Education / JPTS Urge Nigerians To Embrace Online Professional Certification by fancyhandsome(m): 11:38am On Aug 31, 2021
Concerned with the rate of academic decadence in the country, the board and management of Joint Professional Training Support International (JPTS) has called on Nigerians to embrace professional certifications which will serve as a cutting edge above academic qualifications.

This call was made recently in Lagos, by Professor Christopher Imumolen, President JPTS Int'l, while addressing the media in Lagos, on the need to bridge the prevalent educational lacuna with professional certification.

Imumolen asserted that,it is a known fact that the educational system in Nigeria has its great challenge, considering the quality of graduates our universities are churning out yearly.

This according to him, is obviously an issue which should be nibbed in the bud, before it blows out of proportion. His words" This is obviously a huge challenge, considering the fact that most of our graduates need to be brushed up to properly fit into industrial units or settings, hence, the purpose of professional certification "

He noted that JPTS is a professional training institute which has been bridging that gap over the years by training and providing certification in Health and Safety Management, Environmental Safety Management, Quality Management, and other fields.

Pointing out that JPTS, in partnership with American Welding Society, also engaged in the field of welding to ensure there is enough manpower in the technical school area.

"Yes we have government bodies which engage in professional training, but there is a need for private institutes to also assist in providing such trainings to bridge the gap. Such professional training schools like JPTS, which is not only  training theoretically, but also helping out on the practical fields, thereby helping Nigerians, fit properly into the work space," he said.

The JPTS boss asserted that Nigeria needs to have a strong workforce which could deliver optimally.

He added that JPTS, which is duly registered with CAC in Nigeria and the New York Commerce Department and the Federal Ministry of Education, is a well established professional training institution with numerous international accreditation, has grown from a training institute into having its own University called Global Wealth University, in Togo.

Students, who have obtained their International professional certificate, could now through the system of credit transfer and credit evaluation obtain their Bachelor degrees, Masters, up to PhD at Global wealth and other international Universities.

He noted that globally, the world is embracing professional certification, a cutting edge on the technical field and that many  professional training institutes have grown into becoming universities.

To Register for the Scholarship weaver student should check www.jptsportal.com for more information.

Celebrities / Ex BBAfrica Housemate, Roki Features Koffi Olomide, Rayvanny In New Song, Patati by fancyhandsome(m): 8:25pm On Aug 06, 2021
Zimbabwean music star,  Rockford Josphats better known by his stage name, Roki, has collaborated with other African stars Koffi Olomide and Rayvannny for the release of his long awaited song titled, "Patati Patata".

Roki, after a long break from the music scene was recently signed under Passion Java records, a deal that revolt and breathed new life into his dormant career.

In a recent interview, Roki explained why he had chosen to do a collaboration with the legendary singer, Kofi,
“As much as I had never met this man, I have always felt like a variant of Kofi Olomide, I saw a lot of myself in him.

“With all that I could gather, this man was greater than myself and having aspired to do so, to finally meet him was such a great honour, it meant the world to me.

“In the 90s rumba music changed from Kwassa Kwassa to Sebene Ngwasuma and during that time, I listened to a lot of his songs which influenced me to make one of my greatest hits, Chidzoka,” said Roki.

Thrilled by the multiple impacts made by the singer, Roki added that he was over-excited; meeting and finally getting to work with his revered role model.

“He is that one person who coloured the planet with his type of music.
“It is an honour that I met and spent time with someone I see as a master and a father figure in the industry.
“Everyone has a collage of people they look up to and in my collage, he takes the most space,” said Roki.

Manager at Passion Java record label who is also Passion Java’s lieutenant, Boss Lashan explained the meaning of the song and what it is all about,
“The title of the song comes from the phrase, ‘Et Patati Et Patata’ which is an informal and kind of fun way of saying someone is running off at the mouth, in short-talking a lot.

“This song is for the people, it’s a dance song which is all about having a good time. life is short everyone should enjoy and what better way than to do so through music?
“This one will surely get you on your feet,” he said.

Boss Lashan went on to explain why Kofi and Rayvanny featured on the song.

“Roki had been idolising Kofi since he was younger and he went to Prophet Passion Java and jokingly said he would love to work with Kofi not knowing that prophet passion would actually make it happen.

