@gangsta101,

i can feel you and ur problem, if you still like ur receiver, u can do better. just go back to the shop where u got it from, and if they still have ur model explain to them that u ran into problem and u want to do stb-stb transfer of software. i pray they will agree. go there with ur working RS232 serial cable. u see, i ran into the same type of ur problem with my HITV pvr receiver. it is a clone and there is apparently nothing for it on the net. i got a file from the net and uploaded it using my flash disk and hell was let loosed. it wouldnt boot again but displayed error info here and there.though i had the backup of its software on my PC but no uploader or communication with it through its RS232 port, though windows hyperterminal client did displayed some info, indicating that the serial communication was ok. finally what I did was go to my supplier who has the same type, did a STB-STB serial files transfer from his own menu options and after some minutes my set came back alive.I rescanned my channels. since then i have not ventured to try uploading any strange patch file into it. so bros, tread this path and lets see how it goes. remember that your null modem RS232 cable pin configuration should be in this form: pins 2-3, pins 3-2, pins 5-5 and of course ground to ground, in case u are making a new one or confirming an old one.
good luck.

Gangsta101:
About Strong decoders being pre-patched before getting to the customer, it is indeed strange, because, it doesn't seem to be a "Full Patch" (for want of a better explanation). Because if you buy a brand new straight-out-of-the-box strong 4651X, you would be able to type in 8282 and 8280 to bring out the different key menus, and (i think), you can press 6969 on ETV (intelsat 7/10) and get it to open. but however, if you input the showtime/ART keys manually (or even via a softcam), it wouldn't open them. you would have to then patch it properly to open showtime/ART. Maybe like you said, the initial software loaded onto it (probably patched for this region), would have been too old by that time.
@ Gangsta101, Enigma

thank you all for the informative piece, i will apply new patch to one of them sometime and see,
you guys are wonderful.

Gangsta101:
Fasone,

Did u patch those 4652 at any time in the past? keys don't work on strong decoders with official software. (don't know about the new models though.) but if you have patched them before and they still don't work, try loading a patch from the web via rs232 cable or from another decoder that currently opens disney (4652 that is).
the sets are 4650 model and has mytv logo when starting up and i was able to get to key edit menu with 8282, do u think they have not been patched before?

you are a guru and you never blow any trumpet about it.

@guru in the house
don't let the questions from newbies bother you, refer them to previous posts, they will never 4get you for learning from u, remember that a lot of people don't have the real basic technical know-how to manipulate things themselves. a lot of people still depend on others to even tune their digital TV talk less of setting up FTA. pls show ur love and personality by helping others

@baba_egun

that is a good one there, an eye opener ("Laju e" stuff as lagosians would says) but really educative. i think that it is high time government restructure that monster called "Alaba" who knows, a few of the fire incidents in nigeria might be traced to fake things bought from the market. the northern part is not endowed with a market like that and you can pick up your stuffs from reputable shops/outlets at reasonable prices.
do enjoy ur leave in the splendour egun empire.

@ all,

I want you all guys to take note of the size of the patches you download before running them on your receivers because i just spoilt my SRT 4653x Strong receiver with the latest patch. I thought i downloaded it completely not knowing that it was not completed. It was suppose to be 1.2MB but unknowingly i did not complete the download before ruuning it on my receiver. Now my receiver has stopped working.

So guys, check the size of the patch before running. All efforts by Pitondez and badaru1 to resuscitate it on phone proved abortive.

Learn from my mistake. Premiership starts in 2 days time, what a time for my receiver to stop working.  cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
What a bad time really. Do a STB-STB transfer using a null-modem rs232 cable. How I wish you are living nearby my location, I have a working cable that I can borrow you and a strong decoder SRT 4653X. What a pity. At least you should be happy that it is not going to be dead 4ever. Anyway, good luck.

