Politics › Re: "Jega Will Go, Heavens Won't Fall" - Ayo Fayose by Faraidi(m): 10:16pm On Mar 04, 2015 |
holucunleh: Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described outbursts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the possible removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega as “mere comedy,” saying; “President Goodluck Jonathan can sack Jega if he wishes and if he does, heavens will not fall.”
The governor, who said the APC should stop acting as if Nigeria belongs to the party, added that; “by turning themselves to advocates and defenders of the INEC chairman, the APC and its agents have shown that they have a deal with Jega to manipulate the elections and that the deal will be frustrated if he is asked to leave office.”
Governor Fayose said in a release issued on Wednesday, and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, that “removal of Jega and any other appointees of the
Federal Government is a prerogative of the president, which no one can question, provided laid down rules are followed.”
He said the position expressed by the House of Representatives was that of the APC members in the House, urging that “the APC lawmakers should rather pay attention to the ill-health of their party’s presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), whose whereabouts is now a mystery.”
The governor described Jega as partisan, saying; “By his actions and utterances, Jega had already demonstrated his bias in support of the APC. For instance, how can Jega explain the 80 percent distribution of
Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Boko Haram ravaged Borno and Yobe States while less than 40 percent distributed in Lagos as at February 7 that the election was postponed?”
He said; “It is on record that Prof Maurice Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave two months to the end of his tenure? Is Jega not a beneficiary of Iwu’s removal? So if Iwu was asked to go on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure for Jega to assume office, what difference does it make if Jega too is asked to proceed on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure?”
Speaking further, Governor Fayose said; “it is the president that can determine whether or not Jega will go on the mandatory three months terminal leave which should commence on March 8, and if the president decides that the INEC chairman should go on terminal leave, what can the APC loudmouths do?
“They boasted before the postponement of the elections that they would go on street protests, but did they do anything? They made noise when Justice Isa Ayo Salami was removed from office as president of the Court of Appeal, what did their noise amount to? “Therefore, let me say it categorically that the noise being made by the APC and their agents will amount to nothing because if thepresident removes Jega today, heavens will not fall.”

Kzinne: Fifteen political parties and five presidential aspirants have threatened to pull out of the forthcoming general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11 over the use of card reader device.
The Spokesperson for the group and National Chairman, Advanced Congress of Democrats, Dr. Breakforth Onwubuya, at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, said the concept of using card readers for the coming elections, as being planned by Independent National Electoral Commission, “has a lot of implications which may negatively impact on the conduct of a credible, free and fair elections.”
He said, “The first drawback is that this device is relatively a new technology that has not been tested or tried in a kind of mock election or previous formal elections prior to this time. This would have enabled the nation and the electoral umpire itself to properly ascertain its workability and efficiency in the conduct of the real general elections.
“The decision by INEC to commence the test-run of the use of Card Readers in some of select states across the country on Saturday March 7, 2015, just less than three weeks to the commencement of the re-scheduled election, would not provide the commission enough time to rectify whatever anomaly that would likely arise from that exercise.”

emusmith: The First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, has targeted the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari saying his brain is dead.
Patience Jonathan called on Nigerian women to vote en-masse for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the forthcoming presidential election. Speaking on Tuesday during the PDP women presidential campaign rally held in Kogi state, the first lady stated that Buhari is unfit and too old to be the Nigeria’s president Daily Times reports.“Wetin him dey find again? Him dey drag with him pikin mate,”she said in Pidgin English.“Old man wey no get brain, him brain don die pata pata.”
Moved by the cheers of the crowd, the first lady sporadically sang to taunt her husband’s main challenger at this month’s presidential election.“If you vote Buhari, na your prison; if you vote APC, na your wahala,”she sang.
“What is change?
Why did you not change things when you were there? Is it now that you want to be doing the things you weren’t doing before?“
Jonathan looked at us and said women, I am giving you the position of the chief justice of this country. Okonjo-Iweala is a woman, Diezani is a woman. Seventy percent of his cabinet are women.“He also gave us the opportunity to start enrolling for the regular combatant course at the NDA (Nigerian Defence Academy).

argob44: Woman defends sending £900,000 to lover in Africa she never met
She’s never met her African lover, yet this woman has spent $1.4million (£900,000) on him.
And she has no regrets.
Sarah, who has divorced twice, met Chris Olsen 18 months ago online and the pair have spoken for hours over the phone every day.
In that time he has repeatedly asked her for money and, despite his accent changing over that time, she is ’95 per cent certain’ that he’s the real deal.
He’s even tried getting to the U.S. several times, she says, but each time gets arrested on false charges, Sarah told Dr Phil
He told her that he was from Milan and works in South Africa on business. But he’s also said he’s working in Nigeria and Benin.
She said: ‘An attractive person came on there and said “wow you look like you wouldn’t hurt a fly”. I said “wow this guy’s really handsome, I can’t believe he’s talking to me!”.’
Sarah has paid for hotel bills, lawyers, stolen credit cards and $550,000 (£360,000) on bail.
Her justification? ‘I believe Chris does consider me his wife.’
She added: ‘I have questioned several times whether or not this is a scam. I am 95 per cent certain that Chris is telling me the truth. That this is legit.’
Sarah turned to Dr Phil to help unite them.