“Kofi has had such a huge success in his entire musical career and he is well celebrated in Zimbabwe and internationally by both the old and the young.
“Rayvanny on the other hand is one of the best in East Africa and Africa at large. He has 3 million subscribers on YouTube and quite a huge following on Instagram so with all those numbers combined, we hope to put Zimbabwe on the map.

“The song is already available on all stores and YouTube. All three of them are extremely talented and this song is a bomb. The video is already done and I’m certain people are going to love it,” he said.

Also, Akeju, a director at Prime Music Partners, one of the major distributors of the new song has admitted to not being surprised by Roki's meteoric resurgence to prominence, while describing the Zimbabwean star as "really special".

Roki who is currently working on Chidzoka remix amongst other projects will be hoping to enjoy much smooth rise with his new release.

Celebrities / Baip President,Opuene Blasts Brands For Giving Jobs Suited For Models To Artists by fancyhandsome(m): 4:13pm On Jul 27, 2021
Engr. Daniel Opuene, the president, Beauty of Africa International Pageant, BAIP, has lambasted brands in Nigeria for opting for musicians and actors while choosing representatives and face ambassadors for their organisations.

According to him, the models and Beauty Queens have been often neglected and denied opportunities while artists enjoy most of the opportunities.

In an interview with DAILY POST, the pageant expert noted that models are the best choice for any commercial advert as common in most European countries and other parts of the world.

Mr Daniel who has been in the fashion and entertainment industry over nearly two decades stressed that the uncanny repudiation has limit most models and should be properly addressed.

"In Nigeria, brands don't place much value on models and queens", says the Bayelsa-born entertainment influencer.

"As an ardent traveller, I have been to many countries and when I see billboards and even watch some of the commercial adverts on television, I see models and crowned beauty queens behind almost all of them and I get intrigued.

"Africa and especially Nigeria needs a total reform on that area. Here, we give most of the jobs suited for models to actresses and even artistes based on the power of their social network presence.

"Imagine a comedian used as an ambassador for a cream or facial beauty brand and you wonder how does this connect?

"Are we being fair enough to people in that chosen career who have devoted much of their time building these exceptional qualities which by far and end gives a brand the much appreciable look from the outside?"

He added that brands should instead look beyond social media influence and choose the right people to represent them.

"I understand that most organisations are looking for immediate sales which can be easily generated by hiring notable entertainers to represent them.

"However, this should be carefully done while also making rooms for models too. I believe there are good models and Beauty Queens who have reputations that will effect any organisation positively. We need to encourage these set of people and be all-inclusive in our selections."

Celebrities / African icon Mteto Nyati's New Book Debut On New York Times Square by fancyhandsome(m): 7:34pm On Jun 28, 2021
One of South Africa's widely celebrated IT professional, leadership and turnaround expert, Mteto Nyati has released a timely and deeply personal book titled 'Betting on a Darkie'.

The book which got featured on the popular New-York's Times Square Billboard and is largely tipped to be the next best-selling literary nonfiction, reflects on his life as a shopkeeper’s son, family man and business leader at local and multinational corporates.

Quoting one of the strong messages in the book, Nyati rightly said: 'If you want to take the system down, provide a better alternative at least. At heart I’m an engineer. I want to encourage people to fix things, not to raise false hopes.'

Mteto Nyati knew years ago as a schoolboy in Mthatha, working behind the counter at his mother’s trading store, that he wanted to fix and build things. After completing his studies in Mechanical Engineering at Natal University, he turned down a Rhodes scholarship and headed for Johannesburg to take up a position at Afrox. He was the only black engineer and the sole advice he received from his superiors was ‘don’t mess up’. He didn’t.

Today, Nyati is one of South Africa’s top CEOs, having steered Microsoft South Africa and MTN South Africa out of troubled times. He is currently guiding the transition of Altron from a family business, started at the height of apartheid, into a high performing international IT company with a social conscience.

"This book fundamentally connects us to one another as it probes one of the most universal of human experiences,” said Akeju, a director at Prime Music Partners, who alongside his team, are poised on distributing the new book across major digital platforms.

The book which is currently available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble is fast gaining popularity amongst literary work lovers and Nyati will be hoping his story inspires even wider audiences and also take him to the league of best-sellers around the world.

