with significant transparency problems, a culture of lobbying that is often tantamount to sanctioned corruption, and an executive branch of government that preaches a change that no one gets to see.

Is it unrealistic to expect ambitious systemic reforms in Nigeria? Yet it remains the case that many people voted for Buhari precisely because he promised to attempt them.

I believe president Buhari can solve a lot of things … but won’t. Whatever he once was or wasn’t, we should accept that Buhari is now a creature of the political establishment. He is captive to its loyalties and prejudices, and committed to safeguarding its interests. I am not arguing that he hasn’t or won’t accomplish anything, but there are whole categories of problems that he won’t try to fix.

“Change” is a mirage sold to us by Buhari and his political party to get our votes. And that’s a shame. Nigerians are unlikely to support a politician making similar promises in the future because Buhari has made them impossible to believe.

Those sending messages to me at mail@etceteralive.com asking me to write on how Buhari’s administration has improved electricity supply in the country should ask themselves how long president Buhari has been in office to put in place the machinery for such a turnaround. Abi rain nor dey fall for una area? Let us wait till the dams are dried up before singing halleluyah.