Politics › Re: Sacking Jega “recipe For Disaster” – Northern Elders by Faraidi(m): 1:40pm On Feb 28, 2015 |
Franchise21: Speculations that President Goodluck Jonathan intends to fire the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, before the general elections, intensified Friday after the Federal Government refused to give a clear commitment on the matter. Responding to concerns that the electoral chief would soon be mandated to proceed on a terminal leave, the Minister of Information, Edem Duke, gave an uncertain response, saying Mr. Jega’s exit will follow a “natural course”. Although he re-echoed President Goodluck Jonathan’s comments last two weeks that he had not informed anyone of any plans to sack the INEC boos, Mr. Duke said that did not imply that when it is time for Mr. Jega “to naturally exit his office, then the natural course of things will not take place”. “I think all of that is in the terrain of the Presidency and he has spoken. I have nothing to add to that,” he added. On Thursday, members of the Nigerian Senate belonging to the All Progressives Congress, APC, had accused Mr. Jonathan of plotting to ask Mr. Jega to proceed on pre-retirement leave next week.
They promised to resist the alleged plot.
Mr. Duke criticised the APC for fuelling speculations about Mr. Jega’s removal. “I will also like to say once on that issue. I recall that for several weeks now, people keep threatening the President on the shift in the date of the poll. You begin to wonder that parties have a couple of extra weeks in order to reinvigorate their campaigns and try to reach as many voters as possible,” he said. “Rather than do that, you begin to identify imaginary pockets of unlikely developments and then focus your attention on them and then when you lose election, you begin to complain.”
Northern elders reject move to sack Jega
Meanwhile, the Northern Elders Forum has warned the presidency to jettison any plot to remove Mr. Jega head of the general elections, saying such move will be a ”recipe for disaster”. The spokesperson for the group, Ango Abdullahi, said “any attempt at this last minute by this government or its agency to remove Jega is a clear message that this government is determined to rig an election in which they see Jega as an impediment simply because he thinks that the commission must follow the rules for a free and fair and credible election”. Sacking “Jega at this material time will be a recipe for disaster”, Mr. Abdullahi warned at a press conference Friday. He said the excuse given for postponement of the general elections, earlier scheduled for February 14 and 28, to March 28 and April 11, was “flimsy, clumsy and indefensible”. Speaking against background of security concern cited for the poll shift, he said, “the NEF viewed it as unacceptable because only a small fraction of the security personnel in the country are directly engaged in the battle against insurgency within the north east enclave of the country. “We also know that even in countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan , Sri Lanka and more recently Afghanistan where full scale wars were still raging when they decided that election could still be held and indeed were held.” Stating further, he accused the “the ruling elite” of plot to scuttle the elections and ultimately Nigeria’s democracy.

The lady who organised the rented crowd that protested at the Chatham House in London on Thursday on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan has been uncovered.
The lady, who gave her name simply as Adijatu towards the end of the video attached to this report, said she organised the 100 persons from Manchester in the United Kingdom for the purpose of the pro-Jonathan protest.
The rented crowd also protested against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Major General Muhammadu Buhari.
As earlier reported, a member of the President Jonathan campaign team and the Assistant Director of Civil Society and Support Groups in the Diaspora, Chief Peter Mozie, had requested for $20,000 to mobilise some Nigerians in the United Kingdom to protest at Chatham House where Buhari was to deliver a speech on Thursday.
A memo, addressed to the Director of Civil Society and Support Groups, Prof. Nick Eze, and copied to the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Affairs, Prof. Rufai Alkali, said different persons at the venue of the anti-Buhari rally will have various talking points.
Adijatu confirmed on video that she mobilised the persons who came to the venue. She said they came in six buses. She said unlike Buhari with low spending power, Jonathan was a heavy spender.
She equally said she could organise such crowd for anyone in need of such. Asked if she was the one who pocketed the $20,000 budgeted for the rally, she simply laughed and moved on to other discussions.