@ all
What is the good pair of dish size and LNBF to receive Nilesat bird in Nigeria?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by fasone(m): 10:58am On Jul 28, 2008
I have to say thank you a million times to all contributors in this thread. i can say that i have read 30% of the content of this thread, and with these "tools" handy, i was able to install for a friend just yesterday, a 1.35m dish and a 90cm dish. the 1.35m dish has nilesat and nss 7 signals while the 90cm has 7/10 signal. we could not receive all of the nilesat signals because the 1.35m is still small for Kano, northern Nigeria where we reside. he bought the materials himself before inviting me over for the installation, i told him that he should have gone for the 1.8m at least. sorry i wasn't there with a camera, so no picture of the setup. it was a worth while venture and i am very happy about it.

go for mytv smartcard, you can have it without their equipment. better still, go the FTA thread and ask if any one have hitv or dstv card for sale.
gud luck
TV/MoviesWhat Free-to-air Satellite Tv Receiver Do You Use by fasone(op): 3:32pm On Jul 18, 2008
For me, I use Strong 4651x model and HiTv decoders. I bought a card reader (CAM), installed it into the Strong decoder and automatically the model has since changed to 4653x. I can now use smartcard on both decoders.

what you have used was the official software you downloaded from strong website, download and use a patch software instead.
read through FTA thread to know more.

Enigma:
@fasone
I have checked on the Axil RC 107 but cannot as yet find any information on patching it. It probably does not have much unofficial support by way of patches --- in fact provider-supplied receivers are usually useless in terms of patches. I believe that you probably can get official software through HITV or at that locura.com - which of course is probably unnecessary anyway. BUT, more importantly, be careful because as the RC 107 seems to be designed to do both terrestrial and satellite reception its software might not be compatible with yours (assuming yours can't do terrestrial). It does not help that most info about the RC 107 is in Spanish although you can also search under its alternative model name i.e. TBoston DTT 8300.
Thanks for the useful info. I once dared the receiver when I upgraded it with a tboston 8300 software that I got from the net. It went wild and could not start up. I resuscitated it through STB to STB file transfer using rs232 cable. I got another receiver from a friend. I was very happy to see it came alive again.
Maybe with time some upgrading file may come up. Kudos to you all.

I think it is a clone or something, doesnt even have a brand name. When I check the net, it look similar to AXIL RC 107. May be you can help. I will post the Axil's picture soon.

@ Baba Egun. Good work out there. You must be happy with your installation and thanks for sharing. What is the name of the different LNBs that you used? I can see they are not the same.

@ gurus in the house, thanks for your supports and for keeping this forum alive. there is this HITV decoder, looks like its a nice one with PVR feature, but does any one know how to enter codes into it and how to upgrade its software? kind regards.

Sorry, this goes for com settings,

Set the parameters of the serial port (COM1, COM2, ) as 115kbps, 8 data bit and 1 stop bit, and XON/OFF none, then power off and on your receiver and check your Hyper Terminal window. If any text is displayed on the Hyper Terminal window, then the RS-232 cable is OK.

Good Luck

go to people selling computer/electronics parts, ask them for 9 pin female ( with holes) serial/com plugs, not molded ones. the 9 pin at the back of PCs are male because they have pins. remember pins (male) must go into holes ( female). you need to do some soldering or ask that electronics man near your house to do it for you. get some flexible but insulated wires, connect pin 2 of the first female plug to pin 3 of the second, the pin 3 of the first plug to pin 2 of the second, then pin 5 to pin 5 of the second. you have crossed rs232 cable.remember connect the ground(metallic parts) of the two plugs together.
for you to test, connect it btween your receiver and your pc, use hyperterminal service in your windows xp, vista.switch off and then on your receiver, the software version of your receiver will be displayed in the hyperterminal window.if u run into problem ,let me know.

i have a cable that i built myself and i downloaded the software but haven't use them because i don't really know what the software upgrade will do to my strong
4651x receiver, any one to help?
