Samson, from the verse of the book of Judges that I am very familiar struck me as someone who had his hair braided or plaited into seven largish locks. I do not believe for a second that he had dreadlocks in the same way as the rastafarians of today.

Well you can grow dreadlocks by simply not cutting your hair for years, I would imagine someone who lived as a hermit far from humans and barely groomed would look like one of those Indian hermits.
