pcoolioz: well it could be gumboro... who knows, but I heard of the vaccine for gumboro fails it wipes out the entire birds. they started dying right from the first week. I got a carton, I have 15left. I had to bring them out of the pen and let them free range. I was out of options and in doing that those 15 survived.
the plan day one-antistress 2-5 - antibiotics 6-7 vitamins 8 - first lasota 9 - 10 -vitamins 11-first gumboro then bla bla till day 21 second gumboro that's basically it I skipped fowl pox vaccine when I thought they were all gonna die. Well it depend on each farmer practice and experience. Gumboro should come first before Lasota even before day 7. Test this and see what happen. The problem with your birds were due to gumboro infection |

jamp: If the wound is by the side then its not prolaspe....that is cannibalism caused by pecking. Please check the beak of your birds. Yeah thanks it cannibalism. I dedicated my time this morning watching and monitoring I found 2 of the bird pecking and picking the feather beside the vent to eat have isolate the culprit. Thanks Jamp I really appreciate your time and reply |

jamp: this is prolapse. It happens mainly when birds come into lay so early without full maturity(low body weight). That is why it is not good to force birds to lay early .What you saw is the rupturing of the oviduct which causes other birds to peck on it. Just isolate the particular bird.also check the quality of the debeaking Thanks my birds are 1 year old and being laying since 6 months ago. They started late beside the blood is at the side of the vent this is not prolapse |

I found out that my layers have blood at their vein. One pecking at it herself making it to cause a big wound and blood flowing out. Anybody with this experience previously can help with solution and causes thanks

Dikwons: Please help. My 2weeks plus old chicks are dull, not eating well, sleeping standing, buried necks, some have watery stools, I noticed this two days ago. I have vaccinated them against Newcastle disease with LaSota, in the first week, then Gongola in the second week. This is the third week and they went from being energetic to being sick in a flash. I've been giving them a glucose+antibiotic+vitamin drug since I got them. I bought chlortetracycline drug yesterday for them but they are still the same. I keep them well aerated and their litter dry. There are two poults with them who are still agile. Did you give gomboro vaccine ? The symptoms look like Gomboro |

Annabechick: Good evening please how long will it take me to get 2kg of broiler It depends on the strain of the broiler you got. A strain like Marshall,Arbor acre,Hubbard can attain At least 2kg in less than 6-7wks with a good management. Feed Conversion Rate or Ration to 4 :2 meaning 4Kg of feeds to attain 2kg live weight |

viktor556: ok. I already bought formaldehyde, izal and chloroform. But since I still have 60+ left and with only one pen in my farm, the plan is to demarcate the pen and fumigate the halved part. Plz quarantine the old 60 birds in another pen or cage before washing and disinfect the pen to avoid more problem |

viktor556: ok. I already bought formaldehyde, izal and chloroform. But since I still have 60+ left and with only one pen in my farm, the plan is to demarcate the pen and fumigate the halved part. You can't disinfect the pen while the old stock are still there. I will advice you quarantine the remaining stock in a separate pen besides you can't introduce new stock with old stock, it will surely increases their chance of infected |

viktor556: I have been following this thread but must have missed it. I'm planning to restock by the way. Do you think they will be fine provided I go through the correct vaccinations because I'm worried the disease is now already in my farm.
Anticipating your reply. Before you restock. Kind wash your pen and use quality disinfectant wait for about 7 days or so. Most important follow vaccination routine closely. Is very important. |

I learnt parent stock, feeding, incubation everything on my self research over the internet, book reading, research and word of mouth. Anyway if you have the cash you can see how it is done abroad good luck |

Deolaw: Hello Op. I made this little pen for rearing chickens. My plan is to have 40 chickens in it and wanna target DEC for sale. I am a novice in intensive poultry or so. Can you advice me on... 1. what kind of treatment do I need to add to the pen to start off. 2. I wish to have broilers. Are there any special breed for my purpose and timing 3. How long will I need to have to add heat (from a stove or bulb) for a day old chicks. 4. Just help my novice head
Thanks I don't think your pen can contain 40 broilers when they mature. You need to provide for heat stove, bulb, charcoal for atleast 2 weeks to 3 when they would have grow enough feather. On arrival you have to give them glucose and vitamin in their water on day 1.. Day 2 ..antibiotics and vitamin in their drinking water till day 5 or 6 Day. 7 time for vaccination. First dose. Gumboro with milk dry milk Continue with vitamin after vaccination on day 8 also with antibiotics before another vaccination on day 14 Lasota first dose also with milk Day 15 give vitamin and give tylo doc extra on day 16 till 18 prevention of respiration disease Second dose Gumboro should be day 22 and Lasota second dose day 27 May be another person can add one or more thing N:B. You should be careful when administer vaccine and it shouldn't last more than 40 to 50minute. Good luck |

jamp: Rats ate some of my new birds Ouch! There should be a preventive method to keep rat away from the pen, like checking for a hole around the pen house. Rat will not only eat your bird but transmit some disease like salmo nellosis through their excrement. Sorry for the lost |