Explaining further, Chelsea added that most relationships today are arranged in a format configured for 'money and s*x', “A lot of relationships these days are based on money and s*x, take away these two from the equation and what we have is what a lot of people are refusing to call it ‘Prostitution in Disguise"

“There are a lot of men out there willing to pay for these services, why not go ahead, why label it with the terms of boyfriend and girlfriend to extort. The men see it as their reward, the women see the money as their right. Baby girl, if he has to buy certain gifts to quantify how you satisfy him in bed, you’re a classified call girl and that’s that.”

Chelsea gave an encouraging note on how to build a successful relationship, stressing that the bond between men and women should be held sacred. She recalled her past and how it helped her set certain standards and values that has shaped her relationships today.

“Growing up my mother always said that there will always be men and there would always be women, each one more handsome and more beautiful than the other. But you are permitted to have only one. If you’re not in a relationship to get married, what exactly are you looking for?”

“See baby girl, if you have to sleep with him to secure him, then just walk away. You deserve to be wined and dined. You deserve dates. Not one or two but ten, twenty. You deserve flowers, chocolates. Let him woo you.
And men you deserve to be loved, don’t settle for a woman that will just be billing you because she’s good in bed. You’re a king to, and you should be treated as one.”

Politics / Moghalu & 2023: Northern Keke Napep, Okada Riders Declare Support by fancyhandsome(m): 12:03pm On May 09, 2021
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, members and leaders of the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Riders Association (NACTMORA), popularly known as “Keke Napep” and “Okada” riders in 18 northern states, have called on Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor and a presidential candidate in 2019, to contest for the presidency again in 2023.

The tricycle and motorcycle transporters made the call at a press conference with Nigerian and international media at Abuja on Friday, May 7, where they endorsed the ex-central banker and new-generation political leader in a statement signed by Alhaji Nasiru Amburtsa, the Chairman of the group’s 19 northern states coalition, and the heads of 9 states chapters representing the three northern geopolitical zones of the North-Central, North-East, and North-West.

In the statement NACTMORA, a grassroots trade association with over 10 million members in the 19 northern states, said Nigeria was facing “a very serious national crisis caused by incompetent leadership, bad governance and corruption”, and that today’s crop of politicians in the country “cannot solve our national crisis because they have played bad politics of corruption, tribalism and election rigging for a long time and do not know anything else”.

“After carefully looking at the situation in our country today, the members of our Association in 18 northern states have unanimously decided that Professor Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu OON...a presidential candidate in 2019 and the Ifekaego Nnewi, is the best potential candidate to be elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023. We are therefore unanimously calling on Prof. Moghalu to run for president in 2023, and we hereby pledge our support and endorsement for his candidacy”.

The keke napep and okada riders recalled Moghalu’s track record of national service at the CBN as deputy to the then CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as well as in the United Nations where Moghalu was a senior official for 17 years before he was invited to return home for national service.

“Prof Moghalu is not corrupt. He is not tribalistic. He is a man of truth and courage. He has a good heart for the common man. And he has the global pedigree needed for leadership in the 21st century. We strongly call on Prof. Moghalu to step forward to lead Nigeria. We plead with all Nigerians, for the sake of our children and our future, to support this patriotic Nigerian. He is the man we believe has the vision, capacity, and competence to lead Nigeria into a better future”, the statement said.

Moghalu, who turned 58 on May 7, is currently serving as the Special Envoy of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Post-Covid Development Finance for Africa, working on policy options and innovative financing sources that will enable sub-Saharan countries recover from the negative fiscal and development impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Political analysts view the endorsement of Moghalu by such a large grassroots group in northern Nigeria as a significant development.

“It’s an indication that widespread insecurity and poverty in the country is creating disenchantment not just with the government of the day, but with the political elite, represented by the APC and the PDP, more broadly” said Pascal Odibo, a public policy analyst and the Founder of Unleash Nigeria group.

“The outcome of the 2023 election is far from certain, and previous voting patterns could be broken” he said. Moghalu was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in 2019, but resigned his membership of the party in October 2019, a few months after the election. He has so far not joined any other party.

Politics / Moghalu Urges Young Nigerians To Effect Good Governance With Social Platforms by fancyhandsome(m): 10:31am On Apr 14, 2021
Nigerian creative industry and social media "influencers" have resolved to increase their engagement with governance, politics and public policy in order to create a better future for the country’s large youth population.

At the first Elevating Youth Voices Virtual Summit held last weekend on April 10 and hosted by the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET), a think tank headed by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor Professor Kingsley Moghalu, musical and movie stars Jude ("MI"wink Abaga, Kate Henshaw, Regina Askia Williams and Joseph Benjamin, as well as social media opinion leaders and #EndSARS activists Sandra Ezekwesili, Rinu Oduola, Catherine Obianuju ( "DJ Switch"wink Udeh, and technology lawyer Timi Olagunju set out an agenda for greater youth engagement to improve governance. The event was moderated by Andrew Mwavua, an American community organizer in the United States, and Matilda Duncan, a radio journalist.

"We can't afford not to use our platdorms for change", Jude Abaga stressed. "Just because someone knows how to manipulate the elections game doesn't mean they will be good for us.Today, I can see how the ignorance of our young people about how elections are won affects the quality of our lives".

In his opening remarks at the event, Prof. Moghalu urged young Nigerians to take control of the present in order to shape the future. "With unemployment at 33% and 40 million youth unemployed or underemployed, 100 million living in extreme poverty, and United Nations demographics projecting a population of 400 million by 2050, what does the future hold for our young people who make up nearly 70% of Nigeria's population? That future is now, and you must colonize it and shape it for the better", he said.

There were differences of emphasis and nuance between the youthful panelists. For Joseph Benjamin, an actor, "we have a duty to engage with public policy and we have a duty to sensitize the people, but we as influencers must be careful about what we lend our voices to, because it also affects our brand".

But DJ Switch, a disc jockey and music producer who played a prominent role in the #EndSARS protests and is now in hiding for her safety, criticized creative industry influencers who hobnob with corrupt politicians while criticizing bad governance. "If you are not good for me, then your money is not good either. Influencers need to take a stand! We cannot criticize a government that steals from us everyday and turn around and collect their money", she emphasized.

The #EndSARS youth uprising highlighted the impact and power of social media, noted Regina Askia, a former Nigeria beauty queen and Nollywood actress who is now a United States based nurse practitioner and public health advocate. "#EndSARS hashtags yielded over 28 million tweets over one weekend", she recalled. Askia noted that the challenge remained that of how the youth can be steered to more active participation in the political process, in particular voting in elections.

Sandra Ezekwesili, an influential radio talk show host, opined that "Nigerian youth are realistic about the reality of the electoral process and the political space", but when it came to the #EndSARS protest, she said, "we have not been disobedient enough, more #EndSARS need to happen" for real change to come to Nigeria.

"Many of us would rather participate in a protest than vote through institutions that have failed us in the past," said Rinu Oduola, an #EndSARS activist and student at Lagos State University who recently resigned as a member of the Lagos State judicial panel of inquiry into the shootings at Lekki Gate in Lagos by security agents during peaceful protests. "I left the judicial panel because I did not see any justice coming out of it". Miss Oduala believed that "voter apathy is fuelled by the failed politicians the political parties put up as candidates". "We need tried and tested individuals as candidates, not political party opportunists", she said.

Moghalu reminded the summit participants that while peaceful protest remained an essential right in a democracy, it cannot replace the importance of voting in elections as a way to create lasting change by electing more competent leaders. The former presidential candidate in Nigeria’s general elections in 2019 recalled the Arab Spring protests that were driven by social media. "A decade later, the social and economic conditions of the Arab youth are worse now than at the time the protests swept through the Arab world", Moghalu said. "That's because the Arab youth failed to take the energy of the Arab Spring into structural politics by joining political parties, voting in large numbers for candidates of their choice, and standing as candidates. This left the old guard in these countries still effectively in charge".

Kate Henshaw, a leading Nollywood actress who has been a candidate for elective political office, stressed: "It's time to move from complaining on social media to action at the grassroots. The people who vote, half of them are not on social media". She added that "social media has its good side, but we just have to give it more meat".

"Culture shapes the destiny of nations, but politics can change culture", Timi Olagunju, an intellectual property lawyer noted in his contribution at the summit. "Yes, social media matters, but advocacy is never enough, and we must move into action at decentralized community levels" he said.

The Elevating Youth Voices Summit had 1,000 participants from Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, France, United Kingdom, United States and other countries. The IGET will host the summit on a quarterly basis, focusing on topics affecting Nigerian youth and the country’s development.
